Have you thought about joining us and going to the Regionals this year? If so, I would suggest you make your hotel reservaons now, so you do not get leſt out. Springfield and Bran- son will be here before you know it! At our February meeng we only had 3 suggested names for the new club mascot. You will have one more chance to submit a name at the March meeng. Who knows the best suggeson just may win a "prize". Also Dave MIller showed a short TV clip at the last meeng. He will repeat that video in March so all can get a good idea of the tour we will be taking on March 24th to the Railroad Muse- um. Your board has been busy working on some great tours for this year - like a tour to the Fossil beds in late July. Also, some new and old favorites for eat outs. So, we want your sug- gesons to throw into the mix. Don't forget to read your newsleer and get your name on the sign up sheets, and be sure to save those dates. March Tech Talk

This Tech Talk is on an item everyone has a problem with sooner or later. In

some cases, I think it was sooner and probably still is a problem. Mostly it con-

cerns the 28-29 style, but 30-31 styles seem to have their problems, too.

That good old stop lite switch is the topic this time around. We will examine

both styles and figure out what can be done to cure the problem.

We will also discuss our upcoming distributor seminar. I will have some cores at the meeting, if you

need one. If you have one for rebuilding, bring it to this meeting. We will figure out what parts you

need to order so, when we do the seminar, you will have what you need.

If you have questions, call me at 402-659-1815. Don

J-B Railroad Museum - March 24

Join us to tour J-B (aka. Judy and Bill Wimmer) Railroad Museum at Beaver Lake south of Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Bill was in railroading from 1957 till July 2008. As Vice President–Engineering for the Union Pacific Railroad, he was awarded the 2007 Railroader of the Year award. During his tenure he collect-ed lots of artifacts that were to be headed to the dump and had them stored in different storage facili-ties. Since retiring, he has worked on sorting and restoring these railroad artifacts that he and Judy display in their own museum just off of Rock Bluff Road at Beaver Lake. Please be sure to sign up at the next general meeting or call Dave & Esther Miller 402-593-2009 to get signed up for the tour. We will meet at the Hy-Vee store parking lot at 16418 Westside Dr., Plattsmouth (just west of HWY 75) at 12:30PM. We will depart the lot at 1:00 to drive down to the museum for our 1:30 tour. After the tour we will return to Plattsmouth for an early dinner at Babe's Hometown BBQ. If weather permits, please feel free to drive your Ford Model A.

Parts, Please! Ken Grigsby has requested your unused car parts to use in making trophies for the Skills, Grilles, and Grills show. He still really needs them. Please bring them to the next general meeting or to Ken’s home. Give Ken a call if you are not sure what you have is suitable (402-296-3690).

Past Events

Several Meadowlarks had a deLIGHTful day viewing LIGHT at KANEKO on January 17. We wandered around looking at the amazing light fea-tures and blown glass sculptures. We didn´t get to see one of the main attractions because the mirrored floor had been broken by someone dropping something on it. The group photo below was taken in front of a large sculp-ture by Jun Kaneko. Those attending were Bob & Mary McKinney with their granddaughter Ellie, Don & Janet Graves, El & Dot Gertner, Don & Karen Noodell, Ed & Sue Dellinger, Dave & Esther Miller, and Lee Hendrix. Thanks to Kevin Hendrix for taking our photo. We had planned to eat at the Old Mattress Factory but between the state wrestling tournament and Omaha Beer Week Beer Bus Tour, we had a hard time finding a place for 12. We ended up at King Kong.

Steve Zikmund showed off his new “painting” of his 1928 Tudor at the February meeting. This was actually done by tak-ing many photographs in a dark room and putting them together—a technique called 'Painting with Light Photog-raphy.' It was done by Bernie Wolff of Bernard Wolff Photography.

playing vehicles. On Saturday those displaying cars will be invited to a Banquet (2 people per displayed vehicle). https://sacmuseum.org/event/nebraska-highway-66-concourse-classic/ Some have asked me why this show is called the Nebraska ‘Highway 66’ Concourse Classic. Hey, that’s an easy answer: Because the SAC Aerospace Museum is on Nebraska State Highway 66 (nothing to do with U.S. Route 66). From Dave Miller

A Few Brave Members took a February Model A Trip John Leddy sent in a story about a few of our mem-bers driving their Model As to the Ground Hog Day Parade in Unadilla, Nebraska on Saturday, February 3. John, along with Steve Zikmund, Greg Bowden, and Bob Benton drove the approximately 50 miles to Unadilla, which is southeast of Lincoln. It sounds like the temperatures were in the upper 40s. The photo at the right is of Greg driving Steve’s Model A in the parade.

Henry Ford was Irish in descent, and after having made all of his mil-

lions in this country wanted to go back to his fatherland in County

Cork, Ireland. His reputation for wealth had long preceded his arrival.

So, when he finally stepped off the plane, there were a group of local

town officials waiting seeking contributions for the construction of one

of their local hospitals. And Ford, who was quite accustomed to being

touched in that fashion, he pulled out his checkbook and made a check

out for $5,000. The next day in bold print the local paper said Ford con-

tributes $50,000 for the construction of the local hospital.

The local officials came running back and said oh, Mr. Ford, we're terribly sorry. It was not our fault. It

must have been a typographical error, and we'll be happy to see to it that a retraction is printed in to-

morrow's paper. He said, wait a minute, I think I've got a better idea. He says, you give me one wish and

I'll give you the balance of $45,000.

So they said anything you want. He said, I want, when that hospital is finally built, to have an inscription

over the entranceway with a quote taken from a source of my choice. They said it's done. So he gave the

check for $45,000, the hospital was built. It is there today. It has a plaque over the entranceway with a

quote taken from the book of Matthew. It says, "I came unto you as a stranger and you took me in."

History about the Omaha Ford Assembly Plant The first Model A produced at the Omaha Ford Assembly Plant rolled off the assembly line at 5pm on May 10, 1928—90 years ago. On that day 10 to 12 cars per day were rolling off the line, but the goal was to meet a daily production of 60 cars by the middle of the next week. According to the Omaha Bee-News on May 13, 1928, the plant was running with 435 men, working 8 hour days, 5 days a week (that was news in those days). The maximum capacity of the Ford plant was 220 cars per day, with a maximum working force of about 700 (from The 1928-1931 Ford Assembly Plant and Their Production by Steve Charles Plucker).

Welcome to R & R Powder Coating—a new adver-tiser for our newsletter. Powder coating is proba-bly the best and most durable finish you can have applied to metal or aluminum surfaces. It comes in many colors, even Model A wheel colors. You can check the chart at R & R for the color you have in mind. Remember, powder coating is not just for automotive parts; it can be applied to lawn furni-ture and anything else you want a durable worry-free finish on. There is one requirement you must keep in mind. The pieces to be powder coated must be totally cleaned of all paint, corrosion, and rust. This is so your results come back to you with a hard durable finish that you will be pleased with. Check with R&R for your powder coating needs—you will be glad you did.

You don’t have to be a MARC member to enter the 3 Raffles for this meet. Janet Graves, our treasurer, has tickets to sell. See her at the meeting or contact her at [email protected]/402-453-7166.

We do have some members having health issues this month, but they really are not ready to share the de-tails. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

New “Delineator Posts” The club has purchased 24 of these posts to use in place of the Model A Wheel Rope Stands that we have used for decades. These are much lighter weight and will be much more friendly to our backs. The membership approved this purchase at our October general meeting. We will also be purchasing 6 sets of weights to hold down our canopies. A bigger project coming up is replacing our storage trailer with a storage container. We need to wait until warmer weather to accomplish this.
