Victory! The year is 1513. Our brave King, Henry VIII is returning home in triumph from his glorious victory over the French in the Battle of the Spurs, an aptly named battle that sent the French cavalry fleeing in fear. A tremendous victory, indeed.

Meanwhile, back in England, who should think this the perfect time to take advantage of Henry's absence and invade, but the treacherous Scots to the North! Obviously, our northern neighbors had no idea that our Queen, Catherine of Aragon is no blushing bride, but a strong and fearless leader, for as soon as our Queen heard news of the Scottish invasion, she immediately suited up in armour and rode north to speak to her troops before what would be called the Battle of Flodden Field. It was a rousing speech, which led to a glorious victory! King James IV of Scotland himself was killed at this battle, and our Queen stood over his broken body, removed his bloodied robe and cavalierly had it sent to her beloved Henry in France to inspire him to victory. It must have worked, for now King Henry VIII and Queen Catherine of Aragon are both returning from war and have decided to meet here, in Mount Hope, for the victory celebration! And a glorious celebration it shall be! Victory!!!

Please refer to the Daily Writ gate handout for weekend's show schedule. Show titles marked with red asterisk (*) contain adult content. Discretion is advised when planning daily itinerary.

Storyline ShowsKING'S COURTJoin us for some merriment at the Endgame Stage as our Lady Mayor and her husband, Sir Reginald, welcome our King and Queen to the Shire and officially begin this victory celebration!

HUMAN CHESSThere's nothing like a rousing game of Human Chess to get you in the spirit for a victory cel-ebration! Some of England's finest will face off at this grand event.

TOURNAMENT JOUSTThe Knights of the Realm meet on the Joust List to determine who amongst them is the best. Witness their skills being put to the test as they try to outdo each other and lay claim to the title of Best Knight in the Realm!

ULTIMATE JOUSTWhat was to be a joust of sport and tourney to entertain our King and Queen this day, has taken a most dark and mortal turn. For when a Knights' honour is questioned, the answer may only be given with blood. Therefore let this joust be...TO THE DEATH!

FINALE IN SONGIt just wouldn't be a festival day without music and merriment, so join us at The Globe Stage where King, Queen, court, and peasants alike will send you off with good cheer!

Stage Shows* THESEUS & THE EXTREMELY AGGRES-SIVE MINOTAUR • THE PENNYBRIGG PLAYERS BLOODY BEST SHOWBlood, death, and mayhem abound as a hero with a sword meets a King-sized monster. Greek mythology at its hilarious worst! Don't worry, you won't learn a thing!

THE FARCE OF THE DREADFUL DEAD MANA fat friar, a cowardly knight, and a lazy knave contend with a deeply creepy legend. You just might laugh yourself into the grave.

WHOSE JEST IS IT ANYWAY?This improvisation extravaganza completely made up with suggestions from the audience will make you laugh, smile, giggle, and guffaw!

BOARSHEAD BRAWLThe groundbreaking celebration for the new Boarshead Inn is rapidly approaching and Sir George Talbot has spared no expense to en-sure its rousing success! There will be music, dancing, a feast, and of course lots of wine! Add in a jealous court rival, a few soldiers, a thieving beauty and a crazed Scot...the party is sure to be a "blowout!"

THE QUEEN'S VARIETY SHOWCome help our beloved Queen escape her troubles, relax, and let her hair down. In this musical comedy show, Sir Reginald has but one mission: to show the Queen a good time!

* THE PEEBLES' COURTWhat thou art about to bear witness to is real. Those that shall be upon this stage are not actors. They be litigants in a true case. Here-upon there shall be settled a dispute as to the whereabouts of the Boarshead Inn. This is Abby Peebles' Court.

* A FEAST OF FOOLS (A ROLE GAMING PLAY)Here there be dragons... or possibly dun-geons? Join Xavier the Jester and Detert the Butcher as they roll up an improv fantasy adventure! It's bawdy fun for the whole party!

JOYFUL NOYSEQueen Catherine of Aragon has decreed that there shall be madrigal-singing upon the Shire of Mount Hope, and she has chosen the best singers in her own court to perform. Turns out those singers consist of three court nobles and... the rat catcher?!? Come laugh with these four characters as they share their love for some of the prettiest (and silliest) music written in the Renaissance.

