Chapter 1: What is a Surgical Grade Monitor?
An office environment is much different from a hospital patient’s room, which is very different from an OR. Surgical grade monitors are significantly different from computer monitors and even vital sign monitors in the way they are designed. Surgical grade monitors are designed specifically for the high demands of the surgical environment:
One key differentiation between a surgical monitor and computer monitor issomething you won’t see-vents. In a surgical grade monitor, you won’t see any vents because these monitors are designed to protect against cross contamination. Cooling without fans or vents eliminates the risk of themonitors blowing particulate matter into the sterile field.
• Incredibly fast image responseEliminates image lag to help improvesurgeon visualization
• Crisp, clear imagesIncredible resolution, brightness, & con-trast yield eye-popping realistic images
• Vendor-neutral versatilityAccepts a wide range of video inputs to eliminate format conversion costs and image degradation
• Helps prevent cross-contaminationCompletely sealed, splash-proof design iseasy to clean
• Designed for patient vicinityLow voltage from the ceiling on down so there is no risk of high voltage exposure to patient or staff
• Strength and durabilityAluminum cases, sealed membraneswitches, and protective monitor surface filters are designed especially for the rigors of the OR
• Optimized weight and sizeDesigned for operating room ceiling arm systems
• Medically compliantMeets medical safety regulations andrequirements for medical devices in the OR
