T remantle eart atients Support Group is winding up in acrimonious circumstances after 25 years.

Volunteers accuse the WA health department of a vindictive campaign to strangle them in red tape because of their e ectiveness as a lobby goup for local cardiac services.

President Wayne Atkinson says the will flatline in anuary after failing to reach agreement on shifting to iona tanley, alongside the cardiac unit.

He says some bureaucrats have never forgiven the group for successfully lobbying to keep the

heart unit at remantle ospital a decade ago, when mandarins had wanted it moved to Royal Perth Hospital.

Talks over moving the group to iona tanley stalled on a number of

fronts: the department insisted the pay insurance and indemnity

The fees would have cost the group $10,000, when it only takes in $3000 a year in membership fees.

“We have been denied most of the rights that are a orded to volunteers under the department of health guidelines,” Mr Atkinson says.

FREMANTLE PORTS is refusing to say why it has black-banned wind farms at Rous Head.

WA transport minister Dean Nalder says only that the port’s board has determined “it was not in the best interests” of the port to allow a wind farm at the site.

Attempts to seek an explanation have been brushed aside. Port media wrangler Jeanette Murray says “the information from the minister’s office is remantle ort’s position and we don’t wish to add to that”.

The Fremantle Community Wind Farm group has been trying to meet with Mr Nalder for months to put its case.

WA’s information commissioner Sven Bluemmel slammed the port recently for excessive secrecy regarding its 2013 wind power report. The port released a copy so heavily redacted just 11 of 161 pages were fully visible. One-hundred were completely blacked out.

Fremantle Ports minutes from 2012 suggest concern about 120 fee-paying tenants at Rous Head “and the silent health impacts due to ambient noise of a windfarm, while the adverse e ects are not proven, would lead to people complaining”.

Just about every health problem conceivable has been blamed on wind farms, from headaches to ingrown toenails to a drop in sex drive.

The National Health and Medical Research Council has found no evidence of any health impact from wind turbines.

Internationally, studies have shown the rates of illness from “wind turbine syndrome” is identical to the rates of aches and pains and other ills across the community, and increasing levels of illness can be mapped to rates of ageing.

Federal treasurer Joe Hockey hates wind farms, calling them utterly o ensive and a blight

on the landscape”.

sawn o the branches with a hedge trimmer.

“It’s really freaky,” she says. “It wasn’t infringing on anyone’s property, it was only in our yard.

“They watched me leave the house... which is the scary thing.”

The cut branches were stacked neatly beside the tree.

“I don’t get it, none of us understand it,” Ms Halley says.

“We live in an awesome

neighbourhood. I’ve spoken to all of the neighbours and they were at a loss as well.”

The lopped tree means the kids’ cubbyhouse is now exposed and “looks really dumb”.

She called police hoping they’d fingerprint the gate but, no.

“I was wondering if anyone else in the area has had the same,” she said.

SAVE BEELIAR WETLANDS is demanding a public inquiry into the WA environmental protection authority’s controversial approval of the Roe 8 Highway.

Roe 8 was this week included in a list of 25 projects approved by EPA board members who had conflicts of interest.

SBW claims wetlands and bushland around North Lake and Bibra Lake will be ruined if 97.8ha of urban woodlands is cleared to build the tollway.

“We will now explore every legal option in challenging the 2012 conditional approval on Roe 8 as it stands,” says SBW’s Kate Kelly.

“Nothing less than a public inquiry will assure Western Australians that their unique

• S aryn and Sandra Egan s ex ibition laments t e broken country of Bibra Lake Photo by Steve Grant

environmental heritage is actually being managed properly.

“The recent approval of Roe 8 in 2013 after the EPA [approval] is now suspect.

“If the government knew the EPA’s assessment process was flawed, after the rowse as case, why did they push ahead with this approval?”

SBW convenor Nandi Chinna says the conflict of interest has shattered people’s faith in the Barnett government’s ability to make fair-minded environmental decisions.

reens ynn ac aren says the Roe 8 approval should be revoked.

“It is not too late to stop Roe 8—no bitumen has been laid,” she says.

This is the final nail in the coffin for the environmentally unsound project, which should have been struc o the

metropolitan regional scheme years ago.

“The conditional approval in 2013 outraged and confused the community who had been campaigning for 30 years to conserve the wetlands and bushlands.”