* DOUBLE ENSEMBLEJoin our Shire folk as they take your sug-gestions and use them to create an entire, full length, longish epic play that might be hilarious and possibly inappropriate.

* RAKISH ROGUESThese four pirates are the only (sober) survi-vors of a shipwreck somewhere near Mount Hope. Since His Majesty was feeling generous, King Henry has promised to provide these salty dogs with a brand new ship... but only if they entertain his subject on this festival day! Join the Rakish Rogues at the pub as they trade stories and songs about wine, women and... well, really, what else is there?

* THE SIRENSMysterious, tantalizing, and possibly… dan-gerous? These four beauteous wenches who sing like angels may claim to be ordinary girls, but are they really the Sirens we've heard of in ancient legends who devour the souls of men!?! You decide.

Children's ShowsCHILDREN VS. PEASANTSThe Lady Mayor needs your children! Her husband has made the laughable claim that he can train the peasants to be warriors for the game of Human Chess. Not to be out-done, the Lady Mayor has claimed that she could train children better than he could train adults. Bring your children over to the Chess Arena to help prove her right and have some fun for the kids in the process.

PUNCH AND JUDYCome one, come all to our puppet shows all about the wild adventures of Mr. Punch and his wife Judy! Enjoy the interactive experience and get lost in the comedy of slapstick. Noth-ing says fun like puppets hitting each other!

TRUNK SHOWSWhat is a trunk show anyway? A trunk show is a story told by actors who have a trunk full of props and costumes that allow them AND YOU to become the characters needed to tell the sto-ry. It's great fun for the whole family, and who knows? Maybe you'll wind up playing a princess, a knight, a faerie, a pirate, or even a dragon!

King's Royal Performers at time of print. Performer run dates vary. Visit PaRenFaire.com for a full list of performers and run dates.

The King's Royal Performers ARCHERY THROUGH THE AGESBringing the history of archery and its world-wide application to life. Demonstrating not only how English longbows and wood arrows are made, but how and why they were such effective tools and weapons of war.

BARBY HOLDERTraditional and original songs and instrumental music—vocals, guitar, and hammered dulcimer.

BURLY MINSTRELSFrom wild instrumental improvisation on medieval themes to sweet, traditional ballads, their music leaves your toes tapping and makes you want to sing along.

CAST IN BRONZEThe only musical act of its kind in the world: the carillon is played by a silent and masked "spirit of the bells" that appears only to breathe life into the instrument for the performance.

CHASTE TREASUREThis trio of upper class ladies brings a unique, soulful sound to sassy songs and modern paro-dies alike. Truly a "treasure" but questionably "chaste," their audience interaction is comical while their tight harmonies mean business.

CIRCUS STELLAA one-ring family circus featuring a husband and wife and their performing puppies. All of the dogs featured in the show are mixed breed res-cue dogs from various humane societies - raising awareness of the plight of shelter dogs and encouraging people to adopt rescue animals.

DON JUAN & MIGUELDon Juan, the gallant and romantic Prince of Spain and his ever-faithful manservant Miguel bring a rare blend of improvisation and variety skills together to create one of the most popu-lar shows ever to grace a festival stage.

HARPER LEEHis Majesty’s Harper, Mary-Kate Lee, can be found throughout the Shire playing Celtic, tradi-tional, and original music for all who pass her way.

JOFFREY THE GIANTJoffrey uses stilt walking for his theatrical com-edy music and balloon twisting.

LONDON BROILThe perfect juggling show blend; the kind of show that is visually fascinating with some real good stupid giggling—proving that you can be family-friendly and hip at the same time.

* LOONEY LUCY & PLOPPYLooney Lucy & Ploppy have three, count 'em three, X-rated (that's a ten for the little nippers) comedy shows. These shows are steeped in double entendre and linger with odors of innuendo.

MIRANDOLA FANFAREEnjoy the sounds of an all brass ensemble during the Gate Opening and throughout the grounds during the day!

