ABSTRACT
• The original Murid territory corresponds to the triangle Diourbel-Darou Mousty-
Colobane organized by Sheikh Ahmad Bamba. It gradually expanded to other areas of
Senegal, including the Groundnut Basin.
• From the 1970s onwards, the desire to access resources lacking in the campaign led
the disciples to conquer the Dakar urban World and secondary cities before
emigrating to the rest of the world.
• My presentation deals with how Mouride religious guides manage to maintain a
strong bond with their disciples and to involve them in the construction of Touba.

MOURIDISME ET EXODE RURAL : AFFIRMATION DU DAHIRA EN MILEU URBAIN
• The Dahira is an association which brings together Mouride disciples
either on the basis of particular marabout allegiances or on the
basis of the place where they are located or of the professional
activity.
• The paternity of this type of organization belongs to the Quadir and
Tidjanes
THE DAHIRA: A CONFRERIC INSTITUTION IN THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT
• The Dhaira replaces the fields of Wednesday dedicated to the Marabout
• Organization modelled on the carving of the city and the sectors of activity giving the name
by the Marabout
• Pyramid Structure: Young, female; Adults
• See Sophie Bava: The urban Dhaira, Muridism's Place of power
• Redefinitions of relationships with the Mbacké family initiated by intellectuals (AAU/Hizbut
Tarquiyaa/Sheikh Bamba Dièye/etc.
• Legitimacy not inherited by the opening of worship and cultural spaces: universality of the
muridism, emphasis on education and dissemination of the works of the Sheikh
• Participation in the construction of Touba: Hospital Matlaboul Fawzeyni de Touba
MOURIDISM AND EMIGRATION
• Today Mouride communities are located abroad where they have
developed commercial activities on the basis of their confreric network.
These Dahira favoured economic enterprises first in Marseille, Paris and
Strasbourg around the 1970s (Salem 1981) before winning other cities on
the planet (Ebin 1992 & 1995: Schmidt di Friedberg 1994). This type of
commercial activity is the result of a recomposition based on the
relocation and migratory pathways of the disciples.
• Murid Transnationalism-the life shared between two spaces-translates a
learned exploitation of the economic and the religious culture who are at
the service of each other.
Make a tributary of all that is well-being and benefit of the heritage of the SIX coasts of the planet to my abode the blessed
Touba: Ch A Bamba.
