POTENTATE’S MESSAGEOn behalf of every Divan member, a heartythank you to Northern Alberta Al ShamalShriners. You made the Valentine’s Auctionand the 60th Annual Shrine Circusresounding successes.

To Auction Chairman Illustrious Sir JackWatt and all your committee volunteers whomade the Valentine Auction the best ever, many thanks.

Our second Temple fundraiser, the Circus, was a tremendous success. To ChairmanNoble Dick Southworth and all the 300plus circus volunteers, thanks for themonths of hard work leading up to andduring the four performances. Youcertainly put the Shrine Circus smiles onthe faces of many, especially the children.

At long last, the residual proceeds ($800,000) from the estate of the late Noble DavidNeill were released by the Bank and transferred to the University of Alberta to reducethe Al Shamal commitment to our Scoliosis Research Chair. On the topic of paying offthe Chair, the Legion of Honour just last week directed $50,000 towards the balance, which at press time stands at $150,000. Let us try to pay off this very worthwhileobligation during the balance of 2008.

The City of Edmonton’s acquisition of nearly one acre for the 142nd street expansion isalmost completed. Nobles Lorne Anfinson and Maurice Shugarman, the Divanappointed negotiating committee, presented the details of an offer from the City andrecommended acceptance. Your Divan unanimously agreed to the offer of $320,000 andthe appropriate agreements were executed. The City confirmed their acceptance andexpects to make payment within a month. A great big thank you goes out from all ofus to Nobles Lorne and Maurice for all their hard work.

April 18th at 7:30 PM we have our Volunteer Appreciation Evening at the Temple. April19th is set aside as the Potentate’s celebration and a formal spring breakout evening. Please note the information page in this Sahida or the material available on the Webpage.

At the celebration we will honour Noble Dale Christensen as the “2008 Al ShamalVolunteer”. The Edmonton Motor Corps will provide the honour guard for thecelebration, Piper Noble Jim Medley will lead in your head table guests and Calgary’sAngela Harris will provide relaxing entertainment

At the Fall Ceremonial we will be honouring Treasurer Emeritus Noble Walter Bouillonand Lady Carol for their many years of contributions to Shrinedom.

Let us extend a warm welcome to the five new Nobles created at our March 3, 2008“Cold Sands” installation. Membership is a priority for Al Shamal and the work ofChairman Neville Bush and Illustrious Sir Doug Sharkey to encourage new members iscertainly appreciated.

Your Divan, acting on the recommendations of the Building Committee, approved somefairly significant improvements to our building. Just to name a few changes, expect newand secure west side doors, extensive electrical upgrades and replacements, and somevolunteer landscaping.

Nobles All—we have a great Temple, a great Divan with exceptional Volunteerism. Letus work hard to make 2008 a fun year of fellowship while “INVESTING IN CHILDREN”

We are looking for volunteers as soonas the snow disappears for a spring clean-up of our outsidegrounds. If we get enough help it should not take too long andwill leave more time for the hot dogs and beverages immediatelyfollowing the work. Please either leave your name at the officeor contact me if you are willing and able and like I said, when thesnow is gone, I will set the date. Thanking you all in advance.

Bothwere very successful and will enable us togo forward with some of theimprovements in the building. Nextevent will the Potentates Celebration inApril. It sure would be nice if we got agreat crowd out for this event. Tickets areavailable at the Shrine Centre or on the Web Site at a cost of$100.00 per couple.

The final figures for the Circus should be available in Aprilonce we get all the invoices for the expenses and we get thetotal of the amount receivable for the advertising in theprograms.

A follow up for the dues still owing will be sent out in April. For those nobles that have not paid their 2008 dues please do soas soon as possible.

The new directory is being worked on and we hope will becompleted before the summer.

TLC UnitIn the early morning hours of 23

February 2008, the TLC suffered thegreatest single loss since the unitwas formed. One of the foundingmembers, Noble Dennis (Denny)Hooper of the TLC Corps was calledhome to the Grand Lodge above.Noble Denny was such a drivingforce for our unit, he will sincerely bemissed. Our sincerest sympathiesgo out to Lady Loretta and theHooper family.

As the nobility know, (mostlythrough the efforts of the TLC to let

you all know) that the TLC Corps is a very tight knit unit. This isdue in large part to the Ladies of the unit, who are an integralpart of the group, and as such we cannot imagine the Corpswithout Lady Loretta’s continued involvement. Although wehave taken a hit to our membership roster, we all know NobleDenny rolls with us forever.

