TECH TIPS

Q: My shop is switching over to water-borne paint. What are the differences in the hand-held air blowers available.

A: There are some very big differences. The SATA Dry-jet only uses 8.2 CFM at 29 psi. That is the lowest one avail-able in the market. Today, with such high demands on the air compressor, using less air, to gain more is very critical. Also, when used at 29 psi, and at a distance of 39 inches from the panel, the SATA Dry-jet magnifies the input CFM by 10 times. This means huge amount of air on the output side, gently scrubs the surface, and carries away the water, to dry the paint film quickly, with a low air consumption, and a low cost. Competitive mod-els out there use as much as 21 cfm. Many low cost import models use 17 to 19 CFM, but do not magnify that amount on the output, so they simply do not dry as fast, but waste air in the

shop. Compressed air is so expensive to produce, that it is critical to use that resource economically. Again, the SATA Dry-jet uses less air, and dries paint faster than the others.

Q: How far away from the panel should I use my SATA Dry-jet?

A: That is a very important part of using the SATA Dry-jet. The Dry-jet should be used at 29 to no more than 35 psi, and at a distance from the panel of 39 inches. At that distance, and when blown at an angle, the air picks up the water, and removes it. Your dry times increase very quickly. If you move too close to the panel, it simply skins over the surface, and does not remove the water, but instead traps it underneath. You will then see it start to re-wet the surface, or worse, find tape tracking or adhesion issues due to the waterborne paint not being properly dried. By

backing up to 39 inches, setting the pressure correctly at 29 psi to max 35 psi, setting the Dry-jet to blow at an angle to the object (not straight on), the SATA Dry-jet will dry the water-borne paint very quickly, and uses very little air.

Q Can I connect my SATA Dry-jet to any air source?

A The gun requires only 8.2 CFM. So most filters allow that amount, so vol-ume will not be an issue. But what is more important, is how clean the air is. Remember that the air is blowing across the surface of the waterborne paint, and that has to be very clean. Much of the air that is currently being used in shops as they switch to water-borne is not clean enough. When they were spraying solvent, small traces of oil droplets or oil vapors would mix with the solvent, and not be an issue.

Now with water, the oil in particle form, or in vapor form does not mix with water, but instead floats or lays on the surface of the paint, causing signif-icant contamination, and in most cases small fisheye like failures. Adhesion can also be very adversely effected by the oily contaminants.

The SATA 484 filter, with 129.6 CFM as well as the SATA 284 filter, with 70 CFM are both 3 stage fil-ters, which purify air to breathing air quality. They filter particles down to 0.01 micron, plus add the carbon in the charcoal filter stage to remove remaining oil vapors. By bringing your spraying air to breathing air qual-ity, paint jobs improve dramatically, and today’s waterborne paint, as well as today’s high solids clears look bet-ter than ever. Plus the added CFM capabilities let you run multiple SATA Dry-jets without restriction.

from spray gun to spray gun as long as there is a docking base attached to it. Because the display is removable and portable to other spry guns with docking stations there is no need to purchase additional air micrometers. The display removal also makes it easier for cleaning and maintenance

SATA adam 2 dock:Adaptor plate for the SATA adam 2 display replaces the standard air micrometer. Available in two versions for SATA standard guns and SATA minijet guns, it now also features the micrometer function for pressure setting. The integrated seal provides full pressure setting functionality even when the display has been removed. Comes with protective cover when display is not mounted.

SATA adam 2 display: The digital readout which contains all electronic components. As the pressure is set by turning the setting wings on the docking base only, the digital display always remain in the upright position ensuring perfect pressure reading at all times. For increased safety during gun cleaning in gun washing machines, a simple, reliable click-in mechanism quickly releases the SATA adam 2 display from the dock. This mechanism also allows using the SATA adam 2 display on different SATA spray guns equipped with a docking base.

