Bhavan. The previous issue was published during January,
2016.
The present issue gives brief accounts of some of the
important events that the Hon. Governorshri graced during
January, 2016 to 31st March, 2016. It gives details about
the in-house programmes as well as the outside
programmes. Details of a few distinguished visitors who
visited the Raj Bhavan during this quarter are also given.
The present issue contains all the regular features. We
hope that while going through the contents of the In-House
magazine, one would get a general idea about the Hon.
Governorshri's activities inside and outside the Raj Bhavan.
We would like to thank everyone for their whole-hearted

Release of the Sanskrit translation of Mahatma Gandhiji's Book entitled VGF;LsT IMU translated from Gujarati into Sanskrit by Dr. Gautam Patel, a renowned Sanskrit Scholar, at a function organized by the Sanskrit Seva Samiti, Ahmedabad at the Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar (9.1.2016)
Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, released the Sanskrit translation of Mahatma Gandhiji's book named
VGF;LsT IMU translated from Gujarati into Sanskrit by Dr. Gautam Patel.In his brief address to the distinguished gathering on the occasion, Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, observed
that Mahatma Gandhiji's book on VGF;LsT IMU contains his interpretation of the philosophy of Yoga in a very simple and heart-touching language. He further stated that Dr. Gautam Patel had done a great service to the society
by translating it in Sanskrit for the use of the Sanskrit lovers of the present and future generations. He complimented
Uttaranchal Sanskrit University for publishing this book.
The programme was attended by Sanskrit scholars, religious leaders, prominent Gandhians, Sanskrit lovers,
academicians and all others interested in Gandhiji's ideology.
Lohri Celebrations in the Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar (13.1.2016)
The festival of Lohri was celebrated in the lawns of the Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar on 13.1.2016 in the evening. A
bonfire was lit around sun-set and Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri and Smt. Avinash Kohli, Hon. Lady
Governorshri, their family members and the staff members of the Raj Bhavan accompanied by their family members,
worshipped the bonfire. Younger children danced around the bonfire and performed a few garba steps on the
occasion.
Release of the book entitled Kitchen Queen written bySmt. Maya Surana, in the Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar (13.1.2016)
Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, released the book entitled Kitchen Queen written by Smt. Maya Surana at a
function organized by the Anekant Bharati Publication, Ahmedabad, at a programme held in the Raj Bhavan,
Gandhinagar.
While releasing the book, Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, observed that Smt. Maya deserved compliments for
bringing out a book on cooking which would prove to be of a great help to the women folk in preparing a variety of
items in their homes. He appreciated her efforts and expressed the hope that Smt. Maya Surana would continue to
bring out more publications for the day-to-day use of our women folk.
The programme was attended by prominent women activists, culinary experts, office bearers of the Anekant
Bharati Publication, Ahmedabad, and the well-wishers of Smt. Maya Surana in large number.

Ahmedabad and Vivekanand Charitable Trust, Gandhinagar

A Blood Donation Camp was organized in the Banquet Hall of the Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar, on
2.2.2016 with the active collaboration of the Civil Hospital, Gandhinagar and the Civil Hospital,
Ahmedabad to celebrate the birthday of Smt. Avinash Kohli, Hon. Lady Governorshri.
Raj Bhavan employees, officials and their family members voluntarily participated in this camp.
Officers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, BSF etc. too participated in this event. Smt. Avinash Kohli,
Hon. Lady Governorshri and Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, visited the blood donors and
complimented them for rendering important community service by donating their blood.
Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, inaugurated the Yoga Shibir which was jointly organized by the Arogya
Bharati, Ahmedabad, and the Vivekanand Charitable Trust, Gandhinagar, on 27.1.2016.
In his inaugural address on the occasion, Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, observed that our modern life style
has been responsible for spread of diseases like hyper tension, acidity, diabetes and high blood pressure. In such a
scenario, it has become absolutely necessary to follow the practices of healthy living as advocated in our ancient
science of health medicine called Ayurveda and live a disciplined life. He also observed that diabetes has become a
modern disease which, at times, can become fatal if the affected persons do not observe a disciplined way of life and it
is here that the Yoga can play an important role.
Hon. Governorshri also complimented the Office bearers of the Arogya Bharati, Ahmedabad, and the Vivekanand
Charitable Trust, Gandhinagar, who have been spearheading the DW]D[CD]sT efFZT VLEIFG across the country. He applauded their sincere efforts towards the service of the community.
The programme was attended by Shri Shankerbhai Chaudhary, Hon. State Minister for Health , the practitioners
of Yoga and Ayurveda, NGO representatives, Officers from Health Department of Gujarat Government, Office

