In The Door Frame
Salt and Light!
Salt is spread on the drive outside my
office window. Science nerds know
that a chemical reaction between salt
and the cold ice of a midwinter’s day
sets a remarkable change in motion.
Ice melts!
Jesus probably didn’t worry much
about ice. But he knew other uses for
salt. It had flavor for one. In the con-
text of the religion of his time he not-
ed that the disciples needed a little
“saltiness” in order to stand out, and
offer something special to those seek-
ing to connect with God.
But Jesus presses on. The disciples
must also be light. In the darkness of
Roman rule and the legalism of reli-
gious authorities, he charged the dis-
ciples to bring light dark places.
So we are charged in our day!
Mavis Staples sings her version in the
midst of the civil rights struggle. I
often check myself using this song.
How am I doing shining the light of
Jesus within?
Matthew 5:13-20 13“You are the salt of the earth; but
if salt has lost its taste, how can its
saltiness be restored? It is no longer
good for anything, but is thrown out
and trampled under foot. 14“You are
the light of the world. A city built on
a hill cannot be hid. 15No one after
lighting a lamp puts it under the
bushel basket, but on the
lampstand, and it gives light to all in
the house. 16In the same way, let
your light shine before others, so
that they may see your good works
and give glory to your Father in
heaven.

Ministerial News
Our Pastoral Nominating Committee (PNC) has started the
process of searching for our next permanent minister. One of the first
things they must do is gather information from YOU, the congregation.
They have taken a list of Ministerial Leadership Competencies & broken them down into a quick &
easy online survey (Paper copies are available). In other words, what do you want our new minister
to be like; strengths, priorities, their focus for our church.
The PNC wants your input!
The survey may be taken on your cell phone, tablet or computer and will be open
until 2/26. It might take you 10 mins. to complete.
You may find the link on our church website @ www.eatonfpc.org under “Pastoral Survey” right there on the homepage.
(Paper copies of the survey are available)
Please help the PNC by taking the
