POSTIVE SIGN FOR THE GLOBAL AVIATION INDUSTRY IN 2018 BY IATA The strong demand with industry grouping the global airlines industry is projected to set a bench mark in higher net profit of USD 38.4 billion next year as per IATA. As per The International Air Transport Association the expected net growth for this year was more than USD 34.5 billion which was revised upwards from USD 31.4 billion forecast in june. In spite of rising costs, strong demand, efficiency and reduced inter-est payments would help airlines to improve net profitability in 2018.

DYNAMIC AWARD PRICING OF BRITISH AIRWAYS AND AIR FRANCE-KLM POINT OF CONCERN FOR BUDGET CLASS TRAVEL-LERS British Airways already been criticized for cutting the leg space in its economy class, cutting free meals also closing down the service of providing amuse bouche that used to be served before dinner in first class. To save its repute the CEO Mr Alex Cruz announce that carrier would be updating its offers which would include more free meals, better wi-fi and 72 new planes. Beside this among its frequent flyer programs the changes may come from next year called dynamic award pricing in executive club. Which means that tickets paid for with points from the program will be no longer calculated in distance, but the cost the airline is selling the ticket at. This kind of similar scheme has been announced by the rival airlines Air France-KLM as a part of an overhaul of its Flying Blue Loyalty Programs.

NEW STRATEGY OF QATAR AIRWAY TO BECOME THE GLOBAL LEADER IN AVIATION INDUSTRY IN FUTURE Due to the blockade in the Middle East the airline giant of the region Qatar Airways is expand-ing outside the Middle East. In this array Qatar Airways bought 9.6% shares of Cathay Pacific. Since 2015 Qatar Airways has acquired 20% of IAG (a European group of airlines that flies nearly 100 m passengers per year), 10% of LATAM (Latin America’s Biggest Carrier) and 49% of Italian outfit, Meridiana. Not only this it has been invited by the Indian Government also to start up a new airline there with 100 jets. Such strategy was once adopted by its rival ETIHAD also where in it bought the shares of Air Berlin, Alitalia and Jet Airways. But the bankruptcy of Air Berlin and Alitalia lead to the heavy lose to Etihad. Most Airlines bosses predicted privately that the long haul international travel market will be controlled by three massive airline groups, OneWorld alliance (Qatar Airways main partner), Skyteam and Star- buying stakes in each other.

NEW AIR INDIA CHIEF ANNOUNCED Mr Pradeep Singh Kharola, the Karnataka Cadre IAS officer, has been an-nounced to take charge as new AIR INDIA chief. Although the airlines has already planned for its disinvestment. Finance Minister already announced that 86-87 percent of market share has been handled by private players, which can handle 100 percent also. Mr Kharola is believed to be a turna-round expert, but his role for new task assigned would be to keep the pace of the market of the Air India intact (i.e. 13-14 percent) till its disinvest-ment. The present chief Mr Rajeev Bansal was given the three – month extension on November 24, four days prior to Mr Kharola’s announcement.

IGI EXPECTED TO CROSS ITS TOTAL CAPACITY OF HANDLING PASSENGERS ANNUALLY Indira Gandhi International Airport is expected to cross its total capacity of 62 million passen-gers annually this year. During the year 2016/17 the figure was 57.7 million. It has three termi-nals T1, T2, T3. Although it has its expansion plans and would be ready by 2021. The expan-sion can be done in T1 from 20 million to 40 million annually. But till few months ago the T1 was operating 24 million passengers. For which the Delhi International Airport Limited sug-gested Indigo, GoAir and SpiceJet to move its part airlines to operate from terminal T2. For which GoAir shifted its 4 million passenger operations to T2 and brought back the Terminal T1 to its capacity of 20 million passengers annually. Indigo was reluctant to do so as it believe that this move would confuse the passengers. The decision was pending with Delhi High Court. Spicejet has reserved its decision and announced it would shift if other carriers would agree to shift to T2.