THE MUD SQUADThree shows, three completely different stories, and three idiots in the mud! “Splash Zone” seats optional at the raucous shows that prove children should stay in school!

NEIDFYRE FEATURING LONGSTOCKINGNeidfyre serenades on a fiddle, signing with a genuine passion, Scottish, Irish, English, and Rus-sian folk songs. She infuses vivacity and sheer joy into her love of music and storytelling.

NOBLE CAUSE PRODUCTIONSSpecializing in jousting, stage combat instruc-tion, fight choreography, and horse stunts, Noble Cause is continually striving to reach new heights with breathtaking new shows!

PASTIMESA Medieval/Renaissance music consort, explor-ing and performing music and dance from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance on authentic period instruments and in historical costume.

RICK THE HYPNOTISTThe Amazing Art of Hypnosis will have you spell-bound! Be amazed as you watch Rick Stratton use phenomenal mind-bending techniques, to-tally harmless of course, on volunteers for the audience. Hilarious antics and side-splitting comedy are the result during every show.

RENAISSANCE VAUDEVILLEComedy! Juggling! AND a trained pig! What more could you want in a variety show? Rick and Jan will keep you laughing as they juggle flaming shiny stuff while balancing on unusual objects. Then Snorkel The Pig steals the show with his precision stunt pig tricks! This is a must-see for the whole family.

ROYAL FALCONERPennsylvania Renaissance Faire’s Royal Falconer, Ash Cary, will be on hand at the Aviary next to Endgame Stage displaying his majestic birds of prey including falcons, an Eagle Owl, and more.

RUKUSThis band is full of energy and will knock your socks off with hilarious banter, amazing music, endless talent, and high spirits. This mixed mash-up has gathered together at the Renaissance Faire to raise a "Rukus"!

SAXON MOONThese high-energy instrumentalists are the rockers of the Renaissance, honoring the traditions of the old world with music that resounds in our new one.

SIR CHARLES BRANDON, MASTER OF THE HORSE • Brandon is the complete courtier: athletic, fun-loving, fashion-con-scious, arrogant and unprincipled.

SIR ISAAC FAWLKESNot your usual idea of a magician. He com-bines outrageous comedy and unusual magic to create a hysterical show that leaves audi-ences in tears of laughter.

TARTANICImagine one dancer, six drums, six drones, 18 notes, fast fingers, high comedy, flying bagpipes, death-defying stunts, and scorch-ing hot music played at over 120 beats per minute with driving speed and high-volume—all brought to you by five men without pants.

TILDA MORNINGThis violinist can be found throughout the Shire using her musical powers during Peas-ant Dance or separately serenading you on the streets!

WASHING WELL WENCHESGood, clean fun... Wet, dirty women. The Washing Well Wenches are an all-female comedy troupe that performs at various ven-ues across the nation and beyond. Live, Love, Laugh, Launder... Repeat.

WHIPS AND KNIVESAdam Crack and Dakota throw knives and crack whips within inches of each other in this exciting, high-energy show. Adam has set 16 Guiness World Records with whips and has performed around the world. Dakota has been performing since childhood with her father in his show, Don Juan and Miguel.

GREG RAMSEY HENRY VIII, BY THE GRACE OF GOD, KING OF ENGLAND, FRANCE AND LORD OF IRELANDBoisterous and energetic, lover of sport, mirth, and merriment; our handsome king is an athlete, a war-rior, a musician, and poet. Henry is the most charismatic man to ever take the throne, but don’t let his love of festivities deceive you. Our king is a military lionheart with a surpris-ingly keen political mind. Henry was the first King of England to use the title “His Majesty.” If the lion knew his own strength, hard were it for any man to rule him.

KRISTEN SPANGENBERG QUEEN CATHERINE OF ARAGONKnown for her graciousness, her com-passion, and her charm; Catherine is the epitome of nobility. Her courage and piousness earned for her the love and devotion of the English people. This daughter of Spain and paragon of virtue is our Queen.

SHEILA BARTON LADY DOLORES PENBURTHY LADY MAYOR OF MT. HOPE SHIREPerennially cheerful and socialite supreme. Essentially runs the town.

