A thrilling experience: (Bhushan & Deepshika- Anchors of Wow Wednesday event) Before taking the responsibility of anchoring I was very shy and less confident. I had stage fear but when I got that opportunity I started working on my confidence and practiced over the same. On the day of Wow Wednesday, I felt a different energy in myself and gave my best in anchoring. Everyone appreciated my hard work and from that day I started feeling different, more confident and my stage fear started reducing. I am thankful to MILE for giving me such a golden opportunity. Deepshikha Gupta, MILE batch 2018-20
It was a great experience while anchoring. I had never done anchoring in my prior education. I was very nervous when my name was announced for the task of anchoring. My English is not so good. I decided to utilize this golden opportunity as I knew it will bring a lot of change in my education at PGDM . Communication skills and English-speaking are important essentials
for management education. I prepared a script for anchoring and then practiced a lot over it. I was hosting the show for a crowd of 100. The audience appreciated my work and I found that I can do it. Now I am very confident about anchoring. I got a good exposure for my career growth.

Friendship Day #Friendship isn't about how much we talk with each other, but it's about how much we stand for each other in time of need. Friendship day was celebrated at MILE campus where MILErs tied bands to each other’s hands taking the oath of a relationship for life - friendship. “Every person has his own destiny but not everyone make the choice to follow it, but we did.”
Friendship is a relationship of mutual affection between people. It has some characteristics like kindness, love, sympathy, honesty, loyalty, mutual understanding, compassion, and enjoyment of each other’s company, the ability to be one, express one’s
feelings to others and make mistakes without fear of judgment from the friend. It is not only for people but it is also reflected among animals. As I am in love with dogs and cats, it is an amazing feeling for me. For us friendship is, “With the blink of an eye, something happens by chance, when we at least expect it” sets a course that we never planned for a future, and we never imagined. Where will it take us? That’s the journey of our lives, our search for the light. But sometimes finding the light means we must pass through the deepest darkness. Friendship is the bond of togetherness if it runs with loyalty, respect and honesty between friends. It’s my destiny that takes me here in MILE, where I get some of my batch mates as my friends with whom I am very comfortable and feel safe which will be the part of my live and start from Management Institute for Leadership and Excellence, Pune. - Sanchiti Jain, 2018-20 batch

