“...Allah intends only to re-move from you the impurity (of sin), O’ People of the House

(Family of Rasulullah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)), and to purify you with (a thor-ough) purifica on.”

[Surah Al-Ahzab Ayah 33 ][33:33]

It’s reported that the Messen-

ger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said,

“Love Allah for what He nour-

love me due to the love of

Allah, and love the people of

.(ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)

If the Beloved Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) has taught us anything, then among the many, he taught us an important lesson. One that the Qur’an amplified numerously: It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather a profoundly faithful few, who are keen to uphold the truth and sacrifice for it.

To be the example of a candle that burns itself illuminating the way for others, to give the ultimate sacrifice to enlighten the path of the truth, as the truth and only the truth shall set you free.

In a very famous Hadith, the Beloved Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) says: “ Hussain is from me and I am from Hussain”.

The meaning entailed by this Hadith is not that I am Hussain’s grandfather, as this is an obvious fact. The meaning sheds light that Hussain is like me, Hussain’s line is similar to my line, Hussain’s message is my message, Hussain is from me and I am from Hussain.

But the whole battle is for man's keeping hold of Haqq and Freedom. And that can only be done by the highest examples of man's conduct - spiritual striving and suf-fering enduring firmness of faith and pur-

pose, patience and courage where ordinary mortals would give in or be cowed down, the sacrifice of ordinary motives to su-preme truth in scorn of consequence.

The martyr bears witness, and the witness redeems what would otherwise be called failure.

It so happened with Al-Imam Al-Hussain, the Master of the youth of Ahlul Jannah. For all were touched by the story of his martyrdom, and it gave the deathblow to the tyrant politics of Yazid bin Mu’awiyah and all the oppression it stood for.

Imam Al-Hussain being alive, more alive than ever, not only externally but living profoundly deep in our hearts, in our souls, and in our minds, has still the power to ignite the light of truth in the heart of all free, to send a message to the courageous not to bow down to evil, and to teach peo-ple not to surrender to tyranny and false-hood.

Sahabah of the Month:

‘Umar al-Farooq

`

Umar ibn al-Khattab was referred to by the Prophet as “Al-Farooq” meaning ‘one who discriminates (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)between right from wrong.’ He was referred to by Ali as “Shaykh al-Islam,” and he was the first to be called by the general masses with the title of “Ameer al-Mu’minin” (Commander of the Faithful).

`Umar had the special distinction of being a person whom the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) prayed for that he become Muslim. Rasulullah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) realized that `Umar was a very strong and brave man, necessary for the Islamic movement to thrive. It is narrated in Hadith that the Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said: “O Allah! Strengthen Islam with `Umar ibn al-Khattab.” Indeed, the Mus-lims were greatly strengthened by `Umar’s conver-sion to Islam. Before his conversion, they were hid-ing in worry, but with `Umar’s conversion, the Mus-lims were able to declare Islam openly. Where once the Muslims had been banned from the Ka’aba, now the Muslims prayed therein.

Abdullah ibn Masood said of `Umar’s conversion: “`Umar’s conversion to Islam was a conquest, His Migration was a victory, his period of rule was a blessing; I have seen when we were unable to pray at ‘the house’ (Kaba) until `Umar converted; when he converted to Islam he fought them [the antagonistic idolaters] until they left us alone and we prayed

(inside the Ka’aba).”

The Rasulullah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said: “I have two ministers from the inhabitants of the heaven and two ministers from the inhabitants of the earth. The former are Jibril and Mika’il, and the latter are Abu Bakr and ‘Umar.”

HabibAllah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said of Abu Bakr and ‘Umar: “These two are [my] hearing and eyesight.”

The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) instructed the Companions: “Follow those that come after me: Abu Bakr and ‘Umar.”

The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) also said: “Allah has put the truth upon Umar’s tongue and in his heart.” and “If there were to be a prophet after me it would be ‘Umar ibn al-Khatab.”