The Barnett government is seeking to ram legislation through parliament to retrospectively “greenwash” the 25 decisions now under a cloud.

s ac aren says instead of trying to cover the EPA’s shortcomings the government should shine a light on it and fix the problem.

Twenty five projects over a decade is a complete travesty,” she says.

“How this was allowed to continue for so long brings to question the practices we have in place to monitor processes that ensure state authorities are not corrupt.”

Inquiry demand

by STEVE GRANT

ARTISTS Sharyn and Sandra Egan, who grew up around Bibra Lake, are crossing their fingers the ’s blunder will kill the Barnett/Abbott governments’ renewed push to build Roe 8.

The pair is so appalled by the state of the southern wetlands they’ve dedicated their latest

exhibition Boodja Kep, at Freight allery, as a lament to bro en

country.“I walk around the lake and

think to myself ‘how would our ancestors feel about what we have done to the place’,” Sharyn says. “But I also think ‘what are our grandkids going to get—what are we leaving them?’.

“People just dump their rubbish anywhere—all over places that were sacred to our ancestors.”

When the pair was growing up, Nyungar families still camped around the lakes, as their forebears had done for tens of thousands of years.

But Sandra says as members of the stolen generation she and Sharyn had no contact with them.

It was only in later years the pair learned about the families, and say it’s curious they ended up moving back into the area.

The exhibition ends Sunday.

UnsupermumsON two recent occasions I have been driving past The Lady of Fatima school in Palmyra and I have done the right thing and slowed down to 40kph.

However, on both these occasions a “super mum” in a 4WD has pulled out in front, causing me to brake suddenly.

Now, I would imagine that these ladies had a good reason for their actions, maybe an appointment with their hairdresser or something similarly important.

The fact is I have done the responsible thing by slowing down and staying alert to avoid any chance of an accident involving parents and children and, no matter that I would have been in the right, I would still have to live with the consequences. Therefore, I would urge all parents to think before driving in this dangerous manner and putting their children’s safety before their busy lifestyles.

Steve GradyMurray Rd, PalmyraThe Ed says: No excuse for bad

driving, Steve, but perhaps those “supermums” were on their way to work?

Fremantle fairgroundSUBJECT to a recommendation by the WA environmental protection authority and approval of the federal environmental minister, the state government proposes to continue the “shark-kill policy” for a further three years with the positioning of up to 72 baited drum lines o erth beaches and

surfing spots over summers.Whilst these drum lines will

catch a high number of sharks under 3m, there is no guarantee they will prevent a “shark attack”. Over the past 12 months, I have been communicating with the WA fisheries department on this issue and recommended that a fixed sharproof enclosure of similar design to the successful one constructed at the original South Beach in the late 1920s- early 1930s, (and used for more than 30 years) be located at a suitable site in the Fremantle area.

Beaches to the north of Fremantle are more subject to winter storms than those to the south. The northern suburbs are serviced with reasonably safe swimming facilities at Hillarys Boat Harbour, and I have recommended Bathers Beach in Fremantle as a suitable location, with the structure extending from outh Mole across to the north breakwater of Challenger Harbour.

They’ll be stumped with this solutionMY heart goes out to the lady whose garden hoses are being destroyed by hooligans (Herald letters, September 6, 2014), as what I suspect is a small piece of a bigger scheme by these ruthless individuals.

We’ve all been in that situation. It happened to me in 2005. The solution was relatively simple and harmless to most involved: I placed three bear traps around my hose bib where it protrudes from the wall. I then covered the traps with pine needles. (any type of mulch will do as long as it covers the traps). Then, just wait. The individual who was manipulating my pipe now goes by the nickname stumpy.

Scott Petrill Marshville Rd, Wingate NC USA

Hilton hooroo!I JUST want to say a big thank you to the Hilton Harvest Community Garden members and the Hilton primary school for creating such a supportive, inspiring and safe natural space for the Buds n Blooms inter-generational gardening group.

What started as a seed idea has absolutely thrived with very little e ort and can only put this down to the amazing sense of community that has been generated by the garden and the school.

ince we started six wee s ago, nearly 200 people of all ages have walked, crawled or rolled (in prams and wheelchairs) into the garden. We have had visitors from aged care facilities, day care centres, mums and bubs groups, local elders and families, adults and children with special needs.