High practicalityIn the development stage, the focus was practicality of the SATA adam 2 version. The interchangeable digital gauge is shatter proof, also suitable for cleaning in gun washing machines and in compliance with the latest ATEX guidelines for protection in explosion hazardous areas (codified according to the EU Directive 94/9/EU (ATEX) for EX II 1 G an EEx ia IIC T4; FM approved). To extend the battery lifetime, the electronic components are shifted into a sleep mode while the device is not in use. The battery with an average lifetime of approx. two to three years depending on usage can be easily replaced by the end-user.

All going DIGITAL All SATA paint spray guns with an integrated air micrometer can now be upgraded with the SATA adam 2. The assembly is very simple and quick - the standard air micrometer is replaced by the retrofit SATA adam 2 with just a few easy steps.

Craig lives in Alaska along the Kenai Peninsula coast which is located about 250 miles south of the city of Anchorage. He was raised in what is called "bush" Alaska by a old mountain man father by the name of Grizzly Grimes. He has 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Craig works in many art mediums: paint-ing, drawing, scrimshaw, carving, inlay work, custom knives, pistol grips, rifle stocks, jewelry, photography, and digital imaging.

He has made thousands of pieces of art work that are now all over the world. Some are high end items, such as custom made pool cues or scrimshawed fossilized walrus or mammoth tusks. Some of his more affordable items consist of hand-made diamond willow walking canes, sculptures, carvings, pendants, pins, bolo's, belt buck-les, folding and skinner knives, note cards,

burl tables, clocks, and a varied number of other items.

As an artist Craig Stevens is at the top of his game. His shop is extensive, with wood working machinery of all kinds, metal lathes, milling machines, carving tools and just about every tool known to man. Most of the items he makes you won't find anywhere else. He likes mak-ing things that are rare and unique.

Scrimshaw is the age old art of etching with a needle on ivory or bone. The etching is done by scratching the surface of the ivory with a sharp object. Ink is then rubbed in to create the picture. In color scrimshaw it is done with acrylics or oil paints. Each color is done one layer at a time, working from darks to lights. Craig Stevens chooses fossilized walrus or mammoth ivory for his scrimshaw. This adds a unique challenge as fossilized ivories vary in color and take exceptional skill to add images while main-taining and utilizing the beautiful colors of the fossil ivory. As you can see from the examples, Craig does an exceptional job.

Even being close to the North Pole

Can't Stop a SATAminijet

Dear Sata,

I do not normally do this kind of thing but some

things just make it worth the effort. So here goes....

The reason I am writing your company is to say how

pleased I am with your product. (I own 2 minijets,

HVLP/2 and a HVLP/3) I first used one of these guns

when working for someone else about 20 years ago

and just loved the gun. Well I purchased one and

then a second and lets just say they have been with

me a long time and have seen more use that one

could imagine for a little gun. (if it were miles on a

car I am sure it would be turning the 10,000,000 mile mark.)

they have never once let me down and always perform just

flawlessly. I have talked many people into buying one (think I

am an unpaid sales rep for your company! lol)

I have made pool cues that have sold for over $25,000, pistol

grips that average $1500. High end custom knives, (skinners,

folders, daggers, you name it) I build hundreds of high end ear-

rings, and all different kinds of jewelry, from walking canes to

bow grips. Heck, I have even painted a couple of hot rod cars

with it! It is one of my tools I cannot do without and I thank

your company greatly for making such a exceptional product.

I contribute part of my success to the fact I use your guns.

(I simply will not use any others, I believe in quality when it

comes to my tools and yours are some of my most cherished.),

so to you and all of your staff I take off my hat and give a bow.

Exceptional....truly exceptional.

Thank you so much!,

The transformation to waterborne is in full swing as was witnessed by the move in California and the OTC (east coast). Transforming the move to waterborne doesn’t have to be hard on the pocket book, by looking at your current equip-ment and seeing what it takes to upgrade it instead of going all out and buying everything new.

There are a few major areas to focus on to be ready for the switch to waterborne, Air Purity, Corrosion Resistant Equip-ment, Clean Air Drying Equip-ment.

