Former FSBGC Member Attracting Attention From NBA Scouts

Duke freshman Jahlil Okafor is expected to be a first round draft pick in the upcoming NBA draft. The 6’ 11” center is being touted as one of the best amateur basketball players in the world. Graduating from Whitney Young High School in Chicago, Jahlil earned national player of the year awards from McDonalds, USA Today and Parade Magazine. Optimist Day FootballBowl Games and Queens

Ceremony Held On November 1, the Fort Smith Boys & Girls Clubfootball program concluded the season with annual Optimist Day bowl games played at Southside High School. It was the first time in Club history that games were played at Southside. Although FSBGC regular season league games are held at Hunts Park, the Club plays one weekend at Northside High and one weekend at Southside High during the year. “Our players and coaches enjoy playing on the synthetic turf” said FSBGC athletic director Chris Reeder. “It’s a great way to wrap up the season” he added. Last year the bowl games were played at Northside. NHS coach Mike Falleur is a former FSBGC member who grew up playing football at the Club. Several SHS Rebel and NHS Grizzly players participated in Boys & Girls Club football during their elementary school years. Bowl game festivities included the annual Queens Contest ceremony for each of the three leagues. This year the event included 18 contestants. Funds raised by the queen contestants will be used for the 2015 FSBGC football and cheer programs. “We really like having the Queens contest at the high school facility” said coordinator Rhonda Murphy. “There’s more room for everybody involved” she added. During the past 12 years, more than $ 100,000 has been raised from the Queens contest. The fundraiser began at the Club in 1950.\