As per the report of the commercial space transportation department of the US Federal Aviation Administration, the total volume of the space industry in 2016 was USD 335 billion with annual increase of 5%. This industry is somewhat fresh in terms of business. Most of the business is due to the satellite launch-es. As far tourism is concerned the first tourist Dennis Tito paid Dollar 20 million for a ticket him-self to visit ISS. In US several companies are investing in space tourism. One of such companies is Virgin Galactic of American, which promises to send people to space in six months. The company would not send the tourist in full fledged orbit but sub orbital space flight. But tickets for such a flight are sold at a cheaper price for USD 250 million. Because of this affordable price there are so many people who are in queue for the space travel. Some of them are Lady Gaga, Tom Hanks and other Hollywood celebrities.

TOURISM TO GROW 30% MORE BY 2025 IN MACAU With an area of mere 30 square kilometers, Macau is expected to receive up to 40 million visitors in 2025, which represents an increase of almost 30% compared to last year where it received 30.9 million visitors. Macau is the only destination near China where gambling is allowed in public, therefore the main tourist arrivals in Macau are from mainland China. The moderate growth forecast referred to in the plan indicates an annual visitor increase of 3% to 5%.

TOKYO – ONE OF THE TOP DESTINATIONS FOR THE YEAR 2018 The Japan National Tourism Organization shared the selection of Tokyo by AFAR magazine as number one destination for Asian/Middle Eastern city to visit for 2018. This statement of the magazine is based on the survey results of over 160,000 AFAR readers. Tokyo is the host city for 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and expected to receive more numbers of visitors. The co-existence of long –honored traditions and never ending innovations are one of the rea-sons for the growing popularity of the city Tokyo. Also with the Michelin – starred restaurants in the world, Tokyo continues to attract visitors for world class dining, cultural experience and unmatched hospitality.

CYCLONE OCKHI GENERATED CONCERNS OF SHACK OWNERS IN GOA The high tides arose due the cyclone Ockhi lead to the destruction of so many shacks in the beaches of GOA. Due to which the Shack owners has asked the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authorities to allocate the shack much above the high tide line, had it be allotted according to their demand it would save much property, which lost due to the cyclone. In an other view of GCZMA, it is citing environmental concerns according to which is shacks are allocated as per the demands of the shack owned it would destroy the sand dunes and effect other environmental concerns, so it allocated the place right from where water starts. Clearing this stance of the GCZMA, the shack owners specifically mentioned that they would not harm the sand dunes since the structures are elevated on a platform.

ITDC URGES FOR THE UNITY OF STATES FOR GROWTH, PROFIT AND PROSPERITY The India Tourism Development Corporation management invited the state tourism board from pan India to discuss the strategies to promote the tourism in their respective states with the collaboration between ITDC and state tourism boards. At hotel Ashok, New Delhi the meeting was presided by Ms Ravneet Kaur, IAS, Chairperson and Managing Director for the ITDC in the presence of Mr Piyush Tiware, Director for commercial and Marketing at ITDC. Mr Shivdular Singh Dhillon, IAS, CEO for the Punjab Heritage Tourism Promotion Board and Mr Suman Thapa, SCS, CEP, Sikkim Tourism Development Board were among the senior delegates that attended the meeting. Delegates from the Tourism Board of Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Tripura. The main agenda of the meeting was to discuss the synergies for the collaboration between ITDC and state tourism authorities that can contribute to overall development of Tourism Industry in the country.

NEW MARKETING PARTNERSHIP WITH TECHNOLOGY FORMATION BETWEEN EXPEDIA AND G6 HOSPITALITY The Expedia Inc. officially announced a new Expedia powered technology partnership with the parent company of lodging brands Motel 6 and Studio 6, the G6 Hospitality. This partnership will provide G6 Hospitality the broad access to Expedia’s technology. Also with this strategic develop-ment Expedia Powered Technology will have the access to more than 1400 Motel 6 and Studio 6 properties across the US and Canada. The Expedia Market Management shall also work with G6 Hospitality, providing market insights an business intelligence to help properties drive demand on Expedia sites and ensure maximization of price and value. As per the senior vice president, global partner group, Expedia, G6 Hospitality has always been an innovation driver in the economy seg-ment of the lodging industry, as well as a great travel partner to Expedia, with an impressive port-folio of properties across the US and Canada.

