Children and youth of Precious Blood Parish and its surrounding schools are invited to join the Totus Tuus (Latin for totally Yours) camp this summer from July 17-22, 2016. Totus Tuus is an Archdiocesan program whereby seminarians and college students travel to different parishes, spreading the Good News through catecheti- cal instruction, Mass, confession, songs, and games. The Totus Tuus Summer Program consists of a Day Camp (for students entering Grades 1-6) and an Evening Program (for students entering Grades 7-12). We encourage you to sign your children up for this wonderful faith development summer experience! Please refer to the Church Bulletin for more details. Our Grade 8s are gradu- ating and going on to high school next year. We are proud of the fine young men and women they have become and we wish them good luck and God’s blessings in all of their future endeavours. We bid farewell to our occasional teachers and educational assistants. In parting, we would like you all to know what a joy it has been to have you share your gifts and tal- ents in our faith-filled community for the past school year. Our Vice-Principal, Sofie Sommer has been an integral part of our school’s community for the past year. We wish her well in her retirement. We welcome our new Vice-Princi- pal, Cheryliane Gomes to our PBS staff and look forward to an exciting school year. We wish Superintendent John Shain a happy retirement and thank Father Steven for being a central part of our Precious Blood community’s faith formation. We extend our appreciation to our Trustee Mike Del Grande; MPP Brad Duguid; MP Salma Zahid; and Councillor Michael Thompson and our school staff for their support and service throughout the year. Merci! The end of the school year leaves us with many fond memories of your children. On behalf of the staff we wish you and your families a peaceful, restful and safe summer. God Bless. Dear Precious Blood Families,

Once again, it seems that we just began in September and now here we are—the final edition of the PBS Express. We want to extend our sincerest gratitude to Mr. Cos-

grove and the staff and students for all of the creativity and inspiration they have put into our newsletters throughout this school year.

A lot of exciting learning opportunities have occurred at Precious Blood Catholic School since our last PBS Express. Our very talented staff and students have wrapped up another successful musical production of The Lion King! We want to thank our CSPC

(Catholic School Parent Council) members and all our volunteers for their commitment and dedication to contributing to the success and wellbeing of our students and their families! You may have noticed that our gardens continue to grow with the help of our

school community as Stewards of Creation! We thank all of the coaches and students that participated in our extra-curricular

teams and activities for representing our school with dignity, a strong commitment to teamwork and sportsmanship.

Our Student Led Learning Walk engaged our school community whereby ideas, creativ-ity and collaboration were made visible with a focused effort in Mathematics. How-ever, during Catholic Education Week we demonstrated our commitment to our faith

by collaborating with Father Steven and St. Catherine School and St. Kevin School at Precious Blood Church to share how we imbue faith in our curriculum.

Our students celebrated the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Holy First Communion and Confirmation. Children and youth of Precious Blood Parish and its surrounding schools

are invited to join the Totus Tuus (Latin for totally Yours) camp this summer from July 17-22, 2016. Totus Tuus is an Archdiocesan program whereby seminarians and college students travel to different parishes, spreading the Good News through catecheti-

cal instruction, Mass, confession, songs, and games. The Totus Tuus Summer Program consists of a Day Camp (for students entering Grades 1-6) and an Evening Program (for

students entering Grades 7-12). We encourage you to sign your children up for this wonderful faith development summer experience! Please refer to the Church Bulletin for more details. Congratulations to Archbishop Larry Saldanha on his 80th Birthday

    Celebration!

With the end of the school year, there are some partings. Our Grade 8s are gradu-ating and going on to high school next year. We are proud of the fine young men and

women they have become and we wish them good luck and God’s blessings in all of their future endeavours.

  • Best BuddiesCatholic Education Week May 1 to May 6 This year’s Catholic Education Week theme was, “Catholic Edu-

cation: Opening Doors of Mercy”. The disciples asked Jesus to “in-

crease our faith”. That is our goal in publicly-funded Catholic educa-tion in collaboration with the fam-ily and the parish. We know that

keeping the theme of faith alive is a constant challenge in the world of 2016. But, we can be assured by the words of the disciples, “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive

    mercy” – Matthew 5;7.

    Student-Led Learning Walk

Presented by St. Catherine, St. Kevin and Precious Blood Schools

parents and children were invited to attend mass the weekend of April

30 and May 1 to celebrate together Catholic Education week. After

the Mass our visitors went to the church hall and were guided by the students as they showed and ex-

plained the work done by them and other students.

You are the visible face of the invisible Father,of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy:let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weaknessin order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error:let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.

Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with His anointing,so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressedand restore sight to the blind.

We ask this of you, Lord Jesus, through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy; you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever andever.

    Amen.

We received a special visit from Emily the Best Buddies Coor-dinator to our Best Buddies lunchtime games day!!! We had a great time with Emily, Ms. Magony, Ms. Greco and Ms. Rug-

    giero.

    Crowning of Mary

On Wednesday, May 11, the Rosary Apostolate celebrated the crowning of Mary with the students in the school's gymnasium. We wish to thank the Rosary volunteers for visiting our school each month to lead our students in the saying of the rosary.

    Chess Club

I was privileged to belong to the Precious Blood Chess Club. My team mates and I attended regular lunch time practice and en-couraged each other when we were playing at the tournament. While playing against students from other schools was a little nerve wracking but overall it was a lot of fun. Go PBS Go! Also, I thank the teach-ers Ms. Sarmiento and Mr. Mates for coaching us.

    Education WeekMay 1 - 6

Parents, Grandparents and Students are invited to visit the students' work on dis-play at the Precious Blood Parish Hall to engage in a

    learning conversation.

  • The Lion King

In April PBS witnessed the second annual production of the spectacular musical “The Lion King.” Even with limited practice on the stage, grades 1 to 4 went through a ton of sweat to produce a fantastic show. All of the art made from Ms. McGregor’s class made the gym much more beautiful. The teachers could not do everything, so they decided to select a group of grade eights to lend a helping hand. From the dazzling make-up to the playing of music, that was all on us! (With the assistance of the teachers.)

If you were there on the scheduled nights, you would have heard all of massive clapping and cheer-ing from the wonderful audience. There is a ton of names that I should mention, but who we should RE-ALLY be thanking is the Lead Director, Ms. Soraine.

    Learning through Maps

Recently in Grade 8, students have been creating a series of political maps of Canada. They used the five map-making attributes to assist them in seeing how a visual representatiion of the boundary changes of Canada were made from before Confederation until today.

My ReflectionI enjoyed creating the maps because I learned how Canada was formed and how it evolved into a country. While making the maps, I

learned how to apply colouring, using text and accurately label-ling them.Overall, it was a valuable

experience in learning how to create historical maps.

Visit to the TIFF Bell Lightbox Theatre

The Intermediate students had an awesome time at the TIFF Bell Lightbox theatre on Friday April 22, 2016. We travelled by subway downtown and even had lunch at an underground food court. We then headed to the theatre to watch a French movie called “Belle et Sébastien II.” The movie was about a young boy named, Sébas-tien and his dog, Belle. The two friends set out on a journey to find Sébastien’s adoptive mom, who went missing after her plane crashed on her way home after the war. Throughout their adventure they came across many obstacles such as, a plane crash, encoun-tering a bear and fighting forest fires. Through all these problems, Sébastien finds his birth father, his adoptive mother and his family

is finally reunited. The trip was a very memorable experi-ence and we would love to go watch part III…if there ever is one.