Air Quality When switching to waterborne, one of the most important things to look into is the air quality and volume of air.

As compressed air flows through the

air supply pipes, condensation, scale and oil or oil vapor can be carried along downstream. Even tiny amounts of oil residue are a clear-cut source of coating

contamination. That is usually not a problem for sanders and some

other air tools. But it can be a problem for breathing

air and/or spraying paint material – particularly waterborne. Waterborne

paint is extremely sensi-tive to oil contamination. Oil contamination intro-duces oil droplets and oil vapor into the air stream for breathing air and usu-

ally causes very small sili-cone-like craters (fish eyes) in

the paint coating. That results in expen-sive repair work regardless of whether conventional solvent-based or waterborne

material is used. The two-stage filter system has been

standard equipment in many quality body shops. However when compressed air is carried downstream typical two-stage filter units cannot purge oil vapor. Usu-ally oil vapor can be detected by odor if the painter is us-ing a supplied air respirator. When spraying waterborne, adding a (464 filter) third stage acti-vated charcoal filter is ideal. Activated charcoal absorbs oil and organic vapors in compressed air making it suitable for breathing air and spraying waterborne. This combination makes it a very cost ef-

fective way to upgrade your existing filter system.Corrosion Resistant Equipment

With most spray guns made of alumi-num, a painter needs to take particular attention to cleaning the spray gun very thoroughly after use. If you put water and aluminum together you get a very cor-rosive reaction, so if the spray gun is not set up for waterborne material and there is residue left in the gun, the result will be corrosion which deteriorates the spray gun over time making it very inefficient and sometimes useless. SATA’s new spray guns, in particular the SATAjet 3000 HVLP, RP and the SATAminijet 3000 B, fluid passages have a special coating to safeguard against internal corrosion. Also the gun bodies and all control parts are now plated with a corrosion-resis-tant, high-gloss Chrome finish. And of

Edition limited series spray guns. The attractive packag-ing and stunning orange fin-ish on the Foose Edition spray guns are both very collectible, yet completely functional in theshops. Chip Foose has been a loyal advocate of SATA for years. We continue to work together on upcoming projects, and were again very excited to have him in our booth at SEMA 2009.

If you were at the show, you got to see Chip’s truck that was featured on an episode of Overhaulin’. The other car in our booth is the amazing Stella D’ Oro, “Star of Gold” 33 Ford coupe. It is the finished proj-ect, and belongs to Mitch and Tara Lanzini, of Lanzini Body Works. Mitch has done many such stunning rides over the years, and has been featured on many of the Overhaulin’ episodes. The car’s finish and attention to detail made it an eye-catcher that was easy to see from isles away at SEMA. It was also featured in a previ-ous issue of SATA News, and on the home page of the Paint Body & Equipment section on SEMA’s website in 2009. He has been a long-time friend to SATA, and we were so pleased to have him each day in our booth. Our customers and his fans appreciate the smiles, and time Mitch takes to answer any and all questions. It was also the second year in a row that Mitch and Tara spent their anniversary with us, at SEMA. We couldn’t be happier to have them there.

Award winning bike builder and designer Kris Krome, together with Johnny K of Kris Krome Customs, Inc were also in our booth during the show. On display was their one of a kind board track racer names SATAjet. The bike features SATA gun bodies as foot pegs, and a SATA 1 to 1 Vario-Top diaphragm pump cover as an air cleaner. Also built into the bike were many SATA logos, including the one of a kind SATA logo chain, by Insane Chains of Florida. Kris and Johnny K spent the week signing auto-graphs and visiting with our customers about their work, and how they use only SATA products to produce their award winning results.

For artists this year we had three who spent time turning out amazing art work, and speaking with those who asked questions. We had Leah and Brian Gall of Finishline Designs, Jack Giachino of Giachino Art Studio, and JoAnne Bortles of Crazy Horse Painting showing off their talents throughout the show. Please look to the photos to see all three of our talented art-ists.