NEW STRATEGY OF EXPANSION IN SMALLER CITIES BY CARLSON REZIDOR HOTEL As per the reports from The Hindu Business Line, Carlson Rezidor Hotel has accelerated its expansion by signing 12 new hotels in 2017. The group as 85 hotels in operation in the country out of its current number of 140. The group is focused on strengthening its presence in the South, particularly in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. In every four weeks a new hotel is signed and opened in every two months. Group is eyeing on smaller cites like Hosur, Visakhapat-nam, Udagamandalam and Coorg. A new hotel at Tirupati is also on cards. The CEO, South Asia, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group said the hospitality sector has emerged strong after demonetization, rollout of GST and liquor ban. New Hotels are coming up despite such hiccups, but efficiency has to be improved.

RICE BRAN OIL TO BE USED IN ALL RESTAURANTS OWNED BY KFC IN INDIA As per reports the restaurant chain KFC India said it would switch to rice bran oil as a cooking medium across its restaurants from early next year. This is a part of company’s efforts to improve the nutrition profile if its food. The testing is done firstly in the res-taurants across Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and New Delhi. During the first quarter of 2018 the company will switch its all restaurant from using palm oil to rice bran oil. It is known that restaurant uses 3600 tonnes of cooking oil every month across its 300 plus restaurants pan India. As per the statement of MD, KFC India, as a brand KFC continu-ously strive towards improving the nutrition profile of high quality food, without com-promise on great taste.

MANDATORY FSSAI CERTIFICATION FOR ORGANIC FOOD The Food Safety Regulator FSSAI may make its certification mandatory for organic food. With too many organic products available in the market there is need to keep an eye on these products. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India had released a unified regulation on Organic Foods during the Organic World Congress in India. Total area under organic certification in Indian has reached 5.71 million hectares and tops globally in terms of numbers of organic producers. The Food Safety and Stand-ards (organic foods) Regulations2017 covers under its ambit two existing systems of organic certification-national program for organic production and participatory guar-antee system for India. The regulation also provides for recognition of other certifica-tion system in the future.

CHANGE OF LEADERSHIP IN HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY Some of the top chains of hospitality industry see the major change in its top leadership in coming days. Kurt Straub, VP, operations for India at Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, is the latest to move on from his existing role. “Kurt Straub’s tenure at Hyatt hotels in India has come to an end and he movers out in January next year. Hilton is looking for a new head of operations for India as Andre A Gomez moves on to a different role while chains such as Taj and Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) recently announced new leadership ap-pointment. Sanjay Sethi, CEO of Chalet Hotels, resigned and joined ITC Hotels as its new COO. In November, IHCL, or the Taj Group, announced that Puneet Chhatwal had joined the company as its new MD and CEO.

4 MILLIONS JOBS IN 5 YEARS IN MEDIA & ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY: REPORT The CII-BCG Report Media and Entertainment Industry as the nucleus of India’s creative econo-my. As per its report this industry will be able to generate both direct and indirect employment of 4 million jobs in the next four to five years. The director general, CII said that the digital platforms are proliferating and there are tremendous opportunities that never existed before- especially for creators, storytellers and technology providers. Skilling is a major challenge as well as an oppor-tunity for Media and Entertainment industry as it can open new job prospects for young India. In-dustry also envisages the positive double figure growth in the next five years. The talent agenda is the key aspect for the expansion of the sector. To achieve this, there is the need for positive role to be played by the Government, academia and industry people.

