by: President Chuck Gleichmann
Beautiful weather is finally here along with some nice
fishing. If you look further on in the Chum Line you
will see better catches inshore, offshore and from both
the beach and pier. Make sure you all take some time
out to spend on the water or beach to enjoy the weather
and all of the activities we have to offer in May.
Ladies, PLEASE plan to make May’s meeting early
and spend some time with Shay Morrow to scope out
what you want in a ladies program going forward. The
slate is clean so now is the time to let us know what
you want as far as clinics, tournaments and awards are
concerned.
The May meeting will also bring elections for both
President and Vice President. Chuck Radloff and I
have reached our term limits so you will finally be rid
of both of us. We know the club will be in good hands
so Chuck and I are going fishing. There is still time
for anyone interested to throw his or her name in the
hat for either job. Please call

Minutes taken by: Carol Carter
Call To Order - by Chuck Gleichmann at 8:30 PM
Pledge of Allegiance: by Capt. Mike Brennan
Passing of March Minutes: motion was made by Dean Roberts, seconded by Gene
Morrow and passed by the members
Finance Report & Dues Reminder: by Tim Miller, treasury has $22,172.47 of
which $7250.00 has been collected for the Spring Tournament. Reminder for all to
pay their dues and that out of those dues and our paid tournament funds comes the
money for our free tournaments, picnic and part reduction for the Christmas Party.
Welcome Visitors & New Members: There were 8 guests/visitors at the meeting.
Announcements: Chuck Gleichman spoke about a program at Wadsworth School
that club member, John Finelli is involved in. It is a reading program for fathers
and sons and they are reading a fishing story, so to involve the boys and their dads,
on May 2nd they will take 10 boys to Bings Landing from 9 - 11 AM to fish. If
anyone can volunteer from the club to help out, it will greatly be appreciated.
REPORTS Weigh Master Report & Yearlong Vote: There was no weigh master report. In
Chris Davy's absence, Chuck Gleichman handed out examples of the proposed
changes in the year long tournament rules and ballots for the members to cast their
votes. The example showed what the difference would be with the biggest fish
category being changed as opposed to changing from the 10 point rule and making
it a 12 point rule now. There were two different scenarios from 2014 and 2015. The
rules were changed 5 - 6 six years ago, it had been that the biggest fish won, but it
was changed to the point system at that time. There were two options on the ballot,
number one was that the biggest fish would win, number two was that the point
system would change from 10 to 12 points. Ron Gorney also wanted a third option
to read that the point system would stay at 10 points. Chuck told the members they
could add a third option to the ballot by writing it in that they would keep the sys-
tem the way it was. Ballots were cast and will be tallied that evening after the meet-
ing and the members will be notified of the decision.
Elections: Chuck Gleichmann announced that Chris Davy will run for president of
the club and that Chuck Gleichmann will stay on as vice president to help Chris ease
into the job. The election vote will be at the May meeting and the new officers
begin their terms in June. We will need to elect a new Weigh Master also. If any-
one is interested in any of the three positions, please let Chuck or Chris know.
NEW BUSINESS
Spring Tournament: Chuck Radloff said there has been $10,500 commit-
ment to the funds for the tournament. Members fee for the tournament will be
$45.00 if they are signed up ahead of time, it will be $55.00 at the captains
meeting. He also has an anonymous donor of $150 and the club will match
that amount of which will be a separate prize in the tournament and whoever
has the first redfish to be weighed in with the most spots will win $300.00.
Volunteers are needed to get flyers and posters distributed to the bait shops or
any stores or offices that are willing to post this tournament at their place of
business. One of the special raffles will be a $400 Yetti cooler filled with
liquor, which is a $500 value. Tickets will be $10 each, reduction in price for
multiple tickets. Volunteers are needed around 2 PM on Sat. at Bings Land-
ing to help set up the vendor areas. $100 sponsors can still be taken for the
tournament. Donations are still being taken for the silent auction. Capts.
Meeting will be at 7 PM at Fuego Del Mar in Flagler Beach on Fri. 4/24. On
4/25, fishing will be from 7 AM-4:30 PM, weigh in will be from 3 PM - 4:30
PM at Bings Landing. Captain's BBQ will donate part of their food receipts
that day, so please dine there and help raise more funds for 2nd Chance Res-
cue and the club. The silent auction will have some very nice prizes, includ-
ing trips to U.S. Virgin Islands and Costa Rica, Flyers that were made up for
the club by club photographer, Ellen Scheurer, will be distributed to club
members and displayed at the Chamber of Commerce, Flagler Pier and bait
shops in our area.
Smoke Off Winners: There were 14 people who entered the contest said
Andy Block. Dave Gank, and Ron Gorney brought smoked fish dip. Andy
thanked Justin Holmes, Art Burns and Terry Alex for helping out. Pam Fe-
hrenkamp donated a 14 lb. redfish to use in the contest. Winners were: 1st
place - Walt Huresky, won an apron with the club logo on it. 2nd place -
Andy Block, won a towel with the club logo on it and 3rd place - Jim Bowl-
ing, won a bag of cherry smoking chips.
Swap & Shop- was held also. 50/50: of $120.00 was won by Emmit Piz-
zoferrato, Emmit donated his winnings to the club for the Spring Tourna-
ment. Thank you Emmit for your generosity!
Ladies Clinic - Shay Morrow made the announcement for the women in the
club to come to the May meeting early because from 6 - 7:30 PM, there will
be a meeting for the women to discuss any ideas that they may have to add to
the club's activities. Wine and cheese will be served at this discussion.
Meeting adjourned at 9:15 PM
The club’s inaugural Smoked Fish Smoke Off was held at our April 7th general meeting. Regardless of the
1 hour start time delay caused by the VFW being used as a voting venue, we had a great turnout. 13 delicious
entries including black drum, sheepshead, crevalle jack, lane snapper and bluefish were judged by Dwayne
Martin, Bob Cyr and Ed Rainer who were kept in a backroom to keep the judging anonymous. As the entries
arrived, volunteers Justin Holmes, Art Burns and Terry Alexander assigned the contestant the next number in
line and kept their names secret by taping the entry slip with the “smoker’s” name on the inside.
When the results were all tallied up, Walt Huresky took 1st place with his black drum and went home with the
club logo embroidered apron, Andy Block took 2nd with his bluefish and won the large embroidered hand
towel and Jim Bolling took 3rd with his bluefish and won a bag of cherry wood smoking chips.
After the winners were announced, around 40 members and guests joined in sampling the entries as well as a
redfish donated by Pam Fehrenkamp and smoked by Andy Block. Besides the fish, everyone enjoyed the out-
standing smoked fish dips made by David Genk, Ron Gorney and Walt Huresky. All in all it was a great inau-
gural event and the member feedback was all-good. Thanks to everyone that helped out, smoked and gener-
ously shared their fish and to Shay Morrow for getting 499 crackers to go with the fish and dips.

