Year 6 students enjoyed firing the rockets that they have spent weeks building. The rest of our students enjoyed the spectacular display. Year 5 students enjoyed some old time fun with Gold Rush Day. The highlight of the week was our Mufti Day and food collection for the Cooranbong Community Centre. I was delighted to see the generosity shown by our school families. We ended up with an enormous pile of food to donate and excited students who have enjoyed being part of this compassion project. Enjoy some family fun during the holidays. Year 7 MusicYear 7 Music classes took on a whole new look on Tuesday as each roll class experienced African rhythms. The students had a blast in group workshops, looking at ways sounds and beats combine to create music of a drumming kind. Thanks to our music teachers for making this happen!

Primary School Tennis CompetitionThis week the Primary School Tennis Competition was held with over 25 students entering from Years 2-6. While some students need a little more practise in serving from the baseline, most students could play quite well.

The Year 6 boys division will not be completed until next term but the other divisions are now complete.

Students progressing to HRIS will be announced in Week 1 of Term 4 at the trophy presentation.

Water Skiing ChampionChristian W (6Hi) has been waterskiing for three years and has already been to NSW State and Nationals Competitions. Recently Christian competed in the NSW/QLD State of Origin Waterski Championships and came 4th. His younger brother Riley (1S) also competed, coming 6th.

HUGE CompassionWhat a blessing to those many families who are in need in our community. The collection of non-perishable items was massive and this good will be used directly to make food parcels for families doing it tough. Our local Cooranbong Community Centre was so pleased to receive this very generous act of compassion.

Principal’s MessageWhat a fantastic term. We have been busy with all the school tasks. Great events and great achievement as well as a hugely generous act of compassion, putting values in action, with the food drive to finish the last week. Our values reflect the way we act as a community in home and school. Values affect our students formation and development as individuals, and make it easier to reach goals that would be impossible to achieve individually. Values need to be talked about and practiced. For example, it is difficult to teach our children ‘tolerance’ if our leaders constantly insult those with whom they disagree. By the same token, it’s simple to promote ‘compassion’ if teachers or parents look for opportunities to be supportive and generous of those who are in real need. Values define behavior. At Avondale School we expect courtesy, respect, honesty, tolerance and we promote and practice these values. Just like the pillars at the entrance to our school, they mark who we are in the community. If we all work together on our values at home and school, our students will become confident and wholesome members of our community. Values shape our relationships, our behaviours, our choices and our sense of who we are. The values we teach our children are their best protection from the influences of peer pressure and the temptations of consumer culture. With their own values clearly defined, your children can make their own decisions— rather than imitate their friends or the latest fads. Have a great read of our news for this week.Dr David Faull Principal

Simply fill in one of our prayer cards and let us know what we can take to Jesus on your behalf. You can put your name, you can be really specific or you can just leave a general request and we’ll take it to Jesus when we’re next on our knees.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer

and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests

2015 PlanningWe are excited about our plans that we have programmed for your child/ren in 2015. These plans are based on the assumption that your child/ren will be returning after the Christmas school holidays. However, if you find your circumstances are changing or you think they may be changing for 2015, please notify the Principal by the end of this term via email to [email protected]. As stated in the School Handbook, p10, a term’s notice is required for us to plan appropriately and efficiently for your child. Thank you.