'At Home' Ceremony for the NCC Cadets at the
Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar (3.2.2016)Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, graced the 'At Home' ceremony for the
Gujarat NCC Contingents which had participated in the Republic Day Parade at
New Delhi. The programme was organized by the NCC Directorate of Gujarat,
Dadra Nagar Haveli, Diu and Daman at the Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar on
3.2.2016.
Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, felicitated a few NCC cadets with
medals for their outstanding performance during the Republic Day parade at
New Delhi. He complimented them for their achievements and expressed
the hope that they would continue to shine out in their future endeavours.
In his address to the NCC cadets assembled on the occasion, Shri O.P. Kohli,
Hon. Governorshri, expressed his pleasure for being with them and
observed that their excellent performance at the Republic Day Parade had
given credit to the Gujarat State. He praised their hard work and commitment
to the NCC. He also called upon the young cadets to serve the nation without
prejudice and spread the message of spirit of unity and secularism in their life.
He also stated that the lessons of discipline and unity that they have learnt in the
NCC, would help them to be ideal citizens of the country in future.
He also watched with interest a small cultural programme that was staged by
the NCC cadets during the event.

Shri Justice Ramayyagari Subhash Reddy,
Hon. Judge of the High Court of Judicature at
Hyderabad for the State of Telengana and the
State of Andhra Pradesh, was appointed as the
Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court with
effect from the date he assumed charge of his
office vide the Government of India in the
Ministry of Law and Justice's Notification

Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, graced the Book release function organized by the ,
New Delhi, at a programme organized by it in the Banquet Hall of the Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar, on 16.2.2016.
During the function, Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, released the book titled ?'' (What is India?).
It was a Gujarati translation of a book named Great Minds of India written by Shri Salil Gewali from Shilong.
In his brief address on the occasion, Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, observed that great minds of the world
were influenced by the Indian Civilization and culture in their writings. He stated that there was a time when
India's education was much sought after. A number of students from various countries used to come to places like
Takshashila, Ujjain, Varanasi, Vallabhipur, Nalanda etc. for getting higher education. He observed that translation of
such books would be eminently helpful to the Gujarati-knowing people to have a greater understanding of Indian
culture and civilization.
Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, also released another book named NZN5]Z which describes the pitiable and
miserable plight of the Kashmiri refugees.
The programme was attended by Shri Atul Kothari of , New Delhi, Shri Salil Gewali, the
author of the book Great Minds of India, Smt. Vandana Bhatt, translator of the book, Shri Bhupendrasinhji
Chudasma, Hon. Education Minister, academicians and prominent people from Gujarat in large number.
Interaction with a group of students from the Blind School, Gandhinagar (16.2.2016)
Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, had a lucid interaction with a group of students from the Blind School,
Gandhinagar, at the Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar, on 16.2.2016 when they called on him.
Hon. Governorshri interacted with them about their studies, hobbies and interests in life. He urged them not to lose
heart by adverse circumstances, but to face life with all its challenges bravely. He gave them his blessings and wished
them good luck in their future endeavours.

