On Saturday, September 12, many
Bradford students and families
participated in the annual
Mebane-On-the-Move fitness festival.
We had many Archers run the 5K and
even a few took on the 10K.
Congratulation to our XC runners who
took home several prizes and all our
Running Club 1 Mile Racers!

Art: Students finished their bird drawings by adding branches,
leaves, and berries.
Music: We learned about woodwind instruments and were able
to see a flute being played. We also learned the difference
between melody and harmony and began learning some new
songs.
Science: This week we reviewed
examples from the Phyla Mollusca and
Echinodermata. We also introduced
the Phyla Arthropoda and Annelida.

History: The Flood, Genesis 6-9. We talked about the
consequences of sin, and God’s faithfulness in spite of our sin.
Reviewed 1st verse of the B.C. History Facts song.
Music: Woodwind family of instruments, including holding a
real flute; discussed differences between different instrument
families; began learning new songs.
Art: Shapes in Still Lifes: squares, triangles, rectangles, and
organic shapes. We examined Giotto’s pictures to look for
shapes in his paintings. They created their own still life picture.
PE: Balance, leaping, and hopping
Science: The 5 Senses Unit: Focus on hearing, identifying items
by the sound they make. Played find the timer game.
Verse: Review Proverbs 1:7 and 1Corinthians 13:4-8a(NKJV)

focus on Henry Hudson and the naming of the Hudson
River. Students were briefly introduced to the Quakers and
William Penn, the man after whom Pennsylvania was
named. We also continued memorizing the poem “In 1492.”

Math: This week we completed our second assessment,
studied word problems about separating, and learned to
multiply by one-digit numbers and find missing factors.
History: St. Benedict and Monasticism: students enjoyed
learning about monastic life in the Middle Ages and working
with illuminated manuscripts while listening to 9th and 10th
century Gregorian chants.
Grammar: We continued to classify sentences, learned to
create our own practice sentences, added eight more
vocabulary words to our list, and began working with
predicate words in the beginning of a sentence.
Writing: Before completing their work on Peter and
the Wolf stories, students practiced writing a 3-point
expository paragraph.
Literature: Door in the Wall — we continued preparing and
studying parts for our small play/presentation and began
reading our next book, Rolf and the Viking Bow.
Latin: We began our study of Latin Primer B with a verb
review and new vocabulary.
Science: This week in Science we learned how to identify trees
by their bark, leaves, and seeds, and began studying the
differences between monocots
and dicots.
Art: Using cylinders, the students
created a city of high rises
complete with windows and UFOs.
Music: The students have begun
learning some B-A-G songs (on pg.
10). They may practice anything
up to the bottom of pg. 10. Please
remember to have your children
practice at least 30 minutes per
week (i.e. 5 min/day for 6 days or
10 min/day for 3 days, etc.).
P.E.: The students learned about dribbling and how to play
soccer in a big field setting.

History: We continued our study of explorers, this week
focusing on those who explored Canada and the Northeast
sections of North America - John Cabot, Jacques Cartier, and
Samuel de Champlain.
Reading: After a short rest at Beorn’s house, the travelers
were equipped with supplies for their journey through
Mirkwood and sent on their way with strict warnings not to
leave the path.
Grammar: We added prepositions and prepositional phrases
to our sentence classification exercises and began learning our
preposition song.
Latin: Learning the third declension neuter i-stem endings, we
have come to the end of Latin Primer B!
Writing: The students finished their Ancient Olympic
paragraphs and we began a new set of mini research papers.
Art: We began a new still life picture in pencil of blocks and
chess pieces.

Grammar: Prepositions and adverbs, adverb exceptions,
natural and inverted order, noun charts, and the Chapter Three
application test.
6th Literature: This week we discussed our Poe assessment and
did extra work on literary terms. Then, we introduced
Transcendentalism, analyzing the merits and deficiencies of this
offshoot of Romanticism. We then read and discussed two of
the classic texts of this movement and examined their views of
the individual, nature, and morality in the light of Scripture.
Logic: This week the students learned about how to spot red
herrings in people’s arguments.
Music: We finished viewing the documentary about the life of
Franz Joseph Haydn. The Composer Quest is due on Tuesday,

September 29. We also continued practicing Christmas
program pieces.
Art: We continued practicing the shadows and shading of
faces.
P.E.: The students learned about through balls and how to

Seventh Grade Omnibus I: This week we finished Gilgamesh,
discussing its view of death and its version of the Genesis
flood story. We also acted out our version of the play in class,
which proved to be an effective vehicle for grasping the
thematic content and emotional depth of the story. We
finished this week with an assessment on our first three units.

Algebra: The students learned about the additive property of
equality, the multiplicative property of equality, and
evaluating equations.
Science: The students learned about the law of conservation
of energy.
Omnibus II: This week we finished up our study of Eusebius
with a timeline project, the aim of which was to identify the
key people and events of Church History. We then passed out
Augustine’s Confessions and began reading Augustine’s own
account of his early years. We also watched and discussed a
presentation on Augustine’s life and influence on the church.
8th Composition: More with commas and other forms of
punctuation, pronoun case and participial phrases, difficult
cases of subject-verb agreement, and an end-of-week
assessment.
Music: We finished viewing the documentary about the life of
Franz Joseph Haydn. The Composer Quest is due on Tuesday,
September 29. We also continued practicing Christmas
program pieces.
Art: The students are using their new knowledge of drawing
cloth to recreate a piece of a painting of cloth from the
masters.
P.E.: The students learned about through balls and how to
play soccer on a larger field.
