Various colors such as red, blue and yellow each carry a different meaning. In our KCC house journal high-light section, we would like to show you KCC’s value and vision by selecting different col-ors each month. Let’s start with Green, color that resembles nature. What comes to mind when you see, hear, or speak out the word, “Green”?Many of you responsively will think of words such as eco, organic and energy saving. This intuition and word associa-tion shows how much our lives and human spirit are bound up with nature, and this deep rela-tionship holds for companies as well.

Environmental management has become a hot issue nowa-days, and fortunately KCC real-ized and acted on its impor-tance at an early stage. KCC possesses a line-up of advanced technologies and products, including eco-friendly building materials, with nearly 100 products earning the Eco-Label Certification.Furthermore, KCC operates special facilities designed to increase energy efficiency dur-ing the production process, and even entire plants have received the Environmental Management System Certification.Let’s take a look at KCC’s envir-onmental management that is now at the forefront of this trend and propelling it to even stronger states.

With a sense of duty to protect the environment and people’s health, KCC continuously endeavors to create one & only products possessing unique functionality. Here are some of KCC’s eco-friendly prod-ucts that reflect our consideration for the environment and people.

KCC’s 5 Eco-friendly Products

Glass Wool NatureKCC’s Glass Wool Nature is to date the most eco-friendly glass wool product ever developed both nationally and internationally. Surprisingly, the binder, which is one of Glass Wool Nature’s essential components, is made from corn. This natural, organic binder is made up of 100% edible carbohydrates, i.e. ingredients that humans can ingest before this binder hardens. Furthermore, Glass Wool Nature is a KCC signature eco-friendly product in that it involves zero hazardous materials in production or as a by-product during manufacturing as well as later when it is applied to actual buildings.

SUPRO Multimel GoldKCC’s SUPRO Multimel Gold is a multipurpose, eco-friendly DIY paint that has received the highest possible HB mark. This product is applicable to various surfaces and materials such as concrete, gypsum board, metal, and timber, whether on walls or fixtures. It exhibits excellent surface adhesion allowing users to modify their spaces in various ways.

Koreseal Line-upSealant used in construction is an elastic, adhesive material that fills up gaps or minuscule cracks that may exist inside of or between building materials being joined together. It is used widely as a finishing material for glass and windows during interior decoration and construction. In 2014, KCC finalized its sealant product line-up based on official uses enumerated by the Health-Friendly Housing Construction Standards. KCC’s product line-up consists of five products: SL907-Premium, SL825, SW9535A, PU9330 and WL9530.All these products have acquired the HB Mark which enforces stringent health friendly housing construction standards.

KCC’s SUP Green & VICENTIThe Green Consumer Network of Korea recently held a test on the safety and eco-friendliness of PVC flooring material. This test discovered that some brands’ PVC flooring material, used in houses and offices, failed to meet safety standards. Meanwhile, KCC’s PVC flooring material met the standards in phthalate plasticizer content. Thus, for its superior surface coating, KCC’s SUP Green have achieved recogni-tion for being eco-friendly. KCC’s interior film KCC VICENTI also has garnered recognition for its eco-friendliness. The Green Consumer Network of Korea conducted a detection test on DEHP, DBP, and BBP, all of which can have negative effects on the human body. The test results conclusively indicate that these detrimental chemicals are totally absent from KCC’s VICENTI, once again proving KCC’s eco-friendliness.

The hottest topic of conver-sation in the 21st century is climate change. All forms of extreme weather occurring around the world tell us pro-tecting the earth from environ-mental pollution is no longer someone else's responsibility but our own. KCC is also work-ing hard in various ways to protect the environment. Let's meet the assistant manager of Environment Management Team Jina Park who is leading this movement.

Environmental GuardianProtecting our Blue Planet Earth!

Assistant Manager of Environment Management Team Jina Park During the last single generation or so, people have considered environmental issues more seriously than ever before and a variety of efforts have been made to resolve these issues. Countries all over the world are promoting resolutions for environmental issues such as the prohibition of ozone-depleting substances and international discussions on regulating greenhouse gases. Because this trend is becoming more common, environmentally friendly strategies from corporations have emerged as key elements. Therefore, KCC has realized early that protection of the environment is a prerequisite to corporate man-agement and has made efforts to take the path of an environmentally friendly corporation faster than any-one else. KCC has invested over 5% of its total sales, 100 billion won, in research and development of envi-ronmentally friendly products since the mid 1980s and has spared no efforts to develop environmentally friendly products and reduce various pollution that occur during plant operation by setting environmen-tally friendly management as the company’s vision.

Environment Management Team, Blooming to Life through CommunicationAt the heart of environmentally friendly management of KCC, there is the Environment Management Team. Assistant manager Jina Park who is in charge of green-house gases says the Environment Management Team organizes data on the quantity of fuel used by KCC and the quantity of waste produced and searches ways to reduce them. Also, the team is responsible of analyz-ing and predicting what kind of influence is made on each department after identifying new environment-related laws and system. In addition, she says the team is also in charge of tasks such as HB mark or green certificate and environmentally friendly certifi-cate of guarantee that are designated by the govern-ment.“I am in charge of managing the greenhouse gas emis-sion based on fuel usage data sent by the employees in charge of environment who are stationed at each plant. Based on such data, I am responsible for the confirmation and management of whether fuel is being efficiently used and whether there are areas that require reduction of greenhouse gases.” Assistant manager Park says environmental manage-

ment is an area she cannot manage on her own as she explained her responsibilities. Work will not be able to progress because it is difficult to set the direction for the future without the help of many colleagues who are working hard onsite. Not only that, relationship with people is very important when carrying out responsibilities of the Environmental Management Team. This is because technical advice is crucial in the reduction of greenhouse gases and such knowledge can only be obtained through the experts in the corre-sponding field. Therefore, it is necessary to not only continuously study technical and legal aspects but also pay close attention to the trends in the industry. This is why, Assistant Manager Park considers always keeping her eyes and ears open very important.

Small Actions that Save the PlanetIPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) which was approved in 2014 warns us that the earth’s greenhouse gas concentration has reached the highest level since 800 thousand years ago. As such, the world has implemented a system that allows corporations to sell and buy excess or shortage of greenhouse gas emission by assigning greenhouse gas emission quota to corporations each year according to the UNFCCC’s Kyoto Protocol, and Korea is also implementing this system since January 1st. “Large-scale reduction at plants is important for reducing greenhouse gases, but I believe small actions from each individual are also a big help. Especially, when I learned that approximately 30 tons of carbon dioxide has been reduced during the last year alone through the computer power saving program that is being enforced as a mandatory requirement through-out the company, I’ve once again realized how impor-tant everyday practice is.” In comparison to the quantity of greenhouse gas reduction by corporations that is measured in tons, reduction methods such as replacement of light bulbs in the office to LED or using elevators less may seem small. However, as the beat of a small butterfly’s wings can create a big stir, reduction of greenhouse gases can be achieved as habits of small and trivial actions in our daily lives gather into a large ripple. Efforts such as this to not take anything for granted seem to be the beginning of KCC’s environmental management.

