Most Rev. Thomas J. Flanagan Liaison for CCCR

Father Bob Hogan, BBD Associate Liaison

Rosbel Hernandez Director

Thanks to all of you who attended the September 26 session on Worship Leading that Evangelizes. Our Fall Prayer Group Training Series continues with two presentations in October:

1) OCTOBER 17 from 10 am to 12:30 pm at CCCR: Prayer Ministry for Evangelization. Praying with people for a personal commitment to Jesus Christ, for baptism in the Holy Spirit, for the gift of tongues, for other charisms/spiritual gifts, for the empowerment of the Spirit, for God’s call and direction in their lives. Everyone is invited. All those in- volved in prayer ministry should attend. You will grow in greater understanding, wis- dom and anointing for this ministry.

2) OCTOBER 31 from 10 am to 12:30 pm at CCCR: Intercession Opening Doors for Evangelization. Learning the power of intercession to overcome obstacles to God’s work. Jesus said that certain difficulties can only be overcome with prayer and fasting. Learn to be guided by the Spirit in what to intercede for and how to intercede (for indi- viduals, families, churches, neighborhoods, our city). Learn about and experience the power of united group intercession. Everyone is welcome. We need strong interces- sors for the Charismatic Renewal and the whole Church in our Archdiocese.

Because of the opportunity to have Fr. Hampsch speak to us on the weekend of November 6-7, we will not have the 4 th session of the Fall Series on November 7. The St. Mark Prayer Group along with other groups in their zone will be sponsoring his visit. You will be getting more information about Fr. Hampsch speaking and leading services on the Healing of the Family Tree.

This weekend, October 2-4 is the Church of the City Ecumenical Conference that the Center is co- sponsoring. The theme is “Transformation…Personal …Family… Neighborhood…and City.” Last month you received the information brochure. The brochure has the correct address. I gave an incorrect address in last month’s newsletter. The place is Abundant Life (Viva Abundante) Church at 7431 S. Presa, 78223 (near SE Military) on the south side of town. From the downtown area from 35 or 10 or 90 you head south on 37 (toward Corpus Christi). Exit at SE Military Dr. (Exit 135). Turn right on SE Military and go 2.3 miles. Turn left on S. Presa and the Church will be on the right on the first block. We will be very blessed to have Charles Whitehead again (coming from England; former chairperson of the International Office for Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Rome) as the main speaker. We were very blessed by him last year. Sessions are Friday (7:00 pm), Satur- day (9:30 am to 12:30 pm and 6:30 pm) and Sunday (6:30 pm). There is no registration cost. Love offerings will be taken. Come and invite people to come with you. God is preparing us for great things in our city, but we need to respond to God’s call. We had a good Catholic turn out last year. I pray that it is even better this year. We will see you there!

Cuantos quieren imitar a María? Por su obediencia Dios la separo para traernos al Salvador del Mundo. Quieres dar de tus talentos al mundo como María lo hizo? María te

ARCHDIOCESE HEALING MINISTRY WORKSHOP

Saturday, October 10, 2009 9am to 12 noon

Catholic Center for Charismatic Renewal

GOD WANTS TO HEAL US PRAYERS FOR HEALING (Part 2)

"Praise The Lord, my Soul, and do not forget how kind he is. He forgives all my sins and heals all my dis eases.” (Ps 103:2,3)

PRESENTED BY: Pedro & Nelda Palacios (English) Josie Gonzales & Irene Garza (Spanish)

ATTENTION: EVERYBODY IS WELCOME, ALL HEAL ING MINISTERS wishing to join the CCCR HEALING TEAMS should attend this workshop. Those persons wanting to be Healing Team Members must attend at least 6 Healing Ministry Workshops during the year. Prayer Groups may send their Healing Teams for training.

FOR INFORMATION: Pedro & Nelda Palacios, 6803255 Josie Gonzales, 9249976

FROM THE SERVICE COMMITTEE: Why does the 'Charismatic Lifestyle' belong at the heart of our Spiritual life? The Charismatic Lifestyle is not a private spirituality devel- oped by men as a means of expressing their faith. Rather, it is mainly something God has done. A Grace He has poured out in order to renew His Church. It is, first and foremost, an inward Grace: a gratuitous, overpowering and very intimate certitude or confidence of God's presence, His love, and His saving power in our life. It is living a full life in the Spirit which is often (but not always) accompanied by extraordinary spiritual gifts, such as those that appeared among the early Christians after Pentecost.(1 Corinthians 12) The Charis- matic Lifestyle is often Evangelical in its nature that draws Christians into the fullness of the Holy Spirit. On September 26 th , Fr. Bob Hogan began the fall workshops on Practical Evangelization Tools & Training for the Prayer Community. The Service Committee wants to thank those who attended the first workshop and encourage you to attend the October classes on the 17th & 31st at 10:00 am. I hope to see you there. We want to thank the St. Paul's Youth & Prayer Community along with Matt Arismendez for an Evening of Re- newal & Revival that really brought about New Life. The October Evening of Renewal & Revival will be hosted by the Zone 3 Prayer Com- munities at Assumption Chapel located in Reinbolt Hall on the campus of St. Mary’s University, One Camino Santa Maria, San Antonio, Texas 78228. The Special Guest Speaker will be Gail Dereszewski, Pastoral Associate at St. Monica Catholic Church. She will be speaking on "Embrace the Call to Holiness". Praise & Worship will begin at 7:00 pm, Friday, October 23rd. Bring the whole family.