Abu Bakr said of `Umar: “There is not on the face of the earth a man more beloved to me than `Umar.”

Bibi ‘Ayesha bint Abu Bakr said: “He was, by Allah, skillful in managing affairs, absolutely unique.”

‘Umar also had the unique distinction of having his views confirmed by the revelation in the Holy Quran. It is narrated that Umar used to approach Rasulullah and give his opinion on matters, and then the (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)Quranic ayat would descend upon the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) confirming the opinion of ‘Umar. And in other in-stances, ‘Umar asked the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) to ask Allah for Quranic verses on certain issues which Umar and the people wanted clarification on; it would not then be long before Allah revealed verses to the Prophet .clarifying the matter brought up by Umar (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)

Sayings of Ameer ‘Umar:

“The biggest gift after Iman (Faith) is your wife.”

“Why have you made slaves of those whose mothers had given birth to them free?”

“The strength in action is to never put of what you can do today, for tomorrow”

All of Islam shall Weep:

Shahadat of ‘Umar

‘Umar al-Khatab is the second of the Khulafa Ra-shideen. He was known for his intense level of God-consciousness and his strictness in matters pertaining to holding onto the legacy of Rasulullah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص), Islam.

Although ‘Umar was strict in these matters, he had a soft heart as he would be light-hearted with his fami-ly. In fact, it was from ‘Umar that we first learned that faith is incomplete without total love and devo-tion to Rasulullah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص).

Hadrat ‘Umar’s role in Islam was a vital component in establishing an Ummah or community of Muslims. Only after ‘Umar al-Farooq accepted Islam were the Muslims able to pray and promote Islam on a public scale. His involvement in Islam remained even after the passing of Rasulullah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) as he became the Caliph after Hadrat Abu Bakr As-Siddiq.

Hadrat ‘Umar used to be extremely careful when he was the Caliph and would spend the nights walking the streets to see if anyone was hungry or needed help. He couldn’t sleep with the possibility that some-one of the community may fall asleep hungry under his command. This scrupulous undertaking remained with Hadrat ‘Umar for most of his life, including even in his passing breaths.

The day Hadrat ‘Umar became shaheed, he was lead-ing prayer. As soon as he started, Abu Lu’lu’a came towards Hadrat ‘Umar and stabbed him with a two-pointed dagger. Hadrat ‘Umar then said that he had been slain, and Abu Lu’lu’a tried to escape, stabbing the Muslims he passed– stabbing 13 men of whom 9 or 7 died. When Abu Lu’lu’a was captured, he took

his own life.

The sahaba quickly attended to Hadrat ‘Umar’s wounds and tried to give him some juice; however, as he drank it came out of his belly, and they knew ‘Umar’s time was coming near.

People came to visit Hadrat ‘Umar and speak to him. It was as if a disaster had afflicted the people that day. And even as Hadrat ‘Umar was slowly losing strength, he was still reminding the people to follow the commandments of Islam, even correcting his nephew by asking him to pull his garments up as they were hanging low.

Hadrat ‘Umar had one final thing on his mind. He wanted to be buried near his beloved (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص), and so he sent a messenger to ask Bibi Aisha for permission to be buried next to Rasulullah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص). Bibi Aisha had wept as she said, “I had wanted to have that place for myself, but today I will certainly put him first.”

Hadrat ‘Umar was overjoyed at the news saying, “Nothing was more important to me then that.”

The companions then asked Hadrat ‘Umar to give his final injuctions, and he gave a list of candidates for the next Caliph including Hadrat Ali and Hadrat Usthman among others as well as giving advices in governing. The Commander of the Faithful then passed away, and was buried next to his beloved (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص).

Hadrat Ali said of ‘Umar, “There is not a single man with whose works I should prefer to meet God then with yours. By God, I had already believed that God would set you with your two companions, for how often did I hear the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) say, ‘I went with Abu Bakr and ‘Umar,’ and ‘I entered with Abu Bakr and ‘Umar,’ and ‘I went out with Abu Bakr and ‘Umar,’ so that I hoped, or suspected, that God would set you with them”.’

