Time to Start a New Year!
Aprils coming to a close, and Im sure many of you know what that means. The
end of one Key Club year
and the beginning of a new
one!
Now youre probably wondering who in the world
is sending you this colorful
newsletter. Allow me to
introduce myself. Im Katherine Lauer; your new
Lieutenant Governor! What
exactly is a Lieutenant
Governor you ask? A
Lieutenant Governor is a
liaison between the clubs in
their Division (ours being
Division 12) and their District
(the Texas-Oklahoma
District). In other words if you
ever have a problem with
your club or just want to talk,
Im your girl!

Heres a little bit about me:
I go to San Angelo
Central High School, and
along with acting as
secretary for my school's
junior class and Key Club
for the past year, I also
serve as my schools French Club historian. In
my spare time I love
singing and playing the
cello and piano.
Now that Ive told you about me, I want to get
to know you! It would be
great if you could email
me a short paragraph
introducing yourself and
telling me all about you.
I cant wait to start off this year with all 5 of
Division 12s amazing clubs! Lets make it a
memorable one!

This year was my first year in Key Club,
and my first year to attend DCON. I love
being a part of Key Club, and going to
DCON made me love it even more. One
of the best parts of convention is getting
to meet new people. Everyone I met was
so friendly and just as excited to be there
as I was. There were so many smiles and
everyone was so positive. The atmosphere
there is amazing, and its awesome to be a part of it. Its great to know that there are so many of us out there that care
about serving our community and making
a difference.
The first night at convention, we
attended the service fair. We saw what
other clubs were doing as their service
projects and presented ours. We all gave
each other ideas for this upcoming years service projects. The next night was the
opening session. Something that really
opened my eyes was our Key Note
speaker, Cory Johnson. His speech was
uplifting and, I think I can say, moved us
all. He was born with Cerebral Palsy but
he has not let it stop him from living life. His
story really touched my heart and it
showed me that anyone of us can make
a difference and we shouldnt let anything stop us from doing so.
On Saturday, was the Leadership Luncheon. There we saw the T-O Quiz
Bowl. Its a trivia game where Key Club members from Texas and Oklahoma
compete against each other. We got to
see Texas beat Oklahoma for the fourth
year in a row! Then we had the Awards
Banquet that night, where we saw the
Talent and Oratory competitions and
awards were given out. Each club
cheered as they heard their name
called for an award. After all that
excitement, there was the Governors Ball which was extremely fun. Everything
ended with the Farewell Breakfast where
we inducted our new District Board.
The convention was definitely a
success and I am really glad I went. The
forums, sessions, and banquets were all
great, informative, and fun. I enjoyed
every second of it and had so much fun
with the members of our club that went.
Attending the convention is something
that I would encourage every Key Club
member to do because I am positive
they will love it. I loved it, and I cant wait for the 63rd T-O District Convention!

How To Help:
Donate Money!
o Hold fundraisers!
o Ask for donations!
Get Involved!
o Spread awareness throughout your community!
Explain to people how to control diabetes and the importance of eating healthy for diabetics.
o The more people that know about diabetes, the more likely theyll donate!
Connect the Ks!: o Dont just tell your Key Clubbers about the DUC Project! Include your local K-family! o Holding Interclubs to promote the DUC Project is a great way to get involved with the rest of
your communitys K-family!
Divisional Project: Got DUC
(Diabetes Under Control) ?
Diabetes affects the lives of nearly 26 million children and adults in this country and
another 79 million with pre-diabetes. If current trends continue, one in three children
will face a future with diabetes. The mission of the American Diabetes Association is
to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by
diabetes.
My goal for this project is for each club to do at least 1
project to promote Diabetes awareness and raise funds
for prevention! This project will take place from April 2011- March 1st 2012 *all information came from the diabetes.org site
