IN THE MSJ DOMINICAN TRADITION May 21, 2014 Volume 7, Issue 37

Dear OLG Families and Friends, As we continue honoring Mary, our Mother and Patroness, Our Lady of Guadalupe, spend-ing some moments each day during this month of May, honoring all the great women in our lives, let us pray the second of the three part prayer, A Prayer For The Times: Litany of Women for the Church, by S. Joan Chittister, OSB:

We call on the holy women who went before us, channels of Your Word in testaments old and new, to intercede for us so that we might be given the grace to become what they have been for the honor and glory of God. Saint Esther, who pleaded against power for the liberation of the people, -Pray for us. Saint Elizabeth of Judea, who recognized the value of another woman, Saint Mary Magdalene, minister of Jesus, first evangelist of the Christ, Saint Joan of Arc, who put no law above the law of God, Saint Clare of Assisi, who confronted the pope with the image of woman as equal, Saint Julian of Norwich, who proclaimed for all of us the motherhood of God, Saint Catherine of Siena, to whom the pope listened, Saint Teresa of Avila, who brought women's gifts to the reform of the church, Saint Edith Stein, who brought fearlessness to faith, Saint Elizabeth Seton, who broke down boundaries between lay women and religious by wedding motherhood and religious life, Saint Dorothy Day, who led the church to a new sense of justice...

We want to honor Fremont Bank who celebrated their 50th Anniversary by granting 50 non-profits $10,000 each! We were one of the blessed recipients of their tremendous generosi-ty! What a wonderful way to celebrate! OLG School is just 5 days younger than Fremont Bank. God certainly loves a cheerful giver! In 9 days the Class of 2014 will be graduating. Lessons From Pope Francis… 4. ENGAGE Pope Francis engages the world with his gen-uine smile, humble spirit, and desire to rub elbows with us. While busy leading the Church, he makes time for the people who make up the Church. We see him posing for a selfie with visitors to the Vatican and inviting a teen with Down syndrome to ride on the pope-mobile. When caught in a traffic jam en route to a World Youth Day event, he opened his window and greeted people on the crowded street. He says, “I manage to look at individual persons, one at a time, to enter into personal contact with whomever I have in front of me.” The archbishop who heads the Vatican agen-cy for handing out alms says Pope Francis told him, “You can sell your desk. You don’t need it….You need to go out and look for the poor.” The archbishop explains, “This is the concept: be with people and share their lives, even for 15, 30 minutes, an hour.” He tells how Pope Francis, as cardinal, “would go out at night in Buenos Aires, not just to find people, talk with them, or buy them something to eat….He would eat with them….This is what he wants from me.” And us.

Reflect: Do I make time for the people I encounter each day? How can I seek out the needy?

Worldly Peace (from Prayers for Those Around the World by Kayla Moraida, grade 6). We pray for wordly peace each day. Lord, help us put an end to segregation, war, and homeless. Help

us to think more of others and about how our actions impact those around us. Help us to be peacemakers like your son. Amen.

Please pray for the soul of Scott Miller, uncle of Elena

Estacio, gr 7 and Brandon Estacio, gr 4. May he be welcomed to the heavenly banquet of the Lord and may his family be comforted in their grief.
