HOD Speak Dear Readers, I welcome you all to this issue of Insight. In the last se- mester our department has undergone the NBA compliance visit. The highlights were focus on research work and funded projects done by the department. The department faculty are constantly working towards such opportunities and we are also getting re- sponses from reputed organizations like TIFR, BARC and IIT for collaborative projects. As a new initiative, faculty from the depart- ment are developing conceptual videos for the students, which will be useful for them for remembering important concepts from different domains in the Electronics Engineering stream. Through our interactions with the industry personnel, we have got a novel idea of running a 100 % theory, 100% practical concept, where equal weightage is given to theory and laboratory practices, which makes a true engineering education environment. The department has seen a decline in the number of placements for the graduating batch of 2018-19. However students are now focussing on starting up some technical activity on their own. Such initiatives are appreciated and encouraged. Our alumni bonds are becoming stronger as the number visiting the campus is increasing. We wish that the alumni cell activities will be driven by some of them soon. On the academic front, stu- dents should note that there is a change in the examination schedule by the university and it is the need of the hour that they must study regularly with full attendance. This will help them prepare for the exams. Internship by Students in Various Industries

Ms.Shivani Naik did her internship at Brihan Mumbai Electric Supply & transport. She

worked in T & E department as inplant trainee; there she understood the functioning

and responsibilities of department in regards with the SCADA system. She also got brief

knowledge on activities those are carried on telephones and Radio workshop for BEST.

Students Mr.Satyam Gaikwad, Mr.Nikhil Vangule, Mr.Mehank Jadhav, Mr.Adarsh Ki-

zhakoodan went for the internship at Jawaharlal Nehru Post Trust. This internship

programme at JNPT is carried out for the duration of 2 weeks. The main aim of this in-

ternship is to provide the interns with an opportunity to

have detailed account with the operations carried out at

the port and functioning of various departments within the

port. The report contains all the information of the equip-

ments and handling procedure of JNPT. During the intern-

ship, visits were organized to various workshops and each

of the departments. Focus was given to the application of

courses like power systems, protection and switchgear,

distribution micro grids, electrical drives and machines.

Nature Lover’s Corner: Summer is a season of extreme heat accompanied by tremendous humidity in

Mumbai. But if we keep our eyes open and heart filled nature, we can see different col-

our shades blooming around. Typically starting from the month of February, the colorful

flowering trees that can be noticed around us are Red silk cotton, Tiger Claws, Flame of

the Forest, Golden Shower and finally the famous Gulmohor. In this article I am giving a

short introduction to Golden Shower tree. The Golden Shower Tree is a medium-sized

tree with deciduous leaves. The flowers are produced in pendulous racemes, with five

yellow petals of equal size and shape. The fruit is a legume, with a pungent odor and

containing several seeds. The seeds are poisonous. Also known as Amaltas, it is the

state flower of Kerala. The flowers are of ritual importance in the Vishu festival of Kerala

which is considered as the first day of Zodiac calender. In Ayurvedic

medicine, Golden Shower tree is known Aragvadha, meaning

'disease killer'. Each part of the tree is useful for many ailments. This

tree is very useful in Apiculture. It also gives excellent quality char-

coal and tannin. The leaves provide useful green manure. Amaltas is

widely planted in gardens and societies due its ornamental proper-

ties. It makes an excellent show when planted along the roads. The

adjacent picture is taken at Sanjay Gandhi national Park.

When I entered VIT as a DSE student, I was a little Skeptical ,whether VIT would accept a Di-ploma Student & provide equal opportunities as compared to a regular student. But soon, this thought was proved wrong as VIT not only accepted me but also empowered me to explore my abilities and excel in it. As i continued my engineering jour-ney , I enjoyed and learnt a lot as a Core Student Council Mem-ber(2012), then as a General Secretary (2013-14), & as an Advisory Committee member (2015). These different roles help me develop my biggest Asset till date , My Confidence;-My thirst for Lifelong Learning lead me to complete my MBA in HR(Pune) , PGDM in Training and Develop-ment (MHRD) , Certificate Pro-grams in Training from NSDC, Govt. of India etc while learning more about Training from some of Best Trainers in the World in-cluding - Robin Sharma, Jack Canfield, Jeffrey Archer, T Harv Eker, Mac Attram & Gaur Gopal Das . Student Speak:

Hello everyone,

I am an electronics engineering student and I recently gave my 6th

semester exam. During the exams I approached each subject teach-

er for guidance for the respective subjects. The teachers were very

helpful!

VIT has taught me the true meaning of a holistic environment. Here the environment is such that it

motivates me to be better. We have all the amenities we could imagine like, V PRINT, V LIVE, Erp

etc.

The teachers helped a lot to study for my exams! They gave me their notes, solved my doubts

and helped me revise important concepts.

The teachers in this department are very qualified and experienced! They are capable of answer-

ing any doubts you have in Electronics Engineering course. They can even help you if you have

any doubts related to other engineering courses.

Life in Electronics department is very exciting for me. Even in vacations I try out different projects

under the guidance of professors. In the project I use different hardware and software and learn

how to use them and how they are used in real life. My experience in Electronics department is

something that one can only experience practically! Aditya Sawant (BE ETRX)
