Captains Responsibilities▪ Recruit players to complete team.▪ Attend mandatory captain’s meetings.▪ Submit proper contact information to ensure notification of changes/cancellations.▪ Review rules with team members.▪ Review email on a daily basis to check for Rec Sports communication.▪ Communicate game time/date to players to ensure scheduled games are completed in a

timely manner.▪ Maintain good sportsmanship with team members.▪ Ensure player eligibility in all events▪ Player Must Bring TAMIU Student ID

Sportsmanship• A = Excellent conduct and sportsmanship. Players cooperate with officials and team

members. The captain calmly converses with officials and has full control of his/her team. (4 points)

• B = Acceptable conduct and sportsmanship. Team members show minor dissent that may or may not merit a warning. Team captain exhibits some control over his/her team. (3 points)

• C = Below average conduct and sportsmanship. Team shows verbal dissent towards officials or opposing team that may or may not merit a warning. Team captain exhibits minor control over his/her team. Teams will receive no higher than a C rating. (2 points)

• D = Poor conduct and sportsmanship. Team constantly shows dissent. Multiple instances of poor sportsmanship toward officials and/or opposing team or actions those inflame or provoke. Team captain has little control over his/her team. (1 point)

• F = Unacceptable conduct and sportsmanship. Team is completely uncooperative. Team captain has no control over team. Teams or team members using false identification will receive an F Rating. (0 points)

RulesPlayers and Equipment

• NUMBER OF PLAYERS - 6 players on the court. (minimum of 3)

• Co-rec- Maximum of 3 men and 3 women (minimum of 3 and 1 of each gender)

• ROSTER LIMIT: Maximum 10

• ALL PLAYERS MUST WEAR COURT SHOES

• No Jewelry Allowed.

• Medical bracelets Can only be worn if taped down.

Scoring & Game Length

• SCORING METHOD - Rally scoring

• GAME LENGTH - 45 Minute Time Limit

• Game time is FOREFEIT TIME

• FIRST TWO GAMES - First Team To 25 points is the winner. Games could end 25-24.

• THIRD GAME – First team to 21 points wins set. Teams switch sides at 11 points.

• TEAM TIME-OUTS- 1 Time-Out Per Set. 30 SECONDS (Use or Lose).

• INJURY - The referee may call an official’s time-out.

Choices and Play

• Rock Paper Scissors - The winner takes the serve or choice of playing area. Opposing team chooses option that is left.

• FOR SECOND GAME - Teams shall change playing areas at the end of the first game during the match.

• POSITIONS - Teams set their own serving order

• SERVER - The server shall serve from behind the back end line and shall not touch the line or the floor inside the play area.

• BACK ROW PLAYER - A back row player must contact the ball from below the level of the top of the net within 10 feet of the net. If his/her take off jump is clearly from behind this line, the restriction would not apply.

• RETURN OF SERVE - No SPIKING or BLOCKING a serve is permitted! No double hits by the same player.

Position/playing Co-Rec

• The team shall consist of 3 men and 3 women who shall be placed in Alternateposition on the floor.

• The ball may be contacted only 3 times before it is sent over the net. When more than one player on a team plays the ball, ONE OF THESE HITS MUST BE FROM THE OPPOSITE GENDER.

• For example, 2 males cannot send the ball over the net; AND 2 females cannot send the ball over the net.

• EXCEPTION: it is LEGAL, If the volleyball is hit over the net in one (1) touch. No matter the gender.

• DEAD BALL - A served ball is dead if it: (a) touches the floor, net, or wall/ ceiling (b)passes under the net, or (c) lands out of bounds.

• ALTERNATING SERVE - When the serving team commits a foul, the ball shall be rolled under the net to their opponents who shall rotate one position clockwise.

• SERVING OUT OF TURN - A player shall not serve out of turn. An out of turn service may be called by official or opponent's captain. If this is discovered and verified the points made on this service shall be canceled. If opponents serve before the out of turn service is called and verified, there shall be no loss of points. In either case, player must regain their proper positions before another service.

Net play

• CONTACTING NET - A player shall not contact any part of the net or its supports while the ball is in play. It is not a foul when a player’s hair touches the net, or the force of the ball hit by an opponent pushes the net or its supports into the player.

• REACHING OVER NET - Players in the act of blocking may reach across the net but may not contact the ball until opponent has hit the ball to return it.

Part II

• CROSSING CENTER LINE – Crossing the center line onto the opponent’s playing area will result in a fault.

• Crossing center line will be left to the Officials Discretion

• RECOVERING BALL FROM NET - All net balls are to be played. Service net balls are play-on.

• BALL CONSIDERED CROSSING THE NET - When any part of a ball crosses the net and is then contacted by an opponent, it is considered as having crossed the net.

Part III

• SUCCESSIVE CONTACTS BY A PLAYER – When a player attempts to BLOCK the ball, the first contact with the ball does not count towards the three hits.

• SIMULTANEOUS CONTACTS BY OPPONENTS - If two opponents simultaneously hit the ball above the net, the player behind the direction of the ball is considered as having touched it last. If the ball falls and touches within the court, the team on the court is at fault; should the ball fall outside, the other team is at fault.

• BLOCKING - Blocking is permitted by any or all the players of the front line only. Any player is considered as having the intention of affecting a block, if he/she places one or both hands above his/her head in a position close to the net in an effort to intercept the ball. No BLOCKING the serve.

Other play

• SIMULTANEOUS CONTACTS BY A PLAYER - When one player contacts the ball with two or more parts of the body at the same instant, it is permitted and considered one hit.

• PLAYING THE BALL - The ball may be hit by any part of the body above and including the waist.

• THREE PLAYS BY TEAM - A team shall not play the ball more than three times before it crosses the net to enter opponent's playing area.

Substitution by rotation

• Players may enter the volleyball game by rotating into the CENTER-BACK position ONLY. For example, after the server serves, then he/she plays that position until the next side-out.

• Can only sub in and out for the same person that set.

• When starting the second or third set subbing for another person is possible.
