THE WALL
1. INTRODUCTION- From the dawn of time, In order to hunt before the existence of weapons, we ran down our prey to until it was exhausted and died. 2. CLASS FOOTAGE- According to ‘Let’s Move’, a comprehensive initiative launched by former First Lady Michelle Obama, when kids are physically active, they perform better academically, have better attendance, and their behavior improves. 10 secs
3. Runners who played ball sports (i.e. soccer or footy) as kids had nearly 50 percent fewer stress fractures than runners who didn’t. Stanford University researchers found that runners who played ball sports had, “greater and more symmetrically distributed bone mass.” (Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine)
4. PARK RUN- Parkrun is a global organisation that holds community managed weekly 5k runs in parks across the world. They believe that anyone, no matter the background, should have the ability to run.
5. FACTS AND STATISTICS:● The most common and well known injury to running is “Runner's knee”
is irritation of the cartilage on the underside of the kneecap. Around 40% of running injuries are knee injuries and 13 percent of runners have suffered knee pain in the past year.
● Even if you’re a super-slow jogger, you’ll burn at least 10 calories per minute of running
● Physically active people have a 60 percent lower risk for Alzheimer’s disease than less active people.
● You can't completely fill your muscles with glycogen from just one meal, "which is why you should start carbo-loading two or three days before your race. When you run out of glycogen during a race you hit "the wall." Your body has to slow down as it turns fat into energy.