DAVE GOLD SIR REGINALD SMYTHE PENBURTHY IX - HERALDRetired and addled knight, married to the Lady Mayor. Assists his wife (not always well) in her mayoral duties, and serves as the town herald upon necessity.

TODD SMITH LT. GENERAL SIR GEORGE TALBOT, 4TH EARL OF SHREWSBURG, 4TH EARL OF WATERFORD, LORD STEW-ARD AND KNIGHT OF THE GARTER - HERO OF THE BATTLE OF THE SPURSIn case he hasn't told you, this auspicious, swaggering Lord's latest victory was in France.

JACOB MUNDELL LORD HIGH ADMIRAL SIR THOMAS HOWARD - HERO OF THE BATTLE OF FLODDEN FIELDLord Howard is certainly no diplomat or courtier—this angry warlike Lord seeks to restore his family name and his rightful title as "Duke of Norfolk" through true patriotic service.

ANDREW TROTTER HENRY "HAL" BOURCHIER - EARL OF ESSEXA member of Henry VIII's privy council and also Mary Say's loving husband (or so she makes sure to tell everybody), Hal's passion lies in speaking, which his wife mostly does for him. Catch him alone, however, and he will wax poetic about the Pythagorean theorem, the price of wheat in Northumberland, and why little green men were responsible for the Second Muscovite-Lithua-nian War of 1500.

Bacchanalian CastMELISSA PIPHER LADY MARY SAY BOURCHIER COUNTESS OF ESSEXStunningly confident and surprisingly loud, Mary Say Bourchier enjoys the simpler things in life, especially bear-baiting and hen-pecking. All she wants is to live in the wide-open country where she can be as loud as possible and there are no neighbors to complain.

TAYLOR GRACE SUMNER LADY ELIZABETH STAFFORD COUNTESS OF SURREYA fifteen-year-old girl and good friend of Catherine of Aragon, Eliza-beth Stafford lived at home until seven years ago and is suffering from a massive case of sheltered child syndrome. She is currently fed up with her husband's (Thomas Howard) constant swordplay and is now trying to play the field… so she has a crush on all the men in court.

DOUG WALLACE SIR ROBERT ASKE OF AUGHTON NEAR SELBYThis brave Knight fought most fiercely for King and country at the Battle of the Spurs. A carousing lover of wine, gambling and all things cre-ative, this warrior earned his victory holiday and he’s going to enjoy it.

EZEKIEL JACKSON CAPTAIN BERTRAM POWELLCaptain of the Kings Yeoman Guard. Bertram has seen it all. Were it not for his undying loyalty, he could tell stories that could start wars!

JAKE DAILEY YEOMAN RANDOLF WARDGuardian to the King and Queen. Ran-dolf is green, eager to please and de-lightfully unburdened with intelligence. Randolf may not have a rapier wit, but with a broadsword or halberd in his hand it’s quite clear why he’s trusted to protect our beloved King and Queen.

JEFF WOLFTHAL FINLAY MUIR - SCOTTISH WARRIORFor most people, having ones' hands shackled on a festival day would be downright depressing. Then again, most people aren’t Finlay Muir! Since being forced to yield by his new “frenemy” Thomas Howard at Flod-den Field, Finlay has decided that as long as his hands are bound, he might as well smile and have a good time. Of course, if anyone were to remove his shackles, he’d be forced to kill ev-ery last one of us! Perhaps we should just leave them on.

MATTHEW SMITH FANRICH BARTOLD VON HOLTZ LANDSKNECHT (GERMAN MERCENARY)This overly hospitable and amicable soldier is a veteran of over a hundred frays. Just ask him, he’ll tell you all about them (every detail) and he won’t let his lack of English skills stop him.

BRANDON DENNISON XAVIER LAROACHE - FRENCH FOOLSir George Talbot himself discovered this vagabond cowering behind a tent at the Battle of the Spurs. The manner in which he begged for his life was so hilarious that Sir George saw it fit to present him to the Queen as her new jester.