Mullenlove Mediahub launch itself as Lintas Mediahub in India The renowned Mullenlowe Group has announced the entry of Mullenlowe Mediahub in India with the launch of Lintas Mediahub. ZEE TV TOPS IN HINDI GEC OVERALL: BARC REPORT With 675 million impressions Zee TV came back to lead Hindi GEC overall where as STAR Bharat placed itself on second spot with the impressions of total 657 million accord-ing to BARC. Kundali Bhagya and Kumkum Bhagya of Zee TV continued to be on top two places with 12.1 million and 11.3 million impressions respectively. Kya haal Mr Paanchal of Star Bharat took third place with 10.6 million impressions. Star Plus’ position remained unchanged at number three with 328 million impressions. Sony SAB an SET retained its fifth and sixth spot with 315.7 million and 273.7 million impressions respectively. Sony SAB’s popular show Taarak Mehta Ka Ultaa Chashma retained its third spot in this market.

LEADING MAHARASHTRA MEDIA GROUP LOKMAT TO START IN NEW DELHI TO MARKS ITS 100 YEARS OF EXISTENCE LOKMAT, the leading media group of Maharashtra enters its 100 years of existence this year. To mark this occasion the group has decided to enter the Delhi market and launch its Marathi edition for approx. 50,000 Marathi speaking market. Also it is all set to expand its digital base by launching news websites in various languages including Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, and some South Indian languages. FOR INDIA’S DIGITAL CONSUMERS GOOGLE SHARES AD SOLUTION ‘Google for India’, this was the third edition hosted by Google for a digital advertising track, bringing together industry experts, top advertisers and ad agencies to share insights on how digital has changed consumer behavior and is offering new opportunities to help businesses grow. As per the MD, YouTube / Video Global Solutions Google, spurred by growth in India’s internet and smartphone users and low data costs, there is huge demand for online video and today over 225 million Indians come to YouTube every month on mobile – making it the destination where brands can gain their attention. Due to the shift of youtube viewers to mobile and shows that 85% of its views are on mobile and is growing at 400 per cent year on year. To leverage this shift Google has offered some of the solution like TrueView for action that helps brands use their video ads to drive any online action.

GROWTH & HEALING WOULD BE THE TWIN TEST FOR SALIL PAREKH AT INFOSYS The newly appointed CEO of Infosys Salil Parekh would face the twin tests of Growth and Healing of the company at Infosys when he joins the company in January from its Paris-headquartered Capgemini. As CEO, he will have to achieve growth while being careful not to antagonize Infosys’ founders, who own about 12 percent of the company, but command an outsized say in its direction. After demonetization country has witnessed the all time high of 965 million digital transaction in the month of October 2017 as per RBI data. In fact Indian digital payments market is expected to grow past USD 500 billion by 2020, according to the Digital Payment in India 2020’ report by Google. Now the Government’s focus has been shifted from ex-panding the digital infrastructure to the safety of sensitive data stored on the same infrastructure. The Government has taken up the initiative of strengthening the security framework for smooth movement of electronic funds and prevention of fraud across financial platforms, as per the Deputy Director General (Security Assurance), Department of Telecommunications, Govt. of India.

ORACLE JOINS THE SERVERLESS FRAY WITH Fn Fn is a container native serverless platform that can be run on-premises or in the cloud. Initial-ly the Fn developers will be able to write functions in Java, later on they will be able to write in Go, Ruby, Python, PHP and Node.js support also. With the open source Fn project, Oracle is looking to make a splash in serverless computing. As its name, Fn depends heavily on func-tions. In a function developers focus just on just the task they want the function to perform. Amazon Web Services, AWS Lambda platform is the best example of serverless platform. Fn requires Docker 17.05 or later and a Docker Hub account.

EMAMI TO ACQUIRE 30% STAKE IN HELIOS LIFESTYLE PVT. LTD (THE MAN COMPANY) For an undisclosed amount Emami is acquiring 30 percent of stakes in The Man Company, Helios Lifestyle Pvt. Ltd. Company. Helios owns the male grooming brand ‘ The Man Compa-ny’ which sells a range of premium grooming product for bath & body, beard, shaving and per-fume and sold online through the company’s own website. With this Emami has entered the fast growing male grooming products. Currents Emami has only its two male brands, Fair and Handsome and HE. As per the Director, Emami Ltd. While many start ups entered the male grooming segment in last two years, they focus mainly on beard or any specific grooming seg-ment of men. Helios is different from them as it provides complete product portfolio for men by offering head – to – toe range of grooming products.

