Low Lunch Balance Reminders

•In order to ensure your child has access to the school lunch choices, it is important to maintain a healthy lunch balance.

•Please know that you can check your childʼs balance at anytime by logging into PowerSchool.

•In order to help parents keep track of those balances, automated email reminders are sent when balances begin to get low. Letters are also sent home with students with negative lunch balances on a daily basis.

• Those messages can sometimes go into your junk folder as they are seen by many email systems as spam.

• Please keep an eye out for these reminders and if one does go into your junk folder, mark it as safe to ensure future delivery of the messages.

"#$%!&"'(!Thank you to all who attended and completed the survey for the January club meeting. I’ve already begun to incorporate some of your suggestions for our meeting this month. Several of you commented that you would like to see “team building”. Therefore, this month the students will be working in pairs. Gradually, we will have larger groups. Please continue to complete the surveys for each session (include your kids ideas as well since this club is for them). At times, I will be asking different or more questions to help me plan for future club meetings.

Thank you for all the donations received. The students appreciated having more Legos. Their brainstorming, creating, designing, and building was more thoughtful. We love seeing them getting passionate as they were building and talking about their designs. A lot of explaining was going on. It was also a delight to see some of the adults building and taking it seriously as well. I heard some “Oh No” when I started giving count down times.

Our goal is to purchase bigger base plates (10x10) for the students. I have found our current plates are not quite big enough and this has been a source of frustration for the kids. We need 25 of them. Do you have any you’re not using? Please donate! We also appreciate monetary donations to purchase them. They run around $14 per plate.

WHEN: Friday, February 20th TIME: 3:00pm – 4:00pm (3-5th grade) 4:30pm -5:30pm (K-2nd grade) WHERE: Glenview Public Library, Multipurpose Room THEME: Super Structure Towers – Part I SPACE IS LIMITED TO FIRST 25! CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP www.SignUpGenius.com/go/805044FACAE2CA57-super/3507560

Email will be sent upon sign-up.

This club is FREE! We are accepting donations of money or Legos to help cover the cost. DONATE YOUR OLD LEGOS! WE NEED 10x10 BASE PLATES!

Make checks payable to WB/GG PTA. These can be sent to school in an envelope marked: Lego Club or by contacting Keisha at: [email protected]

PLEASE HELP VOLUNTEER: We are looking for older students especially those who are Lego enthusiasts and parents to stay and help out. Contact: [email protected] or visit www.wbggpta.org .

Fourth Grade Music Program“From The Inside Out”

A Celebration of Positive Character

On Friday February 27th, our fourth graders will present the music program “From The Inside Out”. This is a musical journey celebrating positive character traits through singing, drama, movement, and instrumental playing. We have been working hard to get ready for this program and hope you will be able to attend our performance. Since our fourth grade is seven classes this year, we are splitting the group into two performances. The first group (Martinsen, Hartnett and 4TREE) will perform at 9:30 a.m. The second group (Dahmer, Vaselopulos, Geigner and Mateling), will perform at 1:00 p.m. All performances are in the gym. Students should dress in School Spirit Wear or Blue and Green to show our Gator Pride.

The BOX TOPS Program is a great way for you to support your school, and doesn't cost anything. Simply clip box top labels, similar to those below, from everyday products you already have at home. Box tops are available on a wide variety of products, including General Mills cereals, Ziplock food storage, Hefty products, Pillsbury products, Green Giant products, Scott tissue, Hanes products, and so many more! If you keep an eye open for them, you’ll see them everywhere.

Each box top is worth 10 cents, sometimes more, to the school. If 500 kids bring in 10 box tops each, that’s $5000 for the school.

Don’t throw away your box tops! Send the box tops to school with your child and have him or her drop them off in the front office. Schools have collected thousands of dollars this way, and so can we!

BOX TOPS MUST BE UNEXPIRED, LEGIBLE AND UNTORN.

LRC News for 2/13The library is still waiting for many overdue books to be returned. Overdue notices were sent home with report cards in November. Students are allowed to check out two books for two weeks and renew any titles as needed.

