PICTURE DAY!

Rabbi White’s Grade 5-6 Boys prepared and

presented their own PowerPoint presentations

on various guidelines pertaining to the holiday

of Sukkot ! Rabbi White’s Grade 5-6 Boys

review for an upcoming test by playing "Are

you smarter than a 5th grader?"

Celebrating Rosh Chodesh at Menorah Academy is always an exciting event and

students had a “ball” at our Cheshvan Rosh Chodesh assembly, even if it was

frozen! Keeping with this year’s theme, “Oh, the Thanks you can Thank!” we

showed our gratitude, our thankfulness, for water with an activity, “Brr brrr is it

cold in here?” Equipped with water and a basin, students had to defrost a frozen

t-shirt that was rolled into a ball. The unravelling process and technique differed

between the girls and boys, and if one paid attention in science, they knew the

quickest way to melt the ice and win the challenge.

Menorah’s Pre-Kindergarten class celebrated

yom adom (the colour red) to celebrate the

beginning of their aleph bais lessons. The

children were instructed to wear the colour red

and they enjoyed the morning making paper

plate watermelons and cookies!

Our Grade 3/4

Girls learned all

about Rochel

Imeinu and made

these stunning

projects!

Kindergarten took a tour around the neighbourhood to learn

about the Fall season. During their walk, they also learned about

safety in crossing the street, safety walking on the sidewalk, and

always being alert.

The Shabbos Project was in full swing across the globe last

Thursday as various cities hosted the Great Big Challah Bake!

The event in Edmonton began at Beth Israel Synagogue with

Rabanit Batya Friedman sharing words of inspiration

followed by Mrs. Miriam White giving a live demonstration

on making challah. After the punching and kneading of the

dough everyone watched clips about the Shabbos Project and

then Mrs. Esther Segal informed the crowd about the

importance of this unique, international event. Thank you

Mrs. Devorah Kaplan, Beth Israel, Edmonton Kollel, special

guests, volunteers and everyone who helped make this

evening a huge success!

Menorah isn’t Menorah until Mrs. Kacew and Magic

Dan visit! Thank you for your time, talent and all around

awesomeness!

Kindergarten enjoyed their Parsha lesson,

Parshas Noach and used their new handy

skills to build a class taivah. They also built

small taivah 's and painted rainbows as part

of the lesson.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2015 MENORAH HIGHLIGHTS VOLUME 4 ISSUE 3 PAGE 3

This month has been full of creative learning in the 5/6

girls Parsha class. The girls created beautiful and

original posters depicting the six days of creation,

Shabbat, and Gan Eden. The following week, Parshas

Noach was delicious as we created Noach's Teivah and

the tower of Bavel as part

of Zimra to review the

Parsha. Our family heard

from us with 'postcards'

from Parshas Lech Lecha

and we had our chance to

give our side of the

argument in a debate class

r evi ew o f Par shas

Vayeirah.

In the Grade 3/4 class we

are certainly enjoying

learning and reviewing

the adventures that take

place in the book of

Joshua, sefer Yehoshua. As a review of perek bais the

girls acted out the exciting story of the spies meeting up

with Rachav and escaping unharmed through a rope

from the window. (Featuring the not yet world famous

Rachav's song - "I want to be just like you"). To

review Perek gimmel, the girls created amazing

diorama's using little people, plasticine, etc... To

demonstrate what it may have looked like when the

miracle of the splitting of the Jordan river occurred.

Mrs. White’s Grade 1 students created a stunning shimmery replica of

Kever Rachel in honour of her yartzeit which took place on yud aleph

Cheshvan.

Kinders are hitting the nail

on the head at the new

carpentry centre.

Pre-K is reminding you that the weather is changing.

Bundle up, its getting chilly out there!

On the upcoming marriage

of your son,

Menachem to Nechama Meyer.

In English Language Arts 8, we have just

finished reading and discussing an article

related to thinking positively. After reading

the article, the girls were asked to create

posters promoting or providing information

on positive thinking. We had a great time and

ended up with these lovely posters as our

finished products!

MAZEL TOV to all of our Sukkot Mitzvah

Chart winners!

Menorah Academy’s Grade 6

student, Eliyahu Stead was

recently awarded the Kesser

Shem Tov Award for the

excellence in Middos and

Derech Eretz presented by the

Academy. We are very proud of

you Landon! Mazel Tov!

Grade 8 boys have continued their study in perspective. Last year they tackled a

cityscape, this year they are nearing completion on a two point perspective

study of trains. All of the grade 8 boys art students are to be congratulated on

their fine work.

The puzzle is pieced

together! Mrs. Lee's

grade 1 to 10 art students

have all contributed to

the world of critters

presented on foam board

with wax crayons and

tempera paint. The 72

pieces together give a

unique map of our world.

Our Toddler Nursery student, Lucas

says this is his favorite learning

center. Getting dirty and being clean

at the same time is awesome!