Rasulullah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) was reported to have said, “Jibrael (A.S.) has told me that upon the death of ‘Umar all Islam shall weep.

Hadrat Ali’s love for Abu Bakr and ‘Umar

Suwaid ibn Ghafla reported that once he passed by a group who were talking about Hazrat Abu Bakr and Hazrat Umar in derogatory terms. Then he visited Hazrat Ali and told him ‘O Ameer Al Mumineen! I passed by a group of your companions while they were referring to Abu Bakr and Umar in derogatory terms. If it were not that they thought that you secret-ly felt as they openly said, they would not have dared to say it.’ Imam Ali replied, ‘I seek refuge in Allah! I seek ref-uge in Allah from secretly feeling anything towards the two of them other than what the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) entrusted to me. May Allah curse anyone who holds inside himself anything but goodness and gratitude towards the both of them. (They were like) two brothers to Allah’s Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص), his two companions, his two assistants, may Allah’s Mercy be on both of them. Then Imam Ali got up with tears in his eyes, holding on to my hand until he entered the masjid. Next he ascended the mimbar and after having made a brief but eloquent speech, he added,‘What is wrong with those who make allegations about the two masters of Quraish, the two fathers of the Muslims, allegations which I would never say or even want to hear others say; and for which I may be punished? By He who split the seed and created the soul, only a pious be-liever loves them, and only a wretched sinner hates them. Those two who accompanied Allah’s Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص), commanding all that is good and prohibiting all that is evil; who became angry with the wrongdoers and punished them based on truth and honestly alone. In their rulings, they did not overstep the opinions of Allah’s Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص). In fact, their opinions always coincided with those of Allah’s Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) and the believers were pleased with both of them throughout their respective caliphates. The Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) appointed Abu Bakr to lead the believers in their prayers for the last nine days of the Prophet’s life and he died without re-calling him. The believers, subsequently, made him

responsible for their affairs, and gave him their Zakaah. They willingly pledged allegiance to him and I am the first person from Banu Abd al Muttalib to confirm his leadership. He disliked leadership and wished that one of us would take his place. By Allah, he was the best of those who remained after the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص); the eldest, the kindest, and truly the most compassionate and pious. He was like Angel Mikael in his benevolence and Prophet Ibrahim in his willingness to forgive and his dignified bearing. He took the path of the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) and passed away on that path (May Allah have mercy on him). After Abu Bakr, ‘Umar took command, and I was among those pleased with his appointment. He ruled according to the policy of Allah’s Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) and his companion Abu Bakr, following their foot-steps the way a young camel follows its mother. I swear by Allah, he was kind and gentle with the weak, a champion of the cause of the oppressed and without any blame concerning Allah’s Religion. Al-lah manifested examples of truth through him and made the truth a part of him to such a degree that we used to think that an angel was speaking with his tongue. Allah made his conversion a strengthening factor for Islam, and placed in the hearts of the hypo-crites a fear of him and in the hearts of the believers love for him. Allah’s Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) compared him to angel Jibreel in his harshness towards the enemies of Islam. So who among you can be compared to the two of them?! May Allah’s Mercy be on them, and may Al-lah provide us with the ability to continue in their paths. Let whoever loves me, love them, for whoever does not love them has angered me, and I will have nothing to do with him. If I hear anymore derogatory talk about the two of them, I will punish the offend-ers severely. Verily, the best of this nation after its Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) is Abu Bakr and ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with them. Then Allah knows best who the best is. I am saying this asking Allah’s Forgiveness for both you and myself.’”

The Sanctity of the day of Ashura

Allah, the Most Praised and the Most High, has stated in His Majestic Qur’an:

“The number of the months in the sight of Allah is twelve months. [They were already inscribed] in the Book of Allah on the day when He cre-ated the heavens and the earth; four of them are sacred” (9:36).

