There can be only one strong vowel per syllable. When these combine with other weak vowels, they join to form a dipthong (a one-syllable vowel combination).
The vowels and are considered “weak” because when they are combined with weak or strong vowels, they also form a dipthong.

Pistas para recordarHere are more tips for pronouncing well:
• Keep your vowels CLEAN, and be extra careful with vowels (like “o/e/a”) at the ends of words, where we (angloparlantes/English-speakers) tend to get lazy!
Ejemplos: “hermano” (≠ ”-ou”), “inteligente” (≠ “-ei”), “escuela” (≠ “-uh”)
• Pronounce EVERY LETTER… cognates are similar in spelling and meaning, not pronunciation
Ejemplos: “teléfono”, “invitación”, “usar la computadora”
(Also, remember, the“h” is silent… “İHola!”, “hotel”, “hospital”)
• Pay attention to accent marks – They tell you which syllable to emphasize.
If a word has an accent mark, put emphasis on the part that’s marked.
(This means get louder or make your tone go up slightly. Reading in Spanish is easy if you use the accent marks!)

Why the accent?