We have had enquiries from other councils looking to set up similar groups and generous support from private and government organisations.

This is just the beginning and has far exceeded my expectations on how quickly it has been embraced by the local community and all of Perth.

The community garden and the school are separate but my children have always referred to this public space as the “school farm”. What a great example of community collaboration that provides a space for people of all walks of life to share, learn and grow together. Thank you!

Sasha WrayHiltonBuds n Blooms Co-ordinator

This location is less prone to heavy sea damage from the N-NW, and is protected to some extent by o shore reef systems and is not subject to swell and wave action to the same degree as beaches to the north, and could be used safely all year round.

Such a structure would be a one o cost and not have to incur on-going costs other than occasional maintenance. Together with the adjacent ferris wheel and food outlets, this site could be made into an amusement area with a merry-go-round and other show type venues, as existed at the original outh Beach many years ago. Each day we take the short bike ride or walk to school keeping a lookout for treasures and trinkets along the way.

Drying, dying for the Dockers?TO the people of Cockburn and all who wish to see our remaining wetlands a orded the care and respect they deserve, may I draw your attention to a precious little wetland situation on the vacant land earmarked for the Cockburn aquatic recreation centre and Dockers training fields.

Education studies show the water of this wetland to be of a very high quality and sustains a varied and healthy population of water borne animals and plant life.

The plans for this site will see the wetland modified and manicured to the point of destroying its natural appearance. Heaven forbid if it is used as a storm water sump. With around 70 per cent of our coastal wetlands destroyed since European settlement, we must ensure what remains are protected and preserved for the wildlife and for people to enjoy.

If you share these concerns, please let LandCorp know of them, as it is the body responsible for the development of this site.

A LARGE stand of pine trees on North Lake Senior Campus is being removed because Perth’s drying climate is killing them.

The water table under the trees—many are at least 30 metres tall—has dropped so far they are starting to topple. The WA education department is felling nearly all of them.

Students are banned from walking through the area because of the risk of falling branches, which is a relatively common occurrence.

Pine plantations once extensively covered the southern suburbs: more recentlty the remaining pockets have become important feeding grounds for endangered black cockatoos.

There’s some silver lining to the trees’ loss: Coolbellup’s Max Rhodes has spent the past month felling and milling as much usable timber as he can for the school’s woodwork department.

The school councillor is doing the work for free and says he can get through about 10 logs a day: what can’t be salvaged is left for locals to burn as firewood (we recommend cutting it and ageing it for at least a year first).

Mr Rhodes describes the trees’ condition as shocking. Weakened by the lack of water, many have had their bases colonised by black ants.

“If you look over there you can see what happens—when the wind blows the tree basically shatters at the base,” he told the Herald.

He’s aware of local concerns about the loss of birdlife but says the trees are simply too dangerous to stay.

THE score’s now one-all between lawyers acting for developer Luke Saraceni and his estranged bank—and that’s before they’ve even got to the main game.

Mr Saraceni is taking on Bankwest for calling in the receivers on his $500 million Raine Square development in the Perth CBD, the fallout of which forced him to sell the Myer building in Fremantle in 2011.

He’s still involved in the redevelopment of the Freo building, having been taken on by new owner Sirona Capital to run the project, which is part of the $220 million makeover of Kings Square.

Mr Saraceni was almost wiped out by Bankwest when it called in receivers KordaMentha but he claims the bank acted unconscionably and outside the law.

He’s not the only one to have complained about his treatment at the hands of the Commonwealth Bank-owned subsidiary, after it called in loans to developers across the country as part of a strategy to reduce debt.

Many customers complained they’d never missed a payment but an west had reclassified the nature of their loans to charge higher interest. The issue was looked at by a Senate inquiry, but that shed little light on what happened as the bank gave its evidence in secret.

Most customers had to wear their losses, but given the size of the Raine Square development

r araceni was able to get financial bac ing from IMF to take the bank on in the courts.

If he wins, IMF will take a cut from any damages he’s awarded.

r araceni lost the first legal stoush when the Supreme Court ruled KordaMentha had been lawfully appointed to his Westgem Investments holding company. The other week he took round two after Bankwest sought an injunction to have his lawyers ac son c onald ic ed o the case.

Bankwest had argued it was possible Jackson McDonald had received illegal “preferential payments” as Westgem went into litigation, but the claim was dismissed as “fanciful”.

