Sponsor Memberships by Gary Hume
I started looking into Sponsor Memberships when I realized that they had not been updated recently within the Western Chapter. I thought it was going to be a tough job. What I found was how well the dealerships and businesses responded once they realized that we were a serious ATV Club. It was very pleasant and rewarding, however, it was time consuming, because they wanted to talk. There were several things that I learned along the way. First, when you leave the NYTRO Brochures, put them in a nice plastic holder labeled with NYTRO as it makes the difference between the brochures being displayed on the front counter or a back shelf. The holders are available in a four pack from Office Max at about $11 per pack. Second, I found that going in to the business with a 8 ½” x 11” manila envelope containing, an Instruction Sheet, Membership Form, NYTRO Newsletter copy and a set of NYTRO of WNY minutes was more organized than having them loose in my hand. Third, I found that expressing the promotion of our sport worked much better than asking for a discount. With these economic times, many business are reluctant to give you a set discount, but, they genuine want to promote NYTRO and our sport. Many would rather spend a few bucks for an advertisement. Fourth, you would not believe how fast the word has spread about NYTRO, just by getting the brochures out and talking to the businesses. Just think of the exposure that our chapter has gained with over 15 thousand brochures distributed throughout almost every dealership and ATV related business in our area. We are now getting phone calls and emails daily inquiring about membership and hopefully it should spill over into neighboring chapters as well. We started with minimal memberships and are already at over 260 members in the Western Chapter, and we have only begun.
I am sharing this story, to show you that we can all learn new ways to promote our sport. I started out not knowing what to do, how to do it or even where to start. Members are the best salesmen for promoting the sport we all love. I will gladly help any chapter or club get started and share my instruction sheet and and/or other materials that I have.
NYTRO of WNY by Sandra Wilkinson
The First Annual Tall Pines Winter Ride was today,
Sunday, January 22, 2012. We had 17 members and
guests for today’s ride. The ride started off a little brisk.
I think my truck said 6° when we got to Tall Pines.
Everyone was eager to ride. The sun was out and it
warmed up nicely. There wasn’t an abundance of snow,
enough to play in and the temperatures kept most sippy
holes frozen over. There were a few to play in though.
Most everyone made at least 2 laps around. We would
like to thank Tall Pines for letting us come. Everyone
had a great time. Good riding and good fellowship.

Minutes for the meeting held on Sunday, January 15, 2012
Gainesville Fire Hall @ 2:00 pm
The January meeting was called to order at 2:04 pm by President, Gary Hume. The
Flag Salute and introductions followed.
Vice-President, Russ Meidenbauer reported that there is a state meeting (NYRTO, Inc.)
coming up in April which the executive committee will be attending. At this meeting we can
present our concerns about our sport. If anyone has concerns to be brought up, please contact
Russ.
The Secretary’s report went out in the e-mail or snail mail to our members. There was
no discussion or corrections/additions
The Treasurer’s report was given by Sandra Wilkinson. With the new and renewal
memberships we are starting out the new year with a positive balance. There is the expense of
the insurance coming up soon. This brings up the mailing issue. If members have an e-mail
address, please make sure we have it and if you change it let us know. E-mail is a free venue
to get messages to members while snail mail is costly and the postage is going to go up soon.
Committee Reports:
Town Roads Committee – Bob Heubusch – Bob has submitted the package of
information regarding laws that would protect towns from liabilities for accidents to several
Wyoming County town councilmen.
Hermitage Trail – Rob Fluker -- Rob was not present but others on the

the railroad executives for their review. Some of the new data was our successes in our 2011
