The Chronicle Newsletter Title Volume 8 Issue 7 July 1, 2015 Dear Friends of the Community Center, May and June have been extremely hectic months. My apologies for not having a newsletter in the mail last month. I have been very busy with fundraisers for the food pantries and I also had to have two sur- geries in the past few weeks. I know many of you wait for the news- letter in the mail and on-line. If you need to check dates on anything and your newsletter has not arrived, please feel free to call me at any time and I will be happy to answer any questions. Please also check our Facebook page as I do try to post all of the upcoming events there. We held the Rock out Hunger for KidsConcert on June 27th and had to shorten our concert time due to the rain. We are planning to hold another concert in August. Please watch for more details. My deepest appreciation to Tom McCusker and A.J. Parrish for doing a wonderful job as DJs for the concert! The children enjoyed the free face painting and tattoos and of course the terrific ice cream donated by Maple Valley Creamery! Many thanks to all our sponsors: Knight Productions, Legends Entertainment, Big Es Supermarket, Easthampton Haunted House, Easthampton Diner, Dunkin Do- nuts, Subway of Southampton, Party Patrol Rentals of Southampton, Maple Valley Creamery, and Mantis Graphics. NICKLES FOR THE PANTRY In 2009 Big E’s Supermarket started a reward program. For each re-usable

bag used by their customers, they received a 5 cent credit slip. The intent of the program was to reduce the number of plastic grocery bags from going in-to the waste stream. In the past year, customers donated 7300 credit slips to

the Easthampton Community Center Food Pantry. This made a donation to the pantry of

$365.00! Big E’s decided to reward their customers and their community by matching

dollar for dollar all money donated. We received a check from Big E’s Supermarket for $730.00! Thank you all for using the reusable bags to

help our community and our planet .

KIDS HELPING KIDS In early June when there was a discussion in the media about perhaps having to close or limit the Kid’s Summer Bag Program and not being able to feed the children this summer, I received calls from all of

the elementary schools. The kids wanted to help other kids.

Center and Pepin Schools did food drives and collected two car loads of

food!

Maple School had a theme this year teaching the children about recycling. The children used recy-cled paper for bookmarks, made beautiful clay pendants with recy-cled materials, and had a tag sale for recycled goods. They raised $725.

for the Kid’s Pantry.

White Brook Middle School held a “Super Hero” Day. For a donation to the

Kid’s Pantry, students and staff could wear t-shirt to school depicting their fa-

vorite “Super hero”. They raised $101.

White Brook Middle School’s “Free the Children” afterschool pro-gram collected a car full of food and $577.23 in donations.

We had some very special children that asked people to give food and donations to the Pantry in honor of their birthdays! Courtney

collect clothing donations, food donations and monetary donations for her 16th birthday. Oscar collected foods for his birthday gift .

Jordan collected food and monetary donations to make sure we had enough to feed the children this summer.

Hats off to the children in the greater Easthampton area for demonstrating the spirit of being greast community members! We are very proud of all of you!
