InformationThe commercial greenlip and blacklip abalone fisheries in State waters off the north-west coast of Tasmania are being closed for the remainder of the year 2011 to control the total amount of abalone harvested in that area. This closed area relates to commercial fishing for greenlip abalone in fishing blocks 48, 49 and 5. Blocks 47, 48 and 49 are being closed to the commercial take of blacklip abalone. King Island remains open for the commercial taking of both blacklip and greenlip abalone. The commercial abalone fishery in State waters around the Actaeon Island is also being closed for the remainder of the year 2011 to control the total amount of abalone harvested in that area in the interest of resource sustainability. This closed area relates to commercial fishing in fishing sub-blocks 13C, 13D and 13E.

I, ROBERT GOTT, Director (Marine Resources), acting under Rule 9 of the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2009, and delegated authority under Section 20(1) of the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995, hereby determine that the dates of the closed season for the commercial abalone fishery:
(i) for the taking of greenlip abalone (Haliotis laevigata) from “State waters adjacent to the north-west coast of Tasmania (A)”,
(ii) for the taking of blacklip abalone (Haliotis rubra) from “State waters adjacent to the north-west coast of Tasmania (B)”, and
(iii) for the taking of blacklip abalone (Haliotis rubra) from “State waters in the south-east of Tasmania adjacent to Actaeon Island”
are as follows:
- from 29 October 2011 to 31 December 2011, inclusive;
where “State waters adjacent to the north-west coast of Tasmania (A)” is defined to mean the area of State waters adjacent to the north-west coast of mainland Tasmania bounded in the east and north on the north coast by an imaginary straight line starting at the point where the line of longitude 145° 06’ 17.82” East meets the high-water mark near Pelican Point and running due north along that line of longitude until its junction with the line of latitude 40° 17’ 06.77” South then running due west along that line of latitude until the outer limit of State waters, and bounded in the south on the west coast by an imaginary straight line running due west from the mouth of the Arthur River to the outer limit of State waters;
where “State waters adjacent to the north-west coast of Tasmania (B)” is defined to mean the area of State waters adjacent to the north-west coast of mainland Tasmania bounded in the east and north on the north coast by an imaginary straight line starting at the point where the line of longitude 145° 22’ 21.37” East meets the high-water mark near Cowrie Point and running due north along that line of longitude until its junction with the line of latitude 40° 17’ 06.77” South then running due west along that line of latitude until the outer limit of State waters, and bounded in the west by an imaginary line from the northernmost point of Woolnorth Point to Brown Rocks then running due west to the outer limit of State waters; and
where “State waters in the south-east of Tasmania adjacent to Actaeon Island” is defined to mean those State waters within an area bounded in the north by the line of latitude at 43° 30’ 45” South, and bounded in the east by the line of longitude at 147° 10’ 39” East, and bounded in the south by the line of latitude at 43° 46’ 00” South, and bounded in the west by the line of longitude at 146° 52’ 18” East.

IN ACCORDANCE with the provisions of the Rules Publication Act 1953, notice is given of the making of the following statutory rules:–
GENERAL PURPORT OR EFFECT OF THE ABOVEMENTIONED STATUTORY RULES
(1) Proclamation under section 2 of the Asbestos-Related Diseases (Occupational Exposure) Compensation Act 2011
This proclamation fixes 31 October 2011 as the day on which the provisions of the Asbestos-Related Diseases (Occupational Exposure) Compensation Act 2011 commence.
(2) Asbestos-Related Diseases (Occupational Exposure) Compensation Regulations 2011
These regulations, made under the Asbestos-Related Diseases (Occupational Exposure) Compensation Act 2011, prescribe for the purposes of the Act various compensation units, some evidentiary, practice and procedure requirements of the Tribunal under the Act, certain laws of a State about damages for work-related activities, and how certain moneys are to be dealt with by the Public Trustee.
(3) Water and Sewerage Industry (General) Amendment Regulations 2011
These regulations amend the Water and Sewerage Industry (General) Regulations 2009 by prescribing certain work involving water meters as work, related to water infrastructure, that is not to be regarded as a use or development for the purposes of the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993 or as being in any other way subject to that Act.
