Salutations Division 17!

We’re about two months into the school year...anyone ready for summer vacation yet? Jokes aside, it has been a hec-tic two months! In October, we had Fall Rally, Footsteps for Families (our divisional event), a Divisional Council Meeting, and of course, all of your club service projects and fundraisers!

Our divisional event was a simple success! We were able to raise $100 towards preventing child abuse in the state of New Jersey, and we participated in the event by walking 5 laps around the inside of the mall. Fall Rally, of course, was amazing as ever! With over 3000 Key Clubbers screaming inside 6 Flags stadium, it was truly a sight to behold, but the best moment for me was seeing our division, rather than just my home club amidst the spirited crowd. (I still think you guys should have won that spirit stick). Thank you to EVERYONE who took the effort to come out to this extraordinary event!

After one, comes another~ The ELIMINATHON is approaching, and I need EVERYONE’S help in order to make this event a success! Please check out the pages regarding the event, and PLEASE take note of any announcements and assignments I give out! We are paired up with Division 16, so you will all get a chance to meet LTG David Guir-gis if you haven’t already!

Don’t forget! Dues deadline is THIS SATURDAY. Let’s all aim for that Early Bird Award! It’s going to be a hectic month, and I know a lot of you are busy, so I try to remind you as much as possible, but please try to keep yourselves and each other accountable so we can conquer MNT and this service year!

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me!

Yours in caring and service,

Like

Hello Division 17, Here is an explanation of the dues process for the 2014-2015 service year. During the 71st International Convention, the cost of international dues was raised to $7.00. District dues are still $5.50. Clubs are also permitted to charge an additional $5.00 in order to nurture their club treasuries. The minimum charge for dues is no less than $12.50 and no more than $17.50. If the dues payment for your club is received by November 1st, 2014, the club will win an "Early Bird Award." If you are unable to have them received by the previously mentioned date, you can still send the dues payment in to meet the require-ment for a dues paid club status. The deadline for regular dues payment is December 1st, 2014. Remem-ber, for both of these dates, the dues payment must be received by the District, not postmarked. As I am sure you already know, dues are vital for the smooth functioning of the District. Not only do they keep the District and International progress afloat, but they are also essential in coming back to reward mem-bers. Dues help pay for district functions like Regional Training Conferences, Fall Rally, and District Conven-tion as well as help to fund the district website and cover the cost of printing the Jersey Key. - District Treasurer Daniel McCormack

Process for Dues Payment 1. Go to www.keyclub.org/MUC 2. Log into the Membership Update Center using the information provided from your adviser (see the below list for instructions on setting up a password if you do not already have one). 3. Update and edit all necessary member informa-tion (ex: deleting seniors, updating officer list) 4. Once your club member information is accu-rate and updated, print the invoice and either 1) mail it with a check or 2) submit credit card informa-tion directly after generating an invoice

How to Create a Password (Completed by an Adviser)

1. If you are new to using this system click the Register/Reset Password the first time you use the Membership Up-date Center 2. Enter a faculty adviser’s email address (NOT a per-sonal address) and further instructions to set up a pass-word will be sent to that address – check for this email but note the response may not be immediate. 3. If an adviser or club secretary is having difficulties accessing the Membership Update Center, send an email to Member Services and be sure to include what the prob-lem is and all pertinent information (club’s full name, your name, phone, email). Note this information must be emailed.

Dues should be sent to: Key Club International

ATTN: NJ Dues 3636 Woodview Trace Indianapolis, IN 46268

Shin it KEY CLUB WEEK Like P4

Take photos throughout the week & send them to me! I want to make a montage or collage!

Key Club Week is approaching and I HIGHLY recommend you to participate in at least part of it! Some of them are easier than others, so why not just pull a Nike? (Just do it). Here is the breakdown with a little more detail, and my own personal twist!

Monday: Wear as much Key Club gear and/or Key Club colors as possible. Have your members take selfies, or your editor take pictures of those showing off their Key Club spirit! #KeyClubWeek Tuesday: Hold a small ceremony for Kiwanians or Key Clubbers who have served their homes, school, and commu-nity well. This can take place during a Key Club meeting, after school, or in the evening. If you can’t get together, you can always make little shout out cards or certificates for them! Wednesday: Hold an event with another K-family club. Thursday: One of Key Club’s four core values is INCLUSIVENESS. Have your members bring at least ONE friend to a meeting!! Friday: Ultimate Freedom. Do whatever Key Club-esque thing your club could possibly do. Whether it be holding a mini service project or a spirit day.