Saraceni’s Bankwest battle goes on

SEAN ALLISON, a former accountant and registrar at Perth Magistrate’s Court, has created a $1 million business in three years after teaming up with ‘Webinar Guy’ Steven Essa in a business called Cash ow Options.

The Perth-born public servant turned entrepreneur will be a guest speaker on the WA leg of a free Australia/New Zealand Web Business Breakthrough tour from September 19 to 21.

It is the only event around where someone will be chosen randomly from the audience to build a new business and coached to present it live on Day 3 via webinar.

During the 20 Web Business Breakthrough events held since 2012 all over Australia, in Switzerland, the US, Dubai, Cyprus, Canada and the UK, the average person chosen for this challenge has walked away with about $10,000.

“Steve is an internet genius,” Mr Allison said. “I had an idea to nancially educate people to make

an income from the stock market and Steve had the foresight to turn it into a full time business.”

He said it was a lot of work to begin with but it was the best decision he ever made. “It was worth every bit of time I put into it,” he said. “It has changed my life. As they say, if you want something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done.”

He said some of his clientshad made more than $250,000 from

his strategies. “Reputation and resultsare key to business success,” he said.

Mr Essa has helped hundreds of people start successful six gure businesses online since he launched his web programs during the 2008 nancial crisis. Not bad for a guy who failed high school!

“Even during the biggest hardships, there’s opportunity and it’s a matter of recognising this and capitalising on it,” Mr Essa said.

The Web Business Breakthrough 3-day training events stemmed from the need to o er a better future for young people and cash ow alternatives to baby boomers.

“We reveal how to create a web business so you don’t have to be a slave to geography anymore; live where you want, how you want, take control of your time and spend it how you want, not when and how others tell you, experience the lifestyle of your choice, make money from anywhere in the world and no longer be a slave to banks, the government or your job,” he said.

The Web Business Breakthrough events will be held in Crowne Plaza Perth from Sept 19 to 21,9am to 6pm, Melbourne from Sept 26 to 28,Auckland from Oct 3 to 5, Sydney from Oct 17 to 19 and Brisbane from Oct 24 to 26.

PARENTS are having a crack at creating an official nature playground in a Palmyra park where kids recently fell foul of authorities for creating their own fun.

Three weeks ago Melville council flattened the ids’ bi e trac in the unnamed bushy reserve because of public safety concerns (“No fun allowed,” Herald, August 23, 2014) after receiving just one complaint.

Now, long-term local resident Jill Willetts wants to make the park a nature playground by turning the fallen

branches the council regularly clears into stepping stones and balance beams.

he’s already negotiated to get trees due to be axed in a nearby residential subdivision relocated into the par .

“It will give the kids the opportunity to develop creativity and explore natural space, and to create their own play, says Ms Willetts, an early childhood teacher.

he says the complainant doesn’t speak for the entire street, which is right behind the ids: that was borne out when a host of young families rocked up at short notice when told about the erald’s interest in the park.

Ms Willetts says community engagement is an indication of the

changing nature of ally , with lots of young families moving in, attracted by its green spaces and the realisation of their importance to ids’ well being. e all grew up playing in the local park, building cubbies, playing hide and see , collecting hon y nuts, climbing, ma ing mud pies and getting dirty, she says.

Melville city council CEO Shayne ilcox says they’ve heard of the project

but haven’t been officially approached. He says the group can apply for

funding under the council’s obin ood program.

r ilcox says the city supports nature play, noting the par is a pretty handy bit of bush for locals to play in already.

THE future of Fremantle Medicare Local is still up in the air because the Abbott government is yet to decide what will replace it when funding runs out next year.

The organisation directly runs the Fremantle Street Doctor, the after-hours clinic at Fremantle Hospital, Closing the Gap indigenous health initiatives and the Partners in Recovery program for families a ected by mental health issues. ll are at risk if FML folds.

FML’s board met last month to discuss its future, but CEO Christa Riegler says there’s still not enough information from the federal government to make a decision.

The government says Medicare Locals will be replaced by “Primary Health Networks” which will only co-ordinate—not provide—services.

The only detail released has been sketchy “frequently asked questions” which haven’t been updated since July.

Set up under the Gillard government as a stand-alone company, FML may decide to continue if it can find a way to generate income.

“Once more information is available all possible avenues will be explored,” Ms Riegler told the Herald.