Hon. Judge of the High Court of Judicature at
Hyderabad for the State of Telengana and the
State of Andhra Pradesh, was appointed as the
Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court with
effect from the date he assumed charge of his
office vide the Government of India in the
Ministry of Law and Justice's Notification
dated 30.1.2016.

Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, graced the Book release function organized by the ,
New Delhi, at a programme organized by it in the Banquet Hall of the Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar, on 16.2.2016.
During the function, Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, released the book titled ?'' (What is India?).
It was a Gujarati translation of a book named Great Minds of India written by Shri Salil Gewali from Shilong.
In his brief address on the occasion, Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, observed that great minds of the world
were influenced by the Indian Civilization and culture in their writings. He stated that there was a time when
India's education was much sought after. A number of students from various countries used to come to places like
Takshashila, Ujjain, Varanasi, Vallabhipur, Nalanda etc. for getting higher education. He observed that translation of
such books would be eminently helpful to the Gujarati-knowing people to have a greater understanding of Indian
culture and civilization.
Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, also released another book named NZN5]Z which describes the pitiable and
miserable plight of the Kashmiri refugees.
The programme was attended by Shri Atul Kothari of , New Delhi, Shri Salil Gewali, the
author of the book Great Minds of India, Smt. Vandana Bhatt, translator of the book, Shri Bhupendrasinhji
Chudasma, Hon. Education Minister, academicians and prominent people from Gujarat in large number.

Gandhinagar, at the Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar, on 16.2.2016 when they called on him.

A motivational lecture for the benefit of the
Raj Bhavan employees and their family
members was organized in the Raj Bhavan,
Gandhinagar on 1.3.2016 in which Shri
Baheramgor Dastoor, a motivational speaker,
gave a lecture on the theme of Positive
Attitude.
Shri Dastoor explained in a very lucid
language how one's positive attitude towards life
makes it worth living. He urged the audience to
avoid negative thoughts and asked them to
always think positively without bothering about unnecessary things. He asked them to be positive and do things with
good intentions without much worrying about the results or the outcome.
Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri of Gujarat, thanked Prof. Dastoor for delivering a motivational lecture before
the Raj Bhavan employees by giving a number of illustrations which were very interesting. He thanked him for his
valuable inputs.

subjects like security aspects of

complimented them for their achievements. He also
observed that donating blood is a very noble activity
because it is only blood which can save a human life at

excellent work for a humanitarian cause and
expressed the hope that they would continue to
donating blood in the years to come. He also
complimented the Ahmedabad District Branch of the
Indian Red Cross Society for organizing such a
programme.

Shri Balwant Singh, IAS (Retd), Chief Information Commissioner, Gujarat State, accompanied
by Shri V.S. Gadhvi, IAS, (Retd), Information Commissioner and others came to the Raj Bhavan,
Gandhinagar, on 22.3.2016 and handed over the Gujarat Information Commission's Annual Report
2014-15. Hon. Governorshri accepted the Report.
The Report under the Right To Information Act, 2005 mentions about the Commission's activities
such as statistical data about the complaints received and complaints disposed off in the year 2014-
15. It also gives the Commission's recommendations and suggestions as well as observations for the
better implementation of the Right To Information Act, 2005.
After going through the contents of the Report, Hon. Governorshri allowed it to be forwarded to
the State Government in the General Administration Department for placing it before the Gujarat
Legislative Assembly.
Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, gave away the Sanskrit Gaurav Puraskar Award and the Yuva Gaurav Puraskar Award to the Sanskrit scholars at a function organized by the Gujarat Sahitya Academy, Gandhinagar, at the Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar, on 30.3.2016.
Hon. Governorshri felicitated Dr. Ambalal Prajapati, a renowned Sanskrit scholar with the Sanskrit Gaurav Puraskar Award and Shri Gopal Upadyay, a promising scholar of the Sanskrit, with the Yuva Gaurav Puraskar Award during the event. Both the awardees represented two different generations in the sense that Dr. Ambalal Prajapati was a veteran Sanskrit scholar who had devoted his entire life for the spread of Sanskrit; whereas, Shri Gopal Upahdyay represented the younger generation who had shown remarkable performance for the spread of Sanskrit at a very young age. Hon. Governorshri complimented both the scholars and wished them good luck in their future endeavours. The programme was attended by Shri Nanubhai Vanani, Hon. Minister of State for Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities, academicians, prominent citizens of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, literary figures and lovers of Sanskrit in large number.

