Holiday Shopping Saturdays by: Susan Hummell

Giving is a gift from the heart, not the wallet; we want to give the best and greatest gifts this time of year, but we are all struggling these days, and wonder how the economy may affect our holiday shopping. Knowing you can use your TBN dollars to purchase gifts instead of the credit cards makes giving much easier, with less stress and more time for the fun things we all want to do.

Holiday shopping is being made easier this year with the showroom being open two Saturdays in December for your convenience. December 11th, and December 18th The Barter Network office and showroom will be open for your shopping pleasure from 10:00am until 2:00pm. Stop by and finish your shopping early, and avoid those high credit card bills by using your trade dollars instead of cash.

Many gift ideas will be available, toys, home decor, safety items, jewelry and household items, and much, much more. Holiday shopping has never been so simple. Certificates and Universal Scrip are also available for holiday giving.

If your company has items for sale or certificates for services, please inquire about placing them in the showroom for easier sales…

We at The Barter Network are looking forward to assisting you in your holiday shopping.

Wishing you the happiest of Holidays to everyone, and may the new year bring you all peace and prosperity.

December 11th and December 18th The Barter Network office and showroom will be open for your shopping pleasure from 10:00am until 2:00pm.

Against My Fathers Advice, we became “The Barter Network”By: G. Jason Bergenske

Looking back over 4 years ago as I decided I was going to open a barter exchange. I remember the brainstorming for all the things that involved the company including what I was going to call it, what our vision and mission would be, etc. At the age of only 20 I began to tell my dad (which was my role model and whom I looked to for advice) on what I wanted to do, and how I planned on doing it.

I remember it like it was yesterday, I had a budget plan laid out, a membership goal, etc. My dad told me I was absolutely crazy, and that I should stay in the business I was in, which at the time I owned a Photography and Cinematography company that I had opened when I was only 17. Indeed I made great money, had an established company and because of this company I had bought my first home when I was only 19. The problem was I had no pas-sion for this career any longer. At this point my company was do-ing over 350 weddings a year, and the company was open almost 24/7. I worked 7 days a week and 365 days a year. Literally, even Christmas, new years, etc. I was burnt out, and just wanted out.

So against my dad’s advice in the beginning I began the process of opening The Barter Network. Completely left a career that was supporting my very comfortable lifestyle to begin a completely new career starting from the beginning. Needless to say, even though my father was not a fan of my decision to open The Barter Network in the beginning he soon became my biggest supporter. He began to realize that now I was in something that I loved, and that it was not the “absolutely crazy” idea he once thought.

As I began hitting the streets going door to door, The Barter Net-work began to have a membership base, 10 members, 20 mem-bers, 30, 50, 75, 100, 200, etc. Opening The Barter Network to date has been the best idea I have ever had. To date we have saved companies throughout Central Florida and surrounding areas over 30 million dollars by trading what they have for what they want.

Looking back, had I stayed in the Photography and Cinematogra-phy business we would have been put out of business due to the re-cession that we now find ourselves in. We were a luxury business, and due to the current economy, people aren’t using luxury items in their lifestyles. The timing for opening The Barter Network was impeccable, just in time before the floor of the economy dropped. The Barter Network opened to help Central Florida businesses get through those tough times and we are here to stay.

Christina’s 1 year is coming up!By: G. Jason Bergenske

So, I have always heard of the term “time fly’s when you’re having fun”, but here at The Barter Network we have realized this to be true. We will be celebrating Christina’s 1 year anniversary, and are delighted of her help in the significant growth of The Barter Network along with her great customer service toward our valued members. It is always good to have young new eyes to look at any project or business, and this is where Christina has shown her strengths to us. She has taken over several projects within our company, some examples include: our Quarterly Newsletter and our monthly auto-ship of Universal Scrip. She is a goal oriented, focused, and get things done kinda girl - Exactly what we were looking for. Needless to say, during this month make sure you call and talk to Christina and wish her a Happy 1 year anniversary, oh and her office number

is (407) 641-0221 x9580. We are looking forward to many more an-niversaries for chrinstina. On a Personal Note: Christina, Thank You for being a loyal and dedicated member of our staff.