The membership of the TLC Corps would like to commendthe work that Noble Don Millar did for the Hooper family atNoble Denny’s memorial service on 28 February. It was also niceto see Noble Bob and Lady Debbie Russell out from Ontario; wejust wish it was under happier circumstances.

On 23 February, the TLC was the host unit for the first everTGIF event at the Shrine Centre. It also doubled as Noble GregChartrand’s surprise 60th birthday celebration. With well oversixty people in attendance (Shriners, Masons, Non-Masons alike),we had a lot of fun, and are very much looking forward to thenext TGIF event.

Excitement continues to build towards the TLC Corps’ bestseason ever. We have a number of units under construction. Weare finalizing our 2008 move out list, and the first parade is onlyweeks away in Leduc. We would like to extend a very specialgreeting and congratulations to the newest Al-Shamal Unit, theSilver Wings. We wish you all the best. We can not wait to havea few near-misses as we trade paint on the parade route thissummer!

We will see you all on the road!

NNOOEELL GGAAUUTTHHIIEERR ~~ DDRRIILLLL MMAASSTTEERR RREETTIIRREESSNoel Gauthier decided, after leading the Arab Patrol as their Drill Master for several years, it was timeto turn these duties over to one of our younger members, Mahlon Weir. Noel first became Drill Masterfor Arab Patrol in 1996 and excepting for a couple of years, due mainly to health issues, was the leaderof our marching unit up to the 2008 Shrine Circus.

Most of the Shrine know Noel for the professional manner he led the Arab Patrol and other ShrineUnits during the many parades and PNSA’s. Please allow me to expand your knowledge of this veryproud but humble Shriner.

James Noel Gauthier was born and raised in North Rustico, Prince Edward Island. He attended St.Joseph’s College and University in Moncton, New Brunswick. Noel enlisted in the Royal Canadian AirForce in 1951 and after a very successful career in the field of avionics, retired in 1981 as a WarrantOfficer. Noel was not one to sit still and immediately after his career with the Armed Forces, workedfor the Federal Government assisting the Forces for an additional twelve years. Noel finally retired forgood in 1993 enjoying the good life here in Edmonton.

Noel’s military career had many transfers and duties ranging from Germany to the far north under“Operation Morning Light”, in search of the spy satellite Cosmos 954 but the highlight was his transferto Chatham, New Brunswick. It was here where he met Isabel and after a two year courtship, they

married, raised three children, and are now blessed with four grandsons – Kevin, Mark, Tyler and Jason. Noel and Isabel celebrated their50th wedding anniversary last year!

Noel continues to be an avid sports fan. He participated in all sports and of course helped coach his children both in baseball and minor hockey.Noel was instrumental in and assisted with the first organized Potentate’s Golf Tournament in 2002 and still continues to be on the organizingcommittee for this highly successful and popular tournament. If that is not enough, Noel was one of the two originators and still remains thebackbone of the Tuesday “Fun Golf Group” for all Shriners in the Edmonton area.

Noel became a Mason in 1985 and was the Worshipful Master of Avon Glen Lodge in 1992. He became a member of the Al ShamalShriners in 1992 and joined the Arab Patrol. Noel is also a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, the Edmonton Preceptory, the Royal Arch Masons, Zohar Council No. 4 Cryptic Rite Masons, the Northern Alberta Veterans Degree Team and also a member of theStrathcona Branch, Royal Canadian Legion.

One of the most frustrating times in Noel’s life was when he had a stroke in 1997 and completely lost his speech. He attended speech therapyfor five long years and has certainly come a long way.

Noel is proud to be a Mason and a Shriner. His military background allowed him to stand tall and lead the Arab Patrol in a very professionalmanner. This resulted in many awards being won by the Patrol and Noel is very proud of his fellow members of Arab Patrol and for thesupport they gave him as the Drill Master over these many years. Now it is our turn to say thank you to Noel, as well as to his wife, LadyIsabel, for your dedicated work over these years. It is very much appreciated!

Motor TraxWell, it seems that the Sahida Editor needssomething from the, “Signature Unit”.Not being the Editor anymore, I forgot.Anyway this will be brief. We now havenew Bike Transport Bags, and newWindshield Boxes, courtesy of AlbertaGaming, and for the first time I have

broken the Account, nothing left over. But another Casino is inthe works for the 9th and 10th of May. May 17 will also see ourMotor Corps Stag, where we spend a lot of money and have thebest dinner that Tony Cheung can provide, with a lot of lies as tohow, “It Used To Be.” We are about to start on Practices forCompetition in Anaheim in July, wish us luck!

