The benefits of cotton casing.Cotton is the traditional material used for high quality tubulars. Vittoria produces all its casing products in-house with a wide range of cross-sections, from natural cotton to 220 TPI for its tubular range.A fabric made from finely woven thin yarns to get a softer and more flexible casing offering amazing grip thanks to greater contact surface with the road. Better comfort too, as micro impacts are absorbed better. Plus faster speeds, thanks to better rolling resistance.The density of the fabric is expressed in threads-per-inch (TPI): the higher the TPI, the finer the threads and the denser the weave. The higher the TPI, the more flexible the tire. Cotton is incredibly tough and fine, letting us produce casings with the highest possible TPI. That’s why there is no faster tire than the Vittoria Corsa CX.Vittoria holds a special record: the first to produce a casing with 320 TPI (threads-per-inch).

Perfectly adapted for every road.Vittoria’s unique Corespun casings are the product of years of experience, clever R&D, and advanced production technology, proven by millions of kilometers of racing. The basis material is made of superfine polycotton threads.These threads have a polyester core overspun with cotton. This dense weave is then encased in latex.Corespun casings differ in thread size and additive content, according to intended use.

Cotton 220 TPI Cotton is the traditional material of high-quality racing tubulars. Vittoria produces casings in the finest grade of natural cotton, 220 TPI, for a range of top-class tubulars for road and track, in every size.

Corespun 290 TPI Evolution of cotton with polyester, high TPI number for a flexible and strong casing who gives an high level of confort. It allows high tire pressure.

Corespun 320 TPI is the industry’s most advanced polycotton casing, made of the a new, finer, stronger thread that requires no added Kevlar®, allowing cotton’s uniquely supple and resilient quality to shine through.

Corespun K 320 TPI has an admixture of Kevlar® threads for casings where strength is of the essence, as in our Pavé tubulars and tires.

Corespun T 320 TPI utilizes the finest thread available, exclusive to Vittoria. This special 320 TPI fabric makes for the lightest, supplest and fastest casing ever, capable of withstanding the extreme pressures needed for track and crono tubulars.

Lightweight nylon.Nylon is a robust and durable artificial fibre used by most manufacturers for utility tire casings.Traditionally, it lacked the flexibility of the polycotton casings preferred by élite riders but was lighter in weight than polycotton threads. Now Vittoria has succeeded in engineering nylon yarn into our exclusive Nylon Plus 220 and 150 TPI weave, setting a new standard in each class of clincher tires. Weight is cut by 10% over the previous best nylon casings, while road feel and rolling resistance approach closer to the top-performing polycotton open tubulars.Vittoria also offers casings in Nylon 120 TPI, Nylon 60 TPI, and Nylon 26 TPI, each equipping a family of tires at its respective point on t he price-performance scale, and all conferring the Vittoria characteristics of comfort, speed, and good handling.

Two years in development, our new Isogrip tread compound was put to the most severe test of all, WorldTour racing. radial construction RADIALEVittoria has expanded its nylon casing technology with radial casing. Radial casing is different to conventional casing. The cord plies of radial casing are set at 85° to the direction of travel (from bead to bead) making that the cords deform freely as the tire flexes. In conventional casing, the cords overlap diagonally to the direction of travel, causing more friction between the two plies. Due to the direction of the cords, the tire gains flexibility resulting in more comfort and grip. The flexible casing means, the width of the tire is reduced by 1mm making it a lighter, more aerodynamic and therefore faster tire. Radial casing is Vittoria’s premium of nylon casing technology, exclusive to our Diamante tires.

Revo.KXS is a unique tire, a bravura exposition of all Vittoria’s leading technologies. The superfine, flexible casing, in Vittoria’s exclusive 290 TPI polycotton/Kevlar® mix, has a tread applied to each face. One face has a slick tread in our Kevlar-reinforced compound, for outright speed and grip; the reverse has our unique, wet-weather compound with fine diamond centre and ribbed shoulders to shed water. According to season or event, the tire can be reversed to suit prevailing conditions.Each tread is backed with Vittoria’s famed puncture-resistant belt, so whichever tread is in use has double flat-protection. Tubular.Tubular technology ensures performance far beyond comparison to classic MTB tires, whether Tubed or Tubeless. The perfectly round cross-section enabled by “tubed” construction, of course, combined in Geax version with the Corespun casings derived directly from street version models gives our tubulars performance that puts any other competitor in the shade. Although others may claim record-breaking weights, our detailed knowledge of tubulars acquired in over 50 years of development has shown us that the greatest advantages lie elsewhere: the best grip on any course and extremely low rolling resistance that is much lower than even tubeless tires, combined with unbeatable reliability and riding comfort.Constructed entirely by hand using the long renowned and multiple award-winning Corespun 290TPI casing and a special 50 Shore A compound, this has by now become the benchmark for anyone in search of the absolute highest performance at no expense to reliability as in all the Geax range.Versions available: Saguaro, Gato, and Mezcal. Compatible only with specific rim for MTB tubulars.