Excitement! The adrenaline is pumping through my blood as we get ready for The Barter Network’s 4th Holiday Tradeshow. This will be my first year attending and as far as I can tell from all the members ranting and raging about how great it is I can only expect it to be a blast. As my excitement and adrenaline keep building up as we get closer and

closer to the tradeshow the one thing that’s for sure is that I am super excited that I will be able to get the chance to meet and greet all of our wonderful members that make The barter Network such a great place. Another reason why I’ve got my blood pumping about being at this year’s tradeshow is that I now have an opportunity to give our members the opportunity of a lifetime to do some one stop shopping for holiday gifts for friends and family all on barter. So if you are just as excited as I am get your family and friends together and come join us on November 16th, 2010 at The Bahia Shrine Center (2300 Pembrook Dr, Orlando, FL 32810) 6pm sharp.

MOVING FORWARD THROUGH THE HOLIDAYSThat’s right, all of us business people know the new rules. No unnecessary spending and don’t let any customers off the phone until you’ve closed the deal. If you need a day off then maybe you’re not really cut out for this kinda work anymore. It’s a 24/7 job. Not just building your business, but keeping your business in operation. Clients are tougher because they’ve all done their research and want to buy it for what you paid for it. Profit margins are slimming down and in-ventories are at an all time low. You’ve got to research the competitors so that you know their product and pricing just like it was yours. Know your own product inside and out so that you can answer any and all questions that get flung at you from all those extremely picky clients. And now, say it one more time loud and clear, “The cus-tomer is always right”. That’s right, there’s no more being cocky and telling off a cli-ent. The buyers are in the driver’s seat and they all want what they want and they want it now. You’re right again; Generation X and Y not only want but need instant gratifica-tion. They see the new I-Phone or I-Pad and have to have one now. Even if they don’t understand the function of the prod-uct. They’re not like the baby boomers that will wait until the price comes down or un-til its birthday time. They want it now. And if you do free shipping, then you won the deal. Enough about those greedy insolent youngsters.

This year we all need to take care of those close to us. This tells everyone you know and do business with that you are positive and functioning in this new and sordid economy. So how can we keep in a good holiday mood with all the gloom and doom on the economic forefront? How can I take care of

my employees during these tough economic times? What can I do to take care of my out of town relatives this holiday season? When will I find time to get everything done this holiday season, it’s always so hectic? I have answers to all of your Bah Humbug problems. Here’s what you’re gonna do. I’ll be explicit and you need to follow these instructions to the letter. Step (1) Make sure you take care of yourself first. That’s right if the plane is going down put on your oxygen mask first. You can’t help anyone if you’re not okay. This means that you need to have a great attitude so that your employees will benefit from the trickledown effect. There’s no better way to get happy than to make those around you happy. Step (2) PLAN AHEAD! This can be the first year that you didn’t procrastinate. I can’t really emphasize this enough! Murphy’s Law kicks in on December 15th, and everything and anything will happen unexpectedly. Get out the decorations early, mail cards and gifts early, and make sure that your family and your employees are taken care of. Step (3) Call now to make arrangements for your family and all your employees to come to the Barter Network Holiday Tradeshow on November 16th. You will make a lot of people happy very quickly. Last year we gave away $25,000.00 trade dollars to all of our clients that attended. I

think it averaged out to about a few hundred dollars for every client that walked through our door. So you’ll have the extra and FREE funds for the family, you can give a Holiday Bonus to employees that they can use that night or whenever they want, and there will be plenty of holiday drinks and munchies for everyone. This is a great time to purchase gifts for those out of town relatives. So you can make sure that you take care of crazy old Aunt Myrtle. It’s a wonderful feeling to finally nail down that last gift, and we’ll have plenty. Last year the Holiday Tradeshow did over $50,000.00 worth of business. That’s a lot of nice gifts. Step (4) Sit back and watch a few parades with the family and think of all the people that you made happy, especially yourself. Happy Holidays

TBN certificates are great gifts for family and friends, employee benefits or a great time for a night out. Whether it’s Christmas or someone’s birthday the gift of TBN certificates is a way to show you care. You can also use TBN certificates to show an employee that their hard work has been appreciated. Last but not least you can reward yourself and family with a great night out without spending cash. You can save cash and have fun.