And so another year begins, under the leadership of Motor CorpsMembers Ill. Sir Jim Heron, perpetual Marshall Barrie Miller, ChiefAide Norman Milliken, Casino Chairman and constantphotographer Dale “Flash” Christensen, what can go wrong. Noble Miller is asking that those units who are taking part in themove-outs for the summer notify him as quickly as possible. Withso many venues to satisfy, it is imperative that we fill as many ofthese events as possible - only through these exposures can webe identified among non-shriners. We ask your cooperation.Shown in the photo are two of our honourary members, Ill. Sirs BillBoone and Jack Watt who won the “Best Antique” trophy at theEdson parade last summer, we are still debating if the titlebelonged to the Tuk Tuks or the drivers!

AN EXCERPT FROM GENERAL ORDER NO. 1:FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES

It is natural to associate the fez with Shriners Hospitals for Children. Because of this, meticulous attention must be given to all fundraising activities, including circuses, to make certain that such activities comply with the law of the land and that a contributor is not led to believe that his money will be used for the Hospitals when all or a portion thereof will be used otherwise. The integrity of our charity and of our fraternity must remain above reproach.

Your specific attention is called to the following fraternal and chari-table bylaws:

§335.3 USE OF NAME “SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN.” The use of the name “Shriners Hospitals for Children” or reference to the Hospitals in connection with any fundraising activ-ity by a temple or Noble without the written consent of the Imperial Potentate and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Hospitals is prohibited.§503.10 The use of the name “Shriners Hospitals for Children” or reference to the Hospitals in connection with any commercial product or business enterprise is prohibited unless the written consent of the Board of Directors and Trustees has been first obtained.

Now, therefore, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED:1. Fundraising for Fraternal Purposes:

(a) No Noble (in his capacity as a Shriner), club, unit, organization of Nobles or affiliated or appendant corporations shall engage in any fundraising activity without the express written consent of the potentate of the temple having jurisdiction thereof.

(b) There can be no representation, express or implied, that the pro-ceeds will be for the benefit of Shriners Hospitals for Children.

(c) The temple potentate shall carefully examine all phases of the advertising, promotion and solicitation to determine that it com-plies with §335.3 and §503.10 of the fraternal and charitable bylaws.

(d) The temple potentate must approve the terms and provisions of any contract for a fundraising activity after receiving the advice of the temple attorney, and additionally, as may be required by the temple bylaws.

(e) A copy of the temple potentate’s written consent shall be mailed to the Executive Vice President, Imperial Council. Further, such written material pertaining to the fundraising activity, as request-ed by the Executive Vice President, Imperial Council shall be promptly mailed to him.

2. Fundraising for Charitable Purposes:(a) No Noble (in his capacity as a Shriner), club, unit, organization of

Nobles or affiliated or appendant corporations shall engage in any charitable fundraising activity other than for Shriners Hospitals for Children, and said activity shall not be in the jurisdiction of any other temple. Permission therefore must be first obtained in writing from the temple potentate. The temple potentate must then obtain written permission from the Chairmen of the Boards of Directors and Trustees. This request for written permission shall be sent to the Executive Vice President, Imperial Council, P.O. Box 31356, Tampa, FL 33631-3356.

However, a joint charitable fundraising activity with another §501(c)(3) charity may be authorized provided that a minimum of 50% of the net proceeds are for the benefit of Shriners Hospitals for Children, and the Chairmen of the Boards of Directors and Trustees determine, on a case by case basis, that it is in the best interest of Shriners Hospitals for Children and they grant their written permission for the activity.

(b) 100% of net proceeds (as defined in the Charitable Fund Raising-Approval And Reporting provisions of any existing General Order) from charitable fundraising must be given to Shriners Hospitals for Children except for such portion thereof as may be permitted to be retained for the temple Shrine Hospital Patient

Transportation Fund, pursuant to the Special Purpose Funds pro-visions of any existing General Order. Provided, however, if the Chairmen of the Boards of Directors and Trustees determine for good cause shown, that the law of the land requires that a portion of the net proceeds must be distributed locally, then they may, if they determine it to be in the best interest of Shriners Hospitals for Children, grant their written permission for such distribution.

(c) The temple shall report the result of each charitable fundrais-ing activity within sixty days of the activity, pursuant to the Charitable Fund Raising–Approval and Reporting provision of any existing General Order.