Thorough quality control and continuous product development are essential in order for KCC’s marine coatings to grow as the world’s best products. We will surely be able to witness KCC’s marine coatings earn foremost global recognition if we build confidence step by step through customized strategies. By Tae-gu Nam / Marine & Heavy Duty Coating R&D Team Ulsan plant

The Secret Path to Step up as a World-Class Marine Coatings Producer

Preconditions of Leading CompaniesWhat are the common factors that leading companies share? First, they create leading technologies through con-tinuous R&D activities. Companies competing for excellence are always creating blue ocean strategies by releasing next generation products through their work to develop leading technologies. What we should emphasize here is that companies of this caliber don’t solely rely on their own self-development abilities. Companies of this class continuously make R&D investments through both internal and external chan-nels, e.g. carry out joint research with academia and related organizations or contract and harness out-standing technologies through outsourcing. The second common factor is operating a firm and secured distribution network that supports and strengthens various product line-ups. For example, in the maritime industry ships and vessels fall into dif-ferent categories based on classifications such as freight and shipping purpose. Accordingly, marine

coatings come in various product line-ups which taken all together cover a wide customer base. Fur-thermore, as ships travel all over the world, they need to have a well established network in order to be sup-plied with these crucial maritime coatings on demand anywhere and anytime as the customers wish. Lastly, first place companies have customer-centered marketing strategies and excellent follow-up manage-ment performance. The core of marine coating mar-keting lies in making a sales inroad into new vessels and planning consecutive strategies regarding main-tenance and repair works. Product quality, brand awareness, price competitive-ness, supply and distribution channels and follow-up management performance are some of the key ele-ments that customers consider when selecting which brand to use. All these elements together build and serve as brand confidence. Thus, creating the world-class marine coatings consists in achieving these elements and building up customer confidence.

Establishing Customer-centered StrategiesThe goal of KCC’s global marine coatings is to accom-plish sales of 800 billion won in a decade. This sales amount will account for 20% of the world’s marine coating market. Considering KCC’s external opportunity factors, tech-nical level and marketing capacity, it needs to build up more capacity in foreign markets especially in China. In particular, it is essential that KCC establish differ-ent strategies customized to each shipyard as each one is influenced by different environments and circum-stances.

Product Renewal and New Product Development at Once!Wanting to overcome severe corrosive conditions present in the maritime environment no matter how great, KCC has focused sedulously on developing highly capable and industry-admired marine coatings, e.g. the anticorrosive coating for water ballast tank EH2350 series and the industry’s first high perfor-

mance polysiloxane topcoat ST1020.Furthermore, eco-friendly products such as solvent-free epoxy coating and a waterborne coating system have been developed and are already being applied in the field and other versions are in laboratory testing. Eco-friendly non-toxic antifouling coating which con-tains no environmental pollutants is also in the R&D stage. As a result of all these considerations, KCC’s marine coating strategy divides largely into market leading product development and competitive product enhance-ment.

Developing World-Class Product as a Survival StrategyKCC’s pursuit of developing world-class products is not just for development but also for the company’s survival. Now is the time we should take lessons from the *Nut cracker situation that Korea faced during the foreign exchange crisis in the past and make every effort in developing KCC into a never-failing company.

*Nut cracker

The Nut cracker situation refers to a crisis where a country gets sandwiched between developing and developed countries. It’s a situation where a certain country falls behind in technological and quality competitiveness compared to developed countries and falls behind in the price competitiveness compared to developing countries.

Due to the expansion of the remodeling mar-ket, the interior film market is also growing. Many types of new interior film products suited to satisfy various customers are entering the market one after another. Let’s find out the trends for the 2015 interior film. By Hee-won Park / Marketing Team

Seung-hee Ko / Design Team

Look out for Interior films in 2015!

want to know about interior films?Lami film is an interior surface finishing material which falls into two types including adhesive-type decoration sheet and glue-type interior film, accord-ing to whether the film has a gluing agent or not. Generally, adhesive has a very strong adhesion perfor-mance as it hardens from a liquid state into a solid state. Meanwhile, a gluing agent refers to a sticky sub-stance which can stick on and off easily. As a result, one big difference between a decoration sheet and interior film is workability. In the case of decoration sheet, experts must work at the manufacturing and construction companies them-selves so that they express different surface textures by sticking films directly on the raw material surface. Being on site is critical. But in case of interior films with gluing agent adhered on the reverse side, experts can apply these films straight away at the interior site. These two categories of surface films also differ in design. While most deco-ration sheets come in wood patterns, interior films come in various and extensive product lines spanning a wide array of textures including wood, fabric, mar-ble, metal and many more.

Interior film was firstly developed in Japan in the early 1990s and was introduced to Korea in the late 1990s. Since then, it has won fame as a finishing mate-rial with such excellent workability that it even substi-tuted real wood products which is expensive, vulnera-ble to humidity and sunlight, and lacks effective con-structability.

Interior film enjoys its new golden age!The demand for interior film is increasing as the inte-rior trend of the housing market is transforming the market from building new buildings to remodeling existing buildings. The interior film market is greatly tied to the state of the domestic economy because these films are widely used as finishing materials for non-residential com-mercial facilities, franchised stores (such as restau-rants and banking facilities), public institution, etc. Therefore, the interior design market is slightly expand-ing every year along with the recent rise of GDP with the domestic economic recovery. Eco-friendliness is another factor that customers look for in interior films regardless of the high price as interior films are commonly used in child-care facili-

ties and hospitals as well. Last January, the Green Network in Korea commis-sioned and the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL) conducted a test on the phthalate-type plasticizer con-tent and physical properties as a way to target eight interior film products sold in the Korean market. The analysis result showed that KCC VICENTI had zero detectable amounts of all three phthalate-type plasti-cizer contents. Since then, the demand for products with eco-friendly certification has increased all the while with eco-friendly and safe products getting more and more limelight.

Interior film styles for 2015As interior film settles in as the major element for home interiors, more and more customers are looking for trendy products to spruce up their interiors. In response, interior films with a modern base design that goes well with any concept and products with real-istic textures to express nature started showing up.It is expected that in 2015 four types of interior style according to different image scales are most poised to lead the market.