Upcoming new products were also unveiled. The new SATA Adam 2 was shown in its prototype form at SEMA. It will be available in May 2010. The new version Adam 2 has some great features. It consists of two components. The Adam 2 dis-play and the Adam dock. The Adam dock will come in two sizes. One to fit the full sized SATA guns, and the other to fit the SATA minijet series. Simply remove the air micrometer knob and replace it with the flat plate of the Adam dock. The new Adam 2 display can then be coupled into either dock, the full sized or mini version. This allows a painter to go digital on all of their SATA guns, and reduces the cost. Adjustment of pressure is now done with ease, and security. On the back side of the Adam dock, there are two places for fingers to press and turn the adjustment knob. This allows the Adam 2 gauge to stay upright and in place on the dock. It is also considerably lighter in weight that the previous version Adam. Now only one Adam 2 will be required, and multiple docks to fit all your SATA guns. It just got a lot easier to go Digital. The new Adam 2 will be available in May 2010.

On display we had mannequins fully suited in SATA Vision 2000 full hoods, and the awesome new Dan-Am Company Pro Series Paint Suits. The new Pro-Series suits have permanent anti-static carbon fiber sewn in, and the flexible back for stretch and comfort. They also include the popular flaming SATA skull design on the back. These new suits, as well as the white and gray suits are all now available.

SEMA 2009 was a great show that allowed us to meet with thousands of customers, and answer a lot of great questions. Hope to see all of you this coming November, for SEMA 2010.

more about what is coming in 2010. Our staff remained constantly busy answering questions primarily about what equipment was needed to spray waterborne materials.

Our booth offered displays showing each of the various tools and equipment that make spraying waterborne easy, and shops more productive. The two SATA filter series including both the 400 Filter series and the 200 filter series were on display. The 3-stage filters were most talked about with their ability to clean air down to 0.01 microns, and remove contaminants down to and including oil vapors. This is a critical part of success when spraying waterborne materials. But not only that, they offer clean air for breathing systems as well. Our displays also showed NIOSH approved sup-plied air respirators, which has become more and more popular in bodyshops across America. Also on display

were the complete RPS SATA single-use cups series. Available in 0.9 liter, 0.6 liter and 0.3 liter, the SATA RPS cups are there for any sized jobs. We had the cups, as well as the SATA RPS depot on display, and demonstrated the cups in our booth, and answered questions for all who had them. At another station, we had the SATA RCS, Rapid Cleaning System in use. This cleaning system makes cleaning a spray gun quickly between colors effortless, and efficient. In only 24 seconds, a painter can clean their spray gun, and be ready for the next color, while never leaving the booth. When spraying multiple bumper covers of various colors, or projects, this effective and efficient cleaner is a must. It is also another way to keep your SATA Spray guns in perfect

working order. During the show, we had a great interview and RCS product demonstration by Bryan Fuller from Two Guys Garage. It is a TV show on Speed Channel.

We also had many other celebrities and artists in our booth during the entire SEMA

show. The popular car designer and Overhaul in’ s tar Chip Foose was in our booth many times during the show. He also spent a few hours signing autographs for hun-dreds of loyal fans and car enthusiasts. On display in the booth was our just introduced SATAJet 3 0 0 0 B F o o s e

PAINT STRIPPING AND

MISCELLANEOUS SURFACE COATING OPERATIONS

(SUBPART HHHHHH)What Is an Area Source?

• Any source that is not a major source. (A major source is a facility that emits, or has the potential to emit in the absence of controls, at least 10 tons per year (TPY) of individual hazardous air pollutants (HAP) or 25 TPY of combined HAP.)

Who Does This Rule Apply To?• Area sources that engage in any of the following:

ÿPaint stripping operations that use methylene chlo- ride (MeCl)-containing paint stripping formulations;

ÿSpray application of coatings to motor vehicles and mobile equipment;

ÿ Spray application of coatings to a plastic and/or metal substrate where the coatings contain com- pounds of chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), or cadmium (Cd).