It seems that our spring is finally here in full ef-
fect! The forecast will be much the same as April,
plus more. By “more” I mean we should all be
catching more fish, plus expecting more species.
On the beach, anglers can expect more blue fish,
more pompano, and more Spanish mackerel, as
well as, the usual whiting and occasional redfish
and black drum. From the pier, the bite will be
much the same. However, as the month pro-
gresses be on the lookout for a shot at a kingfish
or two!
Inshore Anglers it is time to dust off your favorite
topwater plug. Hit your favorite flat, early in the
morning, for some exciting redfishing or target
creek mouths and drop-offs for speckled sea trout.
After chasing the topwater bite, anglers can target
flounder as the day warms up. For the flatties,
target deep holes with moving water using a ¼
ounce jighead and a small mullet or mud minnow.
Offshore Anglers should not have to travel far for
some exciting battles. Kingfish and cobia will be
found on the beach and on the wrecks and reefs.
While fishing these waters, be on the lookout for
sailfish as they too move in with the warmer wa-
ter. Deep water anglers will be greeted by more
dolphin. An occasional wahoo or blackfin tuna
may still find its way into the spread also.
Good luck on the water and remember - fishing is
fun, have a blast!

If you haven’t taken the time to drive to DeLand and visit this amazing collection of fishing “stuff”, then you just haven’t lived. No
better way to say it. This is the same article I wrote last year for The Fisher-Man. I haven’t improved any but they are still spec-
tacular so why not repeat myself.
When I first drove to DeLand to talk to Mike Arthur last year about being an annual sponsor for our club, I had no idea what to ex-
pect. A fishing store at an airport just didn’t seem to make a lot of sense. It still doesn’t, sorta. Several members had told me that
they had been there and it was one of the best-kept secrets in our area but I still didn’t get it. I turned off Highway 92 in DeLand
onto Flightline Blvd, and then took another left at the second building and there was the sign, “The Fisher-Man”. Peter Bessette,
our club Quartermaster, was with me. We opened the door and there it was--at least one but more like fifty of everything ever
known by man that anyone that had ever even seen a fish absolutely needed to even think of ever catching one. Not sure I said that
right but let’s just say Mike has a bunch of “stuff” that we are all looking for and definitely need on the shelves. Peter and I must
have roamed around for an hour just looking in amazement.
So here’s the pitch. Mike sells everything -new and used- that involves fishing. He did the same thing for 20 years with his dad,
and opened this store with his son in 2004. Frankly, it is one of the neatest places that I have ever been in that involved our sport
and his prices are unbelievable. Everything from spare parts for old reels, to old lures, to rods and reels (even new Shimano Reels),
inshore, offshore, sand flea rakes, braided line, hooks, just on and on and on--there just isn’t anything that you cannot find there.
And yes, he has all kinds of new tackle too. Then we looked in the back room and there is even more “stuff”. Also while we were
there (even though it is at an AIRPORT-I have to keep saying that), there was a constant flow of anglers in and out looking for this
or that and they always found whatever they needed. As we talked to them, we learned that they had known Mike for years and had
been shopping there for the vast majority if not all of their fishing needs.
If you are wondering where Peter bought the rod and reel combos that we raffled off last year at all of our monthly tournaments,
you guessed it.
Sorry for using the same article as last year guys but this place is great and I couldn’t say anything different than I did last year be-
cause frankly, it just doesn’t get any better than this place for shopping for fishing gear.
So, visit The Fisher-Man. 813A Flightline Blvd., #6, DeLand, FL 32724. Call at (386) 624-6920. They are opened Tuesday
through Friday, Noon to 6pm and on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm. THEY ARE CLOSED ON MONDAYS.
By: Bill May Newer members wishing to hitch a ride for a tourna-
ment or just learn the ropes of fishing our area are en-
couraged to try our Share a Ride Program. This is not
a charter but is an opportunity to learn from some of
the best captains on the water typically just for ex-
penses. The financial arrangements are between you
and the particular captain and should be understood
before taking the trip. Tackle is handled in the same
manner. Riders are also responsible to carry the
proper fishing licenses required for the trip as well.
You will need to fill out a Share a Ride form and pair-
ings will be done at each monthly meeting so see me
at the front table before the meeting begins to pick up
a form and answer any questions.

Please call

Smoke Off Winners: There were 14 people who entered the contest said

thanked Justin Holmes, Art Burns and Terry Alex for helping out. Pam Fe-
hrenkamp donated a 14 lb. redfish to use in the contest.