First is the Sweet Minimalism style. With the mixture of soft, straight-grained wood patterns - which is apt for small spaces - and creamy white tone colors, it cre-ates a neutral atmosphere. Also, by highlighting with sweet bright macaroon col-ors, this style is gaily and neat at the same time. Second is the Urban Romance style which is popular for styling mid-sized spaces. This modern style interi-or concept creates soft and calm atmosphere. In this style, you can see modern colored and wood patterned films as well as matte textured marble interior films. Moreover, you can create a modern style atmosphere by using metal-type interior films. Third is the Mix and Match style which goes well with houses of any size. Foremost to this design concept, drastic color contrast gives a strong impression. This style mostly consists of white and dark grey tone col-ors where these monotone colors form the back-ground. Then unique textures are highlighted through artificial leather and marble patterned products.Last is an interior style that emphasizes naturalness. Wood and fabric patterned films are used to express nature’s comfort, and the color saturation is lowered to create a soothing, luxurious atmosphere.

Natural color and texture Wood patterned interior film was included in the construction of the storage closet of Pyeongtaek Songdam Hillstate.

Eco-friendly products KCC VICENTI was constructed on the walls of Sejong major city model house. Just as in this model house, you can relax and use KCC’s prod-ucts with eco-friendly certification anywhere and anytime.

Interior film styles for 2015 Styles such as ‘Urban Romance’ and ‘Hooked on Dandy’ that emphasize comfort while creating a modern and calm atmosphere are popular.

You don’t have to rely on interior experts anymore as you directly have the power to beautify your house with this interior film. With just a little bit of attention, it becomes easy to witness interior films used in every nook and corner around us. Interior films trick us often. For example, a floor attract-ing the eye like a real wooden floor turns out to be a wood-patterned inte-rior film. Likewise, tile with multi-colored, marble swirls sounds hallow when tapped. Not just the visual pattern but the addition of grainy texture, as an extra dimension, strongly convinces everyone at a casual glance that this film is the actual wood or marble. As another advantage, this interior film is pli-able and workable as users can just stick it like a sticker. Plus, it can be attached to various objects and locations to transform them into the desired style.KCC VICENTI consists of five product line ups according to design. These categories include “Wood”, “Special Finish”, “Metal/Abstract”, “Leather” and “Solid”. Whereas each category line-up exhibits special features, the “Wood” line-up is especially realistic as it gives a nearly interchangeable impression with seeing and touching real wooden products. Meanwhile, for the “Metal” line-up, the key point is to express a visual depth and richness along with some fine texture that mimics the sheen and reflective qualities of metal.

KCC VICENTI products come in a variety of choices that customers can choose from.Anyone can create their own interior with wood-type, metal-type and many other film types that exhibit an assortment of patterns and textures simulating authenticity.

KCC’s Interior film VICENTIMake the right choice for your house!

At times when you just get fed up with your current interior or even detect scratches and flaws with your furniture, you might get stuck deliberating whether to upgrade or just tolerate the state of things. But from now on, you should consider taking another option. KCC’s interior film VICENTI creates changes and enhancements by just layering over desired parts. It is as simple as sticking the film to the surface. By Sang-hyun Park / Asan-Lami Technology Section

Uninformed use of raw materials and unrestrictedly increasing the amount of an ingredient serves as a hit-or-miss, and therefore dangerous, product development strategy.Furthermore, eco-friendliness is another critical factor as interior films normally are used in places where people breathe. Generally, plastic or plasticizer is used when manufacturing an interior film, but KCC VICENTI is made from materials that contain hardly any harmful chemicals. An analysis, as commissioned by the Green Network in Korea and tested by the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL), has scientifically examined the interior film products sold in Korea for their degree of phthalate-type plasticizer content and other chemical properties. This scientifically vali-dated and independently verified test concluded that VICENTI has zero detectable amounts of all three phthalate-type plasticizer contents. We are proud of our scientific engineering for the sake of our customers’ health and home enjoyment. While the number of new buildings in Korea is decreasing, the need for building maintenance is increasing, thus expanding the interior film mar-ket. Plus, the DIY boom is attracting more and more interior film custom-ers. In online communities serving home-interior interests, people upload pic-tures and stories detailing how they have creatively utilized interior films such as transforming an outdated refrigerator into a sophisticated looking one by attaching the metal-type film or transforming a worn interior by attaching marble-type to add a luxurious feel. With KCC’s interior film VICENTI, you can create your own interior beau-tifully without too much effort or big money.

For these nearly magical effects, KCC has focused from planning to pro-duction on endowing true-to-nature curves, patterns, textures and other features into these films.KCC is continuously experimenting and testing its film in order to attain various textures from splendidly glittering to gentle and luxurious.

The Optimum Technology that Completes Every InteriorBased on function, there are two types of KCC VICENTI products: flame-resistant and non flame-resistant. Non flame-resistant products are less expensive and have better adhesion performance. In contrast, flame-resistant products can withstand fire to a much greater degree. As regulated by law, restaurants, public facilities and accommodations must use flame-resistant products. Likewise, homeowners overall are increasingly selecting flame-resistant products as an extra safeguard. Proper material mix in the ratio and type of ingredients and advanced, flame-retardant technology are the key components for powerful flame resistance.

Fully Equipped with Workability and Stability, “VICENTI”Since 2006, Sense Top has solidified its place in Gun-ja-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, which is called the mecca of interior films. Sense Top has showcased KCC interior film VICENTI to interior installation compa-nies and general consumers, and furthermore, it is in charge of installation work as well. The leader of Sense Top, CEO Tae-min Lee, has personally accumulated experience and knowhow at interior installation sites 10 years ago. At the time when people recognized the interior material as sheet paper even before having the concept of interior film, CEO Lee noticed the supe-rior quality and unique design of KCC interior film’s value and began the distribution business. The ability to steadily acquire regular customers for the next 9 years and maintain the company’s position up to now is by far the superiority of the product.“The reputation of VICENTI’s workability is already

well known. Because of its excellent adhesive ability as well as the softness of the material, it can be installed easily and conveniently by anyone. Its patterns are also more noticeable than brands from other compa-nies. Subtle variations are inserted to create diversity even for the patterns among the same wood-type pat-tern. Vivid color and surface texture are also its advan-tages. Above all, safety is very important because inte-rior design is directly related to healthy living. Because VICENTI is an interior film that has been applied with environmentally friendly plasticizer, customers can purchase them with confidence.”CEO Lee tells us the number of customers that visit his business has increased since people have begun to know about the safety and environmentally friendli-ness of VICENTI. The analysis result on the phtha-late-type plasticizer content and physical properties targeting 8 interior film products sold in the market, which was commissioned by the Green Consumer Network in Korea and tested by the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL) last year, showed VICENTI’s superior quality by receiving suitable scores in all of the test criteria, and this have been made widely known. The secret to Sense Top’s growth is not only quality. CEO Lee incorporates his exceptional insight and experiences accumulated through many years on-site in his management. He passes on the skills to the cus-tomers who purchase the products. In particular, he is happy to share the knowhow and advice so that gener-al consumers can easily install the products them-selves. He also puts in a lot of effort in attaining prod-ucts of various patterns by quickly catching onto the trends in the interior industry, which is to increase customer satisfaction by providing a wider selection for the customers in consideration of their preferences and individual needs.