FOR CHINESE INVESTMENT SINGAPORE TOP DESTINATION, INDIA AT 37TH

Among 60 main economies in terms of the attractiveness of the Chinese firms for invest-ment, India slipped 6 positions down and placed on 37th position. Where as Singapore tops the list. According to the latest EIU’s China going global index, Singapore overtook the US as the most attractive destination fore Chinese overseas direct investment. Hong Kong, Ma-laysia and Australia make the top five list. Among BRIC economies, Russia’s index rank moved up by six places to 11th where as Brazil dropped by 19 places to 53rd place. As per EIU report, despite challenges for Chinese investors in India, the country’s growth prospects are the brightest across major economies and several Chinese companies such as Huawei and Xiaomi have built successful businesses there.

STARBUCKS OPENS THEIR LARGEST CAFE IN SHANGHAI The US based giant Starbuck has opened its largest café in the world in Shanghai. The opening of two storey outlet in a busy central shopping district was thronged by hundreds of customers, some waiting more than an hour in long lines stretching outside for a block in scenes reminiscent of a hyped – up new iphone release. The café is extending up 2700 square meters nearly half the are of a soccer field. It has already more than 3000 of its standard café in 136 Chinese cities, including more than 600 in shanghai alone.

POSTPAID GROCERY SHOPPING LAUNCHED BY GROFERS The low price online supermarket Grofers has launched Postpaid Grocey Shoping in its industry first initiative to help customers to avoid deferring their purchase to their initial salary days of the month. With the collaboration of Simpl in its payment method, customers can contin-ue to purchase grocery and other items at any time during the month and pay the entire amount with just one bill at the end of the month. Initially it would be given only to the loyal customers of Grofers and after its successful establishment it would be given to all customers. To ease the payment on the delivery processes earlier Grofers had also partnered with Sodexo.

TO REFLECT INCREASED FOCUS ONLINE WALMART CHANGES ITS LEGAL NAME Walmart announced plans to change the company’s legal name from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to Walmart Inc. effective Feb.1, 2018 to reflect its growing status as an omni channel retailer. This name change basically demonstrates the company’s emphasis on serving customers seamlessly however they want to shop: in stores, online, on their mobile device, or through pickup and delivery. Walmart operates under nearly 60 different banners around the worldm including ecommerce sites, and has more than 11600 stores and clubs in 28 countries. The company opened its first international location in Mexico City in 1991 and launched Walmart.com in 2000.

JAPAN – ONE OF THE LEADING AREAS FOR BUSINESS EVENTS The Otemachi, Marunochi and Yurakucho areas of Tokyo is one of the areas in Tokyo where meeting spaces, exhibition halls and hotels are located closely to each other and are working together in order to positively attract business events to Tokyo. Tokyo Marunouchi Area represents the first time that the regulations needed to use public spaces for business events have been created, making Marunouchi Nakadori Street a very special event space. This area is constantly developing. The new Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry building which is currently under construction will make a debut in October 2018. L&T DELAY IN HYDERABAD METRO PROJECT – MAY COST OVER RS 4600 CR MORE The engineering major Larson and Toubro has sought extension of 2 more years to complete the metro project in Hyderabad. This delay has increased the cost of the project from over 14100 crores to 18800 crores. Hyderabad Metro is a 72 km long ele-vated rail line and the largest ever undertaken by L&T. The pro-ject was to complete on April 2016, but now it will be complet-ed by November 2018. Recently L&T had asked for additional time of two years. However the Telangana Government agreed to extend the deadline only till November 2018. The Hyderabad Metro project has been divided into three corridors and they will be rolled out in three phases.

SBI LIFE BETS ON METALS, OIL AND GAS SECTORS FOR INVESTMENT GROWTH
