Hi Folks,
Welcome to this edition of the Voice, which may be the
last you will receive in this format! Unfortunately we no
longer get funding to print the Voice, and despite trying to
keep the cost down by printing it in the office we still can-
not afford the cost. As from May 2011 the voice will be
available on your computer. It will be available on Face-
book, you can access it by going to your Facebook page
and entering Beacon Partnership in the search box. We
hope by going to the internet we will attract more younger
readers as well as our present supporters. For those of you
who do not have a computer or do not use the internet, we
will still print a special paper copy and deliver it to your
door. If you wish to have the paper copy delivered please
fill in the form on page 21 and
return it to the resource office. We hope this does not
inconvenience you too much and you still continue to
enjoy the “Voice” both on line and in its old format. To see
if you like the new on line version you will find this edi-
tion is already available on the Facebook page, so why not
login and have a go. Any problems getting into Facebook
call Nicky at the office.

L.L.A.M.A NEWS
Hi Folks,
Well now hopefully the bad weather is well and truly behind us.
In our last letter we hoped we would not have had to use the grit bins that were
put in place, well that was wishful thinking on our part.
We hope everyone coped and there were no injuries.
L.L.A.M.A would like to thank Curtis Popo who lives at number 5 Trecarne
for his help on gritting the roads for us. He did this at 4am before he went to
work.
We have also sent him a letter thanking him for his effort.
A new application has been sent to Sita from Falmouth Town Council for
2011/2012 for phase three of the development on the play park.
Hopefully we may be granted £25,000 from them plus £5,000 from the
Council,
If this is awarded then phase three could start soon, so just watch this space.
The council has agreed to the remedial work of removing the fence around the
all weather pitch, removal of fence/hedge in front of Trecarne and the paths to
be renovated also the all weather pitch will be cleaned.
Sainsburys has agreed to pay for bollards which will be sited just off the entry
to the play park. Two will be fixed and one bendable for access to fire and res-
cue or ambulance if needed
As you might have seen the memorial play equipment has been removed and
is being restored , this will be replaced on completion of phase three.
The events committee are currently looking at maybe another cream tea after-
noon, and another funday. Please let us know what you would like.

Parking on the estates and roads around the estates has always been a problem. It is
just a fact that when built in the 70s, 60s, and 50,s (and in some cases even earlier),
most households had a single car. That is very far from the case now where most
households have two, three or even four cars. This means parking in the area is at a
premium.
It is unfortunate that as residents there is no automatic right to park outside your home:
whether you are a tenant or a resident. In fact if you have the luxury of permission to
have installed a hard standing to park your car, you have no right of access to that hard
standing. If someone parks in front of that hardstanding that is their right. Unless of
course highways have painted parking restricted lines due to disability access.
On certain estates there is an issue that is causing greater scarcity of parking spaces and
that is towed vehicles, such as caravans, trailers and boats being left by the side of the
road. Carrick Housing have no control over this nor parking in any form. This is
purely a Highways matter and if the vehicle is causing an obstruction or is parked ille-
gally then it is a police matter.
Unfortunately this type of parking is getting worse and causing complaints to come
through to Carrick Housing. Therefore the matter of towed vehicles parked by the side
of the road is to be highlighted to highways. They do have the power to enforce the
owners to remove these “vehicles” from the highway.
It is very unfortunate that this action is going to have to be taken but priority on the
very restricted parking that is available to residents has to be for cars and vans of the
residents of the estates. I hope the vast majority of those that read this understand the
need for this.

Apply now for Falmouth Cadets! Falmouth Police are joining in on the success of other areas around the force by opening applications for their
Community Police Cadet scheme.
The cadet scheme is open to all young people regardless of their career ambitions or capabilities. Cadets will
develop skills and confidence that will be of benefit to communities and employers. Falmouth Community
Police Cadets will meet at Penryn Sports College on a fortnightly basis.
The scheme is open to 13-16 year olds as a joining age, however, cadets will not be required to leave until
their 18th birthday, when they will be encouraged to continue volunteering in the community. The cadets will
develop valuable life skills such as communication, team working and an understanding of community issues.
Cadets will be taught about the law, police procedures (e.g. arrest, custody, missing people, radio procedure),
and they will get the opportunity to learn about what some of our specialist units do.
Cadets might have the opportunity to assist local policing teams with tasks such as attending family commu-
nity events, fun days, or police events, letter drops, test purchasing of alcohol and cigarettes, crime prevention
and more.