This rule does not apply to:

• Surface coating or paint stripping performed on site at installations owned or operated by the Armed Forces of the United States.

• Surface coating or paint stripping of military munitions or equipment directly and exclusively used for the purposes of transporting military munitions.

Surface coating or paint stripping performed by individu-als on their personal vehicles, property or possessions, either as a hobby or for maintenance of their personal vehicles, possessions, or property provided they coat no more than two vehicles per year.

• Surface coating or paint stripping that meets the defini-tion of “research and laboratory activities.”

• Surface coating or paint stripping that meets the defini-tion of “quality control activities.”

• Surface coating or paint stripping that meets the defini-tion of “quality control activities.”

• Surface coating or paint stripping activities that are cov-ered under another area source NESHAP

Motor vehicle or mobile equipment surface coating opera-tions may petition the Administrator for an exemption from this subpart if you can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the Administrator, that you spray apply no coatings that contain compounds of chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), manga-nese (Mn), nickel (Ni), or cadmium (Cd).

What Am I Required To Do?• Paint Stripping Operations—implement management practices that minimize emissions of MeCl.

ÿEvaluate the need for paint stripping (e.g., is it pos- sible to re-coat without stripping?).

ÿ Evaluate each application to identify potential alternative stripping methods.

ÿ Reduce exposure of strippers to air.

ÿ Optimize application conditions.

ÿ Practice proper storage and disposal.

• For each paint stripping operation with > 1 ton MeCl annual usage, develop and implement a written MeCl minimization plan. No implementation plan is needed if

usage is < 1 ton MeCl; however, sources must still utilize work practices to minimize emissions of MeCl. Consult the MSDS sheet to identify the amount of MeCl contained in the paint stripper, but note that annual usage should not exceed 181 gallons of MeCl.

• Maintain records of annual usage of paint strippers con-taining MeCl.

• Motor Vehicle/Mobile Equipment/Miscellaneous Surface Coating Operations.

ÿTrain/certify all painters on spray gun equipment selection, spray techniques, maintenance, and environ- mental compliance (consult 73 FR 1738, pg. 1762, sec- tion 63.11173(f )(2)(i)-(iv)).

ÿInstall/operate filter technology on all spray booths/ stations/enclosures to achieve at least 98% capture efficiency.

ÿSpray booths/stations used to refinish complete motor vehicles or mobile equipment must be fully enclosed and ventilated at negative pressure or up to 0.05 inches water gauge positive pressure for booths that have seals on all doors and other open- ings and an automatic pressure balancing system.

ÿSpray booths/stations used to coat miscellaneous parts or products or vehicle subassemblies must have a full roof, at least three complete walls or side curtains, and ventilated so that air is drawn into the booth.

ÿ Spray-applied coatings must be applied with a high volume, low pressure (HVLP) spray gun, electro-static application, airless or air-assisted airless spray gun, or an equivalent technology.

ÿ Paint spray gun cleaning must be done so that an atomized mist or spray of the cleaning solvent is not created outside a container that collects used gun cleaning solvent.

ÿTrain and certify all personnel who spray apply surface coatings no later than 180 days after hiring or by July 7, 2008 (new sources) or by January 10, 2011 (existing sources).

What are the Impacts?• Most paint stripping facilities already comply with the rule requirements. Estimate 1,000 facilities will need to w take action to comply.

ÿReduce 1,000 tons MeCl annually,

ÿ Capital costs = $1.5 million.

ÿ Annual benefit = $0.9 million.

• Most surface coating facilities already comply with the rule requirements. Estimate < 25% of existing facilities will need to take some action to comply.

ÿ Reduce 6,900 tons of HAP annually including 11 tons of metal HAP.

ÿ Capital costs = $20 million; however, initial cost to be offset and recovered over time by cost savings as a result of more efficient use of labor and materials.

What Is The Compliance Date?• Existing Sources: January 10, 2011.

• New Sources: Upon startup after January 9, 2008.

