“Painting of the Month‖

Members attending RCAS meetings are invited to enter their artwork in the “Painting of the Month” contest. Bring your latest artwork to the general meeting in September. Look for the sign-up sheets on the tables on the left wall of the meeting room. Be sure to register on the numbered list provided, giving your name and the name of your painting. Voting will take place during our break, and winners will be announced at the end of the meeting. We‟re looking forward to seeing your latest artwork!

Rules for the Painting of the Month Contest are as follows: The 1st place winner may not enter the following

month. Second, 3rd and Honorable Mention winners may enter again the following month.

Gift certificates will be awarded from our sponsors as available. All paintings compete against all others in one category.

You may enter up to two paintings per month. Paintings may be unframed for the contest, but 1st place winner can be displayed at Artist‟s Showplace only if framed.

No nudes or sexually suggestive artwork may be exhibited in the public facilities of the Richardson Library.

The winners of Painting of the Month for May 2011 will be published in the October newsletter.

"Things that matter"......

Reviewing my everyday life using this crite-ria I have found many things don't pass muster, BUT when it comes to art - thinking about it, viewing it, planning my next "masterpiece,” being inspired by other art-ists, etc., I realize how much it does matter to me and to the world as a whole.

Where would we be as a civilization and as a community without it? Quoting an artist whom I was privileged to hear during my recent trip to Friday Harbor, San Juan Is-land, "A vibrant, alive art society is a vital ingredient in a community's' strengths and appeal." Those of us in the Richardson Civic Art Society know this, and the city ac-knowledges our worth through the generous grant given to us every year!

If you know or meet a member of the Richardson Arts Commission, Abby Kratz, Neil Orleans, David McNair (one of our Paint-out hosts this spring), Beth Kolman, Betty Peck (RCAS liaison) Richard Luttrell, and Barbara McNutt (we all know Barbara, our past president) be sure and tell them a huge

Thank You for their time and support

which they give voluntarily to the arts.