FML chair Graham Farquhar has previously indicated a commitment to continuing as a service provider.

FML also runs programs for organisations such as Headspace, which provides support and information on issues such as mental health, education, employment, alcohol and drugs.

Freo Medicare Local in limbo

by STEVE GRANT

PLANS to redevelop Fremantle’s Atwell Arcade sailed through a special council meeting Wednesday with just one dissenter.

Developer Gerard O’Brien told councillors he’d scaled back his plans as requested and, basically, the city needed his project.

It was a theme a number of speakers and councillors touched on throughout the night, the thought of 1900 hospital

jobs soon to leave the city fresh in people’s minds.

Cr Jon Strachan, a long-time member of the Fremantle Society, had concerns but felt the plans had been improved on what was originally submitted. If Mr O’Brien followed the recommendations of the

All’s well AtwellProject needed to reverse plummetting CBD retail: traders

council’s development advisory council he was confident the outcome would be positive for the CBD.

A number of mall traders stood before the microphone during public question time to speak their minds, saying business was the worst it had been in 15 years—and still spiraling down. They urged the councillors to approve the plans.

The only councillor to vote against the proposal—surprisingly—was the usually pro-development Bill Massie, who represents Hilton ward.

DAC member Sasha Ivanovich, a local architect, said the revised plans were sensitive to the precinct’s heritage.

“The city will achieve a high quality outcome in the conservation and restoration of the arcade and the two highly valued buildings bounding the site,” he said.

“The overall development should breathe much-needed new life into a key destination of the city and stimulate further investment in the city core.”

Former Fremantle Society president John Dowson disagreed, saying the 1 s style open floor plate retail

development in the midst of gold rush architecture with a clumsy large glass box on top” would irreversibly damage the area.

The former deputy mayor also took the council to task for not reforming the DAC, as recommended by Fremantle’s inner city residents’ group, saying it needed an urban planner and not just architects.

The planned four-storey Atwell building, which has a basement, will include office and retail components and Mr O’Brien says he has tenants ready to bring sta into the struggling .

Spring has well and truly sprung at the Kiosk Fremantle. This buzzing Beach Street cafe has been a hive of activity over the winter months in preparation for the wonderfully warm months ahead. Work crews have been busy installing a fantastic new enclosed verandah that will keep the weather out and keep the good vibe in!

The new, north facing verandah is entirely encased with bi-folding windows so the open feeling of the place is maintained, but it can now be closed off and heated better for night time patrons - a big plus! New lighting and d cor will add the finishing

touches over the next few weeks.“Completing these works is really

important for The Kiosk Fremantle. It will enable us to improve our offerings to our much loved customers, including live music in summer and hopefully, a restaurant license,” Mr Rossi said.

We find that people are generally really happy with the way we’ve updated the place and raised the standards. We have a great team here and we’ll look to continually improve on things,” he continued.

The Kiosk is a great spot to unwind on the river, just between the bridges.

It offers an array of yummy favourites including gourmet burgers, sensational salads and superb seafood. And it’s always worth checking out the specials board for something new and delicious.

cafelumos has been delighting diners for almost four years now with its delicious food, great coffee and

gourmet catering. This much loved valley cafe is open 7 days a week, which is good news, because the

Sunday roast is a must try!

cafelumos offers a full breakfast and lunch menu with loads of tempting items, from the traditional to

modern with a twist. Start the day by fuelling up with the lumos universe - free range eggs poached or

scrambled, bacon, chipolatas, hash browns, grilled tomato, home made baked beans, field mushroom,

english spinach & toast. If something lighter is more your style, choices include bircher muesli or fruit toast.

cafelumos also has plenty of yummy vegetarian and gluten free options available.

“We cater for those with food intolerances and have increased our raw, vegan and gluten free range,” said

owner Leon.

Located right next door to the cafe, you’ll find the larder - a treasure trove of gourmet grocery products

sourced mainly from local suppliers. The range includes olive oil, preserves, teas, coffee and chocolate.

To take home there’s healthy prepared meals, fresh salads, wraps and panini. cafelumos also stocks an

extensive selection of quality gifts ideal for any occasion.

Leon sees the larder as a natural extension of cafelumos “We always wanted to offer customers more by

opening a deli side to the business. We have the cafe, the catering and now we have the larder too,” he

explained.