• An affected source is a new source if you commenced construction of the source after September 17, 2007 by installing new paint stripping or surface coating equip-ment at a source not actively engaged in paint stripping and/or miscellaneous surface coating prior to September 17, 2007.

• An affected source is an existing source if it is not a new source or a reconstructed source (An affected source is reconstructed if it meets the definition of reconstruction in section 63.2.).

What are the Permitting Requirements?• Affected facilities are exempt from Title V permit require-

ments provided they are not required to obtain a permit for another reason.

What Reporting\Recordkeeping is Required? Reporting:

• Initial Notification (informs EPA that the facility is subject to the standards and when the source will be in compli-ance).

New Sources: July 7, 2008 or 180 days after startup

Existing Sources: January 11, 2010

• Notification of Compliance (certifies that the source is in compliance with the applicable requirements).

New Sources: As part of the Initial Notification

Existing Sources: March 11, 2011

• Annual notification of changes report—required each calendar year any reportable changes occur.

Recordkeeping (keep these records on file)

• Records to include copies of Notifications submitted to EPA.

• Painter training certifications.

• Spray booth filter efficiency documentation.

• Spray gun transfer efficiency.

• MeCl content information such as MSDS.

• Annual usage of MeCl for paint stripping, and written MeCl minimization plan if annual usage > 1 ton per year.

• Deviation and corrective action documentation.

Records to be maintained in a form suitable and readily available for expeditious review.

*) For selecting the correct sieve fineness please ask your paint manufacturer.**) This variation fits directly on SATAminijet guns without bothersome adaptors.

The 0.3 L cup has two versions, one for the SATAminijet and for SATA full size guns, it attaches directly to SATA paint spray guns with QCC (Quick Cup Connector) or standard thread, no special adapter is required. Spray gun and RPS cup are the perfect match: the spray gun remains well-balanced, is noticeably light-er and cleaning is very simple, as only the short material passages have to be cleaned.

Painters emphasizing perfect color match and even material distribution do appreciate the gravity-flow cup prin-ciple allowing an even material flow.

Due to i ts disposable character, the cleaning of the cup becomes unneces-sary with RPS, thus saving the body shops valuable time and the use of solvents. Further cost savings are possible if sepa-rate mixing cups and sieves are eliminated from the work process.

SATA RPS 0.3L, 0.6L and 0.9L are sup-plied with sieves which are optionally available with 125µm or 200µm mesh size. For the correct type of sieve to be used, please refer to the recommendation of the respective paint manufacturer.

RPS Cups continued from page 1 PBE Big Event

In February 2010 Knud Jorgensen, Dan-Am Co. President, and Steve Treutel, Director of Industry Relations and Training attended the PBE Big Event in Burbank, CA. PBE, a warehouse dis-tributor based in Downey CA sponsors this event each year, and brings in many manufacturers and their customers from across the western and mountain regions of the USA. This year they had over 600 of their jobber distributor customers in attendance at this event. During the event there is a trade show setting where we get to show and discuss what is new.

This year we had the added advantage of sharing booth space next to Mothers. With both companies there is a great rela-tionship with Chip Foose. Having Chip nearby, answering questions, and sign-ing autographs the area around us was packed with interested people throughout the show. He has been a great spokes-person for Mothers products, as well as SATA. This year’s show also highlighted the work of TV and Magazine person-ality Rich Evans of Huntington Beach Bodyworks. Rich was also there sign-ing autographs, and helping us to pro-

mote the SATA line. The attention to our booth gave us great opportunities to talk about all the advantages of our products. With waterborne still being the focus in the west, our product line and marketing phrase H2O = SATA was a great match for this event.

Thank you to PBE for your efforts to make the Big Event a success again in 2010. Also thank you to the guys from Total Sales & Marketing for being great SATA representatives on the entire west coast!

