By: Olivia Steppert Did you know that an apple can wake you up in the morning as easily as a cup of coffee can? It’s a fact! If you do work-outs in the morning, then eat an apple. It can supply you with at least one hour of energy. That’s a lot healthier than having a cup of coffee. Coffee has caffeine and it’s true that will get you up in the morning but, if you like apples, that’s a much healthier choice. So remember to tell your parents that an apple will get you up in the morning, just like a cup of coffee – so, make the better choice! INSIDE THE TALENT SHOW By: Allison Gafford This year, the talent show had some amazing performances. We had so much fun in rehearsals. Basically, you would perform and while you were waiting for your turn to practice, you had free time. You got to hang out and become closer with people you didn’t really know before. On the day of the talent show, your nerves went way up. All credit goes to Mrs. O’Connell. She put so much time and hard work into the talent show, getting everything ready and losing time with her family to help us. Let me just say she did a great job at doing it, too. Well, that’s all. Maybe next year I will see YOU performing on stage. BIRTHSTONE OF THE MONTH By: Angela Wareing This month’s Birthstone is the Diamond. The diamond comes in many different shades of yellow, red, pink, blue, and green. The different shades of color range from very faint to very vivid. Diamonds that sparkle with intense color are very rare. A diamond makes a perfect gift for a relative, a loved one, and anyone special. Happy Birthday to all born in April! The diamond is your birthstone.

ANIMAL OF THE MONTH~

ELEPHANT By: Skyler Hawks

Elephants are the largest land

mammals on earth. The African

elephant can weigh up to eight tons.

The elephant is distinguished by its

massive body, large ears, and a long

trunk, which has many uses.

Elephants can use their trunk as a

hand to pick up objects, as a horn to

trumpet warnings, as an arm raised in

greeting, and as a hose for drinking

water or spraying water while

bathing.

Elephants roam in large herds, and eat

more than two hundred pounds of plants

every day. Female elephants have one calf

every four to five years and the calf stays

with its mother for many years.

These gentle giants need large

amounts of space to roam and also

need lots of food and water. Most

elephants have one large tusk and

one small tusk. This is because the

smaller one is used more often so it

has more wear and tear.

Elephants are amazing animals. They

are even known to mourn over their dead.

There are many similarities between

elephants and humans. To me, that is a

great animal to have many things in

common with.

CAMP SURF By: Callie Crandall

The sixth grade went on a trip to Camp Surf at Imperial Beach, California. It was AMAZING! The food was delicious and the counselors were really nice and funny. When the sixth graders got there, the first activity we did was play group games, such as Sharks and Minnows, Ants, Dragon Tails Alaskan Baseball, then Softball. After all those games we got some free time. The three main activities people did were volleyball, basketball and GaGa Ball.

After a while, it was time to meet at Pirate’s Cove. Everyone split up into their groups. I went to archery first

and while I was there I made six bulls eyes! After that everyone ate a delicious dinner. At night, it was time to go back to Pirates Cove for skit night! Every group got a place, a plot, and a sentence they had to include in their skit. It was really fun and the key was to be funny and really loud. The next day we did several activities. We went to a rock climbing

tower that was super tall and if you made it to the top you could see Mexico! Next, I went to Hop Into Habitat. Everyone got to choose an animal and you had to act like that animal the whole time. The people in my group chose tigers, bears, giraffes, wolves, unicorns, shark, and more! Eventually we went to the jetty. It was super fun but some people got scared about slipping into the water. Now it was time for what everybody was waiting for… THE BEACH!

It was super fun going into the water and jumping the waves. At night everyone had s’mores and sang camp fire songs. The last day had come and everyone chose their last activity. Before we left everyone went to the gift shop. Everyone was very sad when it was time to go and now that we’re back, the sixth graders are all saying they want to go back to Camp Surf!
