1 Crew 2011 Information This is our final WorldSkills London Crew 2011 newsletter. Monica and Mark will be leaving the team on Friday 4th November but Julia will be in the office until mid/late November. Please be assured that if there is anything outstanding that you need to receive e.g. expenses cheques, certificates or thank you letters etc. letters that these will be with you soon. See below for more information which we hope you will find useful. 1.1 Thank You! Now that we are all back in the office (after a few well needed sleeps), the entire WorldSkills London 2011 team would like to say a massive THANK YOU to all the volunteers who went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure the event was such a massive success. We could not have done it without you! We really do hope that you had a fun time! In the meantime, a useful source of information and communication with other volunteers is the Crew 2011 Facebook page which can be found at https://www.facebook.com/groups/128932137196714/ 1.2 Volunteer Expenses The finance team is currently working on processing your expenses claims. Cheques will be sent to your home addresses as soon as we can get everything signed off. We can only sincerely apologise for the delay and thank you for being patient with us. 1.3 Volunteer Oyster Cards. If you have used the credit on the oysters that we provided you for travel to and from Excel, we would be extremely grateful if you return them to: Volunteer Team, WorldSkills London 2011, 3rd Floor, 36 Queen Street, London, EC4R 1BN 1.4 Volunteer References WorldSkills London 2011 will unfortunately be able to provide reference letters for all volunteers. However, we will be providing you with a certificate of volunteering along with a supporting letter confirming your involvement.

1.5 Certificates and Medals Just to let you know that we are in the process of inputting the massive amount of volunteer attendance data on to our system and, once we have finished this, we will be able to send your certificate and letter of involvement. You can expect to receive all of this information by November. P.S. If you were unable to attend the party and didn't receive your Bentley Crew 2011 medal, we can send this to you at the same time. We have a list of people who attended so we already know who has received their gift. 1.6 Team Host Information If any Team Host has not yet returned their mobile phones, we could be grateful if you could send them to us by the end of this week (or early next week). We had a great time meeting you all and getting you signed up to the Collective, don't worry your vouchers are on their way. Don't forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter too for loads of exciting updates and competitions! If you didn't get a chance to submit your story, please visit https://projects.orangerockcorps.co.uk/thecollective to do it now. 1.8 Facebook As of 30th November 2011, the WorldSkills London 2011 volunteer Facebook page will cease to exist. There will be a countdown to the switch off so you know when it will happen! Don’t forget to make friends with your volunteer colleagues before the site is shut down. Alternatively, you can set up a separate “Friends of….” page.

2.1 Volunteering After WorldSkills London 2011 If you have been inspired by volunteering at WorldSkills London 2011 and would like to give your valuable time to help other organisations you can visit the national volunteering website at http://www.do-it.org.uk/ The Do-it search works on locations. Enter your postcode OR your town to find opportunities in your area. You can search by one or the other, but not both. The town must be a recognised postal district, such as Hackney or Merseyside. You can also check out your local London Volunteer Bureau by visiting: http://www.volunteering.org.uk/WhatWeDo/Local+and+Regional/VolunteerCentreFinder.htm?county=London or for outside of London please visit: http://www.volunteering.org.uk/WhatWeDo/Local+and+Regional/VolunteerCentreFinderGoogle.htm 2.2 Search online for voluntary work. There are around 914,000 volunteering opportunities available online in England. Many more are available throughout the United Kingdom. You can search for volunteering opportunities by entering your postcode or location. You can also add how far you are willing to travel. You’ll get top quality training, developing skills and gaining qualifications on the job. Who can apply: You need to be 16 or over to apply for an Apprenticeship. Requirements: Entry requirements will depend on the Apprenticeship you want to do. There are three levels available: • Apprenticeships (equivalent to five good GCSE passes) • Advanced Apprenticeships (equivalent to two A level passes) • Higher Apprenticeships (lead to qualifications at NVQ Level 4 or, in some cases, a Foundation Degree) Depending on your grades in GCSE Maths and English, you may need to take a literacy and numeracy test. The sport and active leisure sector is a fantastic place to start and build a career, and the brand new website gives a real insight into what it’s like to work in the sector and the job roles available. 4 Careers Advice and Information 4.1 Next Step, Careers Advice Next Step gives you access to information, careers advice and resources, which can help you make more effective skills, work and life choices. Next Step Advisers can provide you with free advice on returning to work, re-training, paying for your learning or finding childcare. They have lots of information relevant to your situation, say, if you're looking for a job, facing redundancy or trying to fit study around family. The programme is part of the London Mayor’s multi-million pound investment into the city’s sporting infrastructure and is managed by The National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure. Be a part of London's sporting future.
