I am also grateful for how you continue to act with a generous spirit, both by your regular contributions and pledges for 2018. It s a glimpse of Gods prevenient, justifying, and sanctifying grace. Mae Brock or Sister Mae, Tom or Brother Tom, as they were known, were simple mountain people, poor and humble. As a young couple, they came down from the hills to find a better way of life for the family and settled in the cotton mill town of Buffalo, SC. Neither complained about the weather, the hard work, the general state of the world or the fact that they had lost a son who had died in a ship fire while in the Navy. She had only a third grade education and he maybe none, but they both had a Ph.D. in life. In the days when a dollar was a lot of money for a mill worker, Sister Mae always gave “$5” to a missionary that came to speak at her church. She never complained about what was lacking in life and counted it a blessing that she had “$5” to give. Now her husband Brother Tom grew dahlias and other flowers for the church. Early on Sunday mornings, there he would be, a world of flowers in a bucket, counting it a privilege to adorn the altar table. Their place included a pasture, a cow, and a pig pen and a weather beaten house in need of paint and a new roof. But it didnt matter, for inside was the smell of hominess and the blessing of running water. Sister Mae always made time to scribble prayer notes to folks several times a week. They said she wrote a letter every day to her two grandchildren in the Navy during the Vietnam War—she never missed. And, in all the time, no one ever heard her say anything bad about anyone, doing their part to build up the Kingdom of God on Earth. All to say, its not what you have in life, but what you do with it that matters; and that is what brings you a divine blessing. Anything less in Gods eyes is not enough. Thats stewardship. “What Really Matters”

Whatever you do, work heartily, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. Remember, in all you do, you are serving the Lord Christ (from Colossians 3)

Another time of giving thought to how we are growing as stewards of the church, both individually and corporately, has come and gone. Many have reported to me how helpful our 4-week “Treasure” series of small groups and sermons was for them, how it gave them space to give serious consideration their Christian practices of faith. I am grateful to our staff and leaders who gave so much to make this a powerful experience for our church membership.

I am also grateful for how you continue to act with a generous spirit, both by your regular contributions and pledges for 2018. If you have not turned in your pledge card or come to a decision on your “faith pledge”, I pray you will give that prayerful consideration over the next couple of weeks. You may place them in the offering plate or the basket we will keep at the altar for the next couple of weeks.

Children's Corner

In Psalm 24:1, we read, The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, (NIV). In other words, whatever we have isn’t really ours. God created the entire world—the land and sea, planets and galaxies, animals and people. And when people create, those people do so because of the gift and talents that God gave them. It’s our job to take care of what God has loaned us for a time to use in order to bring Him glory. Jesus put stewardship into action. He used the time He had on earth wisely, never wasting a moment, but always working toward God’s plan. He used what He had—from bread and fish, to dirt and spit—to perform miracles, helping people see and eat. Everything Jesus did showed us how we can take care of God’s stuff by using it the way that points people to God and fulfills the mission God has for our lives.

WEEK 5

Key Question: How do you live for what really matters? Even kids have several options when it comes to how they choose to live their life. Throughout the month, we’ve talked about using time, things and money wisely, but this can also be about the company we keep, the way we study for tests, or the way we treat our neighbors. Kids are starting to realize that the way they live comes with consequences both good and bad. We hope to guide kids to see their life as more than the here and now. They can live their life to gain popularity and friends, or they can choose to live their life in a way that honors God. That’s why we conclude our month about stewardship looking more closely at something Jesus told His followers during the Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew 6:19-24. Jesus tells us, “Your heart will be where your riches are.” Jesus reminded us rather than spending all of our time on earth to gain riches that won’t last, we should spend our time on what matters most—serving God and storing up treasures that will last forever. Bottom Line: Live like you know what really matters. The world is filled with voices telling us what should be important—money, power, fame, and personal glory. But what God wants for us is different. When we live our life for only things that matter on earth, they’ll end up fading away and being destroyed. Instead, we pray kids will learn to make choices about their life that will matter for eternity. Serving Him together,

Last week was full of fun and activity while the Youth participated in FUMC's Annual Fall Festival. A fantastic opportunity to serve the church and the community, they had a blast getting to know other members of the church and using their skills to help such a great event succeed. Next week, we will continue with our #relationshipgoals series as we host a panel full of married couples and singles alike who will shed some light on the ins and outs of the dating world. Wednesday night we will continue with our Story study for Middle Schoolers and the High School will remain with the Beatitudes Study. This Saturday (October 28th) is the Faith and Family Event at the GMC Junior College Game. All students are invited to attend for $3 and a canned good! It's an awesome opportunity to fellowship with the Body of Christ and watch some awesome football! In Peace, Audrey

Dear Church Family, I wanted to take this opportunity to say “Thank You” to all who helped with the Fall Festival this year. Whether it was your time, baking, giving and/or serving, I appreciate each and every one of you!!!

We may have had a little unexpected weather, but overall I think it was a success and I saw lots of new faces and families. Definitely another reason to Praise God!!!