Trust × Passion, the Law of Coexistence that Bears Success“Majority of customers who have previously bought

“Sense Top” which has firmly positioned itself as the representative distributor of KCC inte-rior film for the past 9 years is on a winning streak by partnering with the KCC interior film brand VICENTI, which has secured superior quality and pattern. CEO Tae-min Lee places pursuit of customer satisfaction with KCC as one of the most important forces that will lead to growth.

Win-Win Together! Success Ripens with Faith

KCC Interior Film Distributor, “Sense Top”

VICENTI revisits the store in many cases. I think it’s because of the satisfactory quality as well as the prod-uct’s perception as a trustworthy product. Although we are not operating a special promotional website or SNS, customers leave good comments on product quality and customer service on the location search page of the portal site. A single line of comment is tre-mendously rewarding to me. It makes me think about what I need to do to improve customer satisfaction even more.”Customer satisfaction is created together. Because of this, CEO Lee emphasizes the importance of partner-ship with KCC.“I sometimes call my customers and ask their opinion. Because they are the ones that directly use the prod-ucts on-site, they can pinpoint areas that need to be supplemented. Also, when I communicate my opin-ions on pattern development and quality improve-ment with the sales department, KCC actively reflects them as well. When I see KCC making collaborative efforts beyond just selling products, putting my trust in KCC comes natural.”Sense Top proposes the requests of the customers and KCC listens to the opinions of its affiliates. Synergy of creating better products and improving quality stems from the productive communication from the two partners. This is the key to creating a brighter future for Sense Top and KCC who are leading future growth with learning and considering attitude based on such trust.“Sense Top is the oldest distributor of KCC interior films. So, we are that much more proud and affection-ate about the products. Not only the increase of sales but making the excellence of VICENTI widely known is our first goal and dream. Sense Top will also make the best efforts so that VICENTI can steadily increase its base and become the leader in the industry!”Sense Top and KCC has sustained their relationship for a long time through unfailing trust. Their special partnership and synergy will not falter over time but grow stronger.

Home is a place to relax and relieve stress. However, one survey, explaining the urban complexities of Seoul, points out that 83% of Seoul residents live in apartments and 88% of these city dwellers are stressed by noise between floors. As a result, 35 conflicts on average occur every day in the metropolitan area. Noise between apartment floors is such a hot issue today that even consulting groups, comprised of noise measurement experts, professors, and conflict mediators, have aris-en to deal with this concern.

Surpassing the Structural Limit Apartment residents cannot be 100% free from noise from adjoining residences even when behavior on all sides is very considerate. Houses built with “wall construction type” where the wall itself sustains the weight of a building face the most problems regarding noise between floors.

KCC SUP SORI HUE’s high technology derives from the triple layer of cushions that assuages noise concerns.

Your home’s flooring is the number one source of home comfort. The feeling of relief that you get when you take off your shoes and the freedom to walk around the house with bare feet together make a gratifying experience. These are not the only two joys that KCC SUP SORI HUE enhances for residents. By taking away the worry of noise between floors and the danger of toxic materials, kids and adults can their comfort at home. By Sung-joon Cho / Asan-Flooring R&D Division

Plus, the materials are eco-friendly, such as strictly using non-phthalate plasticizer, which thus adds peace of mind to Korea’s home-cen-tric and sedentary lifestyle. In particular, KCC SUP SORI HUE has earned the honor of the Healthy Building Material Mark and other environment friendly certifi-cation from the Korea Air Cleaning Associa-

More than just a flooring material Nowadays, flooring material means a lot more than just a finishing material that covers up a cement floor. It is becoming one of the most important building materials that takes account of and promotes residents’ harmoni-ous and healthy living. To this end, KCC is currently developing vari-ous functional flooring materials including KCC SUP GREEN and SUP BLUE with anti-bacterial functions, KCC SUP AUK containing natural jade, KCC SUP CHUNGAHRAM and SORI HYANG with softer surface texture and KCC SUP SORI SUN and HUE with improved cushion function and sound insulation perfor-mance to improve customer satisfaction.

Although wall construction type has the low-est construction cost and can fit more house-holds compared to other housing structures in the same land area, it suffers the negative side effect of noises reverberating and spreading from residence to adjoining residence. However, flooring material that is soft and pli-able to absorb the brunt of various actions and noises can solve the structural limit of wall construction type houses. This situation of urban density coupled with the structural shortcoming of apartment construction prev-alent in Korea forms the background of KCC SUP SORI HUE’s release.

As competition is cutthroat in their own domestic market, many Korean companies are now focusing on increasing their number of foreign branches by expand-ing into overseas markets. In particular, with the growth potential of the Chinese market with its population reaching almost 1.4 billion, expanding to this market especially has become an important task and a golden opportunity for compa-nies around the world. Considering these factors, KCC established foreign branches around the world including China, Singa-

As expanding to overseas markets has become the hot topic of 2015, members of the Technical Service Department at KCC have recently seized the spotlight by having been newly established to support KCC’s entry into the global market. Let’s have a look at their aspirations and ambitions!

KCC Makes its Genuine Step into the World!

Technical Service Department pore, Vietnam, India, Turkey, the UK and etc. and has been strenuously working to increase its world market share. So naturally once the foreign branches were set up, the needs of effective communication between foreign branches and the HQ in Korea became ever more important. There were frequent requests for HQ’s technological support and assistance. In such cases, related departments in HQ handled the request each time. However, when urgent requests for assistance were received by HQ, there was a lack of backup system to effectively handle the duty quickly. To solve this problem, KCC established the Technical Service Department so that it can take full charge of and focus on technical support related duties.