Muharram is one of these sacred months. This means that good deeds done in the month of Muharram are multiplied, and Allah will look upon us with Mercy and Forgiveness.

Rasulullah (صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم) is reported to have said with an authentic chain from Shaikh Abu Nasr Muhammad ibn al-Banna, “If someone observes a day of fasting during Muharram, for every such day he will be credited with thirty days.”

In addition, Hadrat Ali (رضي هللا عنه) is reported to have said, “In Allah’s Sacred Month (al-Muharram), Allah has relented toward certain people, and He will also relent toward others.”

Even with all of these blessings within the month it-self, Muharram is also blessed with the day of Ashura. Rasulullah ( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم), transmitted by Maimun ibn Mihran on the authority of Ibn Abbas is recorded to have said the following ,( رضي هللا عنه )things about the day of Ashura.

Also, Rasulullah (صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم) is reported to have said the following about the day of Ashura:

If someone fasts on the day of Ashura, they will be granted the spiritual reward of ten thousand angels, ten thousand martyers, and ten thousand hajjis and visitants.

If someone strokes the heard of an orphan with his hand, for every hair on the orphan’s head Al-lah will promote him by one degree in the Garden of Paradise.

If someone provides a meal to break a Muslim’s fast, it will be just as if the entire Ummah (Community) of Muhammad ( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم ) had broken fast as his guests, and had filled their stomachs to capacity.

If someone fasts, Allah will record in his favor the worshipful service (‘ibada) of sixty years de-voted to fasting by day and keeping vigil by night.

If someone performs the major ritual ablution (ightasal), they will never experience any illness apart from the sickness of death.

If someone visits a sick person, it is just as they had visited all the children of Adam.

If someone gives a thirsty person a drink of wa-ter, it is just as if he had never disobeyed Allah for a single instant.

If someone treats his family (ahli-hi) with special generosity, Allah will treat that person with spe-cial generosity throughout the rest of the year.

These were reported on the authority of Ibn Abbas and other great companions.

This is an auspicious day, and we need to take ad-vantage of it!

Rasulullah (صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم) wanted us to fast on the day of Ashura, among other things, as an honor to Prophet Musa (Alayhis Salaam). The Jews were fast-ing on that day as well; however, Rasulullah ( صلي هللا said that we have a greater right over (عليه واله وسلمour Prophet, and commanded the Muslims to fast two days: the 10th and 9th of Muharram.

May Allah help us reap the blessings of Ashura! In-sha’Allah Ameen.

“Fear Allah”

Al-Bazzaz narrates through Abdullah Ibn Zubair that the Holy Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) mentioned: “The simile of Ahl al Bayt is like that of the Ark of Noah (peace be upon him). One who boards it, is saved and those who leave it are drowned

Muslim, Tirmidhi and Nasai have recorded from Zaid bin Arqam (ra) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his noble family) said: “Fear Allah! Fear Allah! Fear Allah! Beware that you do not distance yourself from my Ahl al Bayt.”

Hadrat Zain-ul-Abideen Ali bin Hussain’s (R) reply to Yazid.

Yazid asked one of his employed preachersto go on the 'Mimber' (pulpit) of the Mosque and abused Imam Ali (R) and his family. When the preacher finished his lecture, Imam Zain ul Abideen (R) turned to him and said, "Be ashamed of yourself, you evil speaker. With your words you have displeased Allah so as to please people". Then he asked Yazid to let him talk to the people. Yazid refused to do so. The people of Syria, however, forced Yazid to allow the Imam to go on the Mimber.

