WHAT IF THE HAIR IS ALREADY LIGHT?• When your client is naturally as light as the suggested level of lift, the hair will still require the use of Pure Light

Power Lightener to create the perfect canvas. • Applying PRAVANA Pure Light Power Lightener mixed with Zero Lift Developer for just a few minutes will create

anchoring sites to which the VIVIDS and PASTELS can adhere. • If applied to the natural hair, the shade would be correct but the color would last only for a couple of shampoos.

INSUFFICIENTLY PRE-LIGHTENED HAIRHere are some thoughts to keep in mind when preparing the hair to be pre-lightened: When the hair is lifted past the recommended levels, and a VIVIDS shade is applied, a very bright, almost neon version of ChromaSilk VIVIDS color will be seen. Over-lightening the hair will also result in shortening the life of VIVIDS.

The lifting guideline was created to expose just the right amount of underlying pigment to give richness and longevity to the VIVIDS shades. When the hair has not been sufficiently lifted and too much of the underlying pigment is still present, it can greatly alter the result, sometimes changing the color or making it appear muddy.

For example, if you want to use Blue and you have not sufficiently lifted through the yellow in the hair there may be some green showing through. As we know from referring back to the color wheel that Yellow + Blue = Green.

VIVIDS ADDITIVES

NOTE: When adding BLACK or CLEAR to color formulas, lighten according to the VIVIDS color being mixed.

VIVIDS Clear is available to dilute the VIVIDS Collection color to make a more pastel shade. Add chosen VIVIDS Color to VIVIDS Clear until the desired color is achieved. Whenever custom formulating, start with the lightest color first.

Specially formulated to deepen, darken or dim any VIVIDS shade. When adding to the more vibrant VIVIDS shades, VIVIDS Black helps to create deeper, richer, jewel-toned shades. When adding to the lighter, more pastel shades VIVIDS Black will create smokey, antique versions of the pastels that you love. The realm of color possibilities just got a little deeper. Start with your VIVIDS shade you wish to deepen. Add VIVIDS Black in small amounts and mix well until you have reached your desired depth of tone.

PROCESSING STEPS 1. Pre-lighten hair using Pure Light Power Lightener to the desired level of lift. 2. Apply VIVIDS directly to clean, dry hair without mixing with any developer.3. Process for 20-30 minutes at room temperature.4. Shampoo lightly with VIVIDS Color Protect Shampoo and rinse with cool water until water runs clear.

VIVIDS LOCKED-IN APPLICATIONDue to the fact that Locked-In colors are meant to “lock-in”, they do not work through the hair in the same way that our classic VIVIDS do and need special care when applying and rinsing.

• Take smaller sections to ensure complete saturation of your strands.

• Apply ample product to the strand with your tint brush. They can be worked down the strand but, unlike our classic VIVIDS, they cannot be squeezed out from the hair to be worked down the strand. There needs to be enough product to saturate the entire desired length of application.

• VIVIDS Locked-In colors are a unique, new innovation that enables them to “lock-in” place without fear of transfer. The proprietary formula contains an extraordinary ingredient that actually seals the Locked-In Color into the hair, preventing them from transferring or bleeding. The sealant creates a glossy, slick barrier that may be felt on the hair if it has not been properly rinsed with very cool water, until the feel of the hair comes through again, then shampoo.

VIVIDS APPLICATION

REMOVING VIVIDS• VIVIDS are extremely long-lasting. It’s important that salon clients understand

that these colors cannot be easily removed from the hair and in most cases will remain vibrant in the hair for 3 -12 weeks.

• VIVIDS are non-oxidative. The Artificial Hair Color Extractor will not work on these types of dyes.

• If the VIVIDS Color is no longer desired, the best remedial action is to lighten the color using PRAVANA’s Pure Light Power Lightener mixed with Zero Lift.

• Apply this mixture to the color and allow it to remain on the hair for only five minutes. This will not remove the VIVIDS Collection color but will lighten the color to a point where you can then deposit over the color with a more natural shade of hair color.

Mimic the multi-faceted, understated tones of a jewel with this technique that applies the Jewel tones horizontally.

COLOR PALETTE: ChromaSilk VIVIDS Amethyst, Blue Topaz and Emerald.

