Lynn Armanino President’s Message June 2014

Flag Day is always June 14th. It celebrates the

adoption of the American flag which happened on

this date in 1777. Be sure to fly your flag and

remember you can turn in your old, tired flags to us

at the luncheons and we'll insure they receive a

proper retirement.

The BBQ for St. Jude's Ranch was over the top.

Andria Coleman did a fabulous job organizing this

event. Not only was the BBQ outstanding, we had a

quick auction prior to the kids joining us. In 15

minutes Kevin Wall, of KXNT, officiated and

auctioned off 2 of the kid's art works and a

commemorative plate of the 111th Congress with a

VIP tour in Washington DC plus handfuls of air if

people wanted to donate. Everywhere I looked

people were waving $20 bills. We raised over $1,600

in record time. It was awesome! What a site to

behold! Thank you to everyone.

Our second Candidates' Forum in May was another

great success. Nickie Diersen and her time keeper,

Linda Schlinger, again kept us on target and we

learned more about the wonderful candidates

running for office. With early voting already under-

way we have some tough decisions to make. If you

need a ride please reach out to anyone on the board

and we'll help. We can vote at SCA June 1st through

3rd.

I had the honor of attending the newly formed

Columbian Chamber of Commerce of Las Vegas

and Nevada's swearing-in of officers in May. Judge

Adriana Escobar officiated as Governor Brian

Sandoval looked on. The speeches were spoken in

Spanish and English so I could appreciate the

comments made by entrepreneurs and small business

owners in this fine organization. We need to do

more with the Hispanic community as we share the

same family values, work ethics and dreams for our

family's future.

Purchase your tickets for the July 12th RWSN PAC

2nd Annual Gala. The guest keynote speaker will

be Dinesh D'Souza at the Venetian. If you have any

questions go to http://republicanwinpac.com/ or call

Daryll Sulliman at 702-979-9724 (PAC Chairman)

or me at 702-248-1414. This is one event you won't

want to miss!

Once the primary is over our work begins in earnest

to help get Republicans elected. Gayola Borzick is

heading up our phone committee. When she calls you

to help, try to commit at least one hour a week if

you can do nothing else. We're all still disappointed

from the results of 2012. Let's not be disappointed

with 2014 and, just as important, we need to stay in

gear for 2016! We make a difference!

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. SEE, I TOLD YOU WE DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

By Virginia Finnegan

The day after it hit the press that Karl Rove was talking about Mrs. Clinton’s brain injury, I had the pleasure and honor of participating in a round table discussion with the esteemed Karl Rove. Before the meeting started he walked across the room to introduce himself and I felt like I was meeting an old friend. I told him that I thought he was one of the smartest men I knew because he always agreed with me.

After a short opening statement, the meeting turned into a question and answer

session. He was totally charming, full of facts and details just like on Fox News. He knew all the names and all the players as he clicked off the races we have to win to take back the Senate.

At some point he starting talking about the last Presidential race and said that after

the election he had learned the specifics of what the Democrats were worried about before the election. The Dems had several concerns, and right in the middle of listing them Mr. Rove said “and the Republican Federated Women’s Clubs.” Whee!!! I nearly fell off my chair. He really said the Democrats were worried about the Women’s Clubs.

Rove also talked about how much money his group had put into Dean Heller’s

Senate race and how close it had been. He credited the victory to his group and the “scandal” about the bill Shelly Berkley passed to help her husband. After the meeting I couldn’t resist telling him that he might think that his group had won the Heller race but I knew that the Southern Hills Republican Women’s Club had elected Dean Heller. He laughed and said that we all elected him.

He gave each of us a copy of his latest book and personally signed them. I’ll put

one of them on the silent auction table at the Red, White and Blue Gala in July and save the other for our club’s Christmas Party.

I’ve always known that our hard work and dedication was important to the Republican

Party and our Candidates, but it did my soul so much good to hear that the Democrats think so too.

May 20, 2014 Leaders with vision solve problems. We know that there is a substantial voter registration gap between Republicans and Democrats in Clark County. That is the result of a greater problem. The greater problem with the Clark County Republican party is that we have allowed ourselves to simply complain about losing elections and blame our elected officials for our failure as a party. The solution is to roll up our sleeves as a party and do the work necessary to win elections by working with our elected officials to grow our party. Ask yourself these two questions: 1-What is your precinct number? 2-Are you a precinct captain? If you are not able to answer these questions, contact Melody Howard. Melody is our Precinct Director for the county party. She can be reached at [email protected]. Once you are able to answer these questions, you are ready to begin to grow the party. The CCRP is working under the RNC Victory 365 program to grow our base. The CCRP is going back to the three basic steps to win elections: 1-Identify the voters 2-Register the voters 3-Get the voters to the polls These are the steps to grow the Republican base. If you want to win elections, then become a precinct captain. I am the precinct captain for precinct 1612 and I have a goal to register 33 people in my precinct. When you see me, ask me why I chose 33 as my target number. Talk is cheap. Action delivers the results needed to turn our government around. Results take time. Steady and con-sistent focus on our objectives will deliver positive results. Let’s get to work! Chairman McKeon

