MARCH 2014 VOLUME 61/ ISSUE 3
The
Messenger
MAR. MESSENGER
CURRENT RESIDENT OR...
In his book “All In”, Mark Batterson provides an interesting perspective of
1 Samuel 14. He explains that during the early days of Saul’s kingship the
Philistines controlled the western border of Israel, and 1 Samuel 14 reveals that
a group of Philistine forces had crossed this border. Saul seemed content to
keep the status quo and not react; in fact the Bible says he was under a
pomegranate tree with six hundred men. Saul was satisfied with “existing”, but
his son Johnathan wanted more. He and his armor bearer went to meet the
Philistines. There comes moments in our lives when enough is enough. We
reject the status quo and we refuse to remain the same. “Going all out for God”
always starts with one step of faith; a step to remove ourselves from the status
quo of our lives. It’s often the longest, hardest, scariest step, but it’s the one step
that changes everything. This was that moment for Johnathan.
As you read this passage you are aware that Johnathan’s strategy for victory was insane; he chose the
most difficult, dangerous, and daring option possible. In reality he chose to attempt something only God
could accomplish. He knew he would only be successful if God intervened; this was not a safe plan but a
daring plan for God’s glory. Johnathan understood what many Christians still need to learn. God’s will is
not safe; it’s an invitation to join Him in a daring plan for His glory. Many of us let fear dictate our
decisions instead of faith, and we end up under a pomegranate tree instead of running to join God in His
daring plan for His glory.
How does the story end? God, through Johnathan, defeated the Philistines that day and it inspired all
the Israelite forces to push the Philistine forces back. All of this began with one decision, one step of faith
to reject the status quo and join God in His daring plan. Today you have many opportunities as an
individual and as a part of Wrightsboro Baptist Church to choose to take that step and join Christ in His
daring plan for His glory. Are you going to stay under the pomegranate tree content in the status quo,
or are you going to run and join Christ in His plan to reveal His glory for all to see? “Going all out for God”
always starts with one step of faith; will you take it?
For His Glory,
Pastor Brad

WE NEED EACH OTHER
“Let us be concerned about one another in order
to promote love and good works.”
Hebrews 10:24
It would be nice to be self-sufficient but the fact is
WE NEED EACH OTHER. This became very
clear with the recent ice and snow storms. Work
crews were needed to salt and keep the roads clear
to drive on, electrical crews were essential for pow-
er to be restored and postal and delivery
workers were important to make sure mail
and packages arrived on time.
God has gifted each of us as His children to
work together as the family of God. We encourage
one another when we gather for worship,
Bible Study, planning, training, prayer, missions,
visitation ministry, fellowship and of course
eating and having fun together. As we gather and go
out using our gifts we are inspired to
become more like Christ. How good
and pleasant it is when we as brothers
and sisters recognize our daily
need for God and for one another.
Be Blessed & Seek to be a Blessing!

Minister of Education
“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.”
John 4:23
When you come to worship on Sunday morning, are you truly a worshiper or are you a spectator?
If when asking ourselves that question, we discover that we are more spectator than
participant, what can we do to truly become a worshiper? Dynamic corporate worship is the
result of people coming together who are longing to be in God’s presence. It is not the result of every musical note being perfect or when every word spoken is done so in an eloquent way. One important factor is the
individual’s personal worship time. When we as individuals encounter God personally every day
and are in a right relationship with Him, our times of corporate worship can be an awesome experience.

Psalms 46: 10-11
You may have been reading the Psalms and run into a very
mysterious word, “Selah”. Maybe you passed it up and kept
reading, no knowing what it means and that there’s a lesson
for you.
“Selah” is commonly translated as a “pause” or a
“suspension” from the music contained in the Psalms.
Why would there be a pause? The pause was there for the
Israelites to take a moment and reflect on what they were
singing. They knew the words and they would sing them
with loud praise, but it was still necessary to take a quiet
moment and meditate on what they meant.
The lesson for us is simple when reading scripture - we need
to frequently take moments to reflect and meditate.