CAITLIN CAMPBELL SIR JOHN (JOAN) MAYWEATHER - SOLDIERIt’s an old story. Boy meets girl. Girl loves boy so much that she cannot bear to see him go off to war. Girl then dress-es up like a man so she can be a soldier with him. Girl becomes a better soldier than boy, so she advances in rank and respect, leaving boy behind. As it turns out, girl loves being a soldier more than girl loves boy. Poor boy.

NATHANIEL BARBER ALFIE DUNSTON - TRAVELING REGIONAL EXECUTIONERAs a traveling executioner, Alfie is not always greeted with a high amount of enthusiasm, except of course, in Mt. Hope where execu-tions are so rare that no one fears old Alfie. His greatest fear (besides being deathly afraid of sharp metal objects) is having to actually per-form his duty in Mt. Hope and lose the hospitality there, he has grown so accustomed to.

EMILY LYNN MISTRESS AGNES CHADWICK, SHERRIF OF MT. HOPE - LAW ENFORCEMENTOur sheriff knows right well that with-out the dark there can be no light. Pragmatic through and through, Ag-nes keeps the shire’s undesirables in check. She knows how they think. Af-ter all, she and notorious thief, Penny Posch used to be partners in crime!

TAYLOR SORREL MARTIN STRANGEWAYS - RAT CATCHERThe Shire rat catcher was minding his own business when the Queen "invited" him to come sing with Joy-ful Noyse. But now that he has an opportunity to poke fun at the no-bility with the barrier of "The Queen invited me here," he's going to take every advantage he's got.

ALI FOLEY AMETHYST CUTHBERT - GOLDSMITHAs the daughter of one of England’s finest goldsmiths, to say she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth just doesn’t seem right… yet you get the picture. She’s part goldsmith, part jeweler, and since she can afford it, part banker! Always in good spir-its, this playful mistress wishes only to beautify the shire with her wares and her love of merriment.

ARIEL DE MENT PENNY POSCH - THIEFThis beautiful and dangerous thief is so good at her trade that unless her nemesis, Sherrif Agnes Chadwick is around, she will often announce herself and her intentions. Other-wise it’s just too easy!

JILLIAN BARRON ABISHAG PEEBLES - ALE WENCHHard-working and ambitious, Abby has the gift of gab and that "can do" attitude that a good wench needs to get ahead in life. Abby is certain that one day, she, and all who work hard like her, will get to enjoy the fruits of labour. As it turns out, today be just one of those days, for at six of the clock this very e'en, the owner of The Boarshead Inn will be handing over the keys! But wait… isn't The Boars-head supposed to be right… ne'er mind, I must have made a wrong turn.

JENNIFER BRUNKER URSEL PFEIFFERR - GERMAN FUR TRADERAs a fur trader, Ursel spends most of her time off in the wilderness. Her so-cial skills, as a matter of course, direct-ly reflect this. Be not mislead though! Underneath her harsh choice of words and odd choices of conversation top-ics lies a heart full of sweetness who just wants to be your friend.

TIM HARTMAN DETERT FLEISCHKOPF - GERMAN PORK BUTCHERThankfully Detert’s enthusiasm for just about anything is positively infectious, otherwise his poor un-derstanding of social cues and his blunt, unintentionally crass nature might be downright annoying. But we love Detert, really we do.

ROSSER LAMASON TEMPLETON GIBB - PENNYBRYGG PLAYERNervous and eager to please, this young thespian is anxious to earn a reputation as one of England’s respected actors. Tell him you’ve heard of him and watch him ex-plode with excitement.

SABRINA BLACKBURN DELILAH LOVE - PENNYBRYGG PLAYERAt first glance Delilah is sweet, kind, and lovable. Look a little deeper and you’ll find her thrill seeking need for excitement, which can often get her into trouble.

MATT EBLING THURSTON WRIGHT - PENNYBRYGG PLAYERThe pride and prestige of the Penny-brygg Players. How the Pennybrygg Players were able to afford an actor of Thurston’s caliber is difficult to understand. His fame and public ad-oration are simply unprecedented.

CATE KESSLER MEREDITH LOXLEY - PENNYBRYGG PLAYERElegant, mysterious, captivating, alluring, mesmerizing, enchanting, graceful, powerful, and brilliant…these are the words she would pre-fer you use to describe her.