Once on the Mimber, Imam Zain al-Abideen (R) first praised Allah (SWT) and His Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص). After that he gave along and very powerful speech letting the Syrians know the great position of Hadrat Imam Hussain (R) to Allah (SWT), and how evil Yazid and his family were. Part of the speech is summarized below:

"O listeners Allah has given us (Ahl al Bayt) six things which no one else has. He has given us special Wisdom, Patience, Digni-ty, Power of speech, Courage and Respect. He gave us special benefit of belonging to the family of his Prophet. To us belong Hamza and Jafar. To us belong Asadullah (The lion of Allah, Imam Ali (R)). To us belong the leader of the youths of paradise (Imam Hassan (R) and Imam Hussain (R)).

"Those who know me, know me. Those who do not, then know that I am the son of Mecca and Mina. I am the son of Zamzam and Safa. I am the son of he who gave Zakat to the poor. I am the son of the best of those who have ever put on Ihram and per-formed ceremonies of Hajj. I am the son of he who was taken on the night journey from house of Allah to the Mosque of Aqsa and then to Miraj. I am the son of he who was taken around by Gibrael to the Lote-tree of the boundary (Sidratul Muntaha).

"I am the son of Muhammad Mustafa (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص). I am the son of Ali Al-Murtaza (R) who fought the polytheists in the battle till they submitted to Islam and fought in the presence of the Prophet until his sword was broken and to whom Zulfikar was given. I am the son of he who had the honor to migrate twice in Islam. I am the son of Fatima the best women of the world...".

The effect of the speech was so powerful that everybody in the Mosque began to weep and to blame Yazid. Yazid was afraid that if the Imam continued his speech, there would be a revolution and revolt. At the same time Yazid could not stop the Imam and get him down from the Mimber. He therefore ordered a "Muazzin" to give Azan, knowing that this would automatically cut the Imam's speech. But he underestimated Imam Zain ul Abideen's bravery and intelligence. The Imam stopped his speech but did not get down from the Mimber. When the Muazzin said " Allahu Akbar" the Imam testified Allah's greatness. When the Muazzin said, "Ash hadu anna Muhammaddan Rasulullah", the Imam stopped the Muazzin from going any further. He then turned to

Yazid and asked him. "Tell me o Yazid, was Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) your grandfather or mine? If you say he was your grandfather it will be an open lie and if you say he was my grandfather then why have you killed his son and imprisoned his family? Why have you killed my father and brought his women and children to this city as prisoners?"

Yazid had no reply to give.

The effect of this was to turn Syrians against Yazid. Everyone of them now found out about Yazid's crimes that he had committed

against the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) and his family. They began to blame him and ask for the release of Imam Zain al-Abidin (R) and the

womenfolk of the house of the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص). Yazid was now afraid that if he did not act fast his rulership would be lost. He therefore freed Imam Zain al-Abidin (R) and let him return to Medina with full honour and respect.

Tibrani mentions the following tradition in his book Al-Awsat. Imam Hasan Ibn Ali (peace be upon him) reports from the Mes-

senger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) that he said: “Strive hard to achieve love and affection of us; the Ahl al Bayt, and considers it as obligatory for yourselves, always. The truth is that whoever meets Allah while he loves us will enter Paradise through my intercession. By the One who controls my life! No deed can benefit a servant if he does not recognize our rights.

The Status of the Ahl al Bayt

The Ahl al Bayt literally translates into “People of the House.” This refers to the family of Rasulullah ( his close ones, his wives, and ,( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم his descendants. Out of the Ahl al Bayt, Allah chose five amongst them who Allah purified and exalted above all people. These five are: Rasulullah ( صلي هللا-Hadrat Ali, Bibi Fatimah, Imam al ,( عليه واله وسلم Hassan, and Imam al-Hussain.

The family of Rasulullah ( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم ) is a treasure chest of love, blessing, and light. They are role models and demand our utmost love and respect. Allah says in the Qur’an about the Ahl al Bayt:

Oh Ahl al Bayt, Allah wishes only to remove pollu-tion from you and to purify you through a thorough purification (Al-Azhaab-33:33).