KCC’s Driving Force of Foreign Market InvasionThe main role of the Technical Service Department is to expand KCC’s overseas market by coordinating and connecting technologies between foreign branches and HQ and thus contribute to sales profit. The Technical Service Department has three sectors including paints for metal service, paints for plastic service and paints for heavy duty and metal service. The paints for the metal service sector provide techni-cal and material advantages for the industrial coatings needed for such key technologies as automobiles, home appliances, Pre Coated Metal, general industrial

use and etc. In the other division, paints for the plastic service sector provide technical and material advan-tages for automobiles’ structural and finishing materi-als and the plastic materials found in overall indus-tries. Finally, the paints for the heavy duty and metal service sector provide technical and material advan-tages for ship, plant and container related technolo-gies. Every member in this department has work experi-ence in foreign branches because direct on-site expe-rience and knowledge about particular local environ-ments abroad and foreign markets is essential for these pivotal workers to provide foreign branches with what they really need.

Wherever and Whenever! All members of the Technical Service Department expeditiously share issues that occur within the for-eign branches directly to HQ. These members take business trips, send dispatches, and make conference calls as well as examine, assess, and recommend products and technologies that the for-eign branches need. Dealing with complaints is another main duty. Moreover, they not only deal with technologies but also support the promotional and sales activities of the for-eign branches. Later on, this department is going to conduct promo-tional outreach, manage data analysis and response in regards to customer complaints, as well as train and educate the workers for top tier service. Handling all of these tasks is definitely not easy and especially requires a lot of professional knowledge and hard work. So it’s only natural for members of the Technical Service Department to always pay sharp attention to world economic trends and issues through various methods, e.g. vigilantly study related publica-tions, search the internet and establish rapport with customers. Internally, the members shall continuous-ly interact with each technical and sales sector by par-ticipating in technical exchange gatherings or busi-ness meetings.

The Link between HQ and Overseas branchesIn a company, departments are organically connected with one another. But for the Technical Service Depart-ment of KCC, co-operation with R&D and the technical and overseas branches is especially important because it plays a role of coordinator that strengthens commu-nication between HQ and the overseas branches. Members do not simply convey valuable information but voluntarily conduct foreign market research and make proposals beforehand. They believe that treat-ing overseas branches as our customers and thinking in their shoes will result in gaining their trust. Additionally, executive Sang-kook Han has explained, “If you sincerely study what the customers need and treat them accordingly, every customer will open up their minds.” The Technical Service Department has been putting KCC’s company motto, “Own your position” into action by actively and spontaneously handling their jobs. Let’s look forward to their efforts to bear abundant fruit and shine even more brightly in the future.

Keyword 2. Support

Technical Service Department focuses on providing foreign branches with technical support related duties to expand KCC’s overseas market.

The Technical Service Department not only deals with technologies but also supports the promotional and sales activities of the foreign branches.

From February 26th to March 2nd, Korea’s largest building material exhibition “2015 Gyunghyang Housing Fair” was held at KINTEX in Ilsan City. The exhibition, which introduced all types of materials related to building-such as furniture, home interior, construction tools, window materials, and heating and air conditioning ventilation equipment materials-be-came a place where the latest trends in the construc-tion industry was shared as it was participated by over 590 companies and 180 thousand experts and public.

Sensible Interior Presented by 24 SpacesKCC prepared the largest exhibition and presented the latest interior trends at the Gyunghyang Housing Fair. The HomeCC Interior Exhibition that was deco-rated under the slogan, “Shopping for space with inte-rior packages!”, attracted a lot of attention by going beyond the previous method of introducing products through one model house but preparing a spatial package that is decorated with flooring material, wall-paper and furniture customized to each concept. Rather than the method of ordering/manufacturing fur-niture or flooring material to match a space, this method enabled customers to create a sensible and comfortable space more easily by shopping a space by each concept that is proposed by KCC’s interior designers. The new 2015 package of HomeCC Interior showcased through the exhibition comprised of 3 types, which were modern-styled Trendy that attracts customers who seek youthful trends in proportionately small to mid-sized furniture, semi-classic-styled Soft that adds classic elements to kitchen furniture and lighting, among others, and Organic that expresses the sensa-tion of nature’s warmth in proportionally mid to large-sized furniture. In the exhibition, over 360 items were introduced in 24 spaces that were created with the 3 concepts, and the most appealing point was that the spaces of each style such as bathroom, bedroom, living room, and

kitchen have been arranged in parallel. This was to allow the visitors to compare and contrast each interi-or package at a glance. In addition, KCC raised the quality of the interior by exhibiting the best built-in home appliances in kitchens according to each style by partnering with Samsung Electronics. The window and flooring materials received the most attention at the HomeCC Interior Exhibition this year. In particular, the showcased divided window was a product that used laminated glass, and it was able to kill two birds with one stone by resolving the issues of less appealing exterior appearance of a house and securing viewing area because the product does not require a railing unlike the existing products that required extra space for exterior railing. KCC’s flooring material KCC SUP SORI HUE also attracted big attention as it not only reduces the noise between floors by using dual flooring manufacturing process but also enables safe use as the product does not emit harmful chemical formaldehyde.

One-stop Service from Quotation to Installation ConsultationThe questions that most people ask themselves when walking through the sensational 24 spaces created at the HomeCC Interior Exhibition are “Would this kind of interior be possible at my house?” and “How much would it cost?” KCC realized such needs of the cus-tomers and allowed the customers to check the prod-ucts and quotation at the same time by writing the specific prices at the top of the spaces’ entrance and on products. Not only that, KCC set up a one-stop ser-vice at the end of the exhibition where contract for construction and A/S as well as free quotation are possible. This service received great response from the customers from the fact that it provided realistic infor-mation for customers by providing a consultation ser-vice with the stationed employees of KCC headquar-ters.

Many viewers showed great interest in built-in home appliances in kitchens according to each style.

HomeCC Interior offered visitors one-stop service where they could receive interior price estimates and consulting services all at once.

Sometimes words that are so simple contain the deepest truths. “Own your posi-tion” are words that form a simple sentence, but its implications are deep. We need to carefully think about the meaning of owning our positions first if we are to create company where we can trust each other through truths rather than lies, and love rather than hypocrisy. By Sung-yong Kwak / Executive director of CRI Inorganic Research Center

Becoming an Owner of your Position, Easy yet Difficult and Prudent

To implement vision into practice and communicateIn the book “Hon Chang Tong”, which was introduced through the company journal not long ago, the secret to all successes and achievements contains the 3 common keywords Hon, Chang and Tong. Hon is the dream, vision and conviction. It is to have a clear sense of purpose about one’s work and a sense of vocation to fulfill a meaningful work. And the effort to create actual result by putting this belief into practice is Chang. Dreams don’t come true without an effort. It is the culmi-nation of hard work and practice through patience and close attention. It is the effort to get out of comfort zone and bring innovation and the effort that creates something new by overthrowing the familiar. Lastly, Tong is the communication with each other. Wouldn’t you agree that understand-ing others by carefully listening to their words and acknowledging others with opened hearts are what we really need?If we build a culture that respects diversity, we will be able to cultivate great workplace that maxi-mizes individual’s potentials and distinctiveness.

