Construction Projects on Campus The Facilities department wishes to inform you of the upcoming construction projects which could have an impact on some activities in the College
K building washrooms, on 3rd floor
This project’s objective is to increase accessibility to people with limited mobility, the washrooms located on the 3rd floor of the K building.
But unfortunately, it implies the total shutdown of both these washrooms, men and women, for 10 weeks.
The exact start date of this project has yet to be determined, but is definitely scheduled to take place this fall
D Stairwell
The structure of the stairs located in the rear of the D building, and the underlying concrete, have degraded through the years with the traffic
coming in and out from the N building, and with the use of de-icing salt in past decades. Therefore, it has become a necessity to address the
replacement of certain structural elements, and to freshen up the area.
Consequently, traffic to the N building will be diverted through the cafeteria. Appropriate signage will show the way before construction starts.
Here again, the exact start date of this project has yet to be determined, but is definitely scheduled to take place this fall
N building ventilation / Animal Health Care
The ventilation of the Animal Health Care sector is being entirely overhauled to meet Canadian Council on Animal Care standards. We expect
that, sometime during the month of November, we may need to interrupt the ventilation in some areas of the N building. Affected occupants
will be given a reasonable notice beforehand.

In Memoriam
Anita David It is with deep regret to inform you of the passing of Anita David on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. Anita was a member of The Vanier College Foundation Board until October 2016, and she was also the President of the Gustav Levinschi Foundation. Her functions have given the Foundation the opportunity to award the Gustav Levinschi Scholarships to Vanier students since 1997. Her obituary was published in the Gazette: https://montrealgazette.remembering.ca/obituary/anita-david-1079686977

Commuting Safely and Sustainably Welcome back! For those of you who need to make the trek to campus, the Sustainability Office has a few simple tips to keep you safe during your commute and ease some of your concerns about taking public transit during the pandemic. Mask up: masks are required but go the extra step when you’re wearing your mask and avoid drinking or eating while commuting. It might break the morning routine, but enjoy your coffee later, mask-free, without the risk. Keep it clean: we all know to sanitize before and after but remember that your phone can carry a lot of microbes, so opt to not use it during your commute. Alternately, turn on your favourite podcast, book or playlist and leave it tucked away in your bag to avoid temptation. If you can’t resist, be sure to clean it well before touching it or bringing it to your face. Adapt your schedule if you can: try to travel outside of peak commute times or give yourself extra time so you can skip a train that is too full for you to keep your distance. Consider active transit (biking, walking) for at least part of your trip while the weather is good. It’s less stressful and allows you to enjoy some fresh air before you start or end your day!

DECclic is offering Moodle training in French. Click this link to access a list of workshops: https://formation.decclic.qc.ca/ To register, you will need to login. If you do not have an account, you can create one.
Zoom in Léa If you are teaching an online course, you have the option to videoconference with students using Zoom in Léa (during your scheduled
class hours only, as well as 10 minutes prior to the start of class).
Instructions for Starting Zoom in Léa
Information on using Zoom in Léa can be found on PSI’s Zoom page. Because the situation with the Zoom licenses used in Léa is somewhat evolving, we encourage you to check out that page for updates. To launch Zoom, teachers and students go to “What’s New” on the Omnivox homepage at the start of each class, and click the link provided.
Guest speakers can be invited to a Zoom session after the teacher has started the session. Zoom sessions can be recorded, and whiteboards can be saved, but will need to save them on your own device. You can upload
recordings to Microsoft Stream to share them with students. Visit our PSI Stream page for support in using Stream. Breakout rooms can be created, but not prior to the class session. Security features are available within the Zoom session. Click the security button for options, which include preventing students from
changing their names If you wish to meet with students outside of class time, you will need to use your own personal Zoom account. Please note that currently, those using Zoom with a Vanier email address (outside of Léa) currently have the 40 minute limit lifted. We do not know whether it will be re-imposed this fall. If you prefer to use a platform with no schedule restrictions, you may wish to consider Microsoft Teams. Many new features are now available in Teams to make navigation easier. Breakout rooms should be available soon. Q & A with Skytech on ClassADistance in Léa
Skytech is offering Q & A sessions on their ClassADistance functionalities. The sessions will be run in French but participants are welcome to ask questions in English. Please note that they are not tutorials on how to use Zoom, nor can Skytech answer questions about what features are available in the Vanier Zoom licenses. For that, we recommend you check out our Zoom page. Equipment Loans
The College has ordered equipment to support teachers with online and hybrid learning. Unfortunately, due to high demand, many items are still on back order. Please check the equipment list to learn which ones are available. (Currently, Wacoms Hue document cameras, and four smart phones are available to borrow for a three-week period). Please visit the PSI Equipment for Online Teaching page for details about items that will be available and borrowing procedures.
New Meeting Experience in Teams
Microsoft has begun to roll out improvements to Meetings in Teams. They have promised breakout rooms and the ability to view 49 users at once. These should be available some time early this term. One helpful improvement that is currently available is the new Meeting Experience that makes navigation between meetings and the Teams app, as well as between meetings held simultaneously in various channels, much, much easier. Check out this instructional video for details on how to activate the new meeting experience: How to use Together Mode & other new features in Microsoft Teams This video is one of many created by Youtuber (and former Microsoft employee) Kevin Stratvert. Our PSI
Working in Microsoft Teams page has many more such resources on working in Teams, so be sure to check it out.
PSI’s Website There are many helpful resources on PSI’s website. The pages we most encourage you to check out for help with online or hybrid teaching are found under the menu tabs “Resources for Teachers fduring COVID 19” and “Pedagogy”. Come check out all we have on
offer!