The Charismatic Youth Office invites you to attend their “Take Jesus To The Streets” Rally & Mass at San Fernando Cathedral on Octo- ber 11th at 3:00 pm. We will meet at CCCR and then go in procession to the Cathedral for Mass at 7:00 pm. Bring the whole family for a fun day with our youth.

CCCR is thrilled to introduce Fr. John H. Hampsch, C.M.F., noted author and teacher on Spiritual Warfare to San Antonio. The forces of darkness can destroy our family before they are even noticed. Demonic entities are forces of evil that seek to penetrate our lives and relationships with their manipulative and destructive ways. On November 6th & 7 th , the Zone 2 Prayer Communi- ties will sponsor a weekend retreat entitled, "Spiritual Warfare! What's That?" “Exposing The Reality of Evil”, with Fr. John Hampsch. This weekend retreat can teach us the ways in which these demonic entities can affect us, and describes how we can elicit God's power to deal with them effectively. The location will be at Christopher Hall, St. Marks Catholic Church, 1602 Thousand Oaks Dr. San Antonio, TX 78232-2398. The event will begin at 7:00 pm, Friday. More details to come in November newsletter. Seating is limited so plan to get there early.

Please remember to keep up with your ministry of generosity and support to the CCCR with your gifts and prayers.

May God Bless You, Jerry Syring Chairman

Spontaneous Prayer Spontaneous prayer can be healthy and should be encouraged. But too much spontaneous prayer without structure can also be a hindrance at times. When Jesus showed his disciples how to pray, he didn’t say, "Just make it up as you go along and be sure not to read anything or use a form!" Sometimes we act like that is what he said. Instead he said: "And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Fa- ther knows what you need before you ask him." (Matthew 6:7-8)

The a.c.t.s. Approach to Spontaneous Prayer ACTS is an acronym that provides a framework for spontaneous prayer. It can help keep you focused no matter where you are or what is going on in your life at the moment.

Adoration This is another word for "worship" — and as we have seen, only God is worthy of our worship. Elements of worship include rever- ence, admiration and love. In all these ways, God should come first in our lives. No matter what your purpose in praying at the moment, begin with adoration — in your heart and in your words. Need some inspiration? Try a line from the Psalms, such as, "How awesome are your deeds" (Psalm 66:3), or "O Lord, our Sover- eign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!" (Psalm 8:9) A good prayer exercise is to browse the Psalms looking for phrases to use in your own prayers.

Confession Acknowledge where you have fallen short, where you have made wrong choices, where you have indulged the false god of self- sufficiency, where you have let yourself fall prey to pride and fear, and ask God to forgive you. Thank Him for the gift of salvation in Jesus, and resolve to do your best to follow Jesus’ example in all you do and say. Ask for His help. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1 John 1:9-10)

Thanksgiving. We should take nothing for granted — not even life itself. Thank God for your own existence, for the existence of all whom you love, for His love, His selfless sacrifice, for his constancy and pa- tience, for every good thing in your life, and for His Spirit to guide you in all you do and say.

Supplication Now it’s appropriate to do what most of us do most of the time with our prayers — petition God for something, perhaps even many things. It’s more than okay to ask God for things. And noth- ing we want will surprise Him. He knows us better than we know ourselves. Fortunately, He also loves us even more than we can ever love ourselves. So remember, no request is too small or large. Most of all, ask God to do what is truly best for you — even if you will have difficulty accepting it — and ask Him to help you accept His will for your life. Even Jesus struggled with accepting the Father’s will for Him. But in the end He did it. Pray for the same level of acceptance on your part.

Hi to all of my readers and supporters. For those of you who are unaware, Michael and I had our baby boy, Caleb Joseph, on July 30 th . He weighed 8.6 lbs. and was 21” long. We are very Blessed to have him

as part of our family. We’re sure we will be writing some of his “Jesus remarks” soon too!

I missed sending in some articles, but I am ready to get back into it. So, for this month, I have a couple for you! God Bless!

My 3 year old son, Nathaniel, was sitting at the table with me one afternoon. We were eating our lunch. It’s usually a time for conversation, but at this particular moment, we were not saying a word. He

then blurted out a little laugh and said, “Jesus is funny.” Who knows what Jesus was doing at that moment, but He showed his humorous side to Na- thaniel. I thought this was absolutely divine and adorable.

backpack and lunchbox before coming to me for a kiss and a blessing. Before Abram got off the truck, he reached out to his sister and new baby brother. He ran his finger on their head and said, “God Bless you.” He did that on his own. I loved it. Thank God for our ministers in the making!