What’s going on across the globe?
News around Pune City: (DNA dated 9th Aug,2018) Schools, colleges as well as plants of several companies remained closed on 9th August in Maharashtra's Pune district in view of the bandh called by the Maratha organizations over their reservation demand. Pune District Collector Naval Kishore Ram in an order issued which said there would be road blockades and processions on Thursday and the possibility of stone-pelting on vehicles and arson cannot be ruled out.ws around the state: After heavy to very heavy showers in Mumbai and coastal areas of
Maharashtra as well as in Goa in July, August has been relatively dry. This,
however, could change on Monday (August 13) onwards with private weather
monitoring agency Skymet Weather predicting a monsoon comeback here. The
agency has said that Mumbai could get heavy showers starting Monday with
monsoon activity picking up over Konkan areas and Goa as well. Double-digit
rainfall readings may be observed in coastal Karnataka as well.
News around the nation: The Washington Post: The headline said - Atal Bihari Vajpayee, prime minister who made India a nuclear power, dies at 93. According to The Washington Post, it was the nuclear tests conducted under Vajpayee that “established India as an overt nuclear-weapon state”. The article further talks about Vajpayee’s personal charisma that helped the BJP not just rise to power, but also manage a coalition with several regional parties.
Floods affect Kerala: At the beginning of July 2018, severe floods affected the south Indian state of Kerala, due to unusually high rainfall during the monsoon season. It was the worst flooding in Kerala in nearly a century. Over 483 people died, 14 are missing. At least a million people were evacuated, mainly from Chengannur, Pandanad, Aranmula, Aluva, Chalakudy, Kuttanad and Pandalam. All 14 districts of the state were placed on red alert. According to the Kerala
DON’T LIMIT YOUR CHALLENGES ,CHALLENGE YOUR LIMITS 23
government, one-sixth of the total population of Kerala had been directly affected by the floods and related incidents. The Indian government had declared it a Level 3 Calamity, or "calamity of a severe nature". It is the worst flood in Kerala after the great flood of 99 that happened in 1924. Thirty-five out of the fifty-four dams within the state were opened for the first time in history. All five overflow gates of the Idukki Dam were opened at the same time, for the first time in 26 years. Heavy rains in Wayanad and Idukki have caused severe landslides and have left the hilly districts isolated. The situation was regularly monitored by the Prime Minister, and the National Crisis Management Committee coordinated the rescue and relief operations.
Now to compete: on Vodafone, idea merger In business, especially one as rapidly evolving as mobile telecommunications, a year can be an eternity. So for the Vodafone Group’s Indian unit and Idea Cellular Ltd., which had in March 2017 announced an agreement to merge, last week’s approval of the proposed union by the Department of Telecommunications came not a day too soon. The changes in the industry landscape over the intervening 16 months have been dramatic. The market has contracted marginally in terms of overall subscriber numbers — from 1.17 billion on March 31, 2017, to 1.13 billion at the end of May this year. But the number of competing service providers is set to shrink from double digits to just three privately run large rivals plus state-owned BSNL and MTNL. This consolidation, from the wave of mergers and acquisitions over the last couple of years, was the gain the companies left standing were hoping for.
From more wholesome slices of the customer pie to more bang for the buck in a highly capital-intensive business, the merged entities including Vodafone Idea Ltd. — as the new business will be called — ought to be happy with the way things have panned out. But the situation on the ground is
far from ideal. The intensity of competition has steadily increased since the entry of Reliance Jio, founded by the deep-pocketed billionaire Mukesh Ambani. This has left the incumbents battling furiously to protect their turf with tariff reductions to match the newcomer’s ‘no prisoners’ approach to pricing of its voice and data
DON’T LIMIT YOUR CHALLENGES ,CHALLENGE YOUR LIMITS 24
services. The telecom regulator’s September decision to more than halve the fee that operators pay on cross-network calls has only added to their woes, resulting in a steep and continuing erosion in average revenues per user and margins. The managements of Vodafone and Idea have repeatedly underscored the competitive challenges facing them, with both operators losing customers and the latter awash in red ink. With about 430 million subscribers, Vodafone Idea would vault past Bharti Airtel’s current India customer base of about 345 million to the top of the heap. But this scale that they gain would ultimately count for little if the combine fails to staunch customer losses, and do that without compromising on the business’s viability. The cost of bidding for fresh wireless spectrum is escalating steadily and mobile number portability has made it easier for customers to switch networks in case of dissatisfaction with service quality levels or pricing. The combine will therefore need more than just a few smart ‘ideas’, as Idea Cellular’s erstwhile marketing campaign used to stress, to make a fist of their merger.
Donald Trump Warns Syria, Russia and Iran against Idlib
"Tragedy"
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Monday warned Syria against
launching an attack on the country's last rebel stronghold with the help of Russia and Iran, saying the offensive could trigger a "human tragedy."
"President Bashar al-Assad of Syria must not recklessly attack Idlib Province. The Russians and Iranians would be making a grave humanitarian mistake to take part in this potential human tragedy," Trump tweeted. "Hundreds of thousands of people could be killed. Don't let that happen!"
The United Nations and aid groups have warned that a full assault on Idlib could spark a humanitarian catastrophe on a scale not yet seen in Syria's seven-year-old conflict. Syrian government forces are now massing around the northwestern province of Idlib, which is held by a complex array of rebels and
DON’T LIMIT YOUR CHALLENGES ,CHALLENGE YOUR LIMITS 25
violent extremist fighters, many of whom have been blacklisted as "terrorists" by world powers. Russia and Iran have insisted that extremist groups in Idlib must be defeated and are expected to back regime forces in any assault. Since early 2017, Iran, fellow regime ally Russia and rebel backer Turkey have sponsored a negotiations track based in the Kazakh capital to tamp down hostilities in Syria. Last year, they had designated Idlib as a "de-escalation" zone where violence would halt in preparation for a countrywide ceasefire. All the while seeking to pressure Turkey into reining in jihadists in Idlib, Damascus's main sponsor Russia has been sounding the war drums in recent days. Tehran and Moscow provided steady political, financial and military backing to Assad throughout the war, which has left over 350,000 people dead since it broke out in 2011.The International Crisis Group, a Brussels-based think tank, said an all-out assault on Idlib and its catastrophic consequences could still be avoided. Russia, whose air support would be crucial for the offensive to succeed, should understand that a bloodbath in Idlib would jeopardize its own political goals, according to ICG."By backing an all-out offensive, Russia risks undermining its long-term political objectives in Syria," ICG wrote in a nine-page briefing entitled "Saving Idlib from destruction."