This ayat was revealed in the house Bibi Salma, a wife of Rasulullah ( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم ). When this ayat was revealed, Rasulullah ( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم ) took his cloak and wrapped Hadrat Ali, Bibi Fatimah, Imam Hassan, and Imam Hussain in it, meaning that these five were of an exalted status blessed from Al-lah.

The family of Rasulullah ( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم ) has a very important place in Islam. Near the end of Rasulullah’s ( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم ) worldly life, he gave a khutba to all of the Muslims present. It was the first Hajj, but the last for Rasulullah ( صلي هللا عليه therefore, almost the entire Ummah was ;( واله وسلم

present. It was at this time, on the day of Arafah, that Rasulullah ( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم ) said, “Oh people! I am leaving among you two things, one is of them greater than the other: the book of Allah and my Ahl al Bayt. If you hold onto them, you will not be mis-guided after me.”

After the day of Arafat, the Ummah went back to their homes; however, as Rasulullah ( صلي هللا عليه واله was heading back to Medinah Munawwara ( وسلم Shareef with his blessed Sahaba, he told them to stop half way in route. He then addressed his companions, “I am leaving amongst you two heavy weights. The first is the greater weight, the rope to Heaven, the book of Allah. The other thing is the Ahl al Bayt. And those two weights will never be separated.” Both ahadith are Saheeh and Muttawatr.

Rasulullah ( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم ) emphasized his family twice! The Qur’an and the Ahl al Bayt are in-separable. They are the key to each other. If you want to understand the Qur’an you go to the Ahl al Bayt, and if you want to understand the Ahl al Bayt you go to the Qur’an. Without each other, you will never be able to understand either.

We are required to love them as a part of our creed. Imam Shafi’ confirms this with his poetry he wrote about them. In addition, when we pray our salaat, we send peace and blessings on Rasulullah ( صلي هللا عليه and his family (Aal) before finishing. This ( واله وسلم is how Durood-e-Ibraheemi was placed in our Salaat. Such is their status that our prayer to Allah is nulli-fied or compromised without the sending of peace and blessings upon the Ahl al Bayt!

Allah states that, “And all hold onto the rope of Allah and do not disperse” (3:183). Among the different interpretations and tasafeerat of this ayah, Imam Shafi’ interpreted this to mean that the rope of Allah is the Ahl al Bayt, and by loving, respecting, and fol-lowing them, we will be lead on the straight path to Allah in Jannah Insha’Allah Ameen.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE

Imam Hussain (رضي هللا عنه) is special because he is part of the Ahl al Bayt (People of the House), and is the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص). It is said that when Imam Hussain (رضي هللا عنه)was born to Bibi Fatimah and Ali Ibn Abi Talib, the Prophet Muhammad gave the Azaan in his right ear and the Iqaamah(صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم) in his left ear and made dua for him. Rasulullah (صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم)loved Imam Hussain so much that he said, “Hussain is from me, and I am from Hussain. Allah befriends those who befriends Hussain, and He is the enemy of those who bear enmity to him.” Imam Hussain’s (رضي هللا عنه) shahadah is significant because he sacrificed his life in the way of Allah (SWT), for Islam, and for us. Without Imam Hussain’s revolution, we would be represented by the Umayyad in the minds of mankind till this present time.

Imam Hussain (رضي هللا عنه) is the second son of Ali (رضي هللا عنه) and Bibi Fatima, and is the grandson of Rasulullah ( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم). Imam Hussain, Imam Hassan, Imam Ali , ( (رضي هللا عنهBibi Fatimah, and Rasulullah ( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم) are the Panj Tan Pak or the Ahl al Bayt. This means they are the people of the house. Rasulullah ( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم) blessed and purified them and their descendants. Imam Hussain is the third Holy Imam, and him and Imam Hassan will be the Imams for the youth of paradise. Imam Hussain is also very generous. Shu’aid bin Abdul-Rahman is reported to have said: On the way to Taf (Battle of Karbala’) a mark was seen on the back of Hussain bin Ali (رضي هللا عنه). Imam Zainul-Abideen was asked about it. “It is the trace,” he replied, “of the bag which he puts on his back carrying (رضي هللا عنه)food to the house of the widows, orphans, and the poor.” Imam Hussain (رضي هللا عنه) was also a very brave man. Even though he knew he would be killed, he insisted in standing his ground and starting his uprising till the inevitable end.