If your child canʼt find their overdue book, we are asking he/she pays the replacement cost of the title. This is to ensure the library has books students want and need to read.

Thank you for your support with this matter.

Starting Time at All Intermediate Schools is 7:55 a.m.That means that the buses will arrive at school, for the most part, by 7:45 at which time the bells ring and students will enter their classes. Morning announcements are made daily at this time about events during the day, etc. It is very important for students to be on time to facilitate the start of the day with the knowledge and information to be successful.______________________________________

Morning Arrival ProceduresWalkers coming from the walking path west of the school must follow the path around the back of the building to the playground area when arriving prior to 7:45 a.m. Walkers arriving from the

neighborhoods to the east should proceed directly to the playground using the paths on the east side of the building, and walkers should use the pathways on the west side of the building. Bike rider must dismount their bicycles once reaching school grounds and walk their bicycles to the racks either in front of or behind the building to be secured in the bike racks closest to their route home. Classes begin at 7:55 a.m. at Glen Grove. Students may not arrive at school prior to 7:35 a.m. There is no supervision before this time. At 7:35 a.m. Glen Grove Staff will supervise children on the playground. Children should be dressed appropriately to be outside if the wind chill is above 0° F. Starting time at all intermediate schools is 7:55 a.m. That means that the buses will arrive at school, for the most part, by 7:45 at which time the bells ring and students will enter classes. Morning announcements are made daily at this time about events during the day, etc. It is very important for students to be on time to facilitate the start of the day with the knowledge and information to be successful.

Homework and Vacation The following are the Extended Absence

Homework Policy guidelines that we have put into place to provide the

framework for work that needs to be completed because of an extended absence.Strong school attendance is a critical component to a student's

success in school and the importance of good attendance is constantly stressed at Glen Grove. While we value the experiences children receive from visiting other places and spending time with family members afar, it is strongly advised that families schedule trips and vacations within school holiday periods, so as not to impact a studentʼs attendance at school.

If your child will be out of school for an extended vacation, notify the teacher and the health office, in writing, in advance of the absence. Homework or make-up work is not provided in advance for extended vacations. It is expected that your child will keep a journal of the trip and complete an independent reading log to be turned in upon his/her return to school.

Please know that teachers will work to provide some of the learning opportunities and work that will be missed upon return. However, the teachers are not able to recreate the classroom environment, so please understand that there may be experiences or learning situations that cannot be recreated or adapted. Upon return, the teachers will work to create manageable assignments and deadlines for core assignments, but it will be the studentʼs responsibility to make-up the work.

Note: If a student experiences an extended absence for medical reasons, there is the option to pursue eligibility for homebound instruction during that absence.

From the Nurses OfficeStudents requiring any medications during school hours must file a medication form with the health office.  This form requires a physicianʼs signature as well as a parentʼs signature.  All medication brought to school must be in an appropriately labeled pharmacy container.  This also includes over-the-counter medicine such as Tylenol, Advil, Cough Drops, etc.  In order to care for asthma medication, additional forms need to be completed. Just a reminder....if your child is out sick with a fever or vomiting please make sure they do not return to school until they are fever free or symptom free for 24 hours.

Outdoor Recess ProceduresThe benefits of an outdoor recess are many and Glen Grove makes every effort to see that all of our students go outdoors every day. Children are able to exercise, socialize and experience a variety of activities with friends and this all helps to enhance their learning experience. Starting the afternoon after a time of fresh air definitely improves learning, alertness and overall productivity.

Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for outdoor play. In cold weather boots, mittens or gloves, warm jackets, snow pants, hats and scarves are a must. If your child wears boots to school, please remember to send in shoes for them to use during physical education. The wind chill factor must be ten or below or it must be too wet or raining before we cancel outdoor recess. The children are out approximately 20 minutes. Please note that children must wear coats if temperatures are below 32°F.

We are often presented with requests for children to remain indoors at recess, generally because of allergies or as part of a recovery from illness. If it is necessary for your child to be indoors at recess, a note from the doctor will be required. We appreciate your support and cooperation with our recess procedure.