STEP-BY-STEP:

1. Use Pure Light Power Lightener to get hair to a Level 10.

2. Shampoo with THE PERFECT BLONDE Shampoo and towel dry the hair. Apply Express Tones Violet to damp hair and allow to process 5 minutes. This creates a pearly purple base for your Jewel of the Nile application. Rinse and condition with THE PERFECT BLONDE Conditioner.

3. Mist NEVO Intense Therapy onto the hair, then dry the hair completely.

4. Section the hair into quadrants, and begin in the nape, taking diagonal-back subsections.

5. You’ll be applying VIVIDS Amethyst 1-2” from the scalp until you reach the top of the head. In alternating slices as you move up the head, switch between a slice of pre-lightened hair and a slice where you’ll apply VIVIDS Blue Topaz from where the VIVIDS Amethyst left off to the mid-shaft, then VIVIDS Emerald through the mid-shaft, finishing with VIVIDS Blue Topaz through the remaining ends. Use a PRAVANA Meche Sheet to separate the two slices from each other.

6. Go back and apply VIVIDS Amethyst to the rest of the pre-lightened hair slices that had previously been left out.

7. Moving into the sides, repeat step 5 + 6 until you reach the top of the head.

8. Once you reach the top of the head, you will have a diamond section stretching from the crown to the apex of the head. Apply VIVIDS Amethyst to this remaining top section from scalp to ends. Process for 20-30 minutes at room temperature.

9. Rinse the hair with cool water, shampoo and condition the hair with VIVIDS Color Protect and style as desired.

CREATE CUSTOM COLORS WITH LOCKED-INS BY MIXING IN THE BOWLS PRIOR TO APPLICATION UNTIL A UNIFORM COLOR IS FORMED.

1. Choose your Locked-In color palette. Depending on the colors chosen, pre-lighten hair to the appropriate lift-to level with PRAVANA’s Pure Light Power Lightener. For a true Tie-Dye look, it is suggested to lighten the hair to the point where it looks white. ChromaSilk Express Tones are encouraged and can be utilized before VIVIDS application for an icy white base.

2. Dry hair completely and section it off in 2-4 inch square blocks. Tie an elastic hair band loosely at the base of the section. Continue tying elastic hair bands down the section.

3. Depending on how much white you desire to show through, tie some material over the previously tied pieces: burlap, ribbon, fabric, etc. The larger the piece, the more blank canvas will show through.

4. Apply 1-2 colors in between each two tied off sections. If two colors are used, blend slightly right where the two meet. For Tie-Dye you don’t want to over-blend the colors. Keep in mind that Locked-In Colors stay put where they are placed. If you do want to blend, do it immediately after applied to the hair.

5. Continue applying Locked-In colors working up the head. Process color for 20-30 minutes at room temperature.

6. Rinse hair thoroughly with no fear of bleeding or transfer onto the blonde pieces. Shampoo and Condition hair with VIVIDS Color Protect aftercare.

Using PRAVANA VIVIDS, PRAVANA Guest Artist and celebrity colorist Danny Moon created a Sahara Sunset-inspired hair color technique on popular beauty vlogger Brittany Balyn. Blending custom shades of rich blue, purple, soft pink, magenta, yellow and orange, Moon’s melt is reminiscent of the fiery sunset festival-goers see as twilight approaches in the heart of the desert.

STEP-BY-STEP:1. Use Pure Light Power Lightener to start with clean, dry,

pre-lightened hair at a level 10.

2. Apply Formula 1 to stitched out strands in a square pattern around the top of the head. (NOTE: Two formulas of blue will be used at the scalp for dimension.)

3. Apply Formula 2 to the remaining base and longer ends of stitched out strands.

4. Apply Formula 3 to the top of the mid-shaft and blend into Formula 2.

5. Apply Formula 4 to the bottom of the mid-shaft and blend with Formula 3.

6. Apply Formula 5 to the ends, leaving an inch or two out. Blend with Formula 4.

7. Alternate applying Formula 5 and Formula 6 through the remaining ends, blending where the colors meet.

8. Add VIVIDS Locked-In Pink for a pop of color over mid-shaft and ends of choice strands.

9. Process 20-30 minutes at room temperature. Rinse with cool water. Shampoo, condition and protect with VIVIDS Color Protect.