RakshaBandhan Rakhi is all about celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters. Siblings fight, bicker and tear each other’s hair off, but on Raksha Bandhan things take a 180-degree turn. It’s a customary ritual which siblings do willingly and it’s more about the emotions behind it. It is considered as special day to show love to sibling. Sisters, on that day, tied a rakhi or a thread on their brother’s wrist. In return, the brothers promise to take care of their sisters and keep them away from evil. A party was given by Boys to all girls burger and pastry treat as a gift. Girls offered sweets and chocolates to boys. MILE was proud to celebrate Raksha Bandhan.

My journey with excitement!--ChandrakantSingh, Placement Head
Life…has come a full circle. Like others I too started as a student, went on to complete engineering in Computer Science with grades which can be called
decent but with no proper guidance and
placement opportunities had to land in Bangalore in search of a job. I still remember seemingly it was 11th Dec, 2012 and I had landed in Bangalore with a text message from one of my close friends which had his PG’s address in it. Took an auto rickshaw and met him there, at his PG. We were deliriously ecstatic to see each other after almost 6 months; we hugged each other hard and almost cried but could
also feel a sense of disappointment, an efficacy. It was for trying for 6 months in Bangalore and yet not getting a suitable job to start his career with. In fact the day we met, he had again come rejected from an interview. But then he briskly told me about it and asked why don’t you go and give it a try and there the destiny played a role – a key role. The other morning he accompanied me to the bus stop and made me understand the route to the place and the bus which would take me there. It was 12th Dec, 2012 – a day after I had landed in Bangalore with no idea of what kind of job I was looking for, where to go, what to search and what not. I

just knew nothing. But then I reached this organization called “Infinite Computer Solutions” which happens to be a CMM level 5 organization and I was waiting for my turn to come for the interview. It was a walk in drive and trust me walk-in’s are difficult especially when it’s for Engineering applicants. There were hundreds of people waiting for an opportunity, some scared and some very confident. At least with their demeanors that’s what I could make out. It was late in the evening and my friends were not able to reach out to me for obvious reasons as I was asked to submit my cell phone. They were getting tensed thinking where the hell I was. They had no clue that their friend had cleared all the rounds and was wrapping his joining formalities. I was shortlisted in the very first interview of my life. My professional journey had started, though it was into night shifts I went onto work for the same organization for 3 long years. What can one do, they promoted me every year. Yes in I.T. 3 years is considered as long period. Meanwhile I also completed my MBA and went onto work for AXA Business Services which is the Fortune top 20 firm as the HR person, precisely their Talent Acquisition team. After having worked for the top notch firms, an opportunity knocked to be part of a group which had strong vision and wanted to do something really great in educational services. I readily obliged as I always had this in my mind had I got a good mentor or a placement officer in my life, I would have done better. I wouldn’t have to struggle or if my struggle was less I had seen my friends struggle for almost a year in cities like Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, etc and not finding a suitable opportunity. They finally gave up and returned to their hometowns as in some cases they gave up and in few cases their parents gave up on them and stopped the monetary support. They had no option but to return. The fact that I see myself in every student and can relate to them makes me perform my duties easily. Trust me on this, I sleep well that night. Whatever had happened with me and my 2700 friends from the same batch, should never get refashioned again. With whatever experience I could gain and whatever I was exposed to, I am trying my bit and the best to give it back to the society in whatever capacity I can and trust me life indeed has come a full circle…Gung ho…!!

Shuffling people around you!
People spend a lot to attain peace and happiness whether it's through a treat to yourself at your favorite Ice- cream parlor or a long trip to your dream island, keeping up with the busy schedule you need to refresh yourself every
now and then. One practice that's overlooked by many- which is just as important as other form of self- care like exercise, healthy eating, and meditation is actually being selective about the people you choose to keep in your life.Whether you realize or not, the company that surrounds you creates an impact on you in significant ways. Remember, it should be about quality rather than quantity. Create a list every now and then with two columns: "People Who Invigorate Me" and "People Who Deplete Me"; categorize all your friends, co-workers, acquaintances and those you've newly met.
All the people coming under depletion list you should cut ties with instantly because why waste your energy and time on people who don't add up any value to your life?Self-care is all about giving yourself the love and attention you deserve, and often times your mental and physical health will benefit as a result. By extending this way of thinking into your friendships, you'll notice a difference in attitude and how you navigate your days.
- Remember, negativity is contagious. So fill your life with reliable friends who genuinely have your best
interests at heart, cheer for your accomplishments like they're their own, and challenge you to be best version
of yourself.-Trikshala