(d) This section shall not apply to activities exempt under §335.4(b) of the bylaws of The Imperial Council.

(e) Each independent corporation or entity that receives the permis-sion of the Chairmen of the Boards of Directors and Trustees to raise money for Shriners Hospitals for Children, and which does not have its financial statements audited pursuant to §334.5 & §337.8 of the bylaws of The Imperial Council, shall have its finan-cial statements audited by a certified, chartered or licensed public accountant and shall submit such audit report to The Imperial Council within 120 days of the activity.

3. Statement of Purpose and Disclosure:(a) Every fundraising activity must contain factual information on its

solicitation material, tickets, programs and documents, including all electronically transmitted materials, regarding the use of the proceeds.Examples:“Proceeds are for the benefit of ( Shriners)

( Shrine Club) activities.”“Proceeds are for the benefit of Shriners Hospitals for

Children.”(b) Every fundraising activity which is not entirely for the benefit

of Shriners Hospitals for Children shall prominently state on the solicitation material, tickets and documents that “payments are not deductible as charitable contributions.”

(c) There must be compliance with the Revenue Act of 1987 provi-sion of any existing general order by U.S. temples.

4. Compliance with Applicable Laws:It is the responsibility of the temple potentate, after receiving the advice of the temple attorney, to determine that there is compliance with all applicable laws in its jurisdiction for the temple’s fundraising activities.

5. Financial Records:(a) The temple shall maintain detailed financial records pertaining to

all fundraising activities involving Nobles, clubs, units, organiza-tions of Nobles or affiliated or appendant corporations. Details of all revenues and expenditures shall be maintained in such finan-cial records.

(b) The temple must retain such detailed financial records for a peri-od of seven (7) years.

(c) There must be compliance with Financial Reporting on Chari-table Funds and Activities provision of any existing general order.

6. Notification to Nobility:A copy of the Fundraising Activities provisions of this General Order shall be printed in the temple publication at least once every calendar year. If there is no temple publication, then a copy shall be mailed to each Noble in the temple not later than the last day in March of each calendar year.

7. Discipline:Any officer, Noble or temple which violates a provision of Fundraising Activities is subject to discipline pursuant to the bylaws of The Imperial Council.

ORIENTAL BANDThe 2008 year has begun somewhat sadly for the

Oriental Band with the Loss of Noble Art Meidingerto the Black Camel and with Noble Gray Waters goodlady Tania passing away in December of last year. Ourmost sincere condolences go out to the families. Wehave as well received news that Noble George Burtonis home battling a serious Cancer and his good ladyPat is extremely ill with Alzheimer’s.

It seems our snowbirds are just now leaving for theirsnowbird locations so our meetings will be somewhat subduedfor a while, but we will continue holding them. As of thebeginning of April we will again begin to practise in earnestunder the directorship of Noble Tony Lee and the Sultanship ofour new leader Ill. Sir Keith MacDonald.

Our main winter function, the Glenrose Children’s Unit 201Christmas party was well attended by the Divan and the Childrenbut for some reason no media. We would especially like toforward our gratitude to the Divan for their attendance andassistance in making this years party a success. Each Christmasthe children and staff at the Glenrose look forward to this functionsponsored annually (for the last forty years) by the Oriental Band.Although not a Shrine sponsored function it is well known that thepeople involved are Shriners and indicative of what these men dofor the children of communities far and wide.

Our numbers still continue to decrease but those of us whostill enjoy learning new instrumental music and to participate inrural parades continue to uphold the traditions of the OLDESTAND MOST RECOGNIZED active unit in Shrinedom and to keepthe Al Shamal Shriners and their philanthropy alive. We will becontinuing our program of putting our move out efforts intoagain traveling to the many smaller farm communities aroundEdmonton. We began this practise several years ago and thenumber of towns asking for our shrine unit’s participation issteadily increasing.

Well that’s it for me, fellow Bandsmen and Al Shamal Noblesand ladies, but I would like to leave you with this following poemcomposed by an unknown Oriental Bands men.

Who are these men in Persian robes with strange sandals upon their feet? With darkened skin and shaggy beardsWho march upon our streetThat play their horns and beat their drumsAnd add to the festive dinWho play for alms for a crippled childThat the Shriners have taken inThey are benevolent men from all walks of lifeWho extend their helping handThey are Masons and Nobles of the Mystic ShrineThe Al Shamal Oriental Band

Nobles if you don’t belong to a unit come out and visit us.You will be pleasantly impressed. Do not listen to those whothoughtlessly indicate that if you don’t join a certain unit youcannot belong. HOG WASH join the unit you want! But join one.Have a little fun, the last generation did.