Reform into the likeness of a proactive ownerNo matter what type of work we may be engaged in, it is important to keep a united spirit and say “we did this despite of ~” rather than “we were not able to do it for some reason” when we encounter problems.I also think the spirit of an owner becomes truly complete when you equip yourself with the dogged persistence to ‘finish a given task under no circumstances’ and ‘push to the end’. There are many unpredictable variables that are threatening the business environment such as the recent issues concerning FTA agreement with China, risk in KRW exchange rate and environmental regulations like carbon emission trading. The way we can overcome and not succumb to the chal-lenges we face in this difficult business environment is for everyone to reform into the likeness of a proactive owner and properly understand the role given to them in the current position and put them into practice. With the change of thought comes change in action and change in action brings change in para-digm. I think it will be valuable to ask yourself if you are taking the lead in your work and life as a true owner of your position so that you may renew your mentality.

Owner who keeps the principles of one's positionThe author of the book “Start with why”, Simon Sinek, advises us to think and act in the order “Why How What” in order to move people’s hearts and achieve our goals. First, define why you are in charge of your position and why you must do this work. Then, you should observe whether the meth-ods are reasonable during the process of putting the tasks into practice, and finally, what is being done and what the result is.Eventually, whether we are pursuing a new work or maintaining an existing work, we must remem-ber that we can achieve our ultimate goals when we are faithful to our role unique to each phase of tasks from the design of concept to the execution, inspection and transfer of work while putting it into practice in line with the principles. I believe this is the true likeness of an owner of one’s position.

Truths permeating in ordinary sentencesA language unleashes true power when it contains common sense and truth in simple and ordinary sentences. The sentence “Own your position” is much like this. It is just an ordinary sentence with-out any provocative statement, drastic words or colorful figure of speech. It literally means to give the best efforts and take full responsibility at one’s position at work, but I can feel the sincerity that permeates within this sentence. With long experience in various workplaces, I was able to realize that the true meaning of “my position” and “owner” are not just about my duty but refers to every-thing that concerns me as a person.Owning your position is not only talking about the authority and responsibility that come with the one’s position at work. It is being in charge of all the tasks that are conducted at one’s position. And if you are an owner of your own work, you must act in consideration of future situations rather than immediate profit by resolving all types of situations through a democratic process that can assemble all members together to share opinions with respect for all. You must break away from the ingrained habit and make drastic changes if there are problems, thus shape such experiences into a future cor-nerstone for building the company’s asset. In other words, the owner of one’s position is the princi-ple agent that implements righteous management into practice to keep fundamentals and common sense intact.

Product of the Spirit of Samurai,

Japanese Chopstick Manners

In Korea, you don’t necessarily have to be good at using chopsticks to eat well. The most you will encounter if you are not able to use chopsticks well is a bit of scolding. However, in Japan it is a com-pletely different story. We will be examining the Japanese chopstick culture which is the basic man-ners with concerns to others dining with you, as well as the product of the spirit of Samurai.

Dining Manners Originating from the Samurai CultureJapan is part of the cultural area along with Korea that uses chopsticks, but different from Korea where metal chopsticks are used, they use wooden chopsticks. This is partly due to difference in culinary cultures, where Korea uses metal chopsticks which is beneficial against the plethora of preserved foods and stews, while Japan uses thinner wooden chopsticks that are sharper towards the bottom for easier bone picking when eat-ing fish. As with the use of different type and material of chop-sticks, there are differences in dining manners. Japa-nese usually hold the rice bowl or soup bowl when dining, which originated from the dining traditions of the Samurai. Samurais believed it was degrading to bow when dining, thus dined with their backs straight while holding the bowls. There are also belief that the Samurai dined with their backs straight in order to stay alert of their surroundings. Such sense of duty and pride of the Samurai have been directly projected into the Japanese strict dining cus-toms. As noted in <The Book of Five Rings> by Miya-moto Musashi, who is also known as the sword mas-ter, “Understand the logic of the heaven only with the sword and live life by the sword. The only thing I believe in is the sword”, Samurais always had their sword with them and believed it was their duty to show respect to their swords. Such customs developed into showing respect with chopsticks which signifies the sword, and their dining manners have also evolved to use their chopsticks with such intent.

Taboo within Japanese Dining MannersUnlike Korea, where spoon and chopsticks form a pair, Japan mostly uses chopsticks. They only use spoons when they eat dishes that cannot be eaten with chopsticks, such as porridge, steamed egg, omelet rice, curry rice or fried rice. When they eat noodles, they drink the soup along with the noodle and when they only want to drink the soup, they hold the stock with the chopstick. As a result, it is not considered rude to make loud noises when eating soup dishes, but it is against etiquette to mix rice with soup.

There are few more etiquettes related to chopstick use in Japan. Some that do not differ much from Korea, are sticking the chopsticks in a bowl of rice, piercing food with chopsticks, tapping on the table or bowls with chopsticks or digging up food with chopsticks are against etiquette. However, there are also few that could be easily dismissed. One may be moving food from one chopstick to another. This is very taboo in Japan because it is similar to the practice where a corpse is cremated then moved to an urn using a chopstick like tool. Another practice that is against etiquette is placing the chopsticks on a plate or hold-ing the chopsticks and hesitating for a long period of time. When one must put down their chopstick, they must place the bottom part of the chopstick on the chopstick holder.

Useful Etiquette

1. Unlike Korea, you may pour drinks with one hand, but you must also pour the same amount in your cup. You should never use one cup for multiple people and you do not have to toast every time you have a drink.

2. When visiting someone’s house or work it is very rude to visit empty handed in Japan. When you present a gift it is always good to give presents that are in even numbers, but avoid the number 4, as it is believed to bring misfortune.

3. Avoid staring at someone when engaged in a conversation as it is believed to be very rude. Instead, in Japan it is very impor-tant to agree enthusiastically, so frequently use “Is that so?” or “I see”.

