Swan Point Yacht & Country Club 1 Voice of the Swan—December 2016
February 2012 Voice of the Swan As the year comes to a close, I would like to thank our entire management team
and their respective staff for all of their efforts to make 2016 another great year
at Swan Point. What makes an organization is its people, and we are blessed
with a dedicated and hardworking staff that go above and beyond to provide a
high level of service, product offerings, and attention to detail. We have added a
couple new staff members to our management team in November. I am pleased
to welcome Parker Ellington as our new Sales & Marketing Manager and Donnie
Ellsworth as our new Assistant Golf Professional. In the coming weeks, we will be
losing one of our management team members as well. Tina Noonan, our F&B
Manager, has accepted a new position closer to her home in Fredericksburg.
Tina’s last day with us will be on Sunday, December 11th. We wish Tina nothing
but the best in her new position.
December is packed with great programming here at Swan Point, so check out
the social calendar for our upcoming events. The Holiday Season’s kickoff event
will be the Tree Lighting on Wednesday December 1st. We hope to see you out
for dinner at The Point Grill. Make sure you come out and see Santa, have dinner
and sing some carols to help usher in the holiday spirit in the Swan Point com-
munity. The Golf Shop’s Annual Balloon Sale will be on Wednesday, December
7th and will be accompanied by Chef Richard’s Prime Rib Night. Make your reser-
vations early, as it tends to be a very busy night.
We have added a new event to the calendar for this year. Our Breakfast with
Santa will be held on Saturday, December 10th. We will have food, crafts, cookie
decorating, and of course a visit from Santa as well. The Annual Member Christ-
mas Party will be held on Saturday, December 17th with a great menu from our
Culinary Team and excellent entertainment for the evening with The Backfin
Band performing from 8:00 to 11:00pm. We will end 2016 with our New Year’s
Eve Party from 9:00 to 1:00am on December 31st. The Dr. Robert Band will be
here to usher in the New Year.
Lastly, I would like to extend a special thank you to all the volunteers from the
Swan Point Social Club who decorated the club’s interior for this holiday season.
Their efforts make the clubhouse the place to be in Swan Point to enjoy all the
holidays have to offer for friends and family. I hope to see you soon here at
Swan Point.
Wishing you and yours a joyous Holiday Season!
Ryan Meredith, PGA
General Manager

THE ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE SWAN POINT SOCIAL CLUB
The following applications were submitted to the ARC for the month of October
NEW CONSTRUCTION AND REQUESTS FOR MODIFICATIONS/CHANGES
*14850 King Charles Drive - Construct Screen Porch - Approved
NON-CRITICAL AREA TREE REMOVAL REQUESTS
*11569 Beacon Hill Court – Remove 2 Bradford Pear trees – Approved
ARC REMINDERS :
*The holiday season is right around the corner! Please remember that decorations may be displayed 30 days prior to a holiday and must be removed within 30 days afterward.
*Autumn leaves are falling in earnest this month. They can quickly accu-mulate into a suffocating blanket that may cause major damage to your lawn, not to mention how a yard full of leaves detracts from lovely holi-day décor. Please make every effort to rake on a regular basis. Also, please do not forget to keep the drainage ditch in front of your home free of leaves and other fallen debris. Roofs and gutters also need to be checked and kept clear of pine needles and leaves. ARC will be out checking the neighborhood after the 1st of the year.
*From your ARC neighbors and friends, “May your holiday season be filled with love, laughter, family and friends!”
The Architectural Review Committee meets at 10:00 am, at the Club-house on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. Requests must be received at the SPPOA office by 9:00a.m the Tuesday before a scheduled ARC meeting. Questions may be directed to the CMC On-Site Manager at: (301) 259-2100. Office hours are: 9 - 4: T, TH & FR
On December 7 ***note this is first Wednesday of month*** . We will be combining our annual Green's Workshop with our Holiday Par-ty. There are three different crafts that can be assembled at the work-shop. Bring your scissors and containers; all else will be provided. Following the workshop there will be a luncheon where we are asked to wear our vintage/ugly holiday sweaters, bring a decorative scarf to swap and then learn some fancy scarf tying techniques and finally maybe some holiday karaoke.
Toby Clark is chairing the Wayside Food Bank charity drive and is now accepting donations. It will be conducted much like last year, if you write a check, make it out directly to Wayside Food Bank and put SPSC on the comment line. Give the check or cash to Toby or one of her volunteer "elves". There should be elves at Swan Point events throughout the holidays to accept your donations. The Social Club will match the first $500 collected.
On Thanksgiving Morning, 27 Swan Point residents and their families participated in the 4th Annual Turkey Trot to benefit the Wayside Food Bank. Along with several canned food dona-tions, we collected $247 for the Wayside Food Bank. Thank you to everyone who participated and for the club providing water, coffee and hot chocolate to all of the participants.

NEWS FROM THE GOLF SHOP
The golf course is in great shape and the Grounds Crew has been
doing an exceptional job keeping the leaves at bay. We are experienc-
ing exceptional weather for this time of year, I hope that many of you
will take advantage of it. As for upcoming events in the Golf Shop, our
Annual Balloon Sale is on Wednesday, December 7th. There will be
complimentary wine and cheese for our shoppers to enjoy. Take the
time to come on out and join us for some great deals and a festive
time with your fellow members. We will also begin our 12 Days of
Christmas Sale starting December 11th. As I mentioned in my last
article, I have been very fortunate to hire a new Assistant Golf Profes-
sional, Donnie Ellsworth. Donnie is an aspiring young professional
with the drive and desire to become a PGA member. I hope that all of
you will give him the support that I received in my quest to becoming
a Class A, PGA Professional. My door is always open and I ask during
the off season, you to take the time to stop in and share your ideas
and suggestions. I would personally like to thank all of the member-
ship and their respective guests for their patience and support during
my transition into the Head Golf Professional position this past year.
Have a safe and Happy Holiday Season,
Robbie Early, PGA
Head Golf Professional
COURSE & GROUNDS First of all, thank you to everyone who came out to this year’s
Superintendent’s Revenge Tournament. From those of you who I have
talked to, it sounds like everyone had a good time. It is an event I truly
enjoy putting on, and hope in the future more will join in the fun.
The month of November compared to seasons past has been on average
a lot warmer. Along with the warm weather, the course is also four inch-
es below average in precipitation. This has made it challenging for the
cool season grass seedlings to grow. However, the warmer weather has
also kept the Bermuda grass from going dormant, and giving the course
the visually pleasing green color throughout the month. Since this is not
the norm, I have heard people express concern as to whether it is bad for
the grass to not be dormant, and thus how it will affect the spring green
up. Ideally this is a great thing. With the smoother transition to winter
and dormancy, hopefully not as much stress has been put on the grass,
the green up will be as normal. And while this is all promising it is im-
portant to remember that spring green up deals primarily with soil tem-
peratures, so really only time will tell.
The Grounds Crew and I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving,
and has a wonderful holiday season. I look forward to seeing you all out
on the course.