Provost CorpsProvost Corps have been kept busy as of late with their

duties at “stated business” and plans are underway regardingthe move-outs beginning next month. Provost Corps keep busyaccompanying the Potentate and his Divan to the various eventsthroughout Northern Alberta.

Our Unit was also kept very busy this past weekend at the60th Annual Shrine Circus. It is nice to see members from ourUnit travelling from distances as far as Edson and Lloydminster toassist in the security needs to make this event a success.

I want to thank everyone for their support in making theCash Calendars a resounding success in spite of our late start. However, none of this would have been possible without thehelp of Ken and Pat Williams. They certainly went beyond thecall of duty by keeping track of the calendars, making surepeople not only received the calendars to sell but in turn hadeither the monies or calendars returned in a timely fashion.

I am extremely proud of the Provost Corps and their willingdesire to assist any one at any time for the betterment of theShrine and I am pleased to be the Captain.

Thank You to all for a successfulweekend at the Circus. It was great tosee everyone. Also big vote ofappreciation to the Clan McNaughtonpipers who helped us out! At this time,I would like to propose that we pickone Thursday a month to get together, play a few tunes and then sit back andhave a visit. I know that Lodge nightfor some is on Thursdays, that is why Iwould recommend the 2nd Thursdayof each month for April, May and Juneand then start again in September. Opinions??

In MemoriamCLOWNSA SHRINER CLOWN

The other day a friend of mine I have known forquite a spell Said “May I ask you something? I reallydo mean well, “But this has got me troubled” Andhe asked me, with a frown- “Tell me, just what gooddo you get being a Shriner Clown?”

The question was sincere enough, His attitudesaid so, And then I thought perhaps a lot of peopledo not know - Why it is a grown man makes up Andfalls down on the floor? To make these people laughI, say This part time Shriner Clown!

There are a few retired men, A manger or two,Insurance sales, employment Railroaders and farming too, No matter what theirwalk in life - It may be up or down. These lads bring people laughter At being aShriner Clown.

But sometimes when a Shriner Clown Makes people laugh with glee Themake up that is on his face Makes it hard to see - But emotions gather there, A tearsome times falls down. A child in a wheelchair laughs at This goofie Shriner Clown,A boy or girl with braces on their legs, says “See the Shriner Clowns come.”

A Clown works hard at Clowning So someday this boy or girl might run. Sowhen people ask me, “What I get, The answer that I have found Is the innersatisfaction of being a Shriner Clown.

MEMBERSHIPAs I wear two hats this year, Chairman of the MembershipCommittee and the Chief of the also world famous Al ShamalTLC Corps, I want to be one of the first to welcome our new unit, the Silver Wings into our fold. The Silver Wings are now up andrunning and I am sure will be in a “tight formation” when we startour move-outs this upcoming spring when the fun really begins.

Our first TGIF on the 25th of February, hosted by my unit, theTLC, was a huge success. We had in excess of 60 people inattendance, thanks in part to the surprise 60th birthday party forGreg Chartrand, the newly installed Oriental Guide, and ofcourse, a member of the also world famous Al Shamal TLCCorps. The Motor Corps have stepped forward and volunteeredto host the March TGIF and the Provost Corps are following withthe April TGIF. The April TGIF will commence at 5:30 so takeadvantage of the excellent catering by Tony and his staff andconsider eating at the Shrine rather than at home.

Our May dinner meeting on the 5th of May will be a membership“blitz night”. This will definitely be an informative but moreimportantly a fun night, so please do not hesitate to bringsomeone as a guest. It could be your son, grandson, or memberof your Lodge, regardless of whether they have been raised to aMaster Mason. The Ceremonial this year will take place at theShrine Centre on the 20th of September, and as we all know, themore candidates the better the Ceremonial.

Saturday the 7th of June will be a 60’s Night at the Shrine wherewe can all Rock N’ Roll with music supplied by our own versionof Wolfman Jack! Tickets are only $20.00 each and childrenunder 12 get in free. Tickets are available at the Shrine office orfrom anyone in the Membership Committee.

Again, just a reminder that our Membership meetings arescheduled for the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7:30pm at theShrine. I would like to see a member from each unit out to help.Membership is a constant concern and it is not just thecommittee’s responsibility to bring in new Nobles but should bethe utmost importance to each and every Noble from Al Shamal.