Clean compressed air filtration for perfect finish resultsSATA FILTERS:

SATA Pressure RegulatorUsed with the 200 filter series 72cfm.Part # 47290

SATA 400 Series Filters:The SATA 400 modular filter series is designed to meet the highest standards of quality and performance. The modular system allows the user to adapt to varying shop conditions and requirements. Easy to service and maintain with no desiccant related problems. Dual gauges monitor pressure differential, thus a pressure variation of 10 to 15 psi or more indicate filter maintenance is required.

SATA combination filter systems are especially suitable for use with supplied air respirators providing 100% (technically 99.998%) clean breathing air.

SATA 200 Series:

Along with the 400, the 200 filter series is the most versatile modular filter system currently on the market but at an unbeatable price. The 200 is rated at 72 cfm @ 90 psi, more than adequate for many small shops. It can be connected to compressed air pipes from either the right or left side. When atomized air leaves the spray gun, it must be clean, dry and free of condensation, silicone, oil or any other contamination. Otherwise, the finished result can have a dull finish, fish eyes, water or dust. Clean, pure air is also a must for breathing air.

Spring 2010

Great spray pattern and ergonomics were the focus for the SATAjet 1000 K HVLP and RP. It’s compact, lighter, and painless on the

pocketbook. It features soft trigger pull and large fan similar to the

SATAjet K3 for fast working speed. Fewer air cap

and control threads avoid cross threading and cleaning is easier.

The SATAjet 1000 is polished anodized coating with stain-

less steel needle, fluid tip and material passages, making it ideal for waterborne.

importance is a stainless steel paint needle and fluid tip that are an integral part of the SATAjet 3000 and SATAminijet 3000 B and corrosion resistant. These features en-sure superb internal and external corrosion protection and have made the SATAjet(s) one of the longest lasting guns on the market.Dry Waterborne fast and efficiently

In general the paint booth of today has been designed for solvent base material. It relies on heat to speed up solvent evapora-tion. On the other hand waterborne requires high airflow volume to speed water evapo-ration. Some drying systems now available are being offered for many thousands of dollars. Investments in expensive water-borne drying systems are not necessary. Cost effective alternatives from SATA are available. We find that even shops that have out fitted their b o o t h s w i t h expensive sta-tionary air dry-ing units are still buying por-table units like the SATA dry-jet and stand.

SATA reacted to demand by developing a simple to use, cost effective waterborne drying system named SATA dry-jet. This convenient blowgun can be hand held or mounted on a stand. The special design multiplies ambient air volume by utilizing the venturi injection principle. The SATA dry-jet has an intake filter to prevent paint contamination. It is equipped with a Teflon ball shut-off valve and air consumption is only 8.2 cfm at 29 psi. The SATA dry-jet @ 8.2 cfm, uses the least amount of air in the industry.

For drying larger surfaces a special stand is available. Up to 3 SATA dry-jet blow-guns can be mounted on the stand and aimed at the surface to be dried. That dou-bles or triples the drying action. Besides increasing the drying area, the stand allows for unattended use. This allows the painter to go about doing other tasks until the sur-face is dry. SATA dry-jet blowguns rotate 360º and may be locked in any position. The stand connects to a standard air hose with a QC and is adjustable from 9.8 to 72.8 inches in height and 3.9 to 29.5 inches in width. Optional height and width exten-sions are available.

The SATA dry-jet blowgun system is a cost effective means of solving the problem for quick drying of waterborne.

Dan-Am now offers three levels of

the dry-jet system, econo, standard and premium models are available today.

The SATA dry-jet stand is the ideal waterborne dry-ing system for large areas. Up to 3 dry-jet blowguns can be mounted and aimed for quick drying.

Waterborne - continued from page 3

SATA dry-jet is a practical, lightweight hand-held blowgun that makes quick work of drying water-borne material.

SATA gun cleaning posters are available in two methods, manual cleaning of the spray and gun washer cleaning. The poster will aid in keeping the cor-rect steps for a clean spray gun for optimum performance. The poster is two sided, 18" x 24", so depending on your method of cleaning, Manual or Gun Washer, we got it covered.