from the enquiry office at Falmouth Police Station on Dracaena Avenue.
NEW PACT process! Falmouth Police are trialling a new process for delivering PACT to the Falmouth area called 'Have your
say...'. PACT (Partners And Communities Together) was implemented to gain the public‟s opinion on what
the focus of local service providers should be directed towards. It became evident that the previous PACT
process was not reaching the majority of the Falmouth population with low attendance at the PACT meetings.
'Have your say...' boxes had been placed in strategic locations around Falmouth with forms for members of
the public to fill out and return. Twice yearly, boxes will be placed out for a month before they are collected
back in and sheets counted. The top three priorities will then be taken on as PACT priorities. Forms have
been distributed in a variety of ways; some examples include retail outlets, schools and local newsletters.
It is our hope that, from the returns, we will get a more representative view of the issues which affect the local
population, if any. The reason I say this is because the is now a tick box for 'I have no significant priorities'.
With a high return of this box ticked, the service providers will be able to show that Falmouth is a wonderful
place to live.
This month‟s ‘Have your say...’ has ended and boxes have been collected back in. The results will be pub-
lished soon through various media sources. The next ‘Have your say..’ will be advertised closer to the time.
Falmouth Police Facebook site launched!
Falmouth Police have launched their own Face book page. The page is designed to not only give
information about the activities of your local Police service but to also give users visiting the page the
chance to join in with discussions and debates. Other items of note to be posted on the page will include:

You can also find us „Tweeting‟ on Twitter as „Falmouth Police’!

Please do not report crimes or incidents which require an immediate response, the site is not moni-
tored every day and could lead to undue delays in the service you require.
Government ‘Crime Data’ website launched!
www.police.uk is a new website developed by the Home Office to offer the public a break down
on what crimes are happening in your area. Simply put your postcode into the prompt box and the site
will show you a map detailing crimes in and around your area. Please note that crimes are placed cen-
trally on a street and not where the crimes have occurred!
Change of scenery
PC Mat Cummins will now be taking over the duties of Neighbourhood Beat Manager for the
Trescobeas ward of Falmouth. PC Cummins has been working the Penwerris beat for the past four years
and has a strong relationship with the Beacon Partnership. PC Cummins will be looking after the beat
from now on in dependant on the large-scale reshuffling of the Devon and Cornwall Polices resources.
PC Andy Hocking has now assumed a similar arrangement for the Boslowick ward.

The former Bishop of Ebbsfleet, Fr Andrew Burnham, resigned from the Church of England at the end of last year and has been received in the Roman Catholic Church. So we are
now under the sacramental care of the Bishop of Plymouth, the Rt Revd John Ford, who has been made an Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Truro. Bishop John is already known to our parish as he came to confirm our candidates last September at our Patronal Festi-
val . By the time this information is printed we will have begun our Bible Study on the Acts of the Apostles, which we will be following for the next five months ... these will take place on a Sunday evening @ 5.00 pm a couple of times per month and at both our churches -

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, the 9th March this year, and will be observed (by imposi-tion of ashes) at our mid-week Eucharist at the Mission Church of the Holy Spirit @ 10.00

Sunday 13th March is the 1st Sunday of Lent as we begin six weeks of preparation for Easter, our Parish Mass is @ 10.00 every Sunday. Why give God some of your time this
Lent and join us for our Sunday morning services? These finish by 11.15 am at the latest. Every Friday in Lent we have a ‘Hunger’ (frugal) Lunches at the Laburnum Hall between 12
noon and 1.00 pm, followed by a short devotional talk. The first one is on Friday 11th March and the last one on Friday 15th April. We had some very interesting talks last year. Every Friday evening of Lent we also have Stations of the Cross at St Michael & All Angels’
Church, Penwerris @ 7.00 pm. The final Sunday of Lent is Palm Sunday, 17th April, which also marks the beginning of Holy
Week (with the blessing of palms). During this week we have a daily service and a fully copy of our programme is available from the parish priest. We will also be holding our
Annual Parochial Church Meeting after Mass @ 11.30 am, during which we will elect new Churchwardens and people to service on our Parochial Church Council for the next year.
Easter Sunday falls on the 24th April this year, for us Easter begins with the Vigil Service the
evening before @ 7.30 pm. On Easter Sunday morning our Mass of the Resurrection is at our
normal time of 10.00 am. During the Easter Octave (a period of eight days) we have a daily
Mass, which apart from the Wednesday, which takes place at our Mission Church of the Holy
Spirit, will be at St Michael & All Angels, Penwerris. The Easter Octave, which is a special pe-
riod of celebration, ends on Sunday 1st May, but the Eastertide season now extends till Pente-
cost (Whit Sunday) 50 days after Easter Sunday. All communicant members (those who have
been confirmed) of the Church of England should make their Holy Communion at least once
during the season of Easter.
