On November 2, the peopleofthe United States voiced thei ropin-ion for change, when they electedArkansas Governor Bill Clinton aspresident. The election raised a highdegree of public interest, with Texasbillionaire Ross Perot entering therace, dropping out, and re-enteringwith barely months to spare beforethe elect ion. According to USA To-day the election was a landslide,with Perot coming in third. As thecountry bid farewell to PresidentGeorge Bush, the White House wasbeing prepared forthe new Rrst Fam-ily.

In one of his final acts asCommander-in-Chief, PresidentBush ordered United States troopsto Somalia to aid inthe safe deliveryof relief supplies for that famine-stricken country. Soldiers spent theChristmas season making sure thatmuch-needed food and medicinefound itsway tothe Soma lianpeople.

Soon after Clinton's inaugu-ration, controversy arose. Clinton'spromise to liftthe ban on homosexu-als in the mi litary became the dailynews topic for a month. Clinton alsonamed First Lady Hillary RodhamClinton in charge of health care re-form, a movewhich gaineda fair share ofcriticism.
