INNOVATIONS IN PEDAGOGY @ CHARUSAT

Dr. Kartik S. Pandya is working as an

associate professor in M & V Patel Dept.

of Electrical Engineering at CSPIT,

CHARUSAT. He has developed and

distributed MATLAB code of the

application entitled, “Optimal Reactive

Page 12: Volume 4 Issue IV October 2013

CHARUSAT COMET | October 2013 | Vol.: 04, Issue: 04 Page 11

Power Dispatch Using Particle Swarm Optimization” at MATLAB File Exchange.

MATLAB is software which is used worldwide for engineering applications. His

uploaded file is among the top 4% most popular downloaded files. Such type of

innovations in pedagogy will be very much useful to the students, faculties and

researchers who want to enhance their knowledge in the field of power system

optimization. Also, as MATLAB is the most popular software that is used in academia

and industry, the uploaded files do the marketing of CHARUSAT at the world level. This

step will be very much useful for achieving World Class University (WCU) status of

CHARUSAT by the end of 2015.

Dr. Pandya is one of very few Indian faculty members whose developed codes have been

accepted by MATLAB authority, as far as power system subject is concerned.

PAPER PRESENTED MR. SHOBHIT K. PATEL, ASST. PROFESSOR, DEPARTMENT OF

ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATIONS ENGINEERING

Mr. Shobhit k. Patel, Asst. Professor, Department of Electronics & Communications

Engineering, CSPIT presented paper which had published in “Journal of Electromagnetic

Waves and Application”.

The subject of Paper was “Investigation on radiation improvement of corner truncated

triband square microstrip patch antenna with double negative material”. Publisher of

Save Energy Save World Development of ‘Mobile Windmill System’ at CHARUSAT

In this era of ever increasing fuel prices,

relentlessly, the need for energy conservation

and cheaper energy options grow desperately.

Amongst all the efforts to fulfill these needs, four

students of CHARUSAT University, Changa,

Gujarat have originated a concept which involves

using a ‘Mobile Windmill System’ on automobiles

like cars, trains , ships and related auto motives.

Vishal Ferwani, Aditya Dwivedi, Abhi Mehta and Abhishek Purohit –Four Engineering

Students of V.T Patel Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, CSPIT

presented this idea first during the Concept fest event of the Tech Fest-Cognizance in

September 2012. They successfully devised a unique working model which was placed

on the bonnet of a car and which would utilize its motion to convert the wind energy

into the electrical energy which can be stored in an alternate battery. They

demonstrated & obtained a maximum output voltage of 6V from 300 rpm, 12V DC

generator @ 50-60 km/h on the roads of Vadodara city, Gujarat. According to Prof.

Page 13: Volume 4 Issue IV October 2013

CHARUSAT COMET | October 2013 | Vol.: 04, Issue: 04 Page 12

Trushit Upadhyaya, Faculty, E & C. Department, CSPIT a good quality DC generator

along with a combination of more of such windmills, all together in the system panel

would generate more electricity. In future this idea may realize an automotive which

would charge its’ power for itself.

This idea brings along with it a massive potential of utilizing renewable energy in one of

the areas which exploits non-renewable energy the most – transport. It could prove a

healthy contribution towards energy conservation. For this purpose the students’ will

take advantage of Govt. of Gujarat’s student schemes.
