Volume 59 No. 3 November-December 2018 Our 93rd Year
Dear Brothers in Christ,
With the holidays rapidly approaching, we will be spending time
with friends and love ones. We will be having dinners and exchanging
presents but let us not forget those less fortunate than us. The Joseph
Barry Council (JBC) will be collecting new unwrapped toys for Toys for
Tots. We are also collecting new or slightly used clothes for adult
men. Both boxes are located in the lounge downstairs. I’m hoping
everyone can find it in their hearts to donate at least one toy and a
jacket. Don’t forget on November 11, 2018, we will be observing
Veteran’s Day. Joseph Barry Council and the nation would like to thank
all the brave men and women that served or serving in our armed
services.
On November 3, JBC will be having the Country Western night run
by Brian Lee and his committee who always do an excellent job. On
November 17 we will be delivering Thanksgiving food baskets to the
less fortunate of Hicksville. This is an opportunity for the whole family
to participate, especially youths that need community service
hours. Joseph Barry will be hosting the Nassau Chapter meeting on
November 16. All 3rd degree members are welcome to attend.
December will also be a busy month for our council. On December
7 JBC will be having the 300 Club Party for all members who have a
number. On December 8 is the Children Christmas Party for member’s
children and grandchildren. Santa has promised to stop by so make
sure you have been good. On December 9 the 4th degree will have
their Christmas Party. On the 18th Joseph Barry will have its Christmas
Party which is free for brothers and $20 for guest. There will be a grab
bag for all women who bring a grab bag gift. Ray Romano and his
committee will be in charge of the Christmas Party. On December 15
JBC will be delivering Christmas food baskets. On December 31 Brian
Dunker and his committee will be running the New Year’s Eve
Party. Please reserve your space now as the event is almost sold out.
On January 11 John O’Donnell and his committee will be having the
Winter Picnic. On January 18 there will be a March on Washington
and a Nassau Chapter meeting at Joseph Barry Council. On the 25th we
will be hosting a 3rd degree.
The Joseph Barry Council would like to thank all the Lifetime
members who donated to the council. It is greatly appreciated. I
would like to thank Tom Zegers and his committee for an excellent
testimonial for PKG Walter Duffy. I want to thank Walter for a great
year of service. I’d like to recognize Gerry Mulholland, Brian
Dunker, and Derek Stadler for being Knights of the Month for July,
August, and September. I would like to thank Joan Knight for
donating an electric wheelchair to the council.
On September 25 I had the privilege of installing the
Columbiettes’ new officers. Congratulations to Barbara Maier to
being elected Nassau Chapter President.
By the time this issue comes out JBC will have done the Blood
Drive headed by Brian Lee. We also had the Soccer Challenge run
by Jim Kershow and the Hicksville Soccer Club. Joe DelPriore had a

The Value of Life Insurance for Children
As a father, you worry about your children and do
everything you can to protect them. You try to raise
them right and make sure they are prepared to become
adults. But have you ever thought about buying life
insurance for your child?
When you insure a child, you are protecting his or
her future. Did you know that one out of every six adults
get rated, postponed, or denied for insurance
coverage? If you purchase a policy for your child from
the Knights of Columbus with a guaranteed purchase
option, it guarantees that more insurance can be
purchased for that child at certain set dates, without
proving insurability.
Unfortunately, as fathers we don’t have a crystal
ball, and we don’t know what the future may have in
store for our children’s health. But did you know that
right now you can purchase a child’s policy, in many
cases, for less than $10 a month?
I’ve heard it said that people don’t want to “profit”
from the death of a child, so they won’t purchase
coverage on their children. God forbid something
tragic happens, those funds can come in handy at a
time when finances will be the last thing on a parent’s
mind. I have never heard a story about someone who
regretted buying coverage on their child.
Contact me today to discuss the many policy
options for child plans, including 10- and 20-Pay life
insurance.

We kicked off our New Member
Recruitment Campaign in a big way. During the
Columbus Day weekend of October 6th
and 7th
,
several members of the JBC spoke at the St.
Ignatius Parish at all 7 masses said that
weekend. This included a member who spoke
in Spanish at the late Sunday Spanish mass. The
congregation at all of the masses applauded the
speakers and several members of the
congregation spoke with us after the conclusion
of the masses. We prepared handouts that were distributed to the congregation after all of the
masses that included my contact information
(see below) and details of all of the work we do
as Knights and the events we are involved with
all during the year.
In the spirit of the campaign, we are having a
Monday Night Football gathering at JBC on
October 29th, that includes an open bar and
free food for all new members and any current
member who brings a new member to the
gathering. A flyer was prepared in both English
and Spanish that contained information for the
gathering which we distributed after each of the
masses. Several current members will be coming
to the gathering to speak with any perspective
member. At the time this article was written, the
event had not taken place, but we were
encouraged by the reception we had at St.
Ignatius that we’ll be able to call many new
members our Brothers in Christ very soon!
If you know of anyone who would like to
become a member, please have them contact:
Joe Del Priore at (917) 816-3645 (via phone or
text) or via email: [email protected]
