Central Harlem– Beatrice Lewis Senior Center EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS MESSAGE

Greetings CHSCC Community,

In the recognition and spirit of Black History Month, here are some

quotes from esteemed leaders/teachers/ancestors that speak for them-

selves:

“...for 500 years we have lived in a European –conceived intellectual

universe. I am willing to acknowledge that I am influenced by this con-

ception, but I am at least , at war against it because I realize that it is not

only detrimental to my people, it is detrimental to the whole world.

Dr. John Henrik Clarke

“I am not educated, nor am I an expert in any particular field… But I am

sincere and my sincerity is my credential.”

The Honorable El Haj Malik Shabazz (Malcom X)

“ I’ve learned that people will forget what you said , people will forget

what you did but people will never forget how you make them FEEL.”

Maya Angelou

“The American Negro must remake his past in order to make his fu-

ture… History must restore what slavery took away.”

Arthuro Alfonso Schomburg

“ Blackman, Wake Up ! “

Dr. Yosef Ben – Jochannan (a cherished member of CHSCC)

Peace and Blessings

Ralph Dumont

“ Freedom Walk”

- Charlise F.

Freedom;

They say we’ll never get it.

I believe when people hear

The colored side of the story-

“Injustice anywhere is an insult to justice everywhere.”

They chant and throw objects

But I’m not giving up.

I feel like I could walk

All night for freedom. Cops

Yell and block the roads

To go back. Groups of Caucasians

Chant in our faces,

And holdup signs,

But all I can say is

“Keep walking”