Temptation of the Sweet StrawberriesOn a weekend where the warm spring sun and the cool breeze were warming our hearts, General Manager Dong-hyun Cho, his wife Hye-kyung Kim and son, Hwan-hee made way to the Strawberry harvesting and cooking experience located in Kyeong-gi Do Yong-in. There was another little secret that was tagging along on the trip, “Ga-eul (birth name)”, who was still get-ting ready to come out to the new world. “I wanted to offer my wife, who was expecting a sec-ond child, along with our son Hwan-hee, who likes activities, the fresh and delicious strawberries. I’m very excited that we have been presented such an opportunity. I submitted my application so that we could go out on a family outing together. I wish every-one would have a great time.” Mrs. Kim displayed her anticipation while noting “I’ve only been able to eat vegetables and fruits due to morning sickness, so I’m very excited to try the fresh picked strawberries. Strawberry harvesting is a first for us but I’m sure Hwan-hee and Ga-eul would be thrilled.”The sweet scent of strawberries overwhelms greenhouse. “Mom, the strawberries are hang-ing from above.” Hwan-hee exhibits his curiosity when he sees the unique farming method where the strawberries are grown by hanging from the ceiling. The strawberries the Cho family is harvesting are eco-friendly straw-berries which are fertilized using organic fertilizers. They are very firm while being comparably sweet. Hwan-hee shows his enthusiasm by noting “I will set the best record on this farm!” Now to start the main event strawberry picking.“Mom, I want to pick this.”Busy hands fill up packs after packs of ripe and deli-cious strawberries. Strawberries are best when they are tasted as soon as they are picked. First bite, sur-prises the family with the texture, following another surprise with the full bodied fruit of the strawberries. The family members pick the most delicious looking strawberries, only so that they can have each other try the best strawberries. Mr. Cho and his family are very delighted when they notice the packs full of strawberries.

Hoping that every day would be full of sweet happinessThe family moves along to the next program where they can experience cooking the strawberries into var-ious dishes. Mrs. Kim cannot hide her smile when she notices Hwan-hee rolling up his sleeves as if he was waiting for this time to come. “Hwan-hee really enjoys the cooking show <Little Chef>. He seems very excited given that he’s very inter-ested in cooking.”The first mission: Baking strawberry roll cake. Flatten out the sponge bread then spread strawberry jam, fol-lowed by thin slices of strawberries. Mr. Cho and Mrs. Kim are very pleased with Hwan-hee, who is immersed in cooking. Hwan-hee presents the completed roll cake. “Hand-made roll cake!”The entire floor is filled with laughter when the little

patissier presents his cake. Every-one gives the cake two thumbs up, when they take a bite of the sweet and soft cake. The second mission: Strawberry canap . The family completed the canap by neatly piling on straw-berries, whip cream and cheese on biscuits, and are filling their fam-ished bellies with the sweet straw-berry dishes with tasting as an excuse. The final menu was straw-berry jam. The prepared strawber-ries slowly fill up the glass bottle, followed by sugar. Once the glass was filled, they were presented with a “Mission Cleared”. “Seeing my wife and kid smiling and having such a great t ime

makes me think that I should create more opportuni-ties like this.”Mrs. Kim noted “It was a very pleasing experience for me and Hwan-hee, who are to-dye-for fans of straw-berries.”“I’ll bake my very own handmade strawberry roll cake when I have a birthday party!”Hwan-hee’s enthusiasm made the family very happy for this experience. The short but meaningful time in the strawberry field had come to an end while experiencing strawberry picking and cooking. Today’s sweet and fragrant expe-rience presented the family with a handful of memo-ries and happiness.

The moment of spring does not wait for anyone. Dong-hyun Cho from the Seongnam Building Material & Product Section and his family headed to the strawberry field to enjoy the nice spring day. Picking and tasting the fresh sweet strawberries with our own two hands, our family was able to create memories sweeter than strawberries.

To the strawberry field during the sweet spring!

frequent meetings may actually interfere with prompt work progress and result in the overload of workload and inefficiency. The author refers to the following as the issues generated from bad meetings. - Decreased work efficiency resulting from meetings

with uncertain subjects or low necessities without conclusions

- Work concentration impediment due to non-sched-uled meetings

- Inefficient meetings without chances to make a statement due to excessive participating number of employees

- Prolonged meetings due to undetermined start and end time of the meeting

- Increase in unproductive tasks due to meeting docu-ment preparation resulting from frequent meetings

- Meetings consisting of direct instructions without any discussions

After reading this book, I had a lot of time to think as the department head in charge of the department responsible for improving the KCC meeting culture. Meetings are, without a doubt, the fruit of corporate culture as well as the source of powerful competitive-ness. Efficient meeting culture will reform the per-spectives and values of the members, and play a sig-nificant role in leading the organization to a certain direction. As such, KCC must also reduce work related stress and time wasted on demanding meetings, while making improvements to form a productive meeting culture. Moreover, all KCC employees must recollect and elim-inate inefficient work practices that have become part of our habits and reinforce the focus required for work. It is a time where all employees must put in a great deal of effort to reconstruct a productive and efficient organizational culture.

The most significant difference between a progressive company and a stagnant company, and a competent manager and those that aren’t comes from how pro-ductive they progress meetings.Meeting is a tool to organize and increase the perfor-mance of a task, as well as a tool to exchange informa-tion. It is also utilized to maximize the dispersed capa-bilities through unification. Remember that meeting is a costly task where time must be invested, and increase the corporate productivity by forming quality meetings which increase efficiency in comparison to the invested time.<Bad Meetings> by Yokoyama Nobuhiro is a book about current corporation’s organizational operation suffocated by excessive meetings. Number of meet-ings in place of work increased concurrent to industri-al growth. Despite the increase in numbers of meet-ings, good ideas or performances resulting from such have not. The author points out that bad meetings are the source of the downfall. The author presents an actual experience he encountered while as a consul-tant for a company addicted to meetings. The company has decreased the time of the weekly meeting to 30 minutes from the initial 4 hours, and altered the occurrence to a biweekly meeting. The result of such change was astonishing. The perfor-mance of employees below managers has significantly increased and the business results have also improved. This experience has become the turning point where the author asserted the idea of “Breaking away from meetings.”This book points out that companies that suggests that meetings are the most important are companies that do not understand priorities. The purposes of meetings are to increase business revenue, improve service and products and improve work efficiency, but

• Hold continuous meetings between different departments to increase communication Hold frequent meetings with other departments to share information and technology while creating synergy to contribute to company productivity.

• Limit the participants in meetings Minimize the number of participants and effectively utilize the resources, while allowing all employees to share the management’s policies.