Also remember as a “top line signer”, your responsibilities donot end after the candidate becomes a Noble. Please make theeffort to inform him of upcoming meetings and events as well asadvising him of the proper dress and etiquette involved in theShrine. Finally, take the time to help this new Noble in finding aUnit he might want to join.

AL SHAMAL GREETER HONOUREDIn a recent ceremony held in Calgary, Noble Clarence Christensen, a long time member of the Al

Shamal Greeters Unit was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame.

After holding various positions in the oil patch, Noble Clarence joined Commonwealth Drilling asa safety supervisor. In 1953 Clarence left Commonwealth and formed his own company, StandardSafety and Consulting Services Ltd, providing consulting services to drilling contractors. He soonbegan providing equipment and supervision for sour drill stem testing work. His company continuedto grow, with branches in many Alberta locations.

Clarence was actively involved in bringing the use of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) tothe drilling industry, replacing canister masks. He also helped train crews in the hazards of sour gasand many of the teaching principles he pioneered are still being used in H2S training programs.

Several other important industry innovations are the result of Noble Clarence’s dedication.Workers wearing SCBA units during cold weather often experienced fogging problems inside thefaceplate. Clarence consulted with a major manufacturer of SCBA equipment recommending that anose cup be provided for these masks. These cups are now standard equipment for the winter useof SCBA.

The sour gas industry also benefited from his desire to solve the problem of supplying rig crews with a constant supply of air whilethey pulled drill pipe after a sour drill stem testing. Clarence was one of the first to adopt supplied air breathing apparatus and air supplytrailers to drilling operations. He developed the largest mobile air supply unit of the time for use in deeper wells where long periods oftime wearing the mask were required.

In 1994 as a result of his contributions to safety in the oil and gas industry, the Calgary Old Timer’s Association named him Honoureeof the Year.

Congratulations Noble Clarence, we are honoured to have you as a Noble of Al Shamal and a member of the Greeters Unit.

ARAB PATROL NEWSAA GGRREEAATT CCIIRRCCUUSS WWEEEEKKEENNDD!!!!!!!! Thank you to the Nobles of Arab Patrol, who were able to attend and assist with the opening

ceremonies and the many other duties you performed. Also, a very special thank you to the members of the Legion of Honour, whomarched with us, especially Jim Leskewich. Jim turned out for every opening and even got promoted to the front ranks on the Saturdayevening show. We realize the Legion of Honour members are getting fewer, just as our own unit is, so we are open to them marchingwith us at any Parade, where both units are attending. Arab Patrol will also help and support them in any way we can. The more themerrier guys, thank you again.

Please do not forget our upcoming FFUUNNNNYY MMOONNEEYY CCAASSIINNOO, which is being held at the Shrine Centre on the 29th March 2008. Thanksto the hard work of our 1st Lieutenant, Jean Deslaurier, there will be food, games, hula dancer, prizes and of course beverages, all at theright price. Tickets are only $30 per ticket and are available at the Shrine office. Everyone is welcome, so bring your friends and family andhave an evening of fun at the Shrine Centre.

Our next venue at the Shrine Centre will be the popular Arab Patrol Annual Mothers Day Breakfast. It will be held on Sunday the 11th ofMay 2008 from 9am until 1pm. Please watch for further upcoming details.

On the 14th of April, the Patrol are commencing their practicing for the 2008 parade schedule. We could use more marchers, so if youare a Noble without a unit, have 2 good legs and a desire to have fun, consider joining the Arab Patrol and become a Premier Patrolman.

Unfortunately, some of our guys are having a tough time with sickness, so give them a visit or a phone call, just to brighten up their day…Bill Fox, Clay Elliot and Phil McComb, you may be absent but certainly are not forgotten. We hope for better days around the corner forall you fellows.

Noel Gauthier and Roy Larson decided, after many successful and award winning years, that 2008 was the year they should retire as theDrill Masters for the Arab Patrol. The Patrol thanks these dedicated Nobles for their excellent leadership on the parade square and inmaking Al Shamal proud of our Unit for winning the many awards at the various parades.

Mahlon Weir stepped forward and volunteered as the new Drill Master. He acknowledged he had some big shoes to fill, but in traditionalArab Patrol philosophy, was not afraid to accept a challenge! We all know a good marching unit requires a good man at the front, so it isyour turn now Mahlon to get us into marching shape. You know, head up, chest out, tummy in (that may be a problem for some of us),swing those arms and especially, HHAAVVEE FFUUNN.. Look out Alberta, here we come.
