The investment is not necessarily to be only in direct education, but also can be done via edutainment tools such as Chess.
Complexity
Capacity
The increase in the complexity of global economic challenges has outpaced the increase in the human capital capability

Focus - Children are taught the benefits of observing carefully and concentrating, no matter how smart they are.Visualize - Children are prompted to imagine a sequence of actions before it happens, first one, then several moves ahead.Think Ahead - Children are taught to think first, then act.Weigh Options - Children are taught that they don't have to do the first thing that pops into their mind, and consider the pros and cons of various actions.
Analyze Concretely - Children learn to evaluate the results of specific actions and sequences: Does this sequence help me or hurt me? (Logic versus impulse).Think Abstractly - Children are taught to step back periodically from details and consider the bigger picture. They also learn to take patterns used in one context and apply them to different, but related situations.Plan - Children are taught to develop longer range goals and take steps toward bringing them about. They are also taught of the need to reevaluate their plans as new developments change the situation.Juggle Multiple Considerations Simultaneously -Children are encouraged not to become overly absorbed in any one consideration, but to try to weigh various factors all at once.

According to Joyce Brown an assistant principal and supervisor -
Roberto Clemente school's Special Education department - NY
"The effects of introducing Chess at the school have not been only limited to advancing the reading and math skills of these children. More importantly, their ability to socialize has increased substantially, too. The studies have shown that incidents of suspension and outside altercations have decreased by at least 60% since these children became interested in chess."

UAE is always placed as an international
and advanced city. With its increasingly
international pivotal role and position,
Dubai remains the hub for strong symbolic
projects for the Arab world. This means
that if chess would be introduced as a
course in the educational system, it would
be a major political symbol for the Arab
world and for the West showing that Dubai
is way ahead of its neighboring cities
regarding educational matters and able to
conduct projects of such importance
because of its visionary leadership

• The State of New Jersey passed Bill #S452 legitimizing chess as a unit of instruction. An excerpt from the bill reads as follows:

• Since 1986, an organization called Chess in the Schools has taught chess to over 400,000
students in Title I public schools in New York City. Title I schools are those in which over
60% of the students receive free lunches. According to the organization, students who
participate in these programs are more likely to attend school regularly, achieve
academic success, foster friendships, and use peaceful ways to resolve problems.
• As the New York Times reported last year, IS 318, a Title I middle school in the Bedford-
Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn, has won the National Scholastic K-12 Chess Championship
many times. The other victorious teams in the championship came from private schools
and from magnet public schools such as Bronx Science and Hunter High School.

• The mathematics curriculum in New Brunswick, Canada, is a text series called
“Challenging Mathematics” which uses chess to teach logic from grades 2 to 7. Using this
curriculum, the average problem-solving score of pupils in the province increased from
62% to 81%.
• Looking specifically at Quebec, 10 years ago their math scores were the lowest in the
country. Chess became a school subject and now the children in Quebec have the
highest average math scores in Canada.

• The International Master and chess journalist Malcolm Pein is one of those who want to
see the game flourish again in British schools.
• Two years ago, Pein's organization, Chess in Schools and Communities, launched a pilot
program involving 60 primary schools and 6,000 children. By 2015 it aims to have
introduced the game to 17,000 schools and to have a million children playing. It is an
ambitious target, but so far they are on track.
• Chess is still played by many British children, and Pein praises the Delancey UK Schools
Chess Challenge. However, his impression is that many of the 2,000 schools that take
part come from the private sector.

• Chess is making a dramatic comeback in primary schools – thirty years after it all but
disappeared completely from the state school scene.
• In the past two years, a total of 175 schools – including those serving some of the most
deprived areas of the country – have reintroduced the game to the curriculum.
• Now the charity behind its revival, Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC), is optimistic
the take-up will spread to 1,000 state schools within the next three years.

• The earliest study in Belgium, produced in 1975, found that a chess-playing experimental group of
20 fifth graders experienced a statistically significant gain in cognitive development (IQ) over a
control group, using Piaget's tests for cognitive development .
• The experimental group received 42 hours of chess instruction over the course of one year (sixth
grade). Perhaps more noteworthy, they also did significantly better in their regular school testing,
as well as in standardized testing administered by an outside agency which did not know the
identity of the two groups.
• In educational circles, that study was deemed to provide “scientific support for what we have
known all along – chess makes kids smarter!”