The pursuit of my PGDM has been a personal goal since I graduated from my previous University. Now that I have begun my life in the corporate, I can honestly say that it has been a challenging, yet very rewarding, duration. Management Institute for Leadership & Excellence’s PGDM program has pushed me out of my comfort zone and forced me to go beyond what I previously thought was my academic limit. Now that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I am more convinced than ever that I made the right decision by going back for my PGDM at
MILE. The curriculum here is rigorous and dynamic that it aids you in shaping yourself even if you cannot. From induction to corporate interactions, and that too on regular basis, so that the zealous students could picturize the understanding of how corporate ecosystems lives. Life at MILE has transformed me into a different individual. Into a person
who can withstand the any intensity of the responsibility. Like my organization
currently I am associated with; it on regular basis wants me to stretch myself
for work engagements. I am now work-driven whatever the task at hand my
organization puts on my shoulders, I ensure from my end that I execute it with
efficiency and no matter what whether it is any occasion, holiday, festival etc.
Once, a student goes out of MILE having passed out, he/she only replenishes
the place where he/she gets taken into manifolds. Reason being, it is not the
individual who does such marvelous job but, rather I would say it is the MILE
that is imbibing in us as an auxiliary to one’s soul.
ONCE A MILEr. ALWAYS A MILEr!!... MILErsROCK !.....

Kerala floods
Over the past week, the entire state of Kerala is in the grip of a massive, unprecedented flood. Huge amount of people died in Kerala floods and there is lot of destruction of natural assets as well as homes.
This is because the state of Kerala has received 37.5% excess rainfall in just two and a half months. As the flood waters recede gradually in Kerala and Karnataka, it is time to introspect on manmade factors that worsened the impact of the unprecedented rain in these two states. The excess of quarrying, construction, sand mining, and unabated tourism can hardly be denied in precisely those reasons of Karnataka and Kerala which have been devastated by the floods. Satellite images confirm the extent of degradation in these
ecologically sensitive areas. The floods of catastrophic dimension that ravaged Kerala recently have brought in sharp focus the all round ecological destruction caused by human interference in states Hilly terrains. The overflowing rivers and the opening of 30 odd filled to the brim dams, equally contributed to the flooding of the plains. The dam’s operators did not release water in advance that leads to release water when the dams were filled up. The India’s Central Water Commission has also been under fire for failing to introduce a flood forecasting system to issue warnings.

One of the worst affected is the main arteries of the state, the Main Central. Many village roads have been badly incarcerated that affects the living and working conditions of people living in these areas. Even schools and other educational institutions have been affected. Kochi international airport has been closed for over a week and the consequent rescheduling of flights have meant not only terrible inconvenience to travelers but also loss of revenue to the airlines. In terms of gross cropped area, the three main crops in the state are coconut, rubber and paddy. Of these, the worst affected are paddy and rubber. One of the worst affected areas in Kuttanad- the Rice bowl of the state, has been home to a number of poultry farmers. The recent floods have affected some of the most important tourist spots located in the districts which are prone to floods.

You may not disagree but in every steps of life there is always a competition in front of you, which convert you feelings in jealousy, negativity or ego. But, what makes people think that they can be better than just that person? From
my opinion, the fact that makes you responsible lies within yourself even you read, you learn, but you forget when the negativity comes in our your mind, sometimes you gets so much desperately that it hampers your mental stability, you become partial, selfish, egoistic and ultimately you cannot think correctly even though you know that you don't just have to be better than only one person, you forget that it is not about showing off, but to be an actual good person.
A friend of mine was recently suffering through anxiety disorder, not just because of the troublesome activities around him, but with the problem of getting over a person who was actually good in his work. My friend wanted to show that he can do better than what the other person did, so he started working over his duties his assignments instead of his own. It all became his priority, he became jealous, insecure and egoistic and the continuous inappropriate thoughts and underachievement lead him towards the psychotic disorders. What do you think? What hasgone wrong? It's obvious that he wanted to be better than a single person instead he could have learned from his own assignments, he could have completed his own work with a grace that no one else can do. He could have focus on a single point instead of focusing on others job. So, it is unfortunate for those who know that gazing the stars is unnecessary you could have shoot for the moon but still gets engaged in such activities and divert their mind is just foolishness. If your competitors are Ambani brothers then focus for beating Bill Gates. You will automatically win over it. So, if you know your goal just put your heart and mind in the right
direction and you don't have to worry about your feet. -Deeparna Dutta