It’s a great concept, offering customers more choice and convenience. So whether you’re meeting

friends for coffee, enjoying a lazy weekend brekky, organising catering for a function, or grabbing

something to takeaway for dinner, cafelumos is your one stop gourmet hot spot!

Whilst we already have a wel l known established brand in Fremantle, the response was overwhelming after our What’s New advertising in the Herald. We advertised to advise customers that we had expanded our café and that new and exciting product lines were available from our larder and giftstore. This had an instant effect from not only hundreds of new customers but amongst our regulars too. We now use this forum as a regular part of our marketing and advertising plan.

THIS two-storey mansion in Arundel Street, Fremantle,

was built in 1891 for timber merchant John Maxwell Ferguson, a busy bloke with fingers in a number of business pies, including iceworks and shipping.

He apparently established the Swan Brewery and also found time to become the state MP for North Fremantle in 1903.

In 1913 his 22-year-old manse was converted into a lodging house for men down on their luck, and so it remained until 2006.

Then, enterprising new owners saw the beauty in its bones and got to work, transforming it into an upmarket, boutique bed and breakfast.

Refurbished and renovated to its former glory there’s an abundance of of gorgeous ceiling roses, fireplaces and rich, aged jarrah floorboards a massive five inches (127mm) wide: you don’t see floorboards that wide anymore because they come from old-growth.

Centrally located, and sitting on a generous 608sqm, Arundels now consists of eight period-era suites, each with a spacious sitting area and ensuite with spa (except for

a wheelchair-friendly ground floor suite, with an easy access shower instead).

A communal verandah on the second level looks over Arundel Street, a short stroll from the Fremantle CBD, while a dining area at the rear is where guests enjoy breakfast.

A new building at the rear includes two, three-bedroom/two-bathroom apartments for families on holiday.

The sale price includes all the gubbings to run a B&B, including furniture and fittings, TVs and linen.

The vendors provide continental breakfasts but there’s a fully operational commercial kitchen if new

owners want to extend the menu.

A look at the books shows substantial profits over a long period, says real estate agent Noel Rogers, “in the vicinity of $500,000 per annum”.

The rear apartments are laid out in such a manner that one could easily become home to a live-in operator a chance to enjoy Fremantle’s unique lifestyle, while running a successful business.

There’s an office, big laundry and storage below.

It’s Back!The Herald’s

IGA Perth Royal Show competition returns

for another year!

WIN A FREE TICKET!The Royal Agricultural Society (The RAS) has been active in the Western Australian community for 180 years. Established to support the activities and emerging industries of the Swan River olony, one of the first things The RAS did at Guildford in 1834, was to bring members of the community together at an event called the Fair and Cattle Show.

This evolved into the Perth Royal Show - the State’s most important community event. The IGA Perth Royal Show is now Perth’s biggest commu-nity event attracting 400,000 visitors from the city and the country every year. With a rich history spanning 170 years, the Show is an iconic social and cultural event which showcases WA agriculture, small business and enter-tainment.

Each year the Show plays host to more than 15,000 entries across 40 competitions. That means there’s a lot of prizes to award, and plenty of buzz in the air!

There’s loads to see and do at the Show from the magical Sideshow Fun, to exhibits for animal lovers, Arts and exhibitions, and entertainment for everyone from the littlies (kids under 12 are free!) to adults, food and drink galore, fireworks, shows of skill and tal-ent plus many more family fun events and SHOWBAGS!!

Only on from 27 September till 4th October you have to put it in your di-ary and start getting the kids excited. Thanks to the RAS the Perth Voice and Fremantle Herald have some precious free tickets to the 2014 show to be won. All you have to do is tell us in 50 words or less your favourite memory of the Show or what you most want to see or do at this year’s IGA Perth Royal Show.

WARNING: Don’t call any electrican until you read this

Not all Electricians are the same... most contractors don’t turn up when they say, if at all & when they do they are often rude, unpleasant & leave you with an unfair bill, a messy

house & feeling really annoyed.Hi, I’m Dave from “My Sparky”. I know good, reliable tradies are

hard to fi nd, that’s why I guarantee you’ll have me arrive

on time. I’ll be courteous, respectful & in uniform. I will

only do the best quality work - no short cuts, then clean up after

the job & leave you with a smile. If you’re not happy at the end

you’ll receive $50 cash, on me.