American Flag Etiquette. Flag Day is June 14th

Federal law stipulates many aspects of flag etiquette. The section of law dealing with American Flag etiquette is generally referred to as the Flag Code. Some general guidelines from the Flag Code answer many of the most common questions:

The flag should be lighted at all times, either by sunlight or illuminated at night. The flag should be flown only in fair weather, unless the flag is designed for inclement weather use. The flag should never be dipped to any person or thing. It is flown upside down only as a distress signal. The flag should not be used for any decoration in general. Bunting of blue, white and red stripes is available for these purposes. The blue stripe of the bunting should be on the top. The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose. It should not be embroidered, printed or otherwise impressed on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, boxes, or anything intended to be discarded after temporary use. Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff or halyard. The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, fireman, policeman and members of patriotic organizations. The flag should never have any mark, insignia, letter, word, number, figure, or drawing of any kind placed on it, or attached to it. The flag should never be used for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything. When the flag is lowered, no part of it should touch the ground or any other object; it should be received by waiting hands and arms. To store the flag it should be folded neatly and ceremoniously. The flag should be cleaned and mended when necessary. When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner.

Don't forget to bring in any old American flag that you want to retire. We give them to Sydney Ingram and she, in turn, gives them to a Sun City Anthem veteran who belongs to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Each year this SCA veteran takes a Boy Scout troop to a Crematorium Funeral home where they conduct a ceremony while the flags are burned.

In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on that day in 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The United States Army also celebrates the Army Birthday on this date; Congress adopted "the American continental army" after reaching a consensus position in the Committee of the Whole on June 14, 1775.

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress. Flag Day is not an official federal holiday. Title 36 of the United States Code, Subtitle I, Part A, CHAPTER 1, § 110 is the official statute on Flag Day; however, it is at the President's dis-cretion to officially proclaim the observance.

On June 14, 1937, Pennsylvania became the first (and only) U.S. state to celebrate Flag Day as a state holiday, beginning in the town of Rennerdale. New York Statutes designate the second Sunday in June as Flag Day, a state holiday.

Perhaps the oldest continuing Flag Day parade is at Fairfield, Washington. Beginning in 1909 or 1910, Fairfield has held a parade every year since, with the possible exception of 1918, and celebrated the "Centennial" parade in 2010, along with some other commemorative events.

Quincy, Massachusetts has had an annual Flag Day parade since 1952 and claims it "is the longest-running parade of its kind in the nation." The largest Flag Day parade is held annually in Troy, New York, which bases its parade on the Quincy parade and typically draws 50,000 spectators.

“The Rich Man, The Poor Man, and the Politician” A Tale of Income Inequality There is a rich man and there is a poor man. The rich man makes a $1000 a day. The poor man makes $10 a day. The difference in their income is $1000—$10 = $990 a day. The rich man builds a factory. Now the rich man makes $2000 a day He gives the poor man a job at the factory. Now the poor man makes $100 a day. The difference in there income is $2000—$100 = $1900 a day A politician decides the “income gap” has grown too large. He taxes the rich man $1000 a day, and gives it to the poor man. The rich man can no longer afford to run the factory. He closes the factory. The poor man loses his job. Everything is as it was before. And the politician takes credit for closing “the income gap”

Normandy Invasion, 1944 By: Rana Goodman On 6 June 1944 the Western Allies landed in northern France, opening the long-awaited "Second Front" against Hitler's Germany. The Normandy invasion was in a strategically more important region, setting the stage to drive the Germans from France and ultimately destroy the National Socialist regime. It would mark the end of the war the Greatest Generation had ever seen. The landing on the beaches of Normandy was a combined effort of allied forces and it marked the end of the most horrific war of our time, WWII. We honor the veterans of that war, regardless of their homeland and thank them for their service. My own father served under General Mountbatten in that action with the British Combined Ops, The United Kingdom’s form of the US’s Green Beret. I hope he knows how proud I have always been of his service to our homeland as well as to our adopted one, the Untied States. Leading the D-Day operations were: Allied Expeditionary Naval Forces--Admiral Sir Bertram Ramsay 21st Army Group--General Sir Bernard L. Montgomery Allied Expeditionary Air Forces--Air Marshal Sir Trafford Leigh- Mallory Supreme Commander--General Dwight D.
