Vocational Education and Training (VET) is a learning pathway available to students 15 years of age and above in Senior Secondary. VET provides students with the opportunity to engage in education and training which may lead to employment and/or further study. It is a great way to have a taster of a particular industry. At Nambour State College we are extremely proud of the variety of options that we have available for students to participate in. We offer both internal and external vocational courses that are relevant and rewarding – Agriculture, Visual Art, Business, Dance, Hair & Beauty, Health, Hospitality, Sports & Recreation and a variety of trades. Why Study This Way? Students will be able to reach their full potential through positive education studies, activities and learning experiences both at school and in the workplace. They will be able to study a number of different courses, that are on a direct pathway or study a mixture of courses from the General syllabuses, Applied syllabuses or VET certificates. Successful completion of VET provides students with nationally recognised qualifications that deliver the skills and knowledge required for specific industries and occupations. All of our qualifications are nationally recognised and comply with the Australian Qualifications Framework. Students commencing nationally recognised industry qualifications whilst at school are more successfully able to transition to pathways such as apprenticeships and traineeships, full time employment or further training /study, not excluding University pathways once school is completed. How Will It Work? VET qualifications can be undertaken in Years 10, 11 and 12 and will provide credit towards students Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). Benefits of participating in VET include (but are not limited to): Obtaining practical experience from work; Gaining familiarity on how workplaces operate; Developing employability skills; Developing and improving interpersonal skills; Allowing students to explore the potential career path they would like to pursue. VETiS Funding VETiS qualifications are funded by the VET investment budget. Students undertaking VETiS, can complete one employment stream qualification at the certificate I or II level. (One bite of the cherry). The only school subjects that utilises VETiS funding are Certificate I in Construction and Certificate II Engineering pathways (you can complete both subject courses using VETiS). Students are unable to complete the above courses and another VETiS funded course for free (eg. Certificate II Plumbing at TAFE as it is also course funded by VETiS). Students are able to still participate, but will have to pay the full fee for the course.
