Hi Everyone
Welcome to the October Meeting for the branch. I can see that the Toy Run is the
last item in the upcoming rides which means Christmas is only a few weeks away
and the end of the year is drawing near.
I have personally been very busy the last month to the extent where I near forgot that
it is meeting week and I have to get on with some articles for the newsletter. Denise
has been away at my sisters for the last few weeks which means one half of me is
missing and that is the half that usually keeps me on track.
As a branch we have had two good ride events last month. The Gloucester ride which
was well led by Chris, this was a chance for us to enjoy the beauty of the Upper
Hunter and to enjoy a picnic together. The coffee morning at Awaba House and the
ride after proved very popular. Awaba House has a varied history but is now a well
present restaurant which was a great way to spend a long week end Sunday morn-
ing.
Tomorrow we are trying to run a poker run and sausage sizzle which we have called
the “worst run poker run”. Please remember to bring along your friends and family
for the day. Breakfast will be available from 7am at Club Macquarie and registration
will be from about 9am until 9:30am in the Club bistro area, entry by the rear car-
park.
The route is an interesting one; just watch out for the big laughing bird in Kurri Kurri.
There are plenty of rest stops and the opportunity to get morning tea on the way.
The sausage sizzle will be somewhere in Rathmines Park depending on the condi-
tions on the day. If you are coming directly to the park by tin lids please remember to
BYO chair and bring some spare chairs if you can.
If you are donating any prises please bring them along on Saturday night to the meet-
ing. I am looking forward to a good day and hopefully we can raise some money for
the Black Dog Ride.
I also attended the Newcastle Lower Hunter Branch Meeting last week and it was an
opportunity to meet up with fellow Ulyssean’s. I had a great night and I would en-
courage you to consider more interaction between branches.
To those who are fighting the good fight with health and other concerns, a friend can
help and our thoughts are with you.
Remember do not ride faster than your Guardian Angel,

Early morning rain left a few wet patches on the road to Edgeworth Maccas,
the cloud overhead was starting to break up, the gathering group wondering
what sort of day we were in for and debating whether to put on wet weather
gear or not.
Some new faces, welcome to Jane who has recently joined Lake Macquarie
Ulysses riding a ZX10 Kawa and Dave and Sam, a couple visiting from the
Lower Hunter Branch. After a short briefing, 17 bikes set sail for Gloucester
with Roger and Jill doing the honours of riding tail end Charlie. Route - George
Booth Drive and Buchanan Road to East Maitland, then north up to Paterson,
East Gresford and Bingleburra Road to stop at Dungog for morning tea and
rest stop, then Stroud Hill Road across to pick up Bucketts Way north to
Gloucester. Distance 170 kms. The leader didn’t get us lost but needed some
help from elders to find Billabong Park!
Good timing, our President Trevor Cook, Denise and Trevor’s sister arrived at
the same time by car. The Park is a great picnic venue, plenty of grassed area
with seating in the shade and facilities nearby. A social time was had, stuffing
our faces, discussing the ride, the bumps and pot holes after Paterson and
along Stroud Hill Road, the Branch’s upcoming events etc. The ride home was
straight forward, down Buckett’s Way, south on Pacific Highway with a stop at
Heatherbrae for those wanting to social over a pie and tea. An enjoyable out-
ing, fantastic country side and the rain stayed away.

Ride Report— Awaba House Morning Tea—5 October
Breakfast at Awaba House and 21 people turned up and had a wonderful
time chatting away together over bacon and eggs and coffee. Then nine of
them decided to go for a quick ride around the block, the Central Coast
block that is, to the Entrance.
Paul said he would be ride leader. So off we went, first down through
Cooranbong, through Wyee and down the expressway and at each turnoff
we were ready to turn off to the Entrance. But no – Paul’s block is a big one
- finally when we got to the Kariong turnoff, guess what? We turned off!
Then we battled our way through the Gosford main road on a Labour Day
holiday weekend when everybody and his dog was out for a Sunday drive.
We eventually stopped at the little park that has the fish and chips shop on
the northern side of the Entrance and had lunch by the water. Once again
we had a good chat with each other, solved all the world’s problems before
we said our goodbyes and set off home the shortest way possible.