Clincher.All Geax tires have been designed and developed to meet the specific needs of specific mountain bike applications. Geax has different versions for each model of tire: foldable, rigid, tubeless (UST), TNT (tubenotube).

Geax TNT tire allows for up to 100g saving compared to a standard tubeless and the reinforced sidewalls give an unbeatable cut resistance. TNT tires, used as tubeless on UST rims with Pit Stop cartridge or with liquid latex Pit Stop TNT pluses: low inflating pressures, higher stability when cornering, lower rolling resistance, virtually no pinch flats, tire bead firmly locked on rim edge and easy inflation with a standard pump being lighter and stronger than standard tubeless. A Pit Stop cartridge contains only 35g of foam, as effective as 50-60g of liquid latex. When mounted on a tubeless rim, with the addition of Geax Pit Stop or other latex sealant, a TNT tire is lightweight and reliable. Using a TNT tire with an inner tube is also a very good choice for somebody sticking to more “traditional tire + tube systems”, looking for a reinforced tire without having to carry the weight penalty.

Winning Technologies.

The perfectly round, pneumatic system known as a tubular adheres directly onto a tubular specific rim. Inside, the latex inner tube increases air permeability making it stronger against punctures, while maintaining high flexibility for minimal rolling resistance. The tread is hand-laminated over the casing, requiring no high temperatures during construction; a unique process reserved for premium tubulars. Due to the perfectly round profile (constant casing radius), cornering is more predictable and more confidence-inspiring than with clinchers, which do not maintain a constant casing radius due to the mechanical limitations of a hook and bead system. Shock absorption is also maximized. A tubular has a wide gluing surface on the rim, spreading forces and stresses more evenly on its structure than on a clincher tire... this allows the tubular to absorb imperfections without deflecting or slowing down.

All the properties and features of our XC casings are present in the UST tubeless version, which also benefits from the butyl inner liner that provides air retention, allowing it to be used without inner tubes or even sealant!The butyl liner on the Geax UST tires coats the interior, not the exterior as do our maincompetitors. This location maximizes the reliability of the air-tightness over time, even through the typical rough usage of mountain biking.

Our XC casings provide strong anti-pinch-flat protection and cut prevention, while delivering high performance in terms of the low rolling resistance and low overall weights, typical of our tires. We’re able to achieve this result with a careful choice of proprietary polyamide threads and optimized positioning (cutting angles and layer coupling) to further stress Geax’s strengths. The casing is the main ingredient to get speed, reliability, grip, and overall suppleness.

The natural progression of the All Mountain disciplines towards extreme performances pushed us to develop a specific casing targeting the exact needs of those new All Mountaineers: optimized dura-bility and performance without too much weight carried over. Naturally, we started from our standard TNT technology, because as a base, the TNT features are nearly perfect for the project. With slight alterations, and the addition of a special APF Light butyl insert over the bead, we’ve constructed a tire that delivers high pedaling properties typical of the XC tires, but with the strength and reliability properties directly derived from our DH range. They’re the ultimate weapon for the modern AM rider.

TNT is now, more than ever, the benchmark in MTB casing technology. The presence of the UST Tubeless bead, but exclusion of the internal butyl layer makes for a lightweight and flexible casing unachievable with standard UST casings. Extra sidewall reinforcements enhance cut resistance and low speed compliance to deliver a “livelier” tire. Our TNT tires are lighter compared to a tube-less or to a tire+tube combo, have lower rolling resistance due to a more flexible casing, higher reliability and increased cornering abilities due to the extra protection layer. The “NoTube” ability comes just by adding some liquid or foaming latex, which adds puncture prevention qualities as well.

Nowadays high performance downhill mountain biking requires attention to every detail and per-formance characteristic without compromise. It’s exactly this reason that our casing is built with two overlapping nylon plies. One is a highly optimized APF butyl insert which protects against pinch flats and gives stability to the shoulder. Each DH tire features a double or triple compound construction with specific formulations providing maximum grip, lower rebound, and the lowest rolling resistance possible. All of this, coupled with our famous nylon casing quality, makes our DH tires the fastest on the market. In a time when races are won by hundredths of a second, rolling resistance is key...

For wet or rough roads, decrease by 0.5 bar (7.5 psi). For tubular tires, increase by 0.5 bar (7.5 psi) Ideal tire pressure is subject to many variables such as road surface, weather conditions, bike materials and setup, rider’s weight and lastly, riding style. The best way to fine tune ideal tire pressures is field testing a variety of different pressures. One method is to use a short criterium style circuit, preferrable with a variety of corners. Start with the suggested pressure and ride a lap. Each following lap, lower the pressure by 5psi until you feel the tires start to “wallow” or move a bit. This is your lowest pressure point. Return to the above table pressures and raise 5psi each lap until the tires start to bounce and skip/move across the surface. This is your max pressure. Decrease by 5 psi from here until you feel you have the best pressure for the conditions. Keep a tire pressure log, including road surface, technicality of the course,weather conditions, tire type, brand, and TPI. Finally, the bike you used and your weight on that day. Over time, this log will become a valuable tool for referencing tire pressures and road conditions in order to optimize your performance when on race day.