Shin it Fall Rally Recap P5 Like

Fall rally was an important and fun key club experience. It started off with the introductions of the district LTGs and executive board, as well as a key note speaker who spoke about their experiences in Haiti. After the "meeting" I met up with many key clubbers from many different districts as well as our LTG Jae, and key club members from our own club. We spent the day riding roller coasters and talking about different experi-ences we had with key club such as service projects and general topics. Overall fall rally was an amazing day and I can’t wait for next year! - Evan Obethaler, General Member, Tenafly Key Club

I hope all of you will attend next year! :)

I had an AWESOME time at Fall Rally, what about you?

New Jersey Fall Rally was an engaging and motivating event with activities, guest speakers and best of all, three thousand Key Clubbers. In New York District, in which I am a Lt. Governor, our Fall Rallies are dif-ferent, so attending the NJ Fall Rally is a great change. It is amazing how members were gathered for a cele-bration of service at Six Flags Great Adventure. Not only did I enjoy the exciting rides, listen to inspirational keynote speakers and discuss new forms of service, but I met many Key Club members and reunited with old friends. - Aaron Cheung, LTG of Division 11, NY District

This year I got the chance to go to Key Club Internationals fall rally. This experience was AMAZING. I got the chance to meet many different people from different key clubs in New Jersey. This was something you couldnt experience anywhere else. Fall rally 2014 turned out to be more than it was expected to be. I made many new friends and I'm already looking forward to next years rally. - Dhruv Patel, Treasurer, North Bergen Key Club

The details have been finalized!

For those of you who may not know, the Eliminathon is the DISTRICT event for the 2014-2015 service year. Divi-sions have paired up to have their teams verse each other in a fight to the death..otherwise known as a volleyball tournament! The winning team between the two divisions will advance to verse other champions in the district at a later date.

Division 16 and Division 17 have paired up and teams from both will compete for a prize, and advancement to the district wide tournament. LTG of Division 16 David Guirgis, and I ask that club officers advertise this event not only to their clubs, but to their schools. Teams of 6-8 are allowed to contain any high school student, as long as there is AT LEAST one Key Club member on the team! If you have an 8 member team, then that means you will have two subs. Please have AT LEAST one team from your club register for the event, but also feel free to have your team include Key Clubbers from other clubs in your division!

Our tournament will take place Saturday, November 22nd at 1:30pm at Tenafly High School. Please register all teams to David Guirgis or me by November 16th.

I will be needing some assistance here and there, so please keep your ears perked for assignments! Updates will be given via Facebook, email, and phone! I will be working hard to make this event a success, and I ask for all of your support as well. Let’s spike out MNT from the face of the planet!

Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. An estimated 70,000 people worldwide have this disease. The life expectancy for someone diagnosed is somewhere in their 30s and 40s. How-ever, through the work of the following charity, those diagnosed are being helped daily and the foundation has been able to work towards finding a cure.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the world’s leader in research for this disease. This non-profit’s mission is to develop new drugs to fight the disease, improve the quality of life for those with CF, and ultimately to find a cure.

How can my club help save lives from this terrible disease? This foundation is known for its many events such as Great Strides, Fishing Tournaments, Xtreme Hike and more! Search for a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation event in your area and get your club to help out or participate. You can also “can” at sporting events or create your own event to benefit the organiza-tion. Your club can also make a donation to the foundation through their website. To learn more please visit www.cff.org or contact your Lieutenant Governor.

It’s like RTCs all over again...

Hello Key Clubbers of Division 17! Every fall, students from around the state of New Jersey attend Key Leader and learn valuable skills about becoming a better leader. Throughout the weekend, students participate in unique ice breakers, fun group activities, and a challenging ropes course requiring teamwork to pass it. Between the family meals and workshops, you will be able to get more feedback from other clubs, as well as information that Key Club International created for education in ser-vant leadership, which is a type of leadership focused on the team rather than the officers. You will not only leave this weekend making 60 new friends, but also fain new tips and tricks you can bring back to your home clubs for improvement. It will bean experience that you will not be able to stop talking about! This year’s Key Leader will take place from December 5-7 and will cost $200 for regular students. For New Jersey Key Clubbers, it will cost $140 due to a scholarship provided by Key Club International and New Jersey Founda-tion. If you are interested in attending the Key Leader “filter by” and selected State and proceed to click on New Jer-sey. If you need further assistance in registering, visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXNOY4CTqds. We hope to see everyone at this year’s Key Leader weekend!