• Meeting documents must be provided before the meetings Meeting documents must be distributed before the meetings and all participants must be aware of the content of the meeting for prompt deliberation.

• Implement Smart Work to improve concentration during work Avoid unplanned and prolonged meetings and excessive meeting document creation, and set a start and end time of the meetings to reinforce concentration and engagement, while reconstructing a productive and efficient organizational culture.

Contracts & DealsWeather IdiomsA contract to businessmen can said to be the start and end of work. The following is the intro-duction of useful expressions that are necessary before and after contract conclusion, which can be memorized and be used time and again.

Expressions related to weather such as 'heated atmosphere' and 'tidal wave of work' that are com-monly used in Korean language are also used in English. Use vivid sentences through various expres-sions derived from weather.

As this column is the first release of our house journal, English expressions most commonly used by locals have been carefully selected. Give wings to your English ability by using expressions that are just right and jump to the eyes! Reference <1000 English expressions most commonly used by

native speakers>(Susan Tuesday, WINTIMES)

This artificial spider web has double times better elasticity than that of nylon while being stronger than steel of same thickness.

An example of the most similar approach to Spider Man’s spider web is the artificial spider web developed by a Japanese Bio Venture Corporation called Spiber. The company name Spiber is a combination word between Spider and Fiber. The artificial spider web developed by Spiber has twice the elasticity over the nylon commonly used in ski suits and is stronger than steel of the same thick-ness. It uses Fibroin, which is a silk protein derived from a cocoon, thus is decomposed by microorgan-isms once disposed and is very eco-friendly. More-over, the color can be easily altered by coloring the protein of the fiber. After successfully developing artificial spider web, Spiber plans to use the new fiber in the body of auto-motive as well as in tires, and is planning on produc-ing over 20 tons of artificial spider webs in their new factory. CEO of Spiber, Mr. Sekiyama notes “Using the artificial spider web on automobiles will lighten the weight of the cars resulting in better fuel efficiency. Also, in the occurrence of an accident, the artificial spider web will absorb the impact on the car to lessen the injuries resulting from the accident itself.” The weight of the artificial spider web is only a quarter of the weight of steel, and is approximately 40% lighter than carbon fiber used in the body of the cars, while being very durable. It is anticipated that this new arti-ficial spider web will bring about some innovative changes to the future automotive market. If we must compare the value of Spider Man’s spider webs with the artificial spider web, we can assume that the artificial spider web would have the upper hand. The reason being, spider web in the movie is only used to defeat the villains, whereas the artificial is eco-friendly while having so much more potential use.

“You can fly even without wings!” There were many praises and compliments when the movie <Spider Man> premiered. Spider Man’s gliding act depending only on a single thread of line from a New York sky scraper resembled the highest level and most difficult circus act, while the 3D movie made the action jump out from the screen, which made it the most inter-esting movie. Spider Man is strong enough to only depend on his spi-der web to battle the villains in the movie with his life on the line. In <Spider Man 3>, he defeated “Sand Man” who could freely transform his body or float away his body in the wind that was made of sand, and in <The Amazing Spider Man 2>, he defeated “Electro” who threatened Spider Man using thousands of bolts of electricity. Spider Man only has one weapon when he fights against villains with mutated genes; his spider web. Spider Man’s wealth was noted to be at the bottom by <Empire> the British Movie Magazine, which ranked superheroes by their wealth. His only possession was 73 cents, with a very unstable job, given that his day time job being a freelance photographer. Because of his circumstances and lack of income to create new weapons, he notes “I have to use my two fists”. How-ever, is he aware how much people in real life want that unbreakable spider web?

Spider Man’s spider web in reality The story goes where Spider Man, Peter Parker get bit by a super spider on his hand and obtains superhu-man strength, while having spider webs shooting from his wrist to swing between buildings. He also acquires sharp urticating hair from his finger tips to crawl up the side of buildings, which is based on biomimetic or biological mimicry, often used in scientific technology. Biomimetic or biological mimicry refers to the appli-cation of technology inspired by natural phenomenon and the ecosystem. In reality, spiders can float above 3,000m above ground using wind and spider webs to travel. Of the two, biomimetic is often utilized in the field of nanotechnology. In particular, the new fiber industry is limited while encompassing various purposes and types, which makes the market forecasting a bit diffi-cult. However, it is a highly technology intensive indus-try which allows the creation of high value added prod-ucts, resulting in various attempts for new technology. Subsequently, recent research and development trend is noted to be a “carnival of unique fiber technologies”.

Spider Man’s weapon is his one and only spider web. He swings around between buildings and beats up bad guys and does what every hero does. It is evident that Spider Man’s webs have so much more potential beyond defeating villains. In recent years many companies in the fabric industry have been actively researching and developing unique fabrics which are similar to Spider Man’s webs. Spider Man’s spider webs are no longer a thing of the far future.

Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) recently carried out a quality test on twelve major sealant producers including KCC. The result showed that KCC has designed their sealant to minimize vol-ume loss to less than 10% as based on the KS standard. In this test, KCC’s sealant ‘SL907’ proved itself to be the only product able to meet the rigorous KS quality standard. Whereas most sealant producers fail to meet the KS standard, in this test KCC surpassed the standard and proved its outstanding nature of its products and quality control system. Furthermore, whereas other companies obsess only about price competitiveness, KCC concentrates on quality fore-most. As part of its business plan, KCC actively con-ducts a genuine and fixed quantity compliance cam-paign for its sealants, and KCC regularly tests and develops superior quality, eco-friendly products.

Steven Spielberg’s Continue the Sentence Game

Giving wings to imaginations

Steven Spielberg is Hollywood’s most successful film director who has marked a new era in blockbuster movies. He has joined the ranks as a legend with movies such as <ET>, <Jurassic Park> and <Jaws>, and is still showing off his physical condition at the age of 69, by continuously planning and directing various movies. Movies that involved Spielberg often incorporate brilliant imaginations such as befriending aliens or dino-saurs roaming a remote island. The question here is, where does he get such creative imaginations? The secret is in “Continue the Sentence Game”. Spielberg enjoys the ‘Continue the Sentence game’ with his family while they are dining. The game is very simple, where a family member suggests one sentence, which is followed by another. In the meantime, a complete story is completed. Spielberg notes that this game significantly helps in completing the storyline of a movie. Moreover, sometimes absurd stories arise given the criticism free nature of the game, and this plays the role as a catalyst lighting the fire of imagination. If you are having a difficult time coming up with a new idea, try Spielberg’s idea expression method. You never know, you might be the next great storyteller.