ARIES (Mar 21 – Apr 20)Complete what you’ve started. Break the old astrological cliché that Rams

are good at instigation but are lousy fi nishers. After all, astrology is for identifying patterns we have to transcend. It isn’t about remaining typecast forever. The week starts of on an earthy note. Ground thyself.

TAURUS (Apr 21 – May 20)The Moon begins the week in Taurus. She sets up a powerful earthy thrust,

that reinforces all that is good in you. This includes, sensuality, stick-ability, reliability and more. With Venus and the Sun luxuriant in Virgo, you are likely to feel like the bovine equivalent of a pig in mud.

GEMINI (May 21 – June 21) With the general astrological foundations well set, it becomes

possible for you to fl y high. Groundedness serves fl ightiness in ways we rarely imagine. Entertain ideas that are exalting and innovative. Refuse to be dumbed down by the collective tone. The world needs extra vision.

CANCER (June 22 – Jul 22)Slowly and quietly you are taking yourself to a position of infl uence. The

Taurus Moon, at the beginning of the week, assists you with the energy you need, to diligently get on with it. It is your personal power that is rising to the forefront. With this shining, politics are not required.

LEO (Jul 23 – Aug 22)Expand quietly. Allow your horizons to broaden, without falling into the trap

of announcing every incremental shift on social media. To keep doing that is to give your energy away before it has fully formed. This is a time for quiet formulation. Any restraints are serving a purpose.

VIRGO (Aug 23 – Sept 22)The Sun is in your garden, helping all that you are to grow. Venus is also shining

on you, inviting you to experiment with all available varieties of delight. You are only inhibited by the limits of your imagination. Step outside preconceived notions that stop you from imagining more.

LIBRA (Sept 23 – Oct 23)Though life is presently favouring the fortunes of those who are comfortable

with groundedness and earthiness, you aren’t being fully left alone. Mercury is in Libra. He is here to make it clear that when you name things out of habit, life is less mysterious and creative. Be un-knowing.

SCORPIO (Oct 24 – Nov 21)Mars is very nearly out of your lair. With him, will go a certain amount

of fi re that has been in your belly. If there’s anything you need to do that makes use of his adventurousness and bravado, now’s the time. Once he’s gone, there will be less stress but less excitement too. Finish things.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov 22 – Dec 21)Communication. Communication. Communication. You aren’t going to

learn what is really going on unless you enter the conversation. If the conversation hasn’t been started, then start it. If it’s stalling, then turn the ignition. Keep your eye off the horizon. Deal with what’s before you.

CAPRICORN (Dec 22 – Jan 19)The Moon shines a certain kind of light on you at the beginning of the week. It

helps you make sense of all that has been diffi cult and tricky. We are here to get to the root of a very great mystery. We are not here to decode it. We are here to experience if fully. Grasp possibility.

AQUARIUS (Jan 20 – Feb 18)Under the surface of the tone of normality being set by the Virgo Sun, much is going

on. There is a battle going on between your desire for action and your desire to stay patient and allow life to determine change. Be a witness to this tension. Some kind of move is certainly to be made.

PISCES (Feb 19 – Mar 20)The Virgo Sun provides a mirror in which you can see much about

yourself that is normally unrefl ected. Perhaps you will see just how much you entertain illusion, and you will be drawn to revision attitudes, in a way that is more grounded and real. Take your work to a new level.

PURPLE is the only colour in town this week as the Dockers prepare to do battle with Port Adelaide to stay in the Grand Final hunt.

Perhaps even West Coast Eagles fans might barrack for the WA team. Perhaps.

St Patrick’s Community Support Centre is getting in on the action with a new song written just for the finals.

“St Patrick’s founder, Brother Hannick was a diehard Docker fan,” FFC CEO Steve McDermott says.

“He would have been absolutely thrilled to see the choir getting involved in this way—and to see the

team doing so well.”Forever Freo was co-written by local

songwriter Dilip Parekh and choir director Dave Johnson.

“People are united through music and sport and this is way to do both things,” Parekh says.

Johnson adds: “Our members, most of whom are homeless, enjoy coming to choir and have a sing and forget about their troubles for a while. Sport works in a similar way—it crosses all boundaries.”

“I just love having a sing. And I’ve got all my fingers crossed for Saturday,” Graham Morton, who’s been with the choir since it started, says.