Literature Festival 2016 organized
by the Gujarati Literature Fest, Ahmedabad at

Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, inaugurated the
Gujarati Literature Festival 2016 which was organized by
the Gujarati Literature Fest, Ahmedabad at the Kanodia
Centre for Art, K.L. Campus, Opp. Gujarat University,
Ahmedabad on 6.1.2016. In his inaugural address, Shri O.P.
Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, observed that the purpose of the
celebration of the Gujarati Literature Festival was to revive
interest for literature particularly in our youths and thereby to
promote love for Gujarati language in every possible way.
He further stated that the Gujarati writers have been
presenting modern life and its problems in new and different
forms and their efforts have made Gujarati literature more

Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, inaugurated the 13th edition of 3-Days long Satvik Food Festival
hosted by the Society for Research and Initiatives for Substantial Technologies and Inspiration (SRISTI)
and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. In his inaugural address, Shri O.P. Kohli,
Hon. Governorshri, observed that the main objective of the Satvik Food Festival was to promote
traditional recipes which were made with lesser-known grains, vegetables and minor millets. He observed
that it was a matter of pleasure that a number of edible food items from across the country were
demonstrated during the event.
Hon. Governorshri had further observed that the idea of the Satvik Food Festival was to take people back
to their roots and renew their interests in our forgotten traditional recipes besides making them aware of
lesser-known forgotten food-grains and millets from several States. He asked the people to remember that by
taking traditional food, we do not become backward. He impressed upon the people that we should never
treat our regular diet as old-fashioned and out of date. Rather, we should always remember our diets with our
roots and should proudly love our traditional food.
The programme was attended by Shri Ashish Nanda, Director of the Indian Institute of Management,
Ahmedabad, Prof. Anil Gupta and other dignitaries, food lovers and prominent people from all walks of life.

Shri O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, inaugurated the
Gujarati Literature Festival 2016 which was organized by
the Gujarati Literature Fest, Ahmedabad at the Kanodia
Centre for Art, K.L. Campus, Opp. Gujarat University,
Ahmedabad on 6.1.2016. In his inaugural address, Shri O.P.
Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, observed that the purpose of the
celebration of the Gujarati Literature Festival was to revive
interest for literature particularly in our youths and thereby to
promote love for Gujarati language in every possible way.
He further stated that the Gujarati writers have been
presenting modern life and its problems in new and different
forms and their efforts have made Gujarati literature more
relevant today. He stated that Gujarati literature has never

In his occasional address to the gathering, Shri
O.P. Kohli, Hon. Governorshri, complimented the
office bearers of the Bharat Vikas Parishad, Gujarat
Prant, for their continuous efforts towards the
service of the society. He expressed his pleasure by
observing that it was heartening to be in the midst
of the selfless workers who were sincerely
dedicated to the development and growth of the
country in the field of human endeavours by
promoting the sense of patriotism, national unity
and integrity. He expressed the hope that the
Bharat Vikas Parishad would continue its social
activities with greater dedication in the years to
come.

During the event, Hon. Governorshri complimented
the organizers for giving encouragement to the
dedicated artists for displaying their talents in various
art forms such as music, dance, drama, etc. He also
observed that a number of talented people actively
engaged in various spheres of art, had given a unique
identity to Gujarat. He complimented them for their
talented performances and expressed the hope that
they would continue to bring more laurels to Gujarat in
the coming years.