We should love Imam Hussain because it is our obligation and duty to love Prophet ( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم)and his family. In Ayat-e-Muwaddah it states, “Say: I do not ask of you any reward, but love for my near relatives (Ahl al Bayt)” (42:23). The Prophet (صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم)then told the companions that it is the Ahlul Bat they should love: Fatimah, Ali, and their two sons, and repeated this three times. Prophet Muham-mad (صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم)told the believers, “Verily, Allah has dedicated my wage (of prophethood) to love for my Ahl al Bayt, and I shall question you about it on the Day of Judgement.” This is so important that Rasulullah (صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم)will ask us if we love his family, so do you really want to disobey and disappoint him? Not only that, but think about how much Imam Hussain did for the Prophet صلي هللا عليه واله) .loved him in return (صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم ) and how much Rasulullahوسلم )

We should also love Imam Hussain (رضي هللا عنه) because he has taught us many things from his life: from telling us the true way in showing love for Allah to having good qualities of a Muslim. Imam Hussain sacri-ficed his life for us, the least we can do is love him and follow his teachings. In my opinion, if you do not love Imam Hussain, how can you be a good Muslim especially after Rasulullah (صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم)told us to love his Ahl al Bayt. You are directly disobeying Rasulullah’s (صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم)orders! After all, Imam Hussain sacrificed his life for us and Islam. If he hadn’t sacrificed his life, we would have become a corrupt Muslim community.

Imam Hussain (رضي هللا عنه) was killed because he fought against Yazid to expose his corruption of Islam.

Shahadat of Imam al-Hussain and his family at the plains of Karbala in ‘Iraq.

Imam Hussain knew he would be killed, so he wanted to be a starting point of the revolution to strengthen justice and oppose tyranny. Imam al-Hussain was killed because he opposed the false claims and corrupt ways of Yazid. This helped the believers see the true colors of Yazid, ending his rule shortly thereafter. Imam Hussain did this to help the Muslim community exit from ignorance and embrace the truth. Imam al-Hussain (رضي هللا عنه) was killed to change the world and re-shape human destiny forever. Undoubtedly, if Imam Hussain did not sacrifice his life, our world would be different. By doing this, the message of Imam Hussain (رضي هللا عنه) was spread through his family members and the truth of Islam could not be stopped. There are many lessons we, as the Ummah of Rasulullah ,( صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم)can learn from Imam Hussain’s Shahadat.

One important lesson I’ve learned is that it is the mor-al responsibility of anyone confronted with evil and injustice is to try and speak up against the oppression they see for the triumph of good. We can also learn that one act of sacrifice can create a huge impact just like how Imam Hussain’s shahadat changed human history forever. There is another lesson to be learned too. If you do something in the way of Allah (SWT), it will create good and tranquility. I also learned that good always prevails over evil. Finally, we can learn that because of Imam Hussain (رضي هللا عنه) we have a better world today. He stood up for the truth with

justice.

As I finish writing this essay, I feel extreme gratitude and love towards Imam Hussain because of the sacri-fice he has made to help us. Can you believe that, even though Imam Hussain(رضي هللا عنه) knew he was going to be killed, he still went ahead and put his full effort into stopping injustice? This is so courageous and brave; it is just unbelievable. I would never be able to do this. Imam Hussain had great Iman, more than any of us, and I will follow the order of Allah (SWT) and the Prophet (صلي هللا عليه واله وسلم)closely. I will love Allah, Imam Hussain (رضي هللا عنه) , the Sahaba, and the Ahl al Bayt forever.