ANGIE FENNELL PETUNIA PENNYBRYGG - PENNYBRYGG PLAYERAfter the mysterious disappearance of her parents, it was positively as-tounding how quickly and efficiently she took over the family business…perhaps… too astounding?… Nah!!! Well, just in case, we should all treat her with a good deal of respect.

PATRICK CROCE HARCOURT FENTON - PENNYBRYGG PLAYERThis con man turned actor found the perfect long con when he met Petunia Pennybrygg. But is he ac-tually developing an affection for Petunia and an appreciation for the art of acting? Or is this all a part of his scam? You decide.

DYLAN COLLINS LORD RAULPH PLUMBCRACKERS - PENNYBRYGG PLAYERWhen casting a play, sometimes one must settle for those who are willing. And so we have Lord Raulph Plumbcrackers. A strange character indeed, but is he a Lord, an escaped bedlamite, or five ducks in a man suit? We just can’t tell.

NOAH BERRY CAPTAIN TOBIAS BRIDGE - PIRATECaptain of the Black Barnacle. We are not sure where he came from or how he acquired his vessel but from an outside perspective he appears to be a flamboyant, drunken fool. He always does seem to "Bridge" the way at the last moment to fix each of his problems with great flair and performance. He is fond of obnox-ious singing and bright colors, lover/disappointer of women, and when coinage and drink is to be found, he stumbles in that direction.

TOBY O’BRIEN FIRST MATE LES MOODY - PIRATELes (don't call him Leslie) Moody has been under the thumb of Captain Bridge for far too long, in his opinion, and longs for the day that he can cap-tain his own ship. Unfortunately, he is deathly afraid of water, so he is stuck with the one captain in the world who actually appreciates his usefulness on a ship. He spends his free time knit-ting, appreciating fine art, and plot-ting the demise of his fearless leader.

ANDY DENNISON GAVIN “THE CANNON” BLOOD - PIRATEGavin is the Gunner and "muscle" of the Black Barnacle. He is, well…not the brightest gem in the trea-sure chest. He is sweet, however, and cares deeply for Les. He will often "hulk" out if he ever loses his temper but usually he is sweet, shy, and a lover of small, cuddly animals. He has a pet rat that has been dead for several weeks. No one is brave enough to break the news to him.

EVIN HOFFMAN HENRICK ST. IVES - PIRATENavigator/cabin boy/anything-the-captain-needs man of the Black Bar-nacle. Originally from the icy Viking waters, he was picked up by Bridge as a teenager. He is bright and full of youthful energy. He is an over-achiever and way too enthusiastic. He is deeply hurt if he does some-thing that is not perfect.

VANESSA STERLING ASTRID NOORDEN - SIREN OF THE NORTH SEASAstrid is as cool and calm as the glacial waters from which she hails. Many have tried to thaw her icy exterior, but only the most worthy (and hairy) Viking warrior can melt this Siren's heart. Beards are her weakness. Little known fact: Astrid can speak fluent whale, dolphin, and a hint of seal.

KIMBERLY FIFE NADIA SOUTHWALL - SIREN OF THE SOUTH SEASFierce, fabulous, and a little vain, Nadia is the "diva" of the Sirens. Her hot-blooded passions are boil-ing just beneath the surface; even though her temper can flare in an in-stant, it can dissipate just as quickly. Her tastes run towards the rich and powerful men (she and Odysseus were very close, regardless of what the stories might have you believe).

JULIA HOFFMANN TALIA ESTION - SIREN OF THE EASTERN SEASTalia is the Siren who most often has her head in the clouds. She thinks her reflection is actually her long lost twin, Tulia. Some might think Talia is a few guppies short of an aquarium, but she still manages to lure naïve and unsuspecting young men to her side!

ALLISON PETRILLO MORGANE WESTERLY - SIREN OF THE WESTERN SEASWild and unpredictable, Morgane craves adventure and excitement at every turn. The few sailors who have dared to venture into the unexplored Western waters have caused her to de-velop a particular taste for both pyrates and ale. Unfortunately, the more she drinks, the more sober she becomes!
